Rock'n'Roll Circus vs UNIVERSE

So J-Pop divas/queens/Gods Ayu & Kuu both released studio albums this year, Rock'n'Roll Circus and UNIVERSE respectively. Which was your preferred album?

For me, I'm gonna go with UNIVERSE. I like many of the songs on Rock'n'Roll Circus but I didn't exactly love the album as a whole, and the interludes were really bad (as in, working as interludes), as well as some really horrible songs like Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~.

UNIVERSE, on the other hand, probably has weaker individual tracks but the album as a whole worked very well and was very strong imo. Almost every song is good on here, even Comes Up wasn't that too cutesy till it was intolerable. And of course, there was No Way, one of Kuu's best songs everrrrrrrr.

Your pick would be?

Rock'n'Roll Circus by a BIG long shot

the singles are great & the album tracks are fabulous . The album tracks that got PVs , at least the PVs looked great & more expensive as compared to NEXT LEVEL's :P

also Rock music's my fave music genre & I think in general more people like Rock'n'Roll Circus a lot more than NEXT LEVEL as it's more well put together

probably going to London to record the album for the 1st time kinda helped things for ayumi in a way or 2 too xD

UNIVERSE on the other hand , I like the singles but the album tracks fall short to me . A lot of songs , I felt Kumi's vocals were very mundane/lazy & can't keep up with how great the singles were & some sound like poorer cousins of her past songs

like Work It Out sounds like a poor cousin of Run For Your Life to me

but No Way is fantastic & 1 of the few sparks in UNIVERSE & that goes for You're So Beautiful which's well beautiful

I listen to TRICK a lot more than UNIVERSE sadly

love in music 20th April 2010 08:47 AM

lol I say this kind of thing a lot when comparing something really bad to something really good but it sums up perfectly how I feel so..

the best song on UNIVERSE isn't even as good as the worst song on Rock 'n' Roll circus.

Rock 'n' Roll circus of course.

nanakopy87 20th April 2010 08:47 AM

Rock'n'Roll Circus.I was bored with the songs in UNIVERSE after listen to it several times

emi♡ 20th April 2010 09:02 AM

Rock n Roll Circus...

but uh...neither are particularly GREAT albums in my book...even though I like them both.

I still find myself only liking and listening to about 5-6 songs, including interludes, on both albums.

It's kind of hard for me to compare the albums though...because both of them live up to their individual artists' sound, and both albums have songs that are pretty....standard for their respective genres...

I think Rock n Roll Circus is just a bit better...but Kuu gets props for being consistent. Ayu's last albums have been kinda failing...so this one is like a breath of fresh air...which might just heighten my bias towards it...but whatever.

Meat Pao 20th April 2010 10:52 AM

Rock'n'Roll Circus for me :yes Both albums are great though.

sanzo2011 20th April 2010 10:58 AM

Rock'n'Roll Circus ! Universe sounds so cheap to me ~~!

~StarCatcher~ 20th April 2010 11:23 AM

I go with UNIVERSE.

I like RnR Circus, but UNIVERSE is again an album which I love from the beginning till the end without skipping anything=)

Cherry Dynamite 20th April 2010 11:33 AM

Personally I think
Rock'n'Roll Circus have strong album tracks but weak single tracks,
UNIVERSE have strong single tracks but weak album tracks,
but both album doesn't really have the WOW Factor.

I go with Rock'n'Roll Circus because the songs I don't like are bearable, As for UNIVERSE the songs I dislike are unbearable.

ayumisrael 20th April 2010 11:34 AM

I voted for Rock'n'Roll Circus.

UNIVERSE was way better than Kingdom, and on par or a bit better from TRICK though it's still not one of my top favorite albums by kuu.
It had great album tracks like Step Into My World, UNIVERSE and Stay.
Except for Physical thing and ECSTASY the single songs were pretty weak for me.
It's not a bad album at all though! It's good!!

Rock'n'Roll Circus is my 2nd favorite album of all times, it blows most albums away for me because the albums tracks and 4 out of 5 of the singles' songs were very strong for me and I like the varied style in it and the rockier tracks (which is my favorite style). The album really made a big impact for me musically, more than other albums and it's almost perfect.
The main flaw is the flow mainly in the first ballad section (as Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~ is the main problem but it's not a bad song for me) and that's all.
Rock'n'Roll Circus - thumbs up!

miroro 20th April 2010 11:43 AM

RnRCircus
i loved universe, but i still think something was missing in the album :yes
as fo RnRC, it's one of my favoruites albums <3

SURREAL__RAINBOW 20th April 2010 12:19 PM

RnRC

i love UNIVERSE... but RnRC is much more fun to listen to ^^ more variety... somehow UNIVERSE is starting to sound all the same to me :/

NintendoHTF1242 20th April 2010 12:31 PM

As much as I love Sexy little things, BALLAD, and montage. I had to go with UNIVERSE. UNIVERSE just had more tracks that I really love. While Rock'n'Roll Circus only had 4, maybe 5.

