I like Yoona too, but I still think in comparison to basically every other girl in SNSD, she's lacking in every area (looks, voice, dancing, personality)

Yoona is a sweet girl and she can have a fun personality but I agree the other girls have more character.
Girls like her from other groups are popular too though. I guess because they're 'normal' and more easy to relate to?

^It's just like Acchan in AKB, except I think Acchan is more likable. I just find Yoona dull and her singing is pretty poor compared to the rest of the group.

I think most of Yoona's fans are males though .. She just fits the standards for the "ideal girl" in Korea I guess.

I used to find her dull as well, but her tomboyish side is adorable and it made me notice her more :heart

btw isn't Taeyeon just as popular as Yoona in Korea ? I think they're on the same level of popularity.

Ah yeah I agree, Yoona is the most popular member within Korean public that even from grandmothers to little children know about her (and in the past, because they knew this Saebyuk, they get to know about Soshi). If I'm not wrong, this kind of whole public acknowledgement for idol is very rare to be found within Korea, as usually the famous ones are actors ad such. One of the main reason (besides her appearance and personality) is her part as Saebyuk in You Are My Destiny, daily drama with very high rating, that made her won the Baeksang New Actress Award. And maybe one can even say that the public likes her so much.

As for Taeyeon, she's the most popular with fans, we can see that based of the fancafe ranking, and in one portal site, Taeyeon has the highest fancafe members amount ranking for female idol, just number six right after the five TVXQ-JYJ members.

Imo each of the members got their own specialty and uniqueness. Where else can you find a nine-membered group with very diverse personality (even the nine of them have different horoscopes when Sunny-Yoona was born in the same month) but when they're together they became one complete pack.
Just like what Fany said, Soshi members are like ice cream flavors: each represents their own unique taste that certain people will like but when they're combined it'd be one complete mixture. You can't miss a member from the combination, cause even though they shine as individuals, they shine the most when they're together :D
