SURREAL__RAINBOW 13th March 2012 11:06 PM

I NEEDED THIS ALBUM IN MY LIFE. That's all.

pepper 13th March 2012 11:17 PM

Ok, I am officially pi******* that this album have only 4 pv's. They deserve them! At least one for cabaret song and one from Letter/reminds me/Tell me why.

+edit. I found one "minus" in the "flow" - I think 5 similar genred songs (call - Letter - reminds me - Return Road - Tell me why combo) is a little too much in the tracklist. I know that they are totally diffrent, but I kinda feel sad that there is no "other" song in the middle. I know that Return Road might be a little "diffrent" with organs and such arragments, but it's still pretty close to rest. Just something faster I guess? Not cheery/happy, but just faster not in the disco/party way - just like Last angel/Surreal for example. They are all very close to "medium pop rock" genre.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 13th March 2012 11:19 PM

I hope we get pvs for some of the songs in the new single, like my name's WOMEN :innocent We must spam ayu, timmy, etc xD

SKYia 13th March 2012 11:20 PM

I felt like writing a little longer review, here it is :)

They still may make more post album PVs like for My name's women, or maybe some post-album single like Daybreak? although that may not be a good move sale-wise.

happiholic★ 13th March 2012 11:21 PM

After reading people say that call and Letter are "nice" or give them really low reviews in comparison, I was thinking they were horrible, but I really love them. I'm only as far as letter, but they are my favorite so far. I like NaNaNa and Shake It, though they kinda fall short. NaNaNa has that horrible rapping that's like someone's dad rapping, and Shake It kinda loses its power in the chorus. I like them both, but I would rate call and Letter higher.

Now I'm writing after listening to the full album, and I think that I would call it "really nice" and I love the feel of this album. It doesn't make me love it the way some of her older albums do, but this is totally better than Love Songs. I would say its better than FIVE, but that's not fair because FIVE was shorter.

TeamAyu2004 13th March 2012 11:23 PM

^ i think call and Letter are the highlights for me.. ( although Im on reminds me right now)
But over all I have enjoyed all of it
(NaNaNa still bugs me.. timmy... ah man...)

I just get really annoyed when people post some total crap about Ayumi's vocals and don't even try to state it as opinion but give no reasoning either. Where you can see it boils down to just liking it or not.

I was obviously fooling around... :tired You'd think that your confidence in your statements would be dazzling (because you either insult others or make them feel like they are inferior to you), but you're not standing behind it so strongly, are you, since you let my dumb & OBVIOUS ignorant comment get to ya. :innocent Whatever, this is not important.

Her vocals have definitely improved, but not so much that you can blame others for saying that they think she sounds worse than she used to sound like. Not everyone puts it down as statement, and not everyone has the expanded knowledge about vocal technique as you seem to have (though I doubt you have a lot of knowledge because you recently said "our girl ayumi finally learned to sing" or something like that = which I translate as total crap). You have even picked on people who aren't able to elaborate in English. But I guess that reasoning with others might be something you have a problem with. :(.

Whatever the exact case is, I don't care. I keep on listening to my newest favorite song "Return Road" :cool

So far, I would describe this album as Next Level part 2. It feels much more similar to that album than Rock 'n' Roll Circus and Love Songs. Some of her vocals aren't so great, some are pretty good. I need to run through the album again to make a more informed post.

lol that's awesome, the longer timmy is with her the more i dislike this guy

TeamAyu2004 13th March 2012 11:33 PM

Im not sure If I'm liking the middle part of Return road...
It's rather interesting... I guess I may have to listen to the song more than once...

sesshy 13th March 2012 11:38 PM

What is this Love song album you people talking about? Omg, this album was unexpected for me. I love it. Honestly, I think it saved me from losing interests in her. Her last 3 albums didn't cut it for me sadly. So PQ is an improvement for me. NaNaNa might be my favorite out of the album. And holy ****, Reminds me, Return Road and Tell Me Why. :heart Nothing beats Rock Ballads.

I have yet to see any PVs. I'm waiting for the DVD rips later before I comment on them. And yeah, I didn't like the covers, not because she half undressed. Could've been portrayed better. Overall, great job Ayu! :)

Eyes, Smoke, Magic better have some magic performance during her tour. D:

SURREAL__RAINBOW 13th March 2012 11:40 PM

Wow at the jazzy tunes!! Her vocals fit this style sooo well!!! I hope she sticks to it forever, I wouldn't mind.

