I really like We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball. But I do agree with ~StarCatcher~ in regards to her image. She's trying way too hard to get rid of her Hannah Montana image to the point where it's annoying. Wrecking Ball had a great video but she's just going for shock factor now.

Wrecking Ball is not bad..
Its lyrics are not bad.. Its video, though.. It is bad.. :no She could make it better, without that I'm not Hannah Monatana anymore, I'm a sexy bitch now! theme.. It seems she can't find a better way to let the audience see it.. I mean.. Apart from some crazy teens, do people still see her as Hannah Montana? I.Do.Not. And I'm sure lots of people don't too.. Oh.. and obviously... Spoiler:

Wrecking Ball is a nice song but I don't think nudity in the video is appropriate for the lyrical content. And that derrière is flat. If she had just kept her clothes on, the video would have been much more fitting.

I feel really weird about the whole Miley thing. It's not like what she's doing is particularly out-there or outrageous, given what is the norm for celebrity PR stunts anyway. It's also not that it's that out of the blue for her. Lots of people saw this coming back in 2007 when she released Can't Be Tamed.
I think it's just because I'm used to seeing her be a tween idol and now she's a younger Rihanna. I don't really pay attention to media much so she went from being a hard-working 15 year old to suddenly being 20 and catering to a much more adult audience in my eyes. Although the suddenness of it doesn't help - as well as the growing stigma of young celebrities not growing up well - I think this kind of shock would of been the same even if she had changed her image gradually instead of all at once. As for what I think of her new style...it's not really my thing. Right now it's like she's bouncing off walls and there's no identifiable style that I can pinpoint and be interested in. I read a quote that she apparently said yesterday - she spent her whole life being grown-up, so now she's being immature - and I think that sums up this era right now, and it's not something I'm personally a fan of. But as long as she's okay and this isn't her going off the rails...then power to her. :) |
