[romaji & translation] count down
I feel that "Atashi no kono hidarigawa de" doesn't make sense well. It may be that I heard the part wrongly.
---------------------------------------------------- Omoikogareta toogenkyou wa Tsuyoku te totemo tsumetai kaze ga Kono mi o mezame sasete kureta to Douji ni dokoka e kiete itta wa Atashi wa warau wake de mo naku wake de mo nai Tada zetsubou nanka haruka ni toorisugita kara Mu ni natte shimatta dake na no nannimo kanji nai no Tooku kara kikoete kite iru wa Mou sugu de hora owari ga hajimaru Massugu ni uketomete iku wa Atashi no kono hidarigawa de Doujou nanka wa ira nai wa Soko ga moshimo naraku no soko da to Shita nara ato wa agaru dake da to Anata wa nan no mayoi mo naku iikitta wa Ittai are ga nani o sashita kotoba datta ka nante Sonna koto wa daiji ja nai no motto hoka ni aru no * Tooku kara kikoete kite iru wa Mou sugu de hora owari ga hajimaru Saigo made mitodokeru furi shite Anata no sono hidarigawa de Hoka ni wa nannimo ira nai wa Tooku kara kikoete kite iru wa Mou sugu de hora owari ga hajimaru Massugu ni uketomete iku wa Atashi no kono hidarigawa de * (repeat) ------------------------------------------------- In Shangri-la where I had been longing for The strong and very cold wind Woke me up And at the same time, disappeared I don't laugh nor cry I experienced despair so much in the past That I became empty, I feel nothing I hear some distant sound You see? The end will begin soon I'll accept it as it is On my left side I need no compassion "Supposing you are in the abyss All that is left is to go up" You said so with no hesitation It's not important what on earth it meant There is something more important * I hear some distant sound You see? The end will begin soon Pretend to watch me until the end I'll be on your left side I need nothing else I hear some distant sound You see? The end will begin soon I'll accept it as it is On my left side * (repeat) |
Already o_O

Xanadu is a word for a magical place/wonderous place. XD

Because romaji = 5 lines translation = 4 lines? |
Thanks for translation! More awesome lyrics :D
|
Wow so fast! O.o
Quote:
But I like it. Thx for the translation! It's very powerful! |
Yeah, the first thing that game to mind was Duty xD Did ayu use a specific word that translates into 'Xanadu' or did you take your own liberty with that one? I don't really get what it means XD
|
Xanadu? that is so 80's XD (and cute~)
well... anyways, is a strong song. It makes me feel a little sad thank you for the translation ^^ |
wow thanks a lot masa for the translation~
|
Great lyrics.
Thanks a lot masa :heart |
wow! Ayu's lyrics in this song is really something.. .I wondered if she was ever going to write a song in regards to her ear.
|
Now these are the kinds of lyrics I like. <3 I also was reminded of Duty!
Thanks for the translation. |
Yeah, I heard this song in chaku uta form and was like... "DUTY."
Except this is better, haha. -hides- |
thank you :heart

