truehappiness 3rd December 2013 10:31 AM

The main concept was sort of outlined in an ameba article.

Quote:

http://news.ameba.jp/20131201-184/

Main points I think are...

- American comedy-style PV with a unique story
- Heroine wants to catch the eye of the guy

Might be slightly off, so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

To how I see it, that's the main message here. For fuck's sake I think all she just wanted to prove was be confident in yourself and stay happy.

This was very fun to watch. Troll Ayu is just trolling :laugh

KLJames 3rd December 2013 11:07 AM

just like the lyrics sang: "i have decided to smile wide, even though there are things which hurt my heart and threaten to break me".

its all abt be confident like those slim girls around you even you are a plus size; just be happy (thats why almost all scenes she is wink and smile even in the full ver ending) and eat, exercise, dance, dress up, if you got a love one, just run to your love one and give him a hug, no matter in reality how weird the sights they will put on you (represent by James which he prefer "ayu"), some of them might eventually accept you (represent by scene which the girls 1st fight with her but eventually let her join the dance).

ayu in the video is to cheer up those characters: "go go go, atleast you tried!".

feel the love, feel the love, we can dance all night...
night and day, night and day, i'll be searching for my love...

i just can't feel the discrimination or offense in this video! i love the whole pv!

emi♡ 3rd December 2013 11:07 AM

oh my god. Fail.

She's like "MUAHAHAHAHAHA I'M A FUCKING MAGICIAN" :evillaugh

And no, the majority of people weren't right. People were saying she turns back into herself, and that Ayu just represented who she was inside the whole time, and both she and he see the beauty inside her.

Here, she turns back into herself, but.....she obviously wasn't her real self the whole time or he wouldn't be confused that she's fat again :laugh

I don't understand why they can't do anything right.

Fun PV? Sure yeah, whatever. At least I have more appreciation for the song though. I wouldn't mind hearing an instrumental, there's fun things happening there. I still dislike the melody.

AyUmIXx 3rd December 2013 11:28 AM

the only problem is for James being all confused/surprised by seeing another different girl in front of him. hmmm..

edit:

or maybe the girl doesn't even give a damn anymore of how people might see her? she's liked "WHATEVER PEOPLE, AS LONG AS I'M HAPPY!"

This could be a possible reading of it :yes

I thought it was that the guy was enchanted by the girl, but suddenly he sees the real, then he's like WTF, but not in a BAD way, as someone said: if you're hugging someone, and s/he turn into other person, you'll be surprised (I'd probably run away scared xD)

Of course, if you want to see he's scared about her size (and not the change of person lol) you'll think is a bad ending as well.

ayumisrael 3rd December 2013 01:38 PM

I just thought he was "wtf?" about what she did into the camera? lol

Yeah, I would be confused too if someone who had been chasing me down to hug me tight, suddenly broke away from the hug to turn towards a "camera" and start doing expressions and gestures for an invisible audience. :laugh He's not completely aware of the "meta" of the video, I guess...

waterballoon 3rd December 2013 03:16 PM

I dunno if it was as simple as she runs (full of courage, confidence etc etc) towards her "love" and gets "represented" as a standard of beauty (Ayu)... but really still is Adele then James's facial expression just made 0 sense.

also now that I typed that out, the whole idea felt good but it was so risky to execute in such a manner, especially since there were logic loopholes that didn't make the idea as cohesive or strong as it should have been. I'm not sure to applaud Ayu on trying something new for her music/PVs or to shake my head at how bad she is at execution these days.

still love the synth right after the chorus :heart

I expected this ending. What they came up with is still a bit confusing but I personally don't care much.
What I care about are those sunglasses disappearing/appearing in his hands! But it's not like this PV had a great direction to begin with.

Still enjoying it though! I really prefer something like this than another boring PV of her looking pretty staring at the camera... Of a PV full of her dancers.

CoriKaru 3rd December 2013 09:28 PM

Soooooo.........She turned back into a fat mess and the guy let go disgusted as h311.......

And people are jumping on this troll bandwagon. Who did she troll? Fat people? Americans?

Oh. No worries then. Because SHE DID IT ON PURPOSE.

emi♡ 3rd December 2013 09:41 PM

troll because even after she said the ending was better, it's still shitty?
idk.

and lol @ the "he's confused because she's making faces to the camera!"

whatever helps you sleep at night.

lumieregrl 3rd December 2013 09:42 PM

Well. She could've saved it if he looked happy (as if nothing had happened) after she changed back. I don't know. What a weird video!

Where's that video with the different ending anyway? Can't find it

P.S. they should have changed it on yt cuz there's still the same PV with that shitty ending, oh well, I still don't like the song and the ending doesn't save the whole PV, so...

I would say the fat girl in the pv definitely got trolled. That cartoon was "less than flattering" to say the least.

njanjayrp 3rd December 2013 10:53 PM

At least the video is doing exactly what it's supposed to. People are talking about it, a lot this time.

