What happened to Yuna Ito?

I guess I lost touch, but I checked and like nothing has come out from Yuna since that singles collection around last Christmas. What happened to her? I want new music from her SO badly. She's a beautiful singer.

NintendoHTF1242 16th October 2011 04:45 AM

Her company probably gave up on her. With her flop chart placements and sales.

ILoveGeniuses 16th October 2011 05:09 AM

I really thought she was doing half decent.... :(

I LOVE HER COMPLETELY. :'(

KarenPang 16th October 2011 05:16 AM

yeah it wouldn't surprise me if Sony BMG released her after she released LOVE ~Singles Best 2005-2010~ last year , especially since she hasn't release anything after that

poor thing , it's not as though she's not talented to begin with but I guess her peak period in Japan went down after the 2 NANA movies so :O

ILoveGeniuses 16th October 2011 05:19 AM

It's so sad when i see talented people lose out and people who aren't talented get to go on doing like everything....

happiholic★ 16th October 2011 05:30 AM

I'm very surprised to hear this. I thought she was popular...

ILoveGeniuses 16th October 2011 05:31 AM

^same.

this too.

:/ I thought she was one of the pop icons in Japan.

Yoake 16th October 2011 11:14 AM

I think she was popular with NANA movie but after people didn't look after her music.
If her contract with Sony is finished I wonder why she didn't try to find another music label. Maybe, she just want to stop singing for a while.

Or maybe she found the perfect love & ran away with him XD

YUKARI 16th October 2011 11:31 AM

that's really strange!

she was so promising and talented, I can't believe she's been inactive for one year already.

Utena 16th October 2011 11:35 AM

we just know she renewed her VISA for one more year but her staff blog and hers are not being updated anymore so it's hard to find anything... I hope she'll be back with universal, she could do some r&b ish songs

You did? Wow.

Yeah, she was never incredibly popular and she only got less popular with time. To be honest, she only had a few good/interesting songs and that was about it. She may be talented, but having a boring ass discography isn't going to get you sales.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 16th October 2011 11:52 AM

but didn't she sing with Celine Dion or something? And also had a cover of aerosmith?I though she was one of the big ones xD

Anyway, I hope she's just preparing some new material, re-inventing herself or something!

Utena 16th October 2011 12:51 PM

She was very popular during her debut days, then she kind of lost her momentum..

NintendoHTF1242 16th October 2011 03:49 PM

ENDLESS STORY was her peak (which is so sad because that was her debut lol). But after that she fell downhill. Which is sad because I think that DREAM is a pretty good album.

But I agree with bondingo. She has a LOT of really boring songs. I still haven't even listened to WISH in full because I can't get past the boring first track. And I don't even want to touch HEART.

They didn't collaborate because Yuna was ~big in Japan~, they collaborated because Celine really liked Yuna's cover of My Heart Will Go On from the Celine Dion tribute album.

ILoveGeniuses 16th October 2011 03:50 PM

^i love all her albums, but i love ballad music more than a lot of other people do i guess.

terra 16th October 2011 05:07 PM

^^ LOL I touched both HEART and WISH
They had good songs but mostly songs that not as worth remembering as much.
When I went to DREAM it changes my opinion, for me it was a real downhill :/

I love her voice and her signature ballads are amazing, sadly her upbeat songs were not recognize as much :(

Beauty4123 16th October 2011 06:03 PM

i really miss yuna as well! :( i've been a fan of hers for so long (since 2006) so for her to just be inactive like this, is really upsetting. i love her music! "WISH" will always be her best album for me (and one of my favorite jpop albums in general).

hopefully sony didn't drop her, but if they did, i hope she'll be back on another label. like what Utena said, i think UNIVERSAL would be a good choice for a new label. :yes

KarenPang 17th October 2011 02:17 AM

nah , somehow or another , I don't think Universal will promote/market Yuna well *cough Aoyama Thelma cough*

Sony BMG did everything they can to push Yuna's name after her NANA peak period died down but to no avail . In general , it's quite tough for a non Japanese to make it in Japan at the end of the day , especially if you're a soloist

As long as you have a little bit of Japanese blood (like Jero) , you will feel somewhat more ... accepted in the general Japanese public

NintendoHTF1242 17th October 2011 02:28 AM

^ She's half-Japanese and half-Korean...

koumori 17th October 2011 02:29 AM

^ lol

I liked her, but like others have said she just didn't release/record a lot of varied songs...she's obviously strong at ballads, but she didn't show her strengths in much else. It's a shame. I hope she pops up again one day.

