"Asia is one" was a very bold move to do, considering the relationship between China and Japan... All the package, from the motto of this era to kissing a chinese guy on a PV, very brave.

Everytime she's kicking ass on a stage showing why she is a world class performer, I'm pretty much a happy fan^^

letter 31st August 2011 05:46 AM

Ayu's dedication, strength of character and honesty as a young singer in the first couple of years of her career. CREA, and her compositions, which amongst her discography are some of the most memorable.

Musically-wise, songs that were released once I had become a fan, GREEN and Mirrorcle World.

Zeke. 31st August 2011 06:01 AM

Too many...

Days
Probably the biggest satisfaction ever. Now it doesn't mean it's my favorite song ever (as it's not), but it is one of my favorites. It was just so satisfactory to finally get a full-fledged in-your-face Winter ballad like this. So cheery yet so bittersweet. Ah, it's to die for!

Love songs
I kept my expectations low after Virgin Road (which I absolutely loathe) and disappointing MOON (not to mention the boring-at-the-time-of-release crossroad and L single)... but, Sweet Season and Last angel totally grew on me, as well as crossroad. Come album time, it wasn't long before MOON became an obsession for a short while (first time I actually listened to it in full). Sending mail + November... everything except Thank U and Virgin Road I love.

Announcement of ayu-trance 4
Big satisfaction right there. Even though the majority of remixes turned out cheap, old, and boring... The remix of SEASONS makes it all worth it.

The fact that she continues to release an album every single year

  • Love songs - this album made me so freaking happy when I first listened to it
  • Don't look back PV
  • MY STORY, Secret
  • (miss)understood (after letting it grow on me)
  • Rock'n'Roll Circus Tour - I'm still not really in love with this concert, but it was a huge step up from her tours from the past few years
  • SEVEN DAYS WAR - I was sooo pleasantly surprised by how good the production and vocals were on this song
  • Mirrorcle World
  • JEWEL PV - I totally adored this when it came out :P

thatstacey 31st August 2011 02:48 PM

I really love all of her albums (haven't heard FIVE yet, but I've lowered my expectations based on feedback here lol), so satisfaction is pretty par for the course for Ayu and me. :) Some exceptionally awesome releases were:

"evolution" ...I remember just being in awe the first time I heard it; it was so unlike anything I'd ever heard before--from Ayu and otherwise.

"Mirrorcle World" was everything I could have hoped for in an anniversary song and more.

"Love song" was the last thing I expected to come out of Ayu, let alone an Ayu + TK collaboration. Everything about it is perfect; it's easily one of my favorite songs ever. I'm only sad that she'll probably never do anything like it again.

"Bold & Delicious." It was everything a song called "Bold & Delicious" should have been, and I loved it. I still love it. Come at me.

koumori 31st August 2011 03:00 PM

:heart

Right..biggest Ayu satisfactions..? Lol, right okay, let's see..

Well, I love her honesty. Right from the word go, from her official AVEX debut she spoke so openly and truthfully in her lyrics, and even now she does the same, whether it's on Twitter, TA or through her songs. She truely feels her fans are another kind of "family", and that sort of genuine love for so many people..well, it's hard not to love her for that, right?

The way she works so hard..she always has worked hard, and now she's learned throughout her career, I think, how to tone it down so she has a balance between working and having fun. I think she's a really positive role model in that way, since she worked hard for what she has now. Also that she speaks out, always, for what she wants..she's very stubborn, but now in her thirties, she is so mature about it too.

Anyway, I could rant forever about Ayu the Person :laugh Her music..I actually love ASFXX-(m)u so much, I think I could put those albums on repeat for weeks and not get bored. I could really get into writing pages and pages to why I love each song, on each album, so much but..I'll save you the boredom :tipsy

Recently? I like her Leslie Kee x Ayumi Hamasaki projects going on, I'm going to be really sad when it ends. And weird as this sounds, her latest Scawaii cover really surprised me, it's really good and natural and one of the best since NAKED TALK.
I also love that she's working with at least a new composer and that their song was, for the majority, a really good song :) Maybe she'll take more risks to work with new people for the future, because she needs to, imo

Oh, and I love her style. No matter what, she always looks flawless..girl never lets herself go :laugh

@thatstacey: BOOOOOOOLD AND DELICIOUUUUUUS ♫ :heart

ayu_ready? 31st August 2011 07:49 PM

when I saw her in SURREAL PV & then I saw Dearest PV and I cried for Dearest even though I didn't know who she was. I cried because of melody and she was so beauitful
she became my icon since then. for her sincerity & pure heart as I saw it in 2001. for her style, taste, look, adorable eyes. for her hard work for A BEST. for her commtiment to work. for everything.

