^omg I was literally singing that song yesterday lol Expected more honestly, it seems Mika turned this bop into a generic jpop song imo. And Nocturne is just... the most generic song ever made? Kinda excited for the new album but except some song here and there mika’s music has been lacking something.

Listening to the JOKER album tracks currently
Definitely way better than TOUGH on 1st impression . TOUGH main flaw was that it had too little new songs ie. only 3 unlike JOKER which has 8 Domino is quite good wished it had a PV made Don't think JOKER will be in my top Mika album list , it's still YES for me with it being the 1st Mika album I listened & bought |

I prefer her hairstyle that way. Not a huge fan of the short hair on her but at least it looks decent.
JOKER is an ok album, nothing really appealing. As expected DESIRE and So What are my favorites. Domino is interesting, I like the atmosphere, it kinds of remind me of older works like Kumo no ito and Hitori. The other tracks are rather forgettable IMO. I'm glad she's getting some exposure though |

Beginning to end, I really like JOKER. I appreciate how diverse it is. Nocturne, innocent, Domino, Before Dawn, and I'll See You Over The Rainbow are really solid ballads/reflective works. Before Dawn and I'll See You... are probably my personal favorites because the lyrics are deeply relevant to my life over the last few years, having lost my best friend two years ago, spending years in college to crash and burn hard after graduation, and struggling to find any sense of passion for the real world like I used to.
I also like the attitude behind tracks like Justice and So What. DESIRE was probably the only song I'd want more work on before release. Also, I really love that she still has that MUSIC era sound down. I'd love to hear the elaborate works like LEGEND and Kumo no Ito and Oborozukiyo again. That era is usually what I remember first and foremost. The next would be tracks like SEVEN and GAME, and then how good her pop-reggae tracks turn out. She's got such a great discography, and I'd love to see an album that blends the above with tracks like No Answer, Over Load, SPIRAL, and of course, stuff like Eien no Uta and that Reggae Rockers remix of -- well, damn, I forgot the name. It's the track from STAR. The Reggae remix on RELAXIN'. That would be an awesome record. Keepin' the dream alive, MIKA. Thank you! |

JOKER debuts at #17 on Oricon with 5,485 copies sold first week. I believe this is Mika's first studio album to miss the top 10. I was hoping she would at least be Top 10. She deserves better :(

The BEST album from her last year charted well and had healthy sales for a veteran soloist. Most people weren't expecting a top 5 debut, but I honestly thought her missing the top 10 wouldn't happen anytime soon.
Sony didn't do much for this release at all really. It reminds of what happened with Miliyah last year in regards to M BEST 2 sadly. |
It's unfortunate JOKER is Mika's 1st studio album to not debut in the Top 10 :s
The amount of TV promo & non TV promo Mika has done to promote JOKER , I thought it's quite substantial but unfortunately the overall feeling I get it is that the promo put in by Mika to spread the word on her new album didn't seem effective enough to remind the general public that Mika is still around and not MIA As for last Jan's Yuki no Hana 15 Shuunen Kinen Best-ban BIBLE release , I think among the other un necessary releases Mika put out over the last few years , it was the 1 that did the best for her in recent years I think those un necessary releases alienated many of Mika's fans . Even TOUGH was able to get Top 10 even though it's my least favourite album of hers It's sad that the era of female Japanese solo acts is more or less over ._. |
maybe they just need to start to do really good music again. AIMYON and aimer as well as LiSA still manage to chart good.
