Yamashita Tomohisa to star in drama series “Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata”
Former NEWS member Yamashita Tomohisa (26) will star in a TBS drama series this winter. This is his first work since he and Nishikido Ryo (27) left the group last month. The drama, titled “Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata ~Ending Planner~,” has Yamashita playing the head of a funeral service shop that deals with bodies brought in by the police, including suicide and murder victims. He reluctantly inherited the shop after his father passed away, but as he learns about the lives of the various deceased people that are brought to him, he begins to mature. Another highlight of the story is his romance with a rookie female detective, though the actress for the part has not yet been announced. Screenwriter Watanabe Chiho (“Namae wo Nakushita Megami”) is in charge of the script. Shooting is scheduled to begin in early December. Tomohisa Yamashita comments on his upcoming drama
Johnny’s talent Tomohisa Yamashita will star in a TBS TV company drama for the first time in six years, reports the drama’s website. In “最高の人生の終わり方〜エンディングプランナー〜 (Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata ~Ending Planner~)”, Yamashita plays the reluctant owner of a funeral parlor, a family business which he inherits after his father passes away. The local police use the shop to bring in bodies involved in their cases, including murder and suicide. Along with his family, and a newcomer lady detective, the characters face new stories about reality with every body that comes through the shop. Here’s what Yamashita had to say: Q: Tell us how you feel about this drama series, which will be a new start for you. Yamashita: I don’t want to over-think it too much, I want to heighten my morale on set like I always do, and make a good product together with the cast and production staff. It’s my first drama series in a while so I’m looking forward to it a lot. Q: What was your first impression when you heard the drama would be set in a funeral parlor? Is there anything you’re thinking about doing in preparation for your role as lead character Masato Ihara? Yamashita: When I heard about the funeral parlor, I thought it would be gloomy, but I hope it’ll become a drama where people can see what ties families together, the how Masato grows in a positive way. In terms of getting ready, I want to read the script over and over again, and just get as much information as I can to create an image of him. Q: This is your first drama with TBS in six years, is there anything you’re looking forward to at the shoots? Yamashita: I always look forward to how things never go as planned, in a good way though, and actually discussing things with the staff as we make the drama. NEWS member Kato Shigeaki to debut as a novelist
It’s been announced that NEWS member Kato Shigeaki (24) will make his debut as a novelist, and will release a youth novel titled “Pink to Gray” (Kadokawa Shoten) on January 28th. He also announced that his name would be changed to “Kato Shigeaki” (加藤成亮 to 加藤シゲアキ will be converted from Kanji to Katakana). This will be the first time for any talento from Johnny & Associates, Inc. to publish a novel. Kato also stated during an interview, “I will continue writing after this, and someday, I would like to win the Naoki Prize (Japanese literary award).“, and revealed that he is planning to pursue both careers as a talento and as a novelist simultaneously. His debut novel “Pink to Gray” is a story about two best friends who enter into the entertainment industry, and one becomes a star, while the other is nothing more than an extra. Kato appealed confidently, “I guarantee that it will have a shocking impact on whoever reads it.” Although he didn’t major in literature and studied law, reportedly, he had always loved to write, and wanted to write a novel ever since he was 20 years old. Kato also said about his name change, “To turn over a new leaf. I put the wish to make a fresh start.” Back in October, two of the members, Yamashita Tomohisa and Nishikido Ryo left the group. Kato revealed how he felt when the all six members had a talk in June, “I was shocked to hear about their withdrawal. There was a possibility for the group to disband, but I’m glad we could maintain NEWS even with the four members. Yamashita Tomohisa opens up about withdrawing from NEWS
Actor/singer Yamashita Tomohisa (26) held a press conference on December 7th to commemorate the first day of shooting for his upcoming drama, “Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata~Ending Planner~“. During the event, he opened up about his withdrawal from NEWS for the first time. Yamashita stunned the J-Pop industry back in October when he announced that he would be departing from the group along with fellow member Nishikido Ryo. The pop star revealed that although he did many solo activities while he was in the group, he started to think about going alone seriously during his solo Asia tour. “There were many things going on inside of me, and it made me think deeply as a 25 year old man,” he began. He continued, “There was a difference between NEWS’ colour and my colour, and it was also difficult to juggle both the group and my personal activities, timewise. Life is just one time, so I wanted to tackle this challenge in going solo. You can’t do things all your way if you stay in a group, because it could cause trouble for other members; but if you are alone, you have to take all the responsibilities on your own, so you can try different