PLUS if you call your album ARTPOP i am expecting more than basic EDM songs that hardly show progress or artistic evolution

I do admit, it is a rather "noisy" album, compared to her other stuff. But I still like it.

I love it, we have a pretty extensive discussion going on at the official thread: http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3038617

Isn't that just a general lady gaga thread?

NintendoHTF1242 3rd November 2013 11:32 PM

It's a general thread; but that's where we're gonna be discussing the album. Lady Gaga isn't so relevant where she needs a separate topic for ARTPOP.

Artflop

SURREAL__RAINBOW 4th November 2013 02:16 AM

I'm going to wait until I can buy a copy of the album tbh, I have only heard the released tracks.

Delicious n Bold 4th November 2013 05:31 AM

I've changed my mind a bit
Venus, sexxx dreams, guy, gypsy and artpop are the best songs.
All the others are not worth my time.
That's a nice little EP

SURREAL__RAINBOW 4th November 2013 07:07 AM

donatella is the bomb!!!

GYPSY OMG!!!!! SWINE OMFG!!!!

Best album of 2013 no doubt

That's correct - so I'm going to merge this thread. No need for seperate threads on this occasion.

Surreal17 4th November 2013 11:30 AM

just downloading the leak.....going to come back later with an opinion but I'm not expecting anything spectacular as Applause was really disappointing

inspire_rmx 4th November 2013 03:53 PM

The album is amazing! i love almost every track. Aura, G.U.Y., artpop, jewels n drugs. are so freaking nice

NintendoHTF1242 4th November 2013 04:21 PM

So the general consensus for ARTPOP is that it's either album of the year or shit of the year. There is no in-between.

terra 4th November 2013 04:24 PM

I feel a little mixed about this album, it's a hot mess with nice tracks here and the others are just trying to hard imo

Pieces_of_SEVEN 4th November 2013 06:43 PM

umm...so maybe I didn't give it a full chance, but I really couldn't get into any of the songs...disappointing.

Kacku 4th November 2013 06:46 PM

I'm pretty disappointed with this album. :( On first listening, it sounds like a huge wall of noise, which doesn't really make me want to go back and hear more. The Fame Monster had a much cleaner sound and Born This Way, though it also had some tracks I though needed some dialing back, also sounded much more pleasant to me. I don't really care about EDM or her collaborators and most of the new songs don't grab me at all. The one song I instantly fell for is Gypsy; can't not love a song with such a euphoric chorus! Applause and Do What U Want are also nice songs, but they don't do much for me. Maybe I'll warm up to some songs later, but so far, this album is a dud.

Surreal17 5th November 2013 11:40 AM

I kinda like a few songs on the album such as Aura, G.U.Y., Swine, Do What You Want and a few more but it certainly isn't the album of the year. Just an ok one. I didn't expect anything fabulous so I'm not very disappointed.Maybe in the future days will grow on me.

TeamAyu2004 5th November 2013 02:09 PM

I'm a little blah about the album.
I will say its a grower not a shower. I;ve listen to it twice now and its getting better. lol

This and it was said that "ARTPOP trips from 'genre to genre'". Where? It's all EDM songs. ARTPOP has some good songs but it's far from being "ART" or innovative at all.

Exactly. Where is the surprise on ARTPOP? Where is the genre to genre? I was expecting Sexxx Dreams to be a reggae meets EDM experimental song, GUY to be a R&B meets electro song, Gypsy to be an experimental ballad, Mary Jane Holland to be strange as fuck... and they are all basic EDM songs. Except from Sexxx Dreams maybe, the rest could have been on Born This Way

Chibi-Chan 5th November 2013 09:38 PM

If she would have announced ARTPOP as an EDM album and would have given it a different name it would come out better... This is just POP without ART.

milky_way 5th November 2013 11:02 PM

I'm surprised you guys still take anything she says about her music seriously. Remember when she called BTW the Album of the Year?

Touché :laugh

Delicious n Bold 5th November 2013 11:39 PM

You honestly can't take anything she says seriously.
Everything and anything LG says has as much truth as the characterization of the boy who cried wolf.