TeamAyu2004 13th March 2012 11:45 PM

what on earth is with that jazz crap!
I have finally found some tracks that I just can't listen too.
They are horrible.

love in music 13th March 2012 11:55 PM

Party queen - 10/10 this is SO fun. most addicting song on the album
NaNaNa - 8/10 Timmy really brings this song down. otherwise really catchy and fun besides the "lonely queen" line which just makes me sad :(
Shake It♥ - 10/10 OMG this is so catchy and fun. ayu saying "hey girls" makes my life complete.
taskebab - 10/10 wow this really kicks ass. best interlude on the album.
call - 8/10 - the arrangement was a bit typical, not really any surprises but i love these types of songs from her. reminds me a little of Last Links.
Letter - 9/10 - i feel like these rock songs progress and get better and better. like i was slightly more impressed with this than call. definitely a lot of raw emotion here. love it.
reminds me - 10/10 - this made me want to cry. i absolutely love this arrangement and her vocals.
Return Road - 10000000/10 MY GOD KISS O' KILL AND MICROPHONE MATED AND HAD A BABY THAT JUST KICKED THEIR ASSES.
Tell me why - 10/10 - this is such a stand out song in her discography. i love her vocals here and the overall atmosphere in this song.
a cup of tea - 8/10 the second half kicks ass.
the next LOVE - 9/10 - she pulled this off perfectly. wow. i can imagine ayu stripping to this. i really hope she has a performance of it and does. :luv2 i adore her vocals in this song.
Eyes, Smoke, Magic - 1000/10 LOL this song is so fun. i got trolled by it many times thinking "is this where it's going to end?" and ayu's like "lol nope". i seriously love how strange this is.
Serenade in A minor - 6/10 kind of boring. it's pretty and does its job though.
how beautiful you are- 5/10 - originally i liked this song, i even thought her vocals sounded really good.. but i think it was just the quality i was listening to it in that fooled me. in higher quality her vocals annoy me so much. not to mention the song is just kind of bland.

I think for most of these songs (besides Party Queen and Return Road) the verses are a lot better than the chorus.
the only thing I would change about this album is remove the last 2 tracks. it's near perfect until them. this is the most impressed i've been with ayu since i became a fan. i really hope she keeps up experimenting like this!

Party queen: I need to get used to the studio version after listening to the CDL version so many times. My only problems with this song are: I find the "Kempai!!" part worse in this version than the CDL version (infact I never liked that part to begin with) and I wish she used the full long introduction she used in the CDL... But I still think this is a killer pop song :)

NaNaNa: Wow, the sirens just kind of came out of nowhere... I'd have hoped it would have flowed in better from 'Party queen' (Maybe it's just the download, I don't know. My actual copy will be here next week so I don't care :P). Anyway; WOW! The beat in this track is DAMN good! It's got a killer chorus and Timmy's rap doesn't bother me, surprisingly.

Shake It♥: Pretty similar feel to it as 'NaNaNa'; Amazing beat and killer melodies. I can't wait to see the lyrics to these two songs :P

taskebab: Eh. Interludes do nothing for me. Point of interest, though. Does anyone else think at the 1 minute mark it sounds just like Daft Punk's 'Aerodynamic'?

call: I can see some people's complaints about this song. I like it. It's not ground breaking but it's a solid light pop/rock track. Basically, I wouldn't skip it if it came on my shuffle. Seriously, the chorus is EMBEDDED in my head right now :P

Letter: I can say exactly the same thing about this one as I did for 'call'. The chorus is better but that's it. Oh and, I do love her vocals in 'call' and this song. They feel just right for these tracks... I can't explain it :P

reminds me: Man, it's been a while since I've seen Ayu transition from one genre to the other without an interlude! More of this, please! Seriously... This one sounds so much like another song she released a while ago... I just can't put my finger on it >.< Anyway, I love the way the song just sort of builds up to an epic heavy portion and just flows easily and softly into the finish. This is the best rock song she's come out with in a while...

Return Road: O_O This is only my first listen to this album and the first time I heard this song from the previews I wasn't too sure on it but this might be the best thing on this album. Just... epic!

