The best of ayu’s summer songs! A compilation of the super hit summer songs that are a must-listen when summer comes!! BLUE BIRD, Greatful days, July 1st, as well as signature songs like Boys&Girls and evolution are all gathered into a happy exciting “DISC-N”. Sadder summer songs like HANABI and monochrome are compiled into “DISC-A”, to give a grand 2-CD set. Furthermore, the theme song for current tour “ayumi hamasaki ARENA TOUR 2012 ～HOTEL Love songs～”, TRF cover Happening Here, will also be included due to many fans’ requests. A new song You & Me, written just for this summer song compilation, makes up a grand total of 26 songs! (planned) The DVD includes video clips from 10 years of a-nation lives, from 2002 to 2011, some past summer PVs, the PV for new song You & Me, which was filmed overseas, as well as “Greatful days” performed by RAINBOW HOUSE. I don't usually mind bad covers, but has anyone actually bothered taking a look at the 2CD ver. before deciding to actually put it out there? I mean her mouth and teeth look like they are going to be on one of GReeeeN's release...that person looks nothing like Ayu.

I think the CD only cover is only bad at lips.. If the lips color is darker, it may be better.

well, as always. I was right from the start saying we shouldn't have expected much. as I see, I was completely right. even about the ridiculous amount of burn layers (as seen from poster photo preview) to the maximum level of photoshop
unpretty & weird. I cannot see the reason to release such unflattering covers, Ayu. where's your perfectionist side gone, I wonder? a pity. |
I still think that the 2CD+DVD should be one of her best (unlike the CD one).

Someone needs to tell the photoshoppers off and ayu for accepting the CD only cover haha.
It's amazing though how the 2CD+DVD looking really great and cd one the opposite. Though I think that the close up and pose are behind it. |
The covers are not my favorite. They're just okay. I already have all the songs except You & Me. Thought not gonna buy it at first. But after seeing the DVD tracklist, I think, I need to have one ! :D

The 2CD cover would look much better with a natural smile, instead of a 'I hate you all for doing this' smile :laugh.
The 2CD+DVD looks better, but I can't tell because it's quite small. I'm not against photoshop, but holy cow Avex's got such bad graphic designers :/ these covers are not that bad, they're looking nice. |
The extra-too-long-pointy nails are what scares me the most of these covers...
CD+DVD isn't too bad. Her smile in the CD cover though.... I don't know, it just looks weird. I can't figure out why. |
I'm really liking the 2CD+DVD cover to the point that maybe I need to get this version instead.

The CD version though... Honestly, I don't think it's THAT bad. It'd look better with lighter colours, though. I don't like her nails and her mouth looks really weird, but otherwise it's fine. |

^ It was a restaurant/beach house that was also used for filming of Ayu ready?, which opened from the beginning of July until the end of August in 2003.

But no joke, I think the 2CD is possibly the most terrible cover in her discography. It really does take the Photoshop cake; at least Ayu looks reminiscent of Ayu in the S/S covers, she looks almost unidentifiable in the A SUMMER BEST 2CD. Saying that though, I think the 2CD + DVD looks decent. |

Ayu has overgrown all these gyaru girls, like the past 6 years. don't remember any gyaru aged more than 25. it's a bit ridiculous to be aming at them, I think |
There pretty much Gyarus over 25.
Ageha e.g. just made a (sub)magazine for 25+ ones. Lots of onee and ora ora and other forms are generally older. Though I agree Ayu definitely don't aim at them as her fan base is much wider than that. |
If Ayu promotes it like how she promoted A BALLADS (she won't) it could do 200k.

I always think that the "general public", that is - not "fans", prefer buying "BEST" albums over studio albums, simply because they have all the hits. So I think that A SUMMER BEST will hopefully do just as well as Party Queen, if not better.
And the covers are slowly growing on me, but they remain some of the worst in her discography. I can't put my finger on it, but I really dislike something about them. |
I just hope there are some CMs and Lives and lots of promo!

I say 20.000 in it's debute, and it will hold on pretty well and get a maximum of 90.000 sales... What do they expect, really? It's like avex is trying to make her flop.

I predict 40,000~ first day sales and 130,000~ by the end of its run. I'm just glad she is releasing a new song.

Yes I agree! This kind of promotion is only for BEST albums, though I feel that she needs to boast her sales a bit. It seems that Japan now only actively follow her tours and such and kinda slipped with the music. It was sad seeing Party Queen chart on the 2nd place and not getting higher, and this all was to blame on the lousy promotion! So idk I think she should release something that has been promoted heavily so she can smack all those overrated J-POP/K-POP groups in their 48 membered faces! I think she'll do something amazing with the ToX song though. And as much as I respect several people liking Timmy's work, I hope she did the song with Yuta Nakano again! This is the most anticipated release for me this year :). |