The video is fun. It's not the best damn thing she's done, but she's done worse. It fits the song somehow. Nevertheless people Ayu's PVs can't help you with your own frustrations :)

i came up with another idea of the ending:

maybe the girl doesn't even give a damn anymore of how people might see her? she's liked "WHATEVER PEOPLE, AS LONG AS I'M HAPPY!" (that's why she acted all the way cute and fabulous in the end)

I think the ending part is kinda like the guy sees beauty as ayu. However, when she hugs him, she kinda tell him no, that's not me. And she pushes him away, making the guy confused about what's wrong with being beauty as ayu.
The whole PV kinda brings a positive msg rather than negative. Although for some parts it kinda makes it comical. like falling from the treadmill but she didn't give up and tried again. She fails again and decided that it's not what she's doing best at and decides to stop forcing herself and kicks the treadmill. Whereas at other areas, she proves that she can do equally well (if not better). She can still eat all she want, run as fast as others, doing aerobatics and dancing.

The sunglasses just switched from his left hand to his right hand. Obviously this guy is not a gd actor who knows about continuity.

pommy48 4th December 2013 04:38 AM

It looked more like she broke away, so she can show how happy she is after getting the hot guy to the audience
And the guy looked surprised before she started to do all those things to the camera.

They should have revealed in the end that the girl just hypnotized the guy to believe she was a skinny Japanese woman :laugh

yea, it could be like that too. :)
i like the bolded part on the video too

Jennie Mae 4th December 2013 07:16 AM

I was hoping in the end she would end up shoving the guy away and deciding to be who she wants because that's who she wants to be, not what the guy wants.
oh well.
like I get the message that's trying to be told. I just wish they didn't do it with such bad direction and those horrible animation shots.

kendelle 4th December 2013 08:17 AM

Well I'd have preferred if James turned into a skinny or fat guy as well but oh well

The girl reminds me of when I'm trying to work out as well hahaha

I'm confused with the people in the background. (I've only seen the gif picture). After the cut they are looking at the sky? Errm... why??
Editing is all over the place...

Zeke. 4th December 2013 02:39 PM

I suppose we're discussing opinions on the full version in this thread, over the SSTV thread? Ok.

Yeah the ending was stupid how he realized she was still chunky. Of anything they should have walked past a mirror or a glass window storefront and have her reflection be her true self. Reminiscent of the movie "Shallow Hall". This makes it look like she's pulling some sort of prank on him.

marty 4th December 2013 04:36 PM

Ending is ok... I guess.
For me nothing changed, it's not better, it's not worse. It's simply the ONLY Ayu PV I can't bring myself to watch again. And considering she's my goddess of all singer goddesses, I'm sad about it.

In the end I don't like the PV. If they just wanted to show the inner beauty and confidence of the girl the part with the makeover would have been enough. She didn't need to turn into a slim, heavily glammed up and outrageous flirty Ayu at the end (and the actual ending isn't any better...).

I get that you guys want to defend the PV by any means, but it doesn't change the fact that the inner beauty and confidence of the girl is portrayed by a slim and very sexy woman. So the PV basically says beauty = slim and sexy. Even if the girl turns into herself again at the end. Not to mention the guy shoves her away after she turns into herself again, so where is this "he sees her inner beauty thingy" gone?

I don't think at all that's the message Ayu was aiming for. But my problem is Ayu could have come up with the whole inner beauty message without any unintentional body shaming.

The girl is a witch, that's the reason she is Ayu at the end. Proof: Just watch the cartoon, she is flying a la Bewitched.

douggn 5th December 2013 01:47 AM

my view on this is I love it. I never saw it as you have to be fit, slim and attractive to get noticed. If anything, how you look and see something for the first time reflects your own beliefs. If you saw this and was offended for the reason thinking that fat = unattractive than that what you think on the matter. Don't blame ayu for how you look at the world

emi♡ 5th December 2013 03:51 AM

I can see how much that you guys wana slam ayu for slim = good, fat = bad theory but if you look closer, it's the obese girl pushes the guy away instead of the guy pushing her away. Please look carefully.

Frankly, Ayu's music videos have always been the worst aspect of her career. Highly inconsistent output and they rarely match the quality of the songs. I personally think she has only made five good videos: M, Endless Sorrow, Because of You, Heaven, and alterna. The others range from functional to terrible.

I will always prefer to hear her music divorced from her videos. She's a better artist without them.

I did mention a range, so while I think Jewel is pretty, it's ultimately functional. Same with Blue Bird. I don't think they really transcend their purpose as promotional videos.

Zeke. 5th December 2013 07:17 PM

OMG though Ayu is the epitome of perfection in the JEWEL PV though. Those scenes with her lying her head on that box. She is undeniably gorgeous.

Tony G 5th December 2013 11:29 PM

Really disappointing PV. The message was stupid, the ending was stupid, the only good thing about the video is the song itself, which has grown on me.

the whole PV is just super gorgeous, not spectacular but really pretty to watch, i think if not the PV i wouldn't have even started liking the song, cuz it's a very generic ballad for me.

Kogepan_19 6th December 2013 07:49 AM

I personally feel like the scene where the protagonist "turns into Ayu" is symbolic in measuring the amount of confidence that she has in herself, which is equal to the amount of a celebrity. There was no actual change of physicality. From my reading of the video, I think that the only reason why James looks so confused is because the protagonist suddenly pushes him away, when they were enjoying an embrace.

I do think that Ayu made a hyperbolic point in selecting a woman who could be considered slightly overweight to portray the figure of the laywoman or everywoman, but the issues that are touched upon in the video definitely parallel to those that many may experience in society.
