I have no idea but I think she likes Sailor Moon. Who doesn't? All I know is that she like Evangelion and Black Jack.

I don't know none of the characters on there. I find that anime so boring. I haven't the slightest clue as to why many anime fans luv it. D:

She does? Really??? :tired Wow! I didn't know that! That is so cool! Okay, but that's not saying much since I don't actually know a lot about Hikki. >_< I know her music very well but nothing about her herself. :tipsy Anyone know a good website where I can learn more about her? Preferably not a forum. XD

Edit: I believe the red-haired girl on Evangel. is named Asuka, though I could be wrong. :shrug I haven't seen that anime in years and I was never a big fan. :/

Luv ~Venus~ 7th August 2008 11:35 PM

^That little site called wiki.theppn. :yes It's more detailed of Hikki's life than wikipedia explains.

@Grace: Oh god no! TL/FY's cover was fugly. I hate that cover so much. Ugh! Gross!

Melon Panda 7th August 2008 11:36 PM

Maybe she drew the picture at home, where she doesn't have a scanner? Unless I was an ultra-fabulous-drawer and knew it too I wouldn't go out of my way to scan my drawing either. The girl actually reminds me of the animated character in her Passion video. (Does that mean another Passion-like song is in store? I hope so!)

Does anyone know what Utada's typical release rate is? One single every half year to year?

http://hikki.blogspot.com/ is a great place to start! Hikki blogs all the time, often about totally random stuff. It's what makes me really love her cuz she is so un-diva lol.

:laugh That's the only anime I've ever liked.

Well, for 2008 she's released 2 singles and 1 album, 2007 she released 2 singles, 2006 she released 2 singles 1 album, and the year before that she released 2 singles :)

So it's more than likely we won't get anything new for 2008.

I watched part of an episode once, and I share your sentiments exactly XD

I'm happy Hikki is an anime fan, since anime is awesome =D

^The first eppy killed it for me. The only thing good about Eva is the opening theme song. >_> I guess I'm not Otaku enough to understand it. XD

@Melon Panda: There's a timeline of her releases on her wiki.theppn page: http://wiki.theppn.org/Utada_Hikaru

I say she releases albums at a rate of a 1 1/2. It's kinda hard to tell for her singles tho. I guess I'd say every 5-8 months. :shrug

bluegie 8th August 2008 12:27 AM

It's hard to tell for her albums as well.. She could have taken quite a long time to make an album (from First Love --> Distance, or DEEP RIVER --> UB), or she could just use about a year to make a masterpiece (DEEP RIVER... just about 1.25 yr apart from Distance).

Honestly I didn't expect her to release DEEP RIVER that early back in the days... She first announced the release of SAKURA/letters, then all of the sudden the announcement of DEEP RIVER was just there a few weeks later.. without any signs at all.. :shakehead..

And if HEART STATION is a pile of crap, how did it sell so well? :shrug Hikki's doing something right, you guys all sound like some haaaaaaaters.

I'm a fan of Hikki because I can except that there are some things I'm not gonna like but I still respect and love the artist anyway.

If every one just agreed on everything she did there would be no reason for a discussion thread and we all should just IM each other with repeats of:

OMG I LUV HIKKI!
OMG ME TOO!

remember difference of opinions make for good discussions and debates.

PS:
there can be masterpieces of music that don't sell well, and there can be music that hurt the soul and sell millions. Just because HS sold a considerable amount doesn't justify its worth.

Hello, please stop instigating because we are already over that discussion! If you would like to continue talking about this, please save it for PMs, otherwise it would be considered spam. Thanks :sbye

Also, I'm getting really creeped out by this girl she's been drawing

^I'm sorry if you thought I was instigating anything, that wasn't my intention. I haven't been online in a while and commented with my opinion on the first thing that caught my interest as I was reading through the thread; I had no idea that so much time had passed between then and now. This thread grows pretty quickly.
However I would take your advice and send a PM, but I think the message was already conveyed. Doing so might be a bit redundant.

I didn't notice the resemblance until you mentioned it. (I haven't watched Passion in a few years...XD) Though with the whole robotics and exploding pieces, I was more reminded of Ghost in the Shell. Of that one time when Motoko had red hair. XD But I'm a freak like that so...
I can keep my fingers crossed about the passion-like track, but I'd be a bit disappointed if we got a Passion ~part 2~. I'd love one that's kinda in the same ball park, but with something different thrown in.

Melon Panda 8th August 2008 06:24 PM

I'm getting a slightly dark and melancholy vibe from her artwork. I wonder if she'll experiment with more orchestral/instrumental music in the future? She's just about done everything else.

dddaiyamondo 8th August 2008 08:10 PM

^I really want more hip-hop style, or at least R&B pop. Some more stuff like "Kiss & Cry" and "POL", which were in the Distance style, IMO...

xiaou-xijiang 8th August 2008 08:27 PM

I was just listening to First Love and in the song
甘いワナ ~ Paint It, Black~ she sings: I see a red door and I want to paint it black
in Vanessa Carlton's song Paint it Black she says the same thing.

Where is this line from? is it covered from some other song or artist or something?

♥ you! 8th August 2008 08:30 PM

^ yah the line is from another artist. It's from the Rolling Stones song Paint it Black.

xiaou-xijiang 8th August 2008 08:36 PM

^thanks!
The Rolling Stones, eh? :tipsy

I just got this weird urge to listen to all of Hikki's older works, and for some reason this song keeps running through and through my head.

PSYCHEDELICOdust 8th August 2008 09:38 PM

you know, i'd love for her to have a quick acoustic driven number. like, a more upbeat About Me

The only thing that made About Me work is the beat in the chorus. Giving that hint of dance really helped that song stay away from being overly introspective and self-indulgent. I know a lot of people like "Be My Last" too, but that song isn't one of my favorites, and I don't like the acoustic singer-songwriter style for Hikki.

GRACE 8th August 2008 09:49 PM

That picture she drew of the girl with the exploding robot face is terrifying ;_;...

I had a dream last night, Hikki's next song was called "Kuma-chang no Love Song"

The only thing? Hardly. Maybe the only thing for you, but personally I thought the arrangement, melody, and lyrics all worked fairly well.