Eeh~ On her official site, she hasn't updated her blog since May. :weep

emi♡ 17th October 2011 05:25 AM

yeah, she really only had her voice going for her, and well, other big voices have definitely been more popular, like Ayaka, or now, Juju.

PoetGirl 17th October 2011 10:14 PM

I was disappointed during her career to be quite honest, when she just started she was so promising - beautiful voice and beautiful face. But 3 albums she had I can only name a few good songs. Her albums were bad imo. No wonder she flopped, she didnt have catchy songs, nor some image to identify with, she was like... nor this nor that if you know what I mean. I feel so sorry for her since I still go back and listen to those few tracks I like because of her pretty voice... ahh...

Chibi-Chan 18th October 2011 12:19 AM

^yeah, I feel the same way.

Huaka 19th October 2011 04:36 AM

If she's dropped from her label, I don't mind because she'd definitely be scooped up by one of our record labels here and would probably have some moderate amount of success. And then I can enjoy her songs/performances at home.

terra 19th October 2011 04:52 PM

I remember my friend in Japan went to one event when she's present to sing and got her to sign his poster; the tickets were only 1500 Yen if I'm not mistaken :( it's kinda too cheap for a singer like her

Minttulatte 19th October 2011 05:02 PM

I remember when I was listening her songs on youtube few years ago. I really enjoyed her music (That Nana song, Endless something was awesome) and I even downloaded one of her singles (Trust you) back in 2009. Too bad I never found any of her albums though. :( But I can say that she has a very beautiful voice. It's so bad if she was dropped from her label. :<

Andrenekoi 19th October 2011 05:04 PM

Woah, Yuna Ito one of the bigs? xD

She never sold amazingly well... actually, she probably is more famous for her Nana role than singing career...

Anyway... Jpop is a cruel market to women, it's expected that after u release 3 studio albums (one every year), u release a Best and after that u retire or keep a low profile career...

Chiharo 20th October 2011 03:13 PM

I could agree that HEART was terrible and that WISH was just all right, but DREAM was freaking amazing. I'm so sad that she probably won't release more music after such a step up.

PinkShinigami 10th January 2012 01:38 PM

Nooooo? how could they give up on her, she has the most amazing voice :(
I didn't listen much to her... but just loved her voice

Bigtop 10th January 2012 10:17 PM

That feeling... I don't know if Sayuri Sugawara could have a similar result to this (Yuna Ito)...

ilovekodaa 11th January 2012 03:35 AM

I MISS HER T_T

Seiferz 12th January 2012 03:14 AM

^ Same

terra 21st April 2012 08:30 PM

Finally! A news of her whereabouts, I'll post it here in case someone miss it

Quote:

This is the first Yuna Ito post in over a year~!

She performed at Singapore Men's Fasion Week and gave an interview to the Strait Times, revealing she took a hiatus since 2010 because her career was moving too fast and in that time took acting lessons as well as dance to rediscover herself. She also revealed she is working a new album, that will mostly be ballads her strong suit and is open to singing Korean songs in the future since she is completely fluent. Her fans hotly anticipate her return to music after her sudden hiatus.

I went to World Market the other day and Mahaloha came on over the loud speakers :3

TITANIC 24th April 2012 02:40 PM

wow this thread reminds back to her. I completely forgot if she ever exist. now It's time to play Ima Demo Zutto, IMO thats her best song and the best ballad ever. every time I hear this song I shed my tear. for her album like most of all said boring. I only like the single tracks like Mahaloha, Precious, Miss You, ima demo aitaiyo and zutto, GATE, hmm I can't think any other good songs.

Choyan 25th April 2012 08:42 AM

She became popular because of Nana and her debut song wasn't entirely original either...hm.

NintendoHTF1242 27th April 2012 07:39 AM

It was just NANA that gave her that early peak. But after that nobody cared lol