things without worrying.” Reportedly, he first discussed his withdrawal plans with NEWS back in June. “They told me ‘Let’s try each other’s best as good rivals’ in the end, and those word pushed my back.” In J-Pop, Akanishi Jin established a major precedent when he withdrew from KAT-TUN back in July 2010, however, Yamashita decided not to ask his friend for advice. “I did not ask him for advice since I usually don’t talk to Akanishi about work,” he said. So, what has Yamashita been up to since leaving NEWS? “I’ve started reading many books. I think I need to learn more things. Though I had depended on the members until now, all responsibilities fall on me from now on,” he said. As for his future plans, Yamashita stated, “I would like to try many different [acting] roles even if it’s not the lead role, and of course I will continue my activities as a singer. I also want to cherish my time to communicate with fans at live concert after next year.” Yamashita will start his full solo activities as an actor and as a singer starting next year. Yamapi's new show [Route 66 ~ lone man's America]
Yamashita Tomohisa (26) will be travelling alone on America's famous route 66 as part of the NTV program [Yamashita Tomohisa Route 66~ Lone man's America] (Monday night 1:29 am, starts on January 2nd, 1:59 am). It is his first regular program outside of dramas. He will be driving an American car made in the same year as he was born, 1985, travelling from Chicago to Santa Monica, a total of 3755 km. Yamashita will be embarking on an 'self searching' American travel. The show will last 3 months, and document his travels very closely. The stage for this travel is America's first cross country road, a symbolism of American culture, US Route 66, or colloquially known as just Route 66. Yamashita will be driving an '85 Chevy C20, going from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California. Shooting took place from November 3rd to 18th. Getting to experience the highly anticipated cowboy lifestyle, communicating with Native Americans, and meeting with 'Uncle Angel' who is vying for the revival of Route 66, he encountered many things. 'Seeing the magnificient landscape and experiencing nature, discussing life's philosophies with many people, in all it was a great opportunity to find myself again' said Yamashita. Route 66 which opened in 1926 and abandoned since 1985, gives Yamashita a sense of fate, being born in that same year. Yamashita withdrew from NEWS in October. As he restarts his career as a solo artist, with this sense of reset, he planned his aspired American travels despite being in the country many times before. Tegomass promises to resume activities with NEWS
On December 18th, Tegomass (comprised of NEWS members Tegoshi Yuya and Masuda Takahisa) performed at the Yokohama Arena leg of their nationwide tour. During the concert, Tegoshi promised to resume their activities as NEWS members, saying, “As NEWS, we want to steadily release new material.” Since Yamashita Tomohisa focused on his solo career and Nishikido Ryo was busy with his own activities in Kanjani8, NEWS wasn’t able to do much this year. Back in October, Tegoshi commented, “Including what’s around us, all kinds of things happened,” referring to the turmoil from both the Tohoku disaster and the departure of Yamashita and Nishikido. Fuji TV posted an official announcement today confirming Koyama as a member of the cast of the Winter Monday night 'Getsu 9' drama 'Lucky Seven.'
This detective drama stars Arashi's Matsumoto Jun as Takita Shuntaro, one of a team of seven detectives and a novice detective who gets completely absorbed in his job. The PV preview for Ai Texas looks really cheap :x kinda reminded me of ayumi's Progress to a certain extent cos of the dessert green background scenes xD

Yamapi talks about leaving NEWS
Johnny’s talent Tomohisa Yamashita talked to his fans about leaving NEWS, reports Infoseek. While shooting a TV appearance on music show “HEY! HEY! HEY!” on February 19, Yamashita shared his thoughts with the fans in the studio. “It’s my first time after leaving NEWS so I am nervous, but I also really feel that safety the members gave me when they were with me.” It has been reported Yamashita continued to explain the situation to his fans. “I’m sorry. I know there might be fans who I’ve hurt but we didn’t separate as the result of a fight. We decided to grow in our own way so please don’t cry.” Finally, the Johnny’s star said he was optimistic about the future of both parties. “I want to work towards a brighter and fun future with all of you, and those guys, and to do that I want to put everything I have into polishing up my skills, and continue to put smiles on your faces. I hope that you’ll come with me.” It has been reported a number of fans in the crowd started crying. After the shoot, Yamashita came down and shook hands with every fan as they left. Some fans commented that: “I’ll always be his fan.” “I will support him.” However, Cyzowoman reports a lot of fans were still unsatisfied. Some comments included: “Didn’t he leave them? Get your act together. You wanted to do something right. Do you know how much you hurt the members and the fans? I wish he wouldn’t say stuff like this now.” “Honestly, why now?? Just when things had settled down and NEWS were about to make a new start, why did he want to bring the topic back up?” “Cruel! Wearing a blue PUMA jersey and jeans, Yamashita commented, “I’ve worn PUMA since long ago. It’s a nice surprise to be chosen as the image character for a world-known brand.” During the photo shoot, Yamashita got to wear PUMA’s latest model of ultra-lightweight shoes. When asked about his impressions, he responded, “I think it’ll give me good performance during dance lessons and gym work-outs.” For the campaign visual, Yamashita shows off his body dressed as 7 different characters, such as a ‘captain’ and ‘referee’. He revealed his secret for maintaining his physique with, “I try not to build up stress, eat when I want to, run at the gym once a week, and do weight training. Keiichiro Koyama says meeting earthquake victims made him grateful he was in Johnny’s