Duty album, A BEST, RAINBOW, Memorial adress, MY STORY, TOKYO DOME (although I don't like her voice at some parts, it's my fav era, and don't forget the story behind it, the suffering she had to overcome). her strength. mental & physical too. her will and the ability to never give up and go forward. A Museum is a best concert despite some crappy outfits, vocal wise. and her forgiveness performance was just super epic.

for everything :)

she's an ispiration and alive example of what you can become due to your hardwork, talent and character.

CREA. lyrics. lyrics 1998-2004. A Song for XX is still my hymne. the hymne of strength. whenever I feel super depressed I listen to it and I know it by heart. it really helps.

for songs like...A Song for XX, HANABI, End roll, M, Dearest, Duty, Far away, SEASONS, Endless sorrow, still alone, I am..., RAINBOW, HAPPY ENDING, HEAVEN, criminal, fated, Do It Again.

PoetGirl 31st August 2011 08:09 PM

its so many to count, thats why Im here, but most of all...

album DUTY, its just the most amazing album ever, its so perfect imo
from covers to lyrics to songs... and I love her voice there

other than that, all her other albums and singles except Secret

person she is, how dedicated she is

ren'ai 31st August 2011 08:31 PM

Her albums :heart every single one of them has something to offer and mostly they each have a LOOOOOT to offer.

Her lyrics. No need to say more.

And of course, her determination and hard work is inspiring :yes

Kacku 31st August 2011 08:46 PM

Her personality: she's strong, determined, kind, funny and I find her inspiring.

Her lyrics: usually, I barely even pay attention to lyrics when listening to music, but Ayu's lyrical style - personal, not overly metaphorical - is very capturing and more often than not makes for beautiful and touching songs.

Her performances: not every artist has the power to throw a viewer on an emotional roller coaster when said viewer is watching her on a crappy youtube video.

Her musical diversity: I love how she can sound perfectly at home with trance, piano ballads, hard rock, basic pop and pretty much everything in-between. And she also makes all of the different styles work.

As for some more specific stuff: the albums (miss)understood, Duty, Love songs, LOVEppears, Memorial address, RAINBOW and Rock'n'Roll Circus. DOME TOUR 2001, PREMIUM COUNTDOWN LIVE 2008-2009, ARENA TOUR 2010 ~Rock'n'Roll Circus~. ayu-mi-x 7. A ton of songs deserving of special mention which I won't list because I'd have to come back tomorrow and edit in some new special honorary mentions for songs that I would happen to love that day (and that's usually a lot).

Dolly_FACE 31st August 2011 08:48 PM

Her honesty and the fact that she really seems to appreciate and love her fans.

I know they're not fan favs, but Secret and GUILTY are one of my favourite albums from her mainly because they were the first album releases from her i experienced and for that they will always be special to me.

AT05

Rock n roll era hair. The colour, the cut... to die!

Song wise, i guess all songs from her A song for XX + Loveppears album. I could literally go on for days about why i love everyone of these songs.

Pride. - I just love everything about this song. The lyrics, her voice, the pv.

Jewel. - I could listen to that song for days.

To join the masses, her lyrics also of course. They rarely disappoint in my eyes.

