Sadly, those chances are very slim, almost non-existing :) 280k is prolly the highest it'll get.

WOw, that sales are really consistent, I thought that with the first week sales that album won't cross 250k, but if it remains in charts many time it could cross 300k, or even surpase RnC

It's nice to see the third week does SLIGHTLY better than RnR, it's probably the result of Love Song doing pretty well on the charts, and also Virgin Road rising again after Kouhaku.

Ok ouch..that's sudden after so many days of being at the top few spots

That's because there are new albums today =) Unlike the past 2 weeks.

As Tal said, it was expected. With some luck it will slowly climb back. Still it's in top10 even with the new releases so that's a good thing as it most likely won't drop more this week.

But still, with a slew of new albums, it's still in the top 10 ;) that's pretty good!

BTW, in an English magazine in Japan called Metropolis, they had a small piece on music for 2011, what's coming out and such. I wasn't expecting them to mention Ayu but they did. They said that even though Love songs is technically a 2010 album, it could end up being one of the top selling albums of 2011 in JPop.

I didn't understand where that was coming from...haha. But yeah, thought it was, uh, weird. :P

It was released past counting 2010 albums, that is why it is going to figure in this list.

That's pretty impressive, honestly. But I shouldn't be surprised at her consistency to kick arse.

Makes me scared for Koda's album though.

There are 7 newly released albums in top 10 and it's been 3+ weeks since the album was released, it's selling less than 2k most likely and it would be impossible for it to stay in top 5 considering everything :)

Yeah I am also interested to see how will Ku's next album fare considering it's not being wrapped up with a Best of this year.

Also, usually Kumi releases her album first and she does a bit better than Ayu but this time Ayu released hers first... I wonder if Kumi will still do better?

can't be mad...she has stayed up high for a while.

I'm sorry I don't get the relationship between "who releases first" and "who will sell better" between these two artists.

It's just a pattern I noticed. I'm not saying it's definite. I'm aware there are other factors that contribute to who sells better.

And sometimes they flip flop, but lately Kumi has been releasing first and then Ayu follows with slightly lower sales. So for me it's an unofficial estimate of how each other will sell since their sales are so close.

There is no relation between the two. It just happened that during the past 2 years or so, Ku would release her albums in February and Ayu would follow.

It did well I'm hoping it can stay in the top 10 for this week :)

We only know the position, not the sales, so I don't see how this would she's dropped in sales that much. Considering most of the albums in the top 10 are OLD, their daily sales must be around the same level now (2k), which means that they jump around a lot. Unless she suddenly jumps down towards 30, I wouldn't worry about the eventual sales : /

Actually all the albums in top 10 except for KARA are new.

Really? My bad then!

Still, if the only reason she went down is because of new releases, then that means there is even less cause for concern : P

lol Im already worrying about eventual sales...It's not going to sell as well as her last albums...so...it's a drop...It's already 30k+ less than RNRC.

It's not like it's going to go on and sell another 200k in the next few months lol

Sure, it's good for Japan...but I just thought that maybe they would plateau and reflect much more similar figures. It's not off by like 100k or anything...but still steadily declining...which like I said, makes me scared for other female solos...

the next one being koda, since she has the closest figures to ayu in terms of sales.


I don't really care about her position either. That's all marketing ensured by Avex. Besides, other people don't really sell like the top artists do.

although I think that avex trax is ok with the sales, if they weren't of course they would promote more this album =]

And they don't always have it. But yeah, sadly, they seem to be the next hot thing in Japan too.

Just out of curiosity. What made you think it would sell more? After Duty, none of Ayu's albums sold better than the previous one. This album also had no actual hits prior to it :)

We're 15 days into the new year... I doubt she'll be in the top 10, or perhaps even 20 in December. =P

But we're just getting started in 2011... Quite a surprise there! Not sure how it goes if Ayu releases another album before end of 2011, plus AKB48, maybe Arashi, etc...

Haha I do think k-pop has a more successful formula and appealing packaging to it than j-pop even if the substance is lacking. Their stuff is catchy whereas Japanese pop can often be too eclectic or different from what's mainstream in other countries yet mundane to Japanese listeners.

Ayu used to be THE mainstream without having common-sounding music which was an impressive feat not achieved by many. Now, she still deviates from most other artists but it's because her stuff isn't mainstream enough anymore that she can't sell like she used to along with the fact that she's been around for sooo long and released so much that people start to lose track of what she's doing.

Anyway, Love songs is an awesome album and will hopefully attract the attention it deserves!

See, I wish more people would focus on this than on the overall sale figures. She's popular -- maybe not MASSIVELY like she used to be, but that's not a bad thing. There's still interest in her and her work, and as long as there's a demand (or a response to the things she does) she's going to do well.

The position is the least important thing, there are albums that sell 20k and get #1 :)

You're such a little black raincloud, you know that? O_o Sale figures mean **** to me. Flat out, they mean absolute **** to me. The fact that something can reach and maintain a top ten position is THE most important thing to me. Dir en grey, another band I love, never really has high sales at all, but they've maintained top ten positions for a few of their recent releases, and that makes me proud of them. I couldn't give a crap less how much they sell.

It IS impressive that she's in the top 10 still regardless of what she sells. If she sold 10 copies and is still in the top 10, it's impressive LOL.

I wish the actual sales numbers would be put up.

Besides, we can all like what we want, but how is prefering sales over positions being negative? I'd rather have an artist I support be no. 7 with 23k sales in a strong week than no. 1 with 20k sales. O.o

How high something charts really only tells you how lucky/carefully planned a certain release is. Except when talking about certain groups like Mr. Children
and Arashi.

Chill. No need to get upset. What means little to you means a lot to avex and Ayu :) Dir en grey is an amazing example of how little the position actually means. The position is really a very relative thing that ultimately means nothing.

Exactly. The high position can be achieved thru careful planning more than anything else now days and Ayu's singles have pretty much proven that during the last few years (and not only hers ofc).

I said what I said because there are some people who get all in a tizzy about sales figures, and I think that's a bit silly. I don't know why it's being blown out of proportion, but I guess I should have expressed more "lulz" and less "lol get over it" in my initial post. Oops. Oh well.

I do agree about the people panicking. I care about sales and I'm interested in them, but if Ayu sells 100k for her next album I won't cry and ***** about it. I just like discussing it : P

It's very obvious Ayu isn't too concerned with sales, there's a lot of freedom when you're not expected to sell above and beyond anymore. Imagine the day Arashi sells the amount Ayu does.

Well it's doing an impressive job as far as charting goes, but sales not as much :(. It surprises me to hear that a lot of people are pretty sure it won't make it to 300k...In fact, I was hoping for at least 300k, but it certainly doesn't look that way so far.

of course it wont make 300k :~ it's sad.. but true :/ this album will have a short chart life

by now, it's having a better chart life than her previous albums...

I mean after the expectation of selling millions. I would imagine it would be a little weird at first.