The first time NEWS member Keiichiro Koyama stepped foot into the disaster zone following the Tohoku earthquake was on March 27. Although the Johnny’s talent already has a busy schedule, he pushed for the opportunity, saying he wanted to go there and tell people what it is really like. As a news reporter for “news every.”, Koyama has been to the disaster zone more than 20 times in the past year. Magazine Josei Seven‘s March 22 issue reports on Koyama’s experience in the Tohoku region. “I’d only seen the images on TV, but when I got to the disaster zone, I could see that everything all around me had been damaged. When I thought about the people who lived their lives here, I got so scared my legs would shake and it was impossible to say anything while keeping a straight face. But I also knew that it was my job to describe what had happened. I knew that going there once or twice wouldn’t be enough, I needed to keep going.” Koyama also said he was nervous about interviewing survivors. “You have no idea what someone might find offensive so I really had to think my questions through. One time the person I was talking to started crying. I apologized, saying I was so sorry to make them relive the moment, but they said, ‘it’s alright, I’m sorting out my own life’. I do my best to take in everything word for word.” Lastly, the Johnny’s talent had said he thought it would not matter whether he was a pop star or not when he went into the disaster zone, but the survivors made him realise differently. “When I went in to interviews survivors at an evacuation centre, there were hundreds of people from children to grandmas and grandpas. New TV Show for "KoyaShige"
NEWS' Koyama Keiichiro and Kato Shigeaki, also known as "KoyaShige" will hosts NTV's newest show called "Mirai Theater". Hatori Shinichi will also join them as host. Mirai Theater or Future Theater is a documentary show where the hosts will go in-depth regarding lives of different people who tries to change the world without fear of failure or criticisms. The hosts will review past interviews or footage about the person's life. During the press conference last Mar 22nd, Hatori Shinichi talked that he hit it off well with his two new companions. He revealed that the first episode will be about the big change that happened with Koyama and Kato's group- NEWS. Koyama said that he felt comfortable talking about what happened with NEWS since Hatori knows how to create a relaxed atmosphere where guest can share their feelings. Kato also added that Hatori is good in dealing with gossips and scandals and hopes that he and Koyama can find something scandalous about Hatori's life. Lastly, Kato hopes that Mirai Theater will inspire people to be motivated and look positively in life. Yamapi’s secret event with fans
Only 100 fans got invitations to Tomohisa Yamashita’s secret event on White Day, March 14, and here are some details about what happened, reports Shukan Josei and fan blogs. Fans could go into the draw to win an invitation by buying Yamashita’s newest single ”愛、テキサス (Ai, Texas)”. It has been reported the lucky fans who won an invitation met in Tokyo, where staff wearing red “I TEXAS” T-shirts and cowboy hats welcomed them and directed them to some buses. “Inside the bus, Yamapi came onto the TV and said he would guide us around Tokyo to places that were special to him. We went past Warner Music and the Johnny’s agency buildings,” one fan said. It has been reported the bus stopped in front of a restaurant, which another fan said did not look expensive but the interior had an Western movie theme to it, which fitted the theme of the event. “There were about 10 people to each table. It wasn’t a big place but the stage was so close, and when Yamashita-kun came on stage, his choreographer also came up and taught everyone the dance moves to ‘Ai, Texas’,” one fan said. Fans also got to listen to Yamapi’s talking a lot. “He took time to explain to us about leaving NEWS. He said it wasn’t because they had a fight. He also said it wasn’t as serious as fans might think, and that it was more like a class change at school. He also talked a lot about his holiday in the US,” one fan said. Yamashita Tomohisa’s new single “LOVE CHASE” to be produced by Monkey Majik
Singer Yamashita Tomohisa’s new single “LOVE CHASE” has been selected as the ending song for Fuji TV’s anime ‘Toriko‘. The release date of “LOVE CHASE” has not been decided yet. This will be the singer’s first anime theme song as a solo artist. He commented, “I am really looking forward to listening to “LOVE CHASE” with Toriko’s animation.” This song was produced by four-member band MONKEY MAJIK. Yamashita and MONKEY MAJIK composed the song together. Yamashita showed his satisfaction stating, “As the title suggests, the song has a speedy rhythm. It has been created as a song that perfectly fits with Toriko’s story.” Maynard Plant(Vo&G) from MONKEY MAJIK stated, “The song has been completed as a cool match with Yamashita-san.