I Am... at CDL09-10

mi|kshake 31st August 2011 10:25 PM

So many things here goes:
  • 1 of the main ones for me - PVs! Not every PV is amazing but she does have a ton of amazing videos. I like how she obviously cares what the video will look like because to me a video is as important as the song and not many people put that much effort into it nowadays IMO (Hikaru used to have some great PVs and even if I don't always love her videos Gaga always makes the effort!)
  • How nice she is to fans, especially her acknowledgement of overseas fans
  • CREA & CREA + DAI compsitions as well as HAL arrangements - they just have that Ayumi sound! Also interludes!
  • This might not be a popular one but the inclusion of the band and dancers at her concerts. OK I do think there are too many dancers on the stage at the one time sometimes, but I like it how she includes everybody. Her concerts feel like a big party towards the end! Plus the dancers and band are also want make it an Ayu concert
  • New album every year - definately appreciate that!

jbrat2219 31st August 2011 11:29 PM

My God, where do I begin...

Well as others have said, I love her for herself. She's pretty much the only artist who's personality I adore more than her music. She's like one of the classiest ladies alive and my admiration for her is boundless. I love how much I can relate and connect to her music no matter what. I love how she's always trying to find ways to get closer to all of her fans, not just her Japanese fans. I love how she always gives everything her best even if we don't think it is her best. And lastly, I especially love how she follows what she believes in and (although it annoys some fans) the way she sticks up for her friends and those closest to her brings me to tears. The recent a-nation drama is proof of how much of a good friend she is. She was willing to sacrifice being the last performer, after all the years of tradition, to stand up for what she believed to be right. How can you not admire someone for that?

On the music front, other than what I posted in the "disappointment thread," I'm very very rarely genuinely disappointed with her work. Even if I detest something, it doesn't really disappoint me in the sense that I wish it were something else because I know it's what she wants it to be.

My favorite albums are (miss)understood and Love songs. I was particularly impressed with the arrangement on Love songs, it always takes my breath away. I feel like from an instrumental-musical sense it is her best album yet. I was highly satisfied with pretty much everything on that album, MOON even grew on me a bit.

I was out of this world thrilled about Don't Look Back, from the time the Lumix commercial came out I said to myself, "this is going to be my new favorite song" and it was, and is still one of my most favorites of all time. I adore the You were... PV, pretty much one of my top 10 favorites. I love every fiber of the fake, cut-out, cardboard trees :laugh.

I was outstandingly satisfied with NEXT LEVEL, I know it's said far too often but I honestly do NOT get the hate. It's the kind of album I've wanted her to do since I've became a fan - something fun, sassy and carefree. I don't even need to say how great Sparkle is.

I won't go on and on but I'm pretty much mostly satisfied with everything from (m)u onward. I think they're all her best work in her discography with the inclusion of Memorial Address, not including FIVE :laugh.

Concerts: AT06, 09, 10. CDL 05-06, PCDL.

love in music 31st August 2011 11:40 PM

- Her personality
- Her lyrics
- Her love for her fans
- Her TA entries (especially the one about the A WORLD IS ONE book)
- Her music - I adore most of (miss)understood, I am..., A BALLADS, Love Songs, Rock 'n' Roll Circus, Secret & FIVE. So many songs from these albums have helped me through hard times and lots of them make good times better as well :D
- Her performances - Endless Sorrow @ CDL 05, Memorial address @ RnRC tour, count down @ RnRC tour, acoustic section @ CDL 05, acoustic section @ cdl 10-11, many TV performances but some off the top of my head are NEVER EVER TV live from 2007, Memorial address TV live from 2007, all the JEWEL lives, most of the You were... lives, A song for XX lives, Love Song lives.
- Her stunning beauty lol. So many memories of when new pictures come out and I'm just gasping at how gorgeous she is.

FoObY 31st August 2011 11:52 PM

The biggest would have to be Memorial address. Although there are a mix of styles, all the tracks work so well together, and the flow is flawless. The PVs are some of my favorites from her filmography. This album literally swayed me to buy a region-free DVD player just so I can watch them.