Tell me why: This one might grow on me over time. It just sounds a bit too typical. Maybe it's just because this is my first listen through the album and it has the unenviable task of following 'Return Road'. I'll give it time and see.

a cup of tea: Interrrrluuuuudeeeee... BOOOO!!!

the next LOVE: My first thought of this song when I heard the previews was; "Oh... sounds like 'Pride'". But wow; a jazz number? Unexpected. Also, I'm no vocal expert but I thought she did a brilliant job here.

Eyes, Smoke, Magic: This is the 'Sexy little things' of 'Party Queen'. :P It's so weird and... I don't know. It's crazy. It's also one of the ONLY times her cutesy vocals work for me.

Serenade in A minor: I like it in the sense that it blends into the amazing finale but I'm also pissed that there's an interlude HERE of all places on the album... For shame, Ayu <.<

how beautiful you are: I've also listened to this song a bazillion times already. It's a great ballad but it won't stand the test of time like the masterpieces from her early albums but I ain't complaining :) A great song is a great song.

Overall I like it. It's a diverse album that comes together very well to create a nice coherent piece of work. It doesn't beat 'Love songs' in any way shape or form but it's definitely one of her most interesting albums to date.

The jazzy numbers (the next LOVE & Eyes, Smoke, Magic) took me off guard but I really do like them. They're different. The dance portion of the album (Party queen, NaNaNa, Shake It♥) is just killer pop song after killer pop song and the rock portion just blew me away (reminds me, Return Road). But as much as I like 'call', 'Letter' and 'Tell me why' they do sort of let the album down just a little. They're the songs that just sort of sit there and don't do anything all that special.

So yeah; Party Queen gets the points for being one of Ayu's most interesting albums but in terms of how it ranks among all her other efforts? It's not her best work... But it's far from her worst. :)

SURREAL__RAINBOW 14th March 2012 12:16 AM

So just to rank the album I would say that Party Queen is above FIVE, Love songs, Rock'n'Roll Circus, NEXT LEVEL, GUILTY, Secret and ASFXX.

emi♡ 14th March 2012 12:16 AM

Just woke up, the album leaked. wow. Got some food..gonna listen to the album.

I always do running commentary, so it's a big long lol
Spoiler:

1. Party Queen - So I understand why people feel this song is empty. It's a little jarring just hearing ayu's bare voice against the electro background. The song is okay for me. It's not a bad song, but I don't like the melody.

2. NaNaNa - can this intro be anymore epic. lol the tic toc reminds me of koda. Arrangement is Ladies Night so much. FML This song kicks ass. I like the rapping! lol I wish it was faster and crazier though.

This IS SERIOUSLY what NEXT LEVEL should have been. This is like old school Ayu mixing in with RNRC or GUILTY. It's perfect.

Um that song needed to be longer wtf.

3. Shake It - Composition is greatness. Who composed this. Love the arrangement, just like NaNaNa. Woah! lol That reminded me of a dream theater song lol Just cause, they always throw in those little snippets that are different from the song.

4. taskebab - disappointed with this interlude...oh wait. lol meh.

5. call - This song reminds me of something I'd hear from like Rie Fu, or every little thing, or...you know? This song is just, pleasant. Drums add to the pleasantness lol

The extra 20 seconds on this song needed to go on NaNaNa.

I understand the effect they wanted by having her voice alone on that last note, but I think it was more awkward than effective.

6. Letter - I love Vinyl sounds openings. This composition reminds me of an old ayu song just at the beginning. Such an uplifting song. It's a typical song, like call, but it's really nice. And I like her vocals best in it. I don't really like her vocals for this album so far.

Very nice melody without overdoing it. Nice flow as well. This album has such a nice flow in all the melodies. God it's been a long time. Interesting mixing there around 3:20. Might be the quality of this rip. It's very raw.

7. reminds me - hello gorgeous dramatic intro omg I love when she uses that sound! oh and then she starts with the solo guitar. :) :) :) This song just brought a tear to my eye. We've been waiting for this.

It's like, there's so many of the usual ayu gimmicky things, but they're used so wisely. It just WORKS.

This song is going to be EPIC live. I already know I'm gonna cry.

8. Return Road - **** JUST HIT THE FAN with the organ. Gorgeous melody. oh key change. I still would like it better if she kept the note down on the chorus lol instead of going up to that "ii". Hello GORGEOUS PIANO BACK THERE. Oh thank you arrangment person.

