Why don't we concentrate on the fact that two actual musicians are taking the top two spots on the chart rather than cookie cutter, vocally-unpleasing pop tarts.

I don't think anyone is really pitting Hikaru versus Angela...not quite like Ayu and Hikaru had it out five years ago. It's natural that they are going to be compared because they ARE actually quite alike in many ways. Both artists release very "real" material, however, I must say, that Utada Hikaru's recent adoption of her computer over acoustic-based instruments to compose her songs has disappointed me a lot. I must say that between Angela and Hikaru, Angela's album is more "real" musically--in composition, while lyrically, both are very much alike. I really wish that Angela's album had kicked Hikaru out of Number One for even just a day, though...

Why? You mean it's easier to compose/arrange songs using a computer than with acoustic instruments?

There's nothing less 'real' about Utada's composition, she's just more experimental. Anyway why are we comparing these two when they are so different?

IMHO, this is the same as Hikki vs. Ayu arguments. :p

These two are more similar than Ayu and Hikki will ever be, though. :p

PSYCHEDELICOdust 21st June 2006 08:32 AM

Oh. my god. Why the hell must everyone compare everyone? Can't you people just enjoy the material? Can't people not get offended if someone likes something more than something else? It's not that hard people.

As a Hikki fan, it's getting really annoying to see her compared to so many people. Stop it. I like ULTRA BLUE more than Home but I'm damn happy to see Angela succeed. The way she's going I might end up liking her more. But you can bet I won't bother obsessing over similarities. The only time I think it's good to compare someone is when you're trying to get someone into liking another artist. Otherwise, what's the point? I mean, it's not like these artists care what people on an overseas forum say.

And yes, I do understand the facts, A. People are completely entitled to say what they want on here and B. are completely entitled to ***** at me for saying all this. But I'm using my ability on here to say something to maybe help you guys enjoy your artists more.

Dwelling on other peoples' opinions and having to think up comebacks could possibly distract you from enjoying your artists more, which is probably all for the better~

^^ you can like whatevere album better.. but Honestly Home is better in every single way than UB. and dont get me wrong i like Hikki

I don't mean it's any harder or easier to compose/arrange by computer, but I prefer the acoustic sounds. I wish that more artists -- especially Ayu -- would do more acoustic and less "generated" sounding songs. At least with Utada Hikaru and Hamasaki Ayumi in the past, while their music still was mainly composed on the computer and a lot of the sounds were "generated" you could still hear the acoustic instruments in the foreground. The piano track can be heard throughout SURREAL and M, but we don't find much of that in Ayu's music anymore. Same with Utada Hikaru -- the acoustic guitar used to be pretty prevolant in her music -- Hikari, DAREKANO, Be My Last, Give Me A Reason, etc. But ever since her crossover, I have noticed a lot more "Utada" in Hikki's music -- the "Utada" persona from the United States definitely was WAY more computer-generated than "Utada Hikaru" from Japan and that style has sort of carried into "Utada Hikaru's" japanese works now -- especially with Keep Tryin', This Is Love, Making Love, Passion, and One Night Magic. I'm not saying Utada Hikaru is any more or less "real" because of the more computer-influenced compositions of her new songs, but I'm just pointing that out. I prefer Angela's "acoustic" sound because I find it more "real" -- not that she worked harder than Hikki by not using the computer, or that Hikki's music is "fake," but that it was produced using real, live instruments rather than computer-generated sounds.

^My stepbrother is composing a song for me to sing, I'm starting a myspace music profile, and I'm going to use my Alias (Bleeding Tear), I can't wait to hear what it sounds like, and I can't wait to start recording, I've been dying to have a song composed for me.

I know that this isn't really any of my business, but that's a bit rude, ne?

Ayu_desu 22nd June 2006 07:42 AM

Um, no. Blatant spamming, that's rude.

Anyway I hope Aki doesn't fall too much further down from the #3 spot.

Kaiouforever 23rd June 2006 08:14 AM

I'm sure Home will stay in the top 10 for another week. I'm really happy it's doing so well!

sexysaucestar 24th June 2006 05:31 PM

I just read up a bit on Angela Aki...and wow, I'm surprised that she attended college in DC and performed a bit in Virginia o_O Damn...small world. I saw her perform live on Music Station last night, so I decided to give her a try. Plus, since I've been here in Japan since April, I've heard a lot/seen a lot of her all over the place ;) Might as well see what all the hype is about :P

mishidabo 24th June 2006 11:36 PM

^^ cool.. i'm sure you'll love Angie ^_^

mishidabo 25th June 2006 02:23 AM

GREAT NEWS!!

Angela's album moved back to N.2 at daily Ranking!!

shes doing great! ^_^

greggerz189 25th June 2006 10:47 PM

Haha if she released all her songs as a single and then called her album "BEST" instead of "Home" she might have sold way more in her first week XD *cough*kuu*cough* haha