TITANIC 20th April 2010 03:10 PM

UNIVERSE obviously

♥Rain 20th April 2010 05:00 PM

this is pretty difficult for me kinda. i love R'n'R Circus a lot. it blew her past album out the water for me but...but. i adore universe which has become one of my favorite koda albums. i listen to it pretty much everyday on the train and i never get bored of it.

Far Away 20th April 2010 05:10 PM

UNIVERSE for me, without a doubt. It's my favorite album from Kuu and probably my favorite release of 2010 so far. <3

freedreamer 20th April 2010 05:18 PM

As an album, i think the FEELING that UNIVERSE exudes is what Ayu's (m)u exudes for me. No doubt, I regard UNIVERSE as a greatly put together album, and her best after BLACK CHERRY.

However, going by emotional quality, I thinnk RnRC has some of Ayu's (once again) most personal songs. I can feel the emotion in the rock songs and at the same time the fun songs are also good. If I were to put a comparison song-by-song, Ayu would win.

Overall, I think Ayu won. PV wise, it's a shoo win. (UNIVERSE's new PVs were...=.=)
actually Im really having second thoughts LOL...but then I looked at the tracklist again, I realized ŭes, Kuu's album has that all-round, full circle feeling but for me, some songs are Kuu's best, others are really recycled (just as if others were to say some of the songs on RNRC are recycled)

JackieRos 20th April 2010 05:48 PM

UNIVERSE doesn't compete

Pieces_of_SEVEN 21st April 2010 12:15 AM

R'n'RC for me. UNIVERSE was kinda crap IMO.

Kesteral 26th April 2010 03:08 AM

Universe hasn't stuck with me the same way that Trick did. Rock'n'Roll Circus on the other hand is a very solid album that I've been enjoying from start to finish since it was released.

rookies 26th April 2010 03:10 AM

Rock n Roll Circus is better.

primavera♥ 26th April 2010 09:36 PM

RnRC

UNIVERSE was good :) but nothing special for me. only a few songs i really like as opposed to RnRC with these amazing tracks for me.

gallowsCalibrator 26th April 2010 09:38 PM

R'n'RC most definitely :luv2

Kazeyomi 26th April 2010 09:52 PM

Rock'n'Roll Circus.

RnC's more strong and well made than UNIVERSE.
UNIVERSE sounds so messy, rushed and boring :| Kuu I'm disappointed.

amorphose 26th April 2010 09:57 PM

Rock'n'Roll Circus!

Koda Kumi pretty much lost my interest after 2007. The only songs from her I've enjoyed since LAST ANGEL are That Ain't Cool and TABOO. Her music is so boring for me now. :(

cavonzia 26th April 2010 10:14 PM

Rock'n'roll Circuss
i only like few song from UNIVERSE,it's not her best album

Lady~Deviance 27th April 2010 02:36 AM

Neither albums are that exceptional in my opinion but R'n'RC is better by a slight margin.

Mirrorcle Monster 27th April 2010 05:20 PM

Rock´n´Roll Circus. UNIVERSE is a godd album, and You´re so Beautiful is lovely, but it has too many random songs

kiseki 27th April 2010 06:12 PM

For me, it's Rock'n'Roll circus

LOL, THIS. RnRC ALL the way.

CaseNumber:825 27th April 2010 11:13 PM

I'm gonna have to say Rock'n'Roll Circus
It's an absolutely flawless album, I adore almost every song

UNIVERSE, while I did love it, didn't blow me away. TRICK was pure awesome, yet UNIVERSE fell somewhat short
I dunno why, the songs were all good but some of them felt a bit random.

I'm not particularly good at explaining myself, but yeah, my choice is Rock'n'Roll Circus

Chandrachan 28th April 2010 12:07 AM

I like 7 songs from Rock'n'Roll
I like 9 songs from UNIVERSE
So I'm gonna choose UNIVERSE

KuuXAyu-fan 29th April 2010 04:58 AM

This is really hard but I have to go with UNIVERSE. I enjoy alot more tracks on it then RNRC but some of RNRC's best is better then UNIVERSE's best. And while UNIVERSE is amazing on a whole, I will say nothing on it as anywhere near TABOO.

Yoake 29th April 2010 08:28 AM

No doubt! Rock'n'Roll Circus is the best album!!!

aqua_crystal 29th April 2010 04:29 PM

Rock'n'Roll Circus by a veerrrryy long mile~

Twinkle ! 29th April 2010 05:24 PM

UNIVERSE is way better than TRICK and i think it's her best album after BC

NEXT LEVEL Was awesome and way better than R'N'R , Rock'n'Roll Disappoint me :no

adantatu2 1st May 2010 04:51 AM

R'n'RC, i love more songs in this album

AyUta 1st May 2010 05:08 AM

Easy, ayu.

