yep, i read that on wiki as well. guess there are several reasons why she doesn't perform at kouhaku anymore.

i'm pretty sure ayu will come this year though. :D she even performed with a broken hand last year lol.. so no reason for her not to come this year
hopefully miliyah will come as well! i believe it will be her first time if she does :)

i finally can watch it on tv this year...i remembered i purposely wake up early at around 5 something in the morning to watch the repeat show T_T

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first time Ayu an Namie are in the same show? It's correct?

^ I seriously doubt that xD Ayu has been on TV shows performing AT LEAST 500 times, namie probably just as much and ayu has been on kouhaku every year since 1999, when I think Namie went there as well

Well, Ayu and Utada went to the same show for the first time on 2006... Even if they had their peaks at the same time (1999~2004), released some of her biggest hits on the same years (Ayu: Boys & Girls, A, Seasons, M, H, Voyage... Hikki: First Love, Addicted to you, Wait & See, Can you keep a secret, Traveling, Hikari, Sakura drops) and Utada promoted a lot more back on First Love ~ Distance eras

Just noticed that on 2001 Hikki had the first and the second best selling singles yearly o_O

Are you sure it really was the FIRST show they went to together? maybe there were others before(like award shows, i'm pretty sure the two biggest female artists of that time went to the same award shows)) but there was just nobody making a big fuss about them being in the same show