Definitely resembles a cross between Duty/GUILTY. Very sad lyrics, quite an ominous undertone, driven by rock. Yet, I love it, for the way Ayu seems to genuinely channel her emotions and outlook, despite whether they're pretty or not. |
"I'll accept it as it is"... that really speaks to me. She's so strong!
|
思いこがれた桃源郷は強くてとても冷たい風が
This is the Japanese line. maikaru previously translated this as Shangri-La. Quote:
http://ja.wiktionary.org/wiki/Xanadu Commonly translated as "Xanadu" as well. The origins of Xanadu: [After Xanadu, a place in "Kubla Khan," (1798) a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.] |
Thanks masa!
Wow...this is one of my favorite lyrics of this album. I can really relate to this song. About the "Xanadu" part.. maybe Shangri-La should be used still? I think it's a more well-known term. I've personally never hear of the word "Xanadu". |
Most people know of Xanadu as the song / Olivia Newton-John movie, haha.
Either would work imo. I guess it just depends on people's preference in the end. Xanadu? Shangri-la? Paradise (on Earth)? |
the lyrics feel very painful even to read them silently...but they are really awesome
|
I'm gonna love this song
|
I wonder why she named it count down...countdown to deafness?
|
It's a "count down" to the end, I suppose.
I heard a lot of beep beep beeps like from when alarms go off due to countdowns ending during the song. It's not to deafness since her other ear is fine, but just... I suppose the end of her career a la Duty? |
'On my left side' ...
On Ayu's left side. Isn't Peco usually on her left side? (j/k) Thanks for the translation! It's a beautiful song. |
thanks a lot masa^^
|
You are welcome.
Tougenkyou (桃源郷) is a paradise-like village which was supposed to be deep in the mountains in China. Tou (桃) means "peach". So it's a word with Asian image. There are several English words corresponding to this ---"Xanadu", "Shangri-la", "Lotus-land", "Ideal world", "Utopia", etc. Which do you think is the most suitable to this song? I'd like to hear your opinions. I changed some parts. woke me up and disappeared --> woke me up, and at the same time, disappeared If you are in the abyss --> Supposing you are in the abyss Sonna koto wa daiji ja nai no Motto hoka ni aru no --> Sonna koto wa daiji ja nai no motto hoka ni aru no (This means that I changed the romaji part from 5 lines to 4 lines.) |
Utopia sounds the most.. common and comprehensive among all the choices imo. and thank you again for the translations
|
I think I would prefer Utopia as well, or even Shangri-La too.
I love the lyrics, thank you so much. |
Thanks a lot masa! This is cool :D
|
wow! Xanadu?? XDD
nwey yeah really Duty-ish and soo sad at the same time.i wonder if Ayu really thinks about her ear when writing this~ thanx massa, love it <333 |
Hmm...the whole "left side" thing does seem a bit weird.
I guess it could reference her ear. While reading, though, my thoughts initially went to UNITE! (Freedom in the right hand, Love in the left). |
These lyrics are really intriguing. Thank you again, masa, for translating!
|
I would prefer utopia as well its more well known.
|
Thanks for the translation, Masa
|
yeap.. i love it~
|
Quote:
Shangri-la or Xanadu probably work best here. If you don't understand it, then it's a new fact for you to learn! Woo~ |
well if Utopia = perfect society, wouldnt that be like a paradise as well? no problems everyone is happy ect
Its the fact that the other two sound strange to the typical person that turns me off from them but masa will do as he likes so... |

It's like a middle school-ish term, I think. They use it extensively in translations of Journey to the West / Saiyuuki. I say if you don't know it, learn it. Become a little more cultured in the process, etc etc. I'm all for simplifying things so that others can understand them, but I think Ayu wanted to refer to either Shangri-la or Xanadu when writing her lyrics. Could've been utopia too, but tougengkyo's common translation seems to be either Shangri-la or Xanadu. It depends on the translator, I guess. http://jisho.org/words?***=%E6%92%9E...=31&dict=edict -- Tougenkyo -> Arcady, Eden, Shangri-la |

Thanks again for your wonderful translations. :) |
ShangriLa is more of a place of natural beauty and scenery while 桃源 has a human-community spirit in it besides the nature.
|
I hit upon another word. How about "Dreamland"?
|
I still say Shangri-la, as that is what she was probably thinking of when she wrote "tougenkyou" in the lyrics.
|
^i'd suggest the 'Shangri-La' term and it has the asian feel as Utopia is more like to a perfect and ideal community.

So..duty was hinting at the end of her career? Well, look where she is now. Somehow, I think psychologically, whenever Ayu write such songs, she just becomes stronger.. |
OK. I change the word to "Shangri-la". Thank you.
|
Connecting it with the title gave me shivers! It has a "Duty" feel to it... I love it! Thanks, masa~
|
thx ^^
|
thanks!
|
wow these lyrics are so simple. :D I really enjoyed reading these.
|
masa, do you have any thoughts on the whole 'left-side' theme? apart from her ear...
does the left side have some significance in japanese language/culture? :/ anybody else have anything to contribute? besides the possible reference to her ear? |
A friend of mine mentioned that the left side / the words Ayu used to describe your left side are used in Japan to mean "your heart" since the heart is on the left side as well.
It seems like an intentional double meaning. |
yeah, that sounds more plausible.
It's not like Ayu to be so direct about something, or so specific in her meaning, or so self centred in her writing. I mean, she often sings about her feelings and emotions, but in a way that others can relate to, making the song a song that applies to everyone. singing directly about losing her hearing in her left ear completely goes against this. so I was expecting I'd missed something. Thanks! :) |
i love this song too
many thanks masa!!! |
Quote:
I changed the line arrangement, according to the official lyrics. |
thank you so mush!
|
Quote:
Well, she could also be alluding to eventually going completely deaf, which is a strong possibility. As a singer, it'd be damn near impossible to continue as such if completely deaf. So when she loses her hearing, she loses her singing career? |
If Ayu's problem with her ear is Tinnitus could the beeping be a representation of what she hears?

THANKS MASA!!!
now I can start learning the song faster xD |
very beautiful lyrics indeed *-*
