The story behind the birth of ayupans
8 February 2011. 9:51pm

Good evening!

I'm Mayuzumi, or "Zu-Mi-Ma-Yu-" on Twitter.

Firstly, let me introduce myself a little to those who don't know who I am.

I create goods.

So,

for all those who have questions like

"What goods will come out this time?..."

Or "How did you make this goods?..."

I'll use this entry to show everyone the making-of story of some goods ♪

I'm sure everyone is aware that

To commemorate 『ayumi hamasaki Rock'n'Roll Circus Tour FINAL ~7days Special~』 DVD release on 30 March,

ayupans dressed in stage costumes will be sold on mu-mo from 18 March onwards!

It's already become tradition, eh? ヽ(・∀・)ノ♪

And so! This time, we'll bring you right into the ayupan-making process... ♪

【1】 Creating Illustrations

Firstly... don-san (Yamamoto Nori), who always does ayupan illustrations, will look at the stage costumes and sketch out some drawings.

http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/...g/110208-1.jpg
Even the sketches of ayupan are so cute ♪

And then, we will decide on things like "Let's put her in this pose ♪" and "Let's emphasize this bit!"...

http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/...g/110208-2.jpg
Illustrations done!!

【2】 Making Models

Next, expert figurine moulders will follow the illustrations to create real ayupan figure models!

These models determine how the final ayupan will look like, so this is a very very important step.

The artist's skills shine through ☆

http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/...g/110208-3.jpg
So detailed (≧o≦;)

These are slowly cut out from wax!

【3】 Making Replicas from Silicon Moulds

Next, using silicon moulds, we copy the template model made in 【2】.

http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/...g/110208-4.jpg
Captions. Top: Silicon. Bottom: Liquid mould flows in from here

Then we pour in liquid mould...

http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/...g/110208-5.jpg
Caption: Replica

We make 2 replicas!

These replicas are made of a material harder than wax. One of the replicas will go on a journey as a template to create many many more replicas...

The other replica...

【4】 Making Coloured Samples

Is used for sample colouring for the ayupan!!

Following a preset colouring code, the replica is coloured, and final touches are added.

This coloured ayupan will then go on a journey as a sample to the colouring factory.

http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/...g/110208-6.jpg
※ Welcoming these 3 ayupans on their journey

And then, all the mass-produced figurines will be hand coloured one-by-one,

and many many ayupan figurines are born ♪(o=゜▽゜)人(゜▽゜=o)♪

This is a simplified process, but that's the story of the ayupan-making-of process that is taking place right now.

All this while... And way into the future too... Many workers had and will create ayupans with love, using their hands.

And on 16 March 4pm, photos of the completed ayupans will be uploaded onto the ayupan special page in mu-mo shop.

Do check it out.

And that was U。・ェ・。U Mayuzumi

thanks Misa-chan!! ^__^

I wonder, though, I think I've read somewhere that Ayu is the one who designs the ayupan. She doesn't do that anymore then? =o

Bubbly 9th February 2011 11:01 AM

Thanks for translatinG!
Thats interesting to read ^^

But does anyone know why the Ayupans barely ever smile? Was this ever explained?

nanakopy87 9th February 2011 11:33 AM

Not sure. If you look at this entry, the first pic shows the ayupan on the right smiling, but in the second pic, it's changed to a frowning face...

AyUmIXx 9th February 2011 12:16 PM

OMGGGGG thanks for sharing Misa-chan!!!
the ayupans are SO CUTEEE!!

elvesword 9th February 2011 12:35 PM

I think they try to make the ayupan similar to the mood of the concert performance. For example if she performs "Microphone" she is powerful and serious, and since the ayupans can only smile or look... grumpy:laugh, that's why most of them don't smile. Because only few of ayu's performances are totally cheerful and smiley.

MissElin_ 9th February 2011 01:47 PM

Colour by hand? Every single one of them?! THAT I didn't know. How awesome.

I love my Ayupans even more now!~

Thanks Angellove! <3

Urmm.. I think the Ayupans that colored by hands are only for the sample to the coloring factory. Not all Ayupans were colored by hands.

Thanks for the translation, Misa! And serious thanks to the author, because this is a really cool tutorial! I had no idea all the Ayupans were at least partially hand-made. It makes them all the more special!

Awesome! I love how detailed the wax samples are~

I wish that they would make scaled Ayu figures in the future... come on, Ayu! Collaborate with GOOD SMILE COMPANY. Pleeeaaasssee?

Wow, I love learning about how they made them!! I'm a huge ayupan fan so this was really good to know!! :love

ayumasing 10th February 2011 05:31 AM

Thank you for the translation!

Wah, so that's how they make that? So cool! XD I wish I could get Ayupans...-sighs-

lividlillies 10th February 2011 06:43 AM

I wish ayupans would smile... My main reason for not liking them a lot is how sad they look! I don't want to see Ayu frowning! How is that cute ayupan going to make me feel cheerful if it looks at me so balefully?

The picture where she's smiling looks so much nicer than any of the other steps in the ayupan. It's cute and cheerful!

alternarist 10th February 2011 08:57 AM

this is very interesting!!

pink_horse_088 10th February 2011 09:48 AM
