Cantopop vs. Mandopop

What do you prefer, or rather, what makes up a bigger percentage of your library?

Mandarin for me...I can understand some of it, but not Cantonese. I also tend to prefer the trends of Taiwanese artists over HK artists, with some notable exceptions (Karen Mok....OH MY GOD KAREN MOK!!!!)

StarSUCKER 22nd May 2010 04:55 PM

Sorry, mods, I thought I was in the polls subforum when I posted this. >_<;

JackieRos 22nd May 2010 05:18 PM

Mandarin pop

rookies 23rd May 2010 01:06 AM

C-pop.

pommy48 23rd May 2010 06:55 AM

Mandopop

I rarely listen to cantopop...Something about the language when sung is a bit weird for me~ But I do like some of the classics in cantopop

y_nathz 23rd May 2010 06:58 AM

Mandopop for sure :yes

Ngl, that's how I feel, too. I mean, I listen to some stuff in Cantonese, but Mandarin dominates my Chinese music folder for sure.

Fair Wind 23rd May 2010 09:30 AM

Mandopop. Cantopop is too accented for my liking, especially in ballads. Plus I've been exposed more to Mandopop.

mcluva420 23rd May 2010 09:58 AM

mandarinnn!! canto just doesnt sound as good :P

SURREAL__RAINBOW 23rd May 2010 10:24 AM

2Hurt 23rd May 2010 11:23 AM

Mandarin pop :)

AyuHamasaki01 23rd May 2010 01:08 PM

eeeh call me stupid but what's the difference? xD.

maddy1111 23rd May 2010 07:14 PM

AyuHamasaki01: language ;)

Canto / Mando.. it is really hard question, mandarin chinese sounds a little bit better for my ears, but my most favourite artists sing in cantonese (Joey, Karen etc.)
so i cant choose ..i just prefer chinese music :)

Twinkle ! 23rd May 2010 09:26 PM

if jolin is a Mando so it's my favorite then :D

Polyrhythm 24th May 2010 07:42 AM

I always think people speaking/singing in Cantonese are fighting....

PoetGirl 24th May 2010 12:11 PM

both equally!

mobius 28th May 2010 04:03 AM

I like them both equally.

I understand Mandarin music more than Cantonese music though.

alternarist 28th May 2010 04:52 AM

mandopop. but one thing i dont really like about mandopop is that their lyrics usually dont make any sense.

AyumiBest 28th May 2010 10:58 AM

Mandopop, it doesn't seem as boring as Cantopop in my opinion. Sad thing is, I understand Cantonese better than Mandarin. LOL

This...seriously the cookie cutter karaoke ballad trend needs to DIE ALREADY.

Also, Cantonese inflection does sound a bit strange to me, but only since I began to learn Mandarin. Before then, I couldn't always hear the difference. Now I wonder how I could have possibly gotten them confused. :shakehead

Some HK artists who also sing in Mandarin do their best work in Cantonese though. :heart

butterfly_ayu 30th June 2010 05:54 AM

I listen to Mandarin Pop mostly, like Jolin, Jay Chou, Jam Hsiao, A mei etc... they all have good music :)
but Cantonese Pop - OMG, I love Eason Chan <--------------- he is actually the only cantonese-speaking artist i listen to. One of my all-time favorite singers. <333 his music is VERY good~~!

maddy1111 30th June 2010 07:12 AM

i dont listen him so much, but his album Listen To Eason Chan is masterpiece! One of the best canto albums :)

zellyx 4th July 2010 03:47 AM

Mando :)

adantatu2 7th July 2010 06:04 AM

Mandopop!!!

rakeru 7th July 2010 06:33 AM

I like some Cantonese bands, but mostly I stick with TWpop/rock.

PEARL 10th July 2010 04:20 AM

Even though im a chinese but i seems to love listening to other languages other than my own language..(god knows how long i have not been listening to mandopop artist like 5 years ago?!!?)

Cantopop for me~ there are some who have good vocals.

~*Cotton_Berry*~ 12th July 2010 01:54 AM

MANDO FTW 100%

Shirlaay 26th August 2010 03:58 PM

Mandopop ftw! I can't stand cantopop (no offence here).

Dejan 28th August 2010 01:06 PM

I understand some mandarin, and i know only like 3 words in cantonese. My favourite chinese singers are Angela Chang and Stephanie Cheng, one is from Taiwan, the other one from HK... Well, i don't know, i guess i have more mando songs in my library, because i also listen to mainland china music. So i choose mandopop.

Yoake 28th August 2010 03:38 PM

Both about equally