Hearing sounds in the arrangement that remind me of old ayu, just like in the other songs. Very happy about it.

Composition on this one is greatness. And so is the arrangement, ****. I wonder how she'll perform this one live.

I don't mind all the background vocals. It brings an interesting sound in.

9. Tell my why - hello gorgeous piano again. This song really stands out on this album, because of how different it is. Composition :heart Even though I already heard it lol I'm not huge on the woah parts, but meh.

Piano is the best part of this song ever. And her vocals are nice. I really like her tone. Not crazy high, not low. Just nice. I love that damn song.

10. a cup of tea - dives right in doesnt it lol ooo oh love. **** this is my interlude right here.

This song would have been crazy if it was a full song.

11. the next LOVE - oh big opening. Story opening. :laugh we had to see it coming. Hello jazzy key. If Ayu kept up with this slow jazz forever, I could get used to it. Flutes back there :heart Nice vibrato. Chorus is greatness. Timmy composed this right? Good job Timmy.

Flute and piano work is perfect. With Ayu's vocals I don't even hear the WOWs, which is good for me lol
I could have done without the upbeat part.

This ending is perfect though. oh yes /shudder /orgasm

/applause for my girl after that.

12. eyes, smoke, magic - :laugh Hello Broadway! Sorry, I don't feel this song goes, even with the next LOVE. Composition is nice, but...this is such a novelty song...I'm not gonna listen to it.

13. Serenade - :)

14. HBYA - nice song. But meh.
So. holy***buckets This is her best since (m)u. Okay. Seriously. ****.

I totally got emotional. So. There are some issues with her vocals in some songs, but in other's they're better. I don't like E,S,M. It's the only song I don't like.

Oh, and I can't believe Timmy's part ruins NaNaNa for some people. gtfo.

9/10 Edgy Ayu is best Ayu.

Just saw the composers. Holy ****, BOUNCEBACK and DAI, and wow. No wonder this album is greatness.

DIVERSITY. Embrace it.

Kanzaki 14th March 2012 12:22 AM

Songs are growing on me, even though I freaking liked them from the beginning.
I seriously have not loved a new album from Ayu like this since Secret. A hell lot better than LS and better than NL, R'n'RC and GUILTY.

I lol'ed happily at your running commentary, Emi xD I could feel the excitement in that review ;D

minamitan 14th March 2012 12:47 AM

I keep repeating tracks 6 to 9. They flow~ And I love it. I think I'm too emotional because I feel like crying when hearing Letter, reminds me and tell me why.

Tom Punks 14th March 2012 12:49 AM

:spazzed

FINALLY LISTENED.

Party queen - I always liked this song. It's mindless fun. :D
NaNaNa - When I went into this, I was like, "I already know Timmy's in this so I'll try not to be disappointed." But **** that, I LOVED the rap parts. They made the song for me.
Shake it - idk, I didn't like the chorus at all. It didn't catch me. The rest was fine though.
taskebab - ALL OVER THE PLACE. x_x
call - This song is definitely Last Links part two, in terms of melody, arrangement, vocals, and crappy mixing. I do like it, it's just horribly mixed and this song started the section of the album that I felt all had bad mixing and vocals that just didn't match the mood of the songs for me.
Letter - call's less happy sounding twin. The instrumental parts are like straight outta HOPE or PAIN (which is one of my favorite Ayu songs though).
reminds me - I thought the composition was GREAT. I just, once again, hated the mixing and vocals. This also sounded really, really familiar. I swear I've heard this melody before. o_o
Return Road - Wow, there's a **** ton of stuff going on in this song. Same opinion as reminds me though.
tell me why - aka HANABI~episode III~. It's a cool song, but I don't like her vocals at all agaaain.
a cup of tea - Um... bad flow is bad. I honestly don't remember how it sounds, but I liked it.
the next LOVE - I enjoyed it. :)
Eyes, Smoke, Magic - I actually laughed out loud during several parts of this song. Like emiko said, it's a novelty song, but... I kindaaa liked it.
Serenade in A minor - Pretty.
how beautiful you are - Pleasant.

Overall, I think this album definitely has the best composition since like (miss)understood (excluding Love songs). I'm just so peeved by the cheap mixing in the middle section and how her vocals just don't feel right in the rock songs. :\ Still, a very solid album, probably her best since Secret (excluding Love songs, lol).
