On November 2nd, the final audition for JKT48, the first sister group of AKB48 based overseas, in Jakarta, Indonesia, was held at a hotel in Jakarta. At the audition, the 28 first generation members for this new group have been selected.

Akimoto Yasushi, the judge and the general producer, commented at the press conference, “Though there are many differences in cultures, languages, customs, and national characters (in comparison to Japan), I felt the certainty of success at the audition today.” He continued, “Japan is having a hard time because of the Tohoku earthquake, but I believe JKT48 can be the bridge between the two countries.”

JKT48 will make their debut within the year, and another overseas sister group TPE48 which is based in Taipei, Taiwan, is scheduled to debut next summer. According to Akimoto, he is also planning to create more sister groups based out of Singapore and Thailand as well.

There were about 1,200 applicants/inquiries for the audition, and they reduced them to 50 girls after the selection and the interview. The judging for dance and singing, as well as the interview were all held at the final audition.

Actually a lot of them look quite cute. And they haven't had their makeovers yet xD

They surely haven't had makeovers because they look like every girls in Jakarta that I see everyday, so don't expect them to look like AKB48 :laugh
tbh I'm kinda curious how a xxx48 group from my country will be and how the people here will see them..

I find some of the girls are cute though.
moreover they are all still very young, of coz no one gonna look great at the moment.

...yeah... and this was in September, they look even better than that now. Just give these JKT girls a couple of months, the "idol" magic will take it's course. :laugh

Interesting how you chose a pic of Ayu, when there are just as many examples within AKB, lol. For example, Itano Tomomi.

They were just selected, but they'll almost all be unrecognizable as time goes by.

Yep lol @ everyone calling them ugly when most AKB members looked (and some of them STILL) just as average/"ugly" as these girls. I thought the concept of xxx48 groups was to have your everyday girl-next-door types perform on stage ? Of course they're not gonna pick beauty queens :shrug
And calling them ugly because they're Indonesian and not Japanese is just plain offensive :eviltongu

I find them cute personally, looking forward to see what their plans are in the future ~

Part of the unattractiveness to me is that none of them looks a day older than 10, but that might be because I can't see any sign of a pair of boobs on any of them. :think

They're all pretty young, hopefully the music industry is kind to them.

I'll never be able to learn all their names, so I probably won't bother to try lol I'll listen to their first song though :)

I just think the idea's stupid. Stick to AKB and stop with all these other groups. The ones within Japan that aren't AKB are bad enough (SDN not included).

Isn't the basic concept of idol groups is to make over the ~average~ girls into well-known-above-average girls?

Try to search any popular idol groups members during the audition, most of them aren't looks cute or beautiful from the beginning.

So I think those girls are ok.

they already finished recording with DELAPAN STUDIO. And they'll sing both Japanese and Indonesian. They're scheduled to debut this mid December.

Afterall, for an Indonesian girl group, they really make the process smoothly like Japan. Introduction > teaser > CM > debut. All I saw in twitter, JKT48 is had very good response in Indonesia '__'a

Well it's the first international sister group.
There is already 4 national sister groups. (SKE, SDN, NMB, HKT)
Supposedly Taiwan48 was supposed to start too.

I think they did fantastic. Any stage would be crowded for them, they're a huge group of people to be performing in one place like that.

They were super nervous though, and look out of place during interview. I wonder why they don't let the Japanese member in thir team to speak up during the interview, would be better then letting the poor girl sounds awkward on stage.

Hebirote is getting popular among my schoolmates (umm yes I live in Jakarta so this kinda matters lol), though some of them still didn't get the idea and take them as AKB rip-off -_-