Overall, there's something to love from everything she's done. Some of her releases took time to warm up to, but eventually I always end up liking them (ex: FIVE).

pepper 1st September 2011 01:04 AM

Albums:
  • MY STORY - it was my first "full realese on live" cause I started to listen to Ayu right after full Memorial address. First waiting, and back then was harder to get Ayu's music, so I was downloading sum files in .ogg format. So many excitement!
  • (miss)understood - Every single made SO many emotions to me, previews of B&D was awful and then I LOVED it totally. Then album leaks... I remember this day like it was yesterday. Christmas tree, "rainy day" and waiting for Christmas.
  • Love songs - after GUILTY that was "so-so", NEXT LEVEL was very below average, and Rock'n'Roll was kinda "something's missing" and 48-49-50 singles was "meh" to me, Love songs REALLY surprised me. "Love song" made me cry, "Like a doll" made me jumps on chair and then "November" caugh me nostalgic...

PV's
  • Ladies Night - mind****! I remember I was showing it to all friends to show them how awesome Ayu is.
  • Alterna
  • Game - i was freaking surprised that is so dark.
  • About you - PV itself it's not special but I was surprised that it was made (It's my favorite song on MS)
  • 1 LOVE
  • JEWEL - one of her prettiest PV ever made
  • SPARKLE!!!!!!!! I wasn't expecting Ayu that sexy.

The rest:
  • "kiss o'kill" on Secret. I was crying like a baby from fierceness.
  • "fairyland/Alterna" single. Alterna was the bomb for me.
  • "STEP you/Is this LOVE?" single
  • "GAME/INSPIRE" single - my first single I was waiting to leak, and then... OMGOMGOMG.
  • "Sparkle" and its PV. It blown my mind.
  • "BRILLANTE"
  • Dark hair in (m)u and Secret
  • Every time when she is back to short hair I'm melting.
  • Photoshots from LOVE&HOPE till now.

Benikari47 1st September 2011 01:08 AM

Okay. A list of my satisfactions when it comes to Ayu:

--Ayu herself. I love her personality. I love how hardworking she is, I love the lyrics she comes out with and how her music very rarely lets me down.

--Her live shows. She always puts an epic shows each and every year and it never gets boring to watch for me

--Her PV's. Even though most of them aren't anything special there's always a few out of them that are just unforgettable works of art.

--And lastly; Ayu's music has effected me in a way no other artist ever has. I can actually relate to her lyrics and feel the emotion of the songs she puts out. Her music has gotten me through some seriously tough times. She has opened my eyes (and ears) to all sorts of other music I wasn't into at all before I discovered her and for those reasons she will always be my favourite artist.

Recently, I'd say Love Songs, specifically crossroad.

Crossroad has this really warm feel to it, a certain richness. It's emotive without being dramatic or in-your-face. I love it when Ayu makes songs like that. A lot of her discography is like that, but I've not felt it so much on newer albums.

While there a few songs I'm so/so about on Love Songs, after disliking the past few albums, it was amazing to have songs like November, Love Song, Last Angel, Virgin Road, sending mail and like a doll.

Overall, pretty much everything that everyone else says, her energy, dedication, most of her lyrics and so on.

ayu99persen 2nd September 2011 06:28 AM

the creativity of her, seems never minus.

i am especially proud to be an ayu fan when she churned out Love songs just 8 months after RnRC. and Love song is really an album with quality.

Her constant releases of new projects be it concerts, mini albums, singles, performances is what kept me going on.

Beautiful, flawless song. Don't get why the fans don't like it.

I don't understand the hate for MOON either. I fell in love with it the moment I heard it.

My biggest Ayu satisfactions would be...

Her honesty, Her personality, how much she appreciates her fans, her lyrics.
I love how Ayu is not afraid to try new genres in her music, she doesn't just stick to sappy ballads/bubble gum pop or rock, she mixes it all up.

Albums - I am..., (miss)understood, Memorial address, GUILTY, NEXT LEVEL, Love songs

PVs - Don't look back/BRILLANTE/Marionette are the ones that stand out to me the most.

Ballads - Days FTW! It will always be my favorite ballad, no matter what. And it always makes me cry. :weep

ayu_ready? 2nd September 2011 09:14 PM

I was surprised nicely with Love songs release because I hate RnRC and thought Love songs gonna be worse because too much plin ballads like blossom-crossroad. but I liked the booklet pics, although her face angles were horrific there, some really unpretty. and the material too. a nice surprise.

kalikagai 2nd September 2011 11:15 PM

ayu herself, no doubt

her songs (whenever I like some or not), her power lyrics, her lives, her everything is ayu

definitely, I'm absolutely happy that I discovered Hamasaki Ayumi-san - her creations always resound in my heart

Mimichild 3rd September 2011 01:14 AM

OHH MY....I'm sastifised with so much she's done (mostly in the past but her new stuff grows on me) I don't know where to begin!