Zeke. 1st May 2010 05:12 AM

This is an Ayu forum so it's biased. I voted for UNIVERSE. The album is more fun. A lot catchier. I just like more of the songs.

tokyoxjapanxfan 1st May 2010 06:38 AM

universe is rather forgettable for me.
it might be partly due to the fact that it was hidden under a best album, haha... but iunno, there weren't that many stand out tracks on it.

so i'm going with RnRC ~

2Hurt 1st May 2010 01:19 PM

I went with UNIVERSE, I both don't find them great albums, though I really hate R'n'R Circus :no

Corvina 2nd May 2010 05:28 PM

UNIVERSE.
R'n'RC has some strong songs, but overall it's an inconsistent album for me (with some of Ayu's worst songs ever on it: Sunset and meaning of Love).

aisubeki 2nd May 2010 10:07 PM

I LOVE both of these albums,

But Rock 'n Roll Circus, easily. :love :love :love

noisy_harmony 2nd May 2010 10:08 PM

Sorry Ayu, but I'm going to vote for UNIVERSE. I loved all songs from this album (yes, and also Lick me, finally), it's different thing with R'n'C, unfortunately.

lovelism 3rd May 2010 09:01 AM

RnRC for me!

Hanabi_surreal 5th May 2010 04:37 AM

Rock'n'Roll Circus is soooooooooooooooooooooo much better than UNIVERSE ._. in UNIVERSE I only like 2 songs ._.

Minttulatte 5th May 2010 04:25 PM

I prefer UNIVERSE. Rock'n'Roll Circus is a good album but I still like Kuu's album more. Better songs and no interludes. :D Lately I've gotten tired of those interludes somehow. Probably because I've been listening to other artists more. But anyhoo, I prefer UNIVERSE in every single way you can think of. Perfection. <3

jean-baptiste 5th May 2010 08:59 PM

damn this is hard. =\

tinka69 6th May 2010 11:53 AM

No offence to Kuu but the interludes on RnRC are better than most of thefull length tracks on Universe...which says A LOT. Universe has a couple of decent songs but they are not reinforced at all! The album was a flop.

RnR all the way.

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 6th May 2010 02:10 PM

duh... Rock'n'Roll Circus...

Polyrhythm 10th May 2010 06:18 AM

Rock'n'Roll Circus...but only by a little.

CHE.R.RY 12th May 2010 01:48 AM

LOL this is so easy for me. I've really not liked Kuu's last two albums...but I've consistently loved Ayu's releases...so I think you can guess what I chose :innocent.

Kingdom 12th May 2010 01:53 AM

universe! I like Rock N Roll circus much much much more than GUILTY and NL, but kuu put together a much more solid album this time around.

y_nathz 13th May 2010 02:43 PM

It's kinda hard since I love both :weep
Going with RnRC this time, Microphone killed me again x_x

hsienko 13th May 2010 02:51 PM

As much as I love RnR Circus I went with UNIVERSE. Can't beat 3 SPLASH and You're So Beautiful.

xLuna&1LOVE 13th May 2010 04:49 PM

I have never liked Koda Kumi...

non3ko 14th May 2010 02:59 AM

Rock'n'Roll Circus

UNIVERSE didn't leave much of a lasting impression... I've forgotten most of the songs. ^_^'

omgpeachsnapple 14th May 2010 09:59 PM

Universe. Sorry Ayu.

C+R+E+AYUMI 17th May 2010 07:42 AM

maybe UNIVERSE?? undecided

Miduhyo 21st May 2010 12:45 AM

Rock N Roll Circus

Universe sounded like her past CD's... couple of rock songs. Couple of pop songs. Couple of slow songs. One cutesy song.

RnRC had a variety of different stuff. It was newer than Universe. IMO :yes

Kana×Shin 7th June 2011 10:00 PM

Rock'n'Roll Circus

toniayu 9th June 2011 12:13 PM

Delicious n Bold 25th May 2012 01:36 AM

Aw darn, I voted for koda kumi...
I wanted to vote for rock n roll circus.

Kouyou 25th May 2012 11:55 PM

This is so hard for me... :dead2 Not because I think the albums are on par with one another, but because I find it hard to admit that I like a Kuu album more than an Ayu one, and that's certainly the case here for me. I love Rock 'n' Roll Circus, but UNIVERSE is one of my all-time favorite Kuu albums. I love almost every single track and I play it over and over. Rock 'n' Roll Circus is a fantastic album, but UNIVERSE has a special place in my heart. :heart

happiholic★ 10th July 2014 05:00 AM

Universe. RnRC was the Ayu album that really had me losing interest in her. I remember not really caring to listen to all the album tracks from this album and when I did I was disappointed (I've never really got the hype for Don't Look Back). And then the Love Songs era really sealed the deal. So, despite that Universe isn't my favorite album from Kuu (and I really hate the covers) I had to vote for it.

Tom Punks 11th July 2014 07:51 PM

ewww I voted for UNIVERSE can I change my vote :-(

UNIVERSE is okay. they're both kind of similar because they're not really cohesive, just a bunch of songs of totally different sounds thrown together on a disc. UNIVERSE is probably my least favorite modern Kuu album though lol, I just find it all bland and forgettable compared to her others...

Rock'n'Roll Circus is definitely not Ayu's best album, and it suffers a lot from being front-loaded with ballads and having uninspired, emotionless ballads in general but there's something about the rest of the tracks, poor production notwithstanding, that's just :heart the more upbeat tracks (along with some from Party Queen) are my go-to when I want loud, fun Ayu music these days lol