However, I am liking artpop a lot more now that I've let it sink in. Maybe it'll be worth my money. The only song I flat out hate is Jewels and drugs.

AyuBlackwind 6th November 2013 03:04 AM

^ I hate that song too. My concern is that she's just using imagery from classical art to advertise and is just singing typical pop music and will undermine the value of the art she is referencing. Botticelli's better than this album, that is for damn sure.

AyumiAi 6th November 2013 03:10 AM

I love the album *__* there are songs that i don't like but the majority that i DO LIKE I RAELLY LIKE! :3 i'm just happy that Gaga is steering away from all the religious imagery and as much as i agree there is a lot of EDM she's more focused on music again than like like making political statements or wtv, which is what I loved about GAGA just fun ^^ beautiful artsy crazy fun!

I agree both on Jewels n Drugs which is so draggy, and on how she chose the art direction for ARTPOP. The visuals are nice imo even better than BTW but the music is...basic? There are bits of experimentation here and there but just bits, and the rest falls generally the same. I even consider BTW better than this since it has songs like Americano, Government Hooker or Bloody Mary.

My favorite would be Aura, Venus, Do What U Want, Artpop, Gypsy and Applause
And I love Dope better as I Wanna Be With You :(

SURREAL__RAINBOW 6th November 2013 06:07 AM

I don't even understand how people dislike this album, I don't want to lol I have been blasting ARTPOP nonstop ever since I got the HQ rip, I can't wait to go to the shops and buy a copy.

Gypsy and Mary Jane Holland are orgasmic, I need them to be singles.

TeamAyu2004 6th November 2013 06:08 AM

I'm actually surprised people dont get the concept... lol
A lot of people don't get art.

True, but I have a feeling she genuinely believes that. ;) Personally Born This Way wasn't great for me..but it wasn't terrible. A lot of the songs have grown on me since then.

Artpop is kind-of the same. First listen, total disappointment. I've been repeating it since then and most of the songs are really catchy. :) The only ones I get the urge to skip are Jewels n' Drugs and Dope. The rest are pretty solid imo.

tenshi no hane 6th November 2013 08:55 AM

I really love some of the songs on ARTPOP. I just don't like the thing she tends to do with her voice nowadays. That weird low thingy (I don't know how to describe it lol). I didn't mind in the past because she did it occasionally but now it's overkill (imo).

ILoveGeniuses 6th November 2013 10:05 AM

Personal Thoughts:

ARTPOP: I havent DL'd it n I have no clue where u are all finding it, but from every preview n full audio Ive heard including the itunes show I watched the ONLY song I don't care for is Sex & Drugs.

BTW: This album got me into her. I didnt have a big interest in her til then. I ADORE IT START TO FINISH.

Fame & FM: I bought the 2CD version of this AFTER getting BTW & honestly Teeth took awhile to grow on me. Plus I dont care for Summerboy, Boysx3 & i cant stand Telephone, but thats mostly cuz of Beyonce being present. Plus theres the odd track I just have to be in the mood to listen to it. In total theres about 7-8 tracks I'm not fully in love with.

Mirai Noah 6th November 2013 07:58 PM

My initial reaction was that it wasn't mind-blowingly amazing, but there were some good tracks. I liked "Swine," "Gypsy" and "Mary Jane Holland."

hsienko 6th November 2013 11:41 PM

Its a good album. Its not innovative or mind blowing or anything but it wasn't awful. I do kinda agree tho with most of the opinions about EDM, and I think it made the whole album sound kinda uninspired.

Am the only one who thinks the whole "art" stylization concept thing is turning out to be a trainwreck? From the album sleeve to her outfits, to me this whole "era' looks looks very uninspired and unhip, looked way better in the previews.

I agree with you on everything here!

I think this whole era is a total mess, I like the music but don't love it, but even though the concept of ARTPOP is a relatively good idea she doesn't dress, style or perform in any way that can be related to it.
And everything she does this era doesn't really fit together, it's weird....
