I too have seen that performance. Not good for Ayu.:(

ExodusUK 27th October 2016 02:42 PM

In terms of vocals..the whole of Arena Tour 2008 but in particular the performances of HANABI and End Roll are just embarrassingly horrible and woeful.

It's from the same era as the independent on CDTV so I understand she was sick. But this whole CDL is :tired

I love this performance because her rawness and vocal imperfection, truly amazing and a genuinely rock and roll style.

Imo she sounds like she's having a stuffy nose during the whole Asia Tour 2008 concert.

Gotta agree with this. This has always been one of my favourite HANABI performances. That said, yeah, the vocals of this CDL weren't great but only because she's ill! It was (mostly) fixed in the DVD anyway.

DonkeyKongRemix 28th October 2016 08:39 AM

yeah, that HANABI performance gives me chills, I actually really like it a lot. When she puts sooo much heart and soul into a performance, it's harder for me to dislike it.

I'm just going to say, as pointed out, that performance of what is forever love (mentioned earlier in this thread) is soooo bad. Bad vocals are tough to sit through but I think when something is THAT embarrassingly corny...it is even worse...

This HANABI performance to me sounds rather raw and powerful than anything else O.o One of these moments when you realize how real and unique Ayu is because many pop singers don't even seem to sing live on their concerts even when perfectly healthy.

Andrenekoi 28th October 2016 05:31 PM

I don't ger the whole "popstars don't sing live" thing. Britney, Kyary ans Perfume aside I can't think about any popstar who doesn't sing for most of their concerts, or at least don't sing ballads.

Call me crazy, but I actually really like that Hanabi performance. The cracking in the voice fits the emotion of the song.

so i guess this is also one of those days when she was sick and where she should also cancel the performance but still decided to go on.

That one it looked like she had just swallowed wrong right before the performance began. The boys and girls performance right before it was fine.

Thought I was the only one who loved it, I agree with everything :heart

For the people who hate that Hanabi performance (which is not her best, for sure)...obviously you didn't see the TV live performances for the }{ single LOL.

Evan Odinson 2nd November 2016 07:49 PM

Woah kind of a hate thread, very classy.

The what is forever love performance is really embarrassing. I only watched it once and never want to see it again.

I hate to admit this, because I really like ayumi's music, but her live performances aren't always the best and to me some of her redeeming features vocal wise have simply disappeared in recent years, well actually not so recent anymore. But that Hanabi performance above is from a time when I really liked the general timbre or quality of her voice, and the few mistakes she makes add to the performance and even the few off key notes as well.

She performed the classical version of song is born at the aichi world expo back in 2005 and one of the really high and unfortunately long notes is completely off, but I still really like the performance and I hardly think it's her worst so those things I don't mind.

The changes that happened sometime after that makes some of her performances almost unlistenable to me when they're unedited, shouting, a raspier and harsh lower kind of timbre and being out of breath, those aspects make the moments she's off pitch that were tolerable before appear even worse. I think she's gotten better recently though, but there are probably too many "worst live performances" for me to pick one out also becuase she's so active, and usually I just ignore them. That one evolution + some other song tv performance some years ago that she even had to make excuses for to her fans is probably up there though.

tbh her bad vocals for me aren't as performance destroying as what her love/romance/I've lost you but I want you back but now you're gone again *extensive flailing of arms* acting does - and its been a performance type she's been using for aggeeess now. So I'm going to nominate any performance with that. I quite enjoy her earlier, less-perfect vocals (I enjoy that 2002 performance of HANABI featured, for example).

I have to disagree and agree at the same time. While it's true that her over acting has murdered many performances in the past. Ayu's vocals are just a big no no these days. They take away from the whole show, big time.:(

Let me add "You are the only one" at MADE IN JAPAN Tour. Terrible.

//ABEST 18th November 2016 07:58 PM

Many Classic Moments performed on M(A)DE IN TOKYO

i wonder why no one has brought it up yet, it's terrible :no i have never felt so ashamed of her

pedronekoi 18th November 2016 08:28 PM

^ That's really bad :( And the presence of Tetsuya there is just pure awkwardness...

What? Her vocals are very good on it? I'd like to know what's so bad about it?

While I agree that MCM wasn't really great I have to say it could be worse imo. Like, the whole CDL 15-16 isn't really great vocal-wise (although STEP you is quite good though). The worst performance Ayu has ever put out is the Evolution one from MS (I think) 2009 (?) imo.
