meh.

She's very sharp here and there, but who fucking cares lol tbh, I'm mainly happy she's just singing the right notes and that her voice isn't that harsh and ugly, especially when I compare her to other artists live.

Koda live sometimes? Or Ayu during that one performance of Pride? Dear god.

kremlin dusk WAS the best thing about In the Flesh though. And YMMWTBAM.

I even listen to these live versions of these songs. I don't think they're that bad, but maybe because I'm too busy being amazed by the musical awesomeness, even after 10 years.

^I tried to find and post that Pride Performance on here a month or so ago for.........educational purposes, but miraculously the only 2 on YouTube have the SOUND Removed.

The "lord" he works in mysterious ways. lol

I can overlook her live vocals because I don't really listen to J-Pop artists for their vocal prowess.

This is a tad embarrassing (not really) but I've been playing the shit out of This Is The One.

^TiTO predicted a lot of musical trends that would come after it... There are a lot of tracks there that could easily be radio hits from 2010 until today and maybe one 1 or 2 years ahead.

Only Hikki Live that I haven't seen yet is Bohemian Summer. I did download it few years ago but I never watched it for some reason. I should though. :D

Ayu has good performances live in regards to vocals? Please direct me to one LOL

Girl can't sing live whatsoever but damn I love watching her theatrics.

I read about that too... Bohemian Summer and Budokan has ok vocals, but not to write home about... Wild Life is nice on the DVD version, but the internet streaming version is not ok. I still believe part of the reason she went on hiatus has to do with how her voice was from 2006-2009.

Hikki never really had singing lessons... The first time she ever had a vocal coach was during 2003, and if I remember it right, it was also the last time.

Where do you live, becuase in America the album was really a few years too late. The R&B sound that the album had - which was popular for quite a while before the album was released - was largely replaced by the electronic/dance/bubblegum stylings of Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Britney Spears. BoA did a much better job with predicting future trends.

Yeah, because Adele's 21, Beyoncé's 4, Miley's Bangerz, Lorde's Pure Heroine, Ariana Grande's Your's Trully, Katy's Prism, Rihanna's post Loud stuff, Lana Del Rey... all and only EDM.

Trends go on circles, and Hikki also predicted the dance music boom... Exodus. =)

which one exactly?

CoriKaru 6th December 2013 08:47 PM

Whoops. I was actually talking about Best Artist 2009.

Her "You were....." performance.

Maemi 6th December 2013 09:32 PM

^ too bad I can't hear it again :( oh well...

emi♡ 6th December 2013 11:15 PM

The Pride one was a tour...She had a really big dress....I think :/ The dvd fixed her audio, thank god. It was mainly at the end that was horrible. It might have been a cdl. idk. That was sort of around the time where I thought maybe I should never watch the TV versions anymore.

The thing is I know these girls aren't the best vocalists. I can deal with them being a little breathy, maybe a little sharp or flat. If I want to watch amazing vocalists, I'll go watch BENI or something.

But I can not deal with them singing completely wrong notes or off key.

And I don't think Hikki does that often. She still has a really good feel for the music, and I think the tone of her voice lends really well to -bad singing/technique that still sounds okay-.

I do agree none of those girls are amazing vocalists (there aren't many chart topping amazing, or even good, vocalists on jpop actually), but I would be happy if Hikki just worked on her technique (omg her breathing ~~') a little and stopped composing stuff out of her natural range... She has a gorgeous tone and is capable of delivering amazingly emotional performances, but sometimes things just go... wrong.

emi♡ 7th December 2013 12:26 AM

But then we wouldn't have amazing songs like Blue :cry

idk tbh, I half want her to do like, an Eiko Shimamiya, and find a good vocalist she can compose and mix for. or like Yasutaka, but not as limited to the electro style as he is lol

Polyrhythm 7th December 2013 01:44 AM

rolmfao. Keep trying, trying. Some people :trolleyes

amorphose 7th December 2013 02:32 AM

I think my favorite Hikki performance is the one from the Japan Gold Disc Awards of Deep River :heart

CoriKaru 7th December 2013 02:47 AM

My favorite performances from Utada on a small stage are her Music Lovers Performances when she was promoting her HEART STATION Album. Her TV Performances for "Passion" run a close 2nd.

amorphose 7th December 2013 03:08 AM

Apparently Hikki attended some benefit dinner for the Philippines in Miami recently.

^I don't know who any of those named people are except Utada. And I didn't recognize any of those people in those pictures.