Well I love virtually everything she's done that's opposite of what I dislike of her (PV, fashion, style, persona, lyrics)

But I'm most sastified with is that SHE'S AYU! She's not trying to be or look like anybody else. The motto that speaks to me when I see her says "I'm me and I'm going to be me either take it, love it or get the hell out!" :D

Oh yeah, and I love when she performs sad songs (when she's just singing not acting), I can always feel the power of her lyrics then!

Although I do have another satisfaction to give in this thread; her performance of MOON on CDL 10-11 was absolutely amazing! If that doesn't convert any MOON haters then I don't know what will :P

^ MOON very grew for me. In the begining I was in "Its okay" state. So I don't understand the hate either ;D I kinda dislike PV for it (and for crossroad) because they are very pretty BUT BORING. They have meaningless symbols that don't fit the rest.

R_Hikki 3rd September 2011 04:41 PM

^ "MOON" took a while to grow on me as well but it was the orchestra version that helped make me love both versions.

Ayu's music is timeless and for that I'm satisfied.

rusuke 3rd September 2011 05:25 PM

- Her MUSIC of course.

- A Song for xx, LOVEppears, Duty, I am..., and RAINBOW.

- Her philosophical aspect. She's just admirable.

- Her "Fashion sense" during her earlier times.

- Her never-ending experimentation in all aspects of her career.

- Her FIGHT-FIGHT and never-give-up attitude. That's Ayu!

xLuna&1LOVE 3rd September 2011 06:47 PM

Ayu is a sweet-heart and knows how to touch us. Her english titles are helping me out; so I actually get an idea what it could be about. The biggest satisfaction is her CREA-period and the Love Songs. Oh, and her recently cutted off hair :)

Bubbly 3rd September 2011 06:52 PM

For me it's how kind she is with her fans, she seems to care about them alot and it makes me happy!
Also, for almost every mood there is a song and often her songs are able to cheer me up when I feel really bad. Also, she really made me appreciate ballads! I always used to find ballads in egenral boring, but she showed me that they don't have to be!

Oh.. there is so much.... can't tell everything.
So... first of all.. her Music.... (my favourits are Heaven, Love Song, Dearest, Jewel, Crossroad, Days, Hanabi)
The way, she acts with her fans.
Some really greate PV's (Favourites: Jewel, Don't look back, BRILLANTE, Days).
Her hairstyle in 2006 really was the best. (^.^)
and.. there are other things too.. but need to long to tell everything.

By the way... I also don't understand why much people don't like Moon. I totaly like that song.

CHE.R.RY 4th September 2011 09:02 AM

Oh there's a lot....

~ A Song for XX (song)
~ End of the World
~ Duty (song & album)
~ SURREAL PV (made me like the song)
~ The entire I am... album (so freakin awesome)
~ HANABI & Hanabi ~episode II~
~ Memorial address (song & album except for ANGEL'S SONG :no)
~ MY STORY (very honest & real)
~ (miss)understood (song & album, good job on remakes)
~ fated
~ Sparkle (omfg such a fierce & awesome song)
~ Rock'n'Roll Circus (very fun & creative album esp. Don't Look Back :heart)
~ Love songs (very heartwarming, yet still creative)
~ Love song (omg I'm still addicted to this song after a long time)
~ Vocal improvement over the years (huge plus, esp. here lately...each album is getting a little better in terms of vocals I think :yes)
~ Tours (I love them all...they're all so fun & well-done.)
~ Getting married (this one is not that important, but I was just so excited for Ayu when she finally found someone...it's no fun being alone & I think it was good for her over all. She works so hard & it's nice to have someone to lean on :yes.)

I have many Ayu satisfactions...Ayu never completely disappoints me, which is basically why she is my favorite artist.

