This isn't necessarily confirmed, but the gist of it is that Ayu said on Twitter to the CEO of Softbank that she wanted to be a part of the Softbank CMs with the otou-san dog and the CEO said "Let's do it!"~

She was just like: "Hello, this is Hamasaki Ayumi. I would like to work with Otou-san!"

And the CEO was like "Let's do it!" as stated before haha.

We'll just have to wait and see... Maybe someday she could promote iPhone for Japan... Particularly the new 4G model...

She currently has an iPad, so her commercial will probably be featuring the iPad and the otou-san. Ayu will probably be a related family member or something, haha. (I'm supposing this because the iPad is only supported by Softbank right now, I believe and they don't have a CM out for it yet with the Otou-san... or do they?!)

^Because the setup of the series of commercials is that he's the "father" of a family. The main character is the (human) daughter, mother, and a son who happens to be of African descent. :laugh

Softbank is one of the biggest phone companies in Japan. Wonderful company to have a tie-up with!!!

I guess. The promotions I've seen for au (another phone company) includes lotsa good stuff, like:

- Free handphone promotion booklets (these are really awesome sometimes, it's like a photoshoot by itself with many different photos of the spokesperson and the phone in different places and stuff)
- CM playing in major outlets 24/7
- Huge posters decorating the storefront
- CM playing on TV quite frequently
- Posters plastered all over train stations. This is amazing because it's like, every pillar/wall is filled with posters~ sort of like that Lumix promotion photo someone posted sometime back
- Sometimes, huge posters on buildings around downtown areas like Shinjuku.

I just hope Softbank will follow au's example and do all these too. It'll be amazing ayu promotion!! :D

This was one of the older commercials (2007 or 2008, but definitely no later than 2008), and it involved the iPhone; I hope Ayu can promote SoftBank with the new iPhone that is to be announced at San Francisco in Apple's 2010 Worldwide Developers Conference...

I feel like this commercial would be rather ineffective in the US... Why is it so popular in Japan? It doesn't exactly encourage me to buy (another) IPhone.

Well, that was actually one of the more boring ones. Some are quite funny.

There's a whole series of them and the point is that the characters are familiar, everybody knows them. It's not as much that they directly push a product, but more that they simply use it or show it and everyone's like "OMGOTOUSANHASONEHOWCUUUUUUTEINEEDONETOO".