Too tired to go into detail like the disappointments thread so I'll bulletpoint this one. :laugh

Love Songs (album)- The covers, the packaging, the previews, the full songs, the time of year, the excitement, everything was so perfect. This is what I wanted the RnRC experience to be like.

Memorial Address (album)- The first album I've heard by her and still my favorite. Even songs I initially didn't care for like forgiveness and Greatful Days, I eventually grew to love. It's just the most flawless thing I have ever heard.

Green PV- I know this one gets it's fair share of hate but it's personally one of my favorite music videos ever. I just find it so raw, classy, and beautiful.

Mirrorcle World- This release pretty much cemented my fandom. I was obsessed with the song, thought the covers were gorgeous and was lukewarm about the PV at first but after a few plays, loved it as well.

POWDER SNOW (PCDL performance)- I have no words to properly describe how I felt when I saw it for the first time. :heart

Beautiful, flawless song. Don't get why the fans don't like it.

THIS SO FREAKING MUCH

After 3 albums of boring, absolute droll and forgettable ballads, it felt so good to FINALLY hear an amazing Ayu ballad again. Words could not describe the happiness and satisfaction I felt when I first heard the lq quality full. Hearing it on the album just made me fall in love with it so much more. One of her best songs to date for sure.

Oh and THIS TOTALLY as well. I used to hate pop ballads because (with the exception of artists like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston) they all sounded so same-ish and boring and the same subjects of love and heartbreak ugh. Both Ayu and Utada showed me how beautiful, intricate, and groundbreaking ballads could be when given the right amount of care and attention.

oh, I see I am not the only one who adores her brown hair!!! Mmmm... I want her brown hair, BOUNCEBACK and HAL back. :love all these really made me happy during Ayu's carreer.

There are way too many to list for me in this category lol, but I guess I'll do the ones I'm most satisfied about....:

Rock 'n' Roll Circus: THIS ALBUM makes my life. Microphone, Don't look back, Sexy little things, Lady Dynamite were so awesome ughh....IMO, this completely made up for NEXT LEVEL. I would've completely loved this album...if only You Were... didn't exist and The Introduction was more like her last few intro songs. Still, I was very satisfied with how RnRC turned out in the end.

Not Yet, Mirror, Bridge to the Sky: The best intro songs I've ever heard in my life. I'm glad Mirror turned into Mirrorcle World. Bridge to the Sky really got me the most though.

Sparkle: When I heard the CM, I was pretty iffy about it. RULE disappointed me alot...but then when the leak for Sparkle came out, my mind was literally blown. Quite literally.

ayu-mi-x 7: All of the remixes were great. Totally enjoyed the ayu-ro mix and the acoustic orchestra albums the most.

Memorial Address: I wasn't into ayu when this came out, but when I did some digging into her discography, i instantly fell in love with this album. Greatful Days happens to be my #1 favorite Ayu song (coupled with Sparkle, of course)

crossroad (Orchestra version): I hadn't been so much into crossroad...until this version came out. This made me love the original version too. IMO, it's the best song out of the whole L single.

FIVE (covers): One word: Sexy. Totally did not expect it to be so fierce and so...god-like. Major props to Leslie Kee.

Jason 6th September 2011 07:04 PM

You know what? FIVE has really grown on me as an addictive piece of work O.O

*listens to it for the umpteenth time*

miki_beland 6th September 2011 07:07 PM

Love Songs...
It was the first time that I loved all the songs from the beggining, I really enjoyed it when I listened it for the first time ^^

JackieRos 6th September 2011 07:21 PM

Her coming to NY, RAINBOW, Love ~refrain~, her covers from NEXT LEVEL to the beginning of her career.

jbrat2219 6th September 2011 11:55 PM

^ Yes!!! Someone else who likes the NEXT LEVEL covers ^0^/

TITANIC 7th September 2011 04:03 AM

CREA, I am... covers shot by Leslie, M, Mirrorcle World, play twitter, everything she release before GUILTY are epic and included NEXT LEVEL, BRILLANTE, Mirrorcle World.
personality and she able to maintain her popularity, look at Mai Kuraki, MISIA, Koda Kumi, Suzuki Ami, all of them have gone downhill
