It’s been revealed that Hamasaki Ayumi will be singing the theme song for the upcoming drama, “Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi“.

Set in Kamakura, the drama follows actors Koizumi Kyoko and Nakai Kiichi, who play out an adult love story. Hamasaki, who agreed to take part in the OST after reading the script, commented, “I wrote a song that will bring warm feelings to anyone who listens to it.”

Her song, “how beautiful you are“, is a medium-tempo ballad that describes the feeling of gratitude towards someone.

This is Hamasaki’s first time in two years and five months since she last sang a theme song for a drama. Her last OST contribution was “Sunrise ~LOVE is ALL” for the TV Asahi drama, “Dandy Daddy?“.

Producer Wakamatsu Hiroki commented, “She created a wonderful song that has both kindness and sadness interact within a mature atmosphere. It’s perfect for the drama’s image.”

I will be happy if people of all ages can sympathize with the song,” said Hamasaki.

“Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi” will air every Thursday night from 10:00 p.m., starting on January 12th. Hamasaki’s song is scheduled to be distributed in February.

It is being discussed in the New album 2012 thread, but I think significant news like this deserves a thread on its own.

Didz-19 21st December 2011 10:27 AM

Yeahhhhhh!!!!!! i'm so happy with the news~~

LONJJONG 21st December 2011 10:50 AM

Wow~ that's an unique song title!!!
I'm looking forward!!

Earth_maiden 21st December 2011 10:55 AM

great news!! That means we should hear the song in Jan then, and we might get the new album in Feb! *crosses fingers*

AyUmIXx 21st December 2011 11:13 AM

can't wait to listen to the new song!
too bad it's really an adult drama lols, i mean the casts are quite old.

letter 21st December 2011 11:25 AM

I hope it won't be another "blossom". This article reminded me of the song.

Bigtop 21st December 2011 11:28 AM

I'm looking forward to the new song...but the drama...eh?

Yoake 21st December 2011 11:29 AM

Just waiting for this.
thanks for sharing

truehappiness 21st December 2011 11:29 AM

Adding that Timothy Wellard composed this and Yuta Nakano arranged it. The song was produced last month in London.

YUKARI 21st December 2011 11:36 AM

this is great news, but I'm disappointed it's an adult love story. it could be at least like Namie's latest tie-in drama about 3 women in their late 20s, 30s... I don't even know now am I going to watch this ayu's drama ~.~

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 21st December 2011 01:16 PM

ah... good to hear ayu making adult contemporary ballad.. :D

Mai82Go 21st December 2011 01:36 PM

Wow, Fuji TV with Nakai Kiichi. An adult love story. So curious! Great tie-in for Ayu.

RayJason 21st December 2011 01:54 PM

EEXCITEDDD

AyuGAME 21st December 2011 03:11 PM

can't wait!

ayumisrael 21st December 2011 03:13 PM

YAY!! I'm so glad the song might have a chance with a broader audience (IF) the drama will have good ratings :)

TeamAyu2004 21st December 2011 03:35 PM

^ i was thinking the same think... from the article i couldn't gather if the two actors are popular or not??

Anyone know?

THis is great or Ayumi... and game OST lasst year and a drama this year... lets hope for a movie too! Heaven....

stivenoto 21st December 2011 04:32 PM

Too bad this is adult love story...

I guess not many young people will watch this drama, but another tie in will be better than nothing, right?

AyumiAi 21st December 2011 04:34 PM

dying of excitement!

Calico 21st December 2011 06:00 PM

Kyoko Koizumi is increidbly famous. She used to be a super popular idol in the 80s and is now a really popular actress (and has won a lot of awards, iirc). this is a great tie-up for Ayu, regardless of the targeted demographic.

and I'm excited for this drama! I love the premise and I love Kyoko, and with Ayu doing the theme I might give it a shot. (I prefer "mature" dramas way more than the cookie-cutter first love stuff they always otherwise show.)

ohsixthirty 21st December 2011 06:04 PM

i actually think its exciting that she is doing an "adult" drama. ayu's audience is aging too you know, and eventually (if not already) her listeners are not going to be as young as they once were. i think its good to broaden your scope. :yes

Mari-chan 21st December 2011 06:32 PM

That really sounds good for me. A Ballad... I really love her ballads.
And the titel sounds really nice.
Can't wait to listen to that song!

YUKARI 21st December 2011 06:39 PM

yeah, this clearly shows her audience. nothing we can do with it.

I hope the drama will have good ratings! Ganbatte! :D

I feel like this song will be a single. And she'll be promoting it on TV... awww will be great if she really does it and comes back on TV...

ohsixthirty 21st December 2011 06:44 PM

either way, with timmy composing this ballad, i'm really very confident that it will be amazing!!! i don't expect it to be anything like the medium-tempo ballads she's been doing.

AyumiAi 21st December 2011 07:18 PM

I know!!! If it's a timmy ballad i have NO idea what to expect of this midtempo song! X)

Mai82Go 21st December 2011 07:36 PM

I don't know why people assume stories for the older audience are bad for Ayu promotion wise. I'm an avid drama watcher and I can tell you that often the teen dramas are the worst of the bunch. It's a great honor to have a theme song for a drama that is for an older audience. Nakai Kiichi is a famous actor and I think this will probably help the sales a lot more than that failure of a drama that was Dandy Daddy. I love that this is a more serious plot and really look forward to the song.

*Petit* 21st December 2011 09:32 PM

I just hope it'll be a boost for album sales...

MissElin_ 21st December 2011 09:36 PM

Great news! I'm really really excited for this one! ^^

isthisLOL? 21st December 2011 09:41 PM

So that means either February single adn March or April album or February album!!! :D

asmAyumi1992 21st December 2011 09:43 PM

When will the drama broadcast?

ayuuk 21st December 2011 09:44 PM

Hope it's something cool and fresh! :P

ownsarai 21st December 2011 10:01 PM

I love the title. :) I cannot wait to hear the song.

Zemus 21st December 2011 10:05 PM

I concur with Calico and Mai82Go, great posts. Both of the main lead are famous and won lots of awards for their acting. In fact, I have been anticipating this drama from the moment it was announced, long before the news about Ayu singing the theme song. Her singing it is a positive add-on, definitely a brilliant tie-in and now anxious to hear how it will sound. I like Koizumi and Nakai in previous dramas I've watched.

Yeah, the majority of Ayu's male fans have aged, as you can see in the graph below. Women of age group 20~34 are still most dominant though.

oh wow, thanks for the pie chart! are the green titles for male listeners and pink for female? if so it seems that her largest bases are females age 20-34 and males age 50 to 64. is that right??? seems strange she would have such an older male following... o_0

either way it shows that her fan base definitely has a LOT of people in it who are a bit older, people who might actually appreciate an adult drama. so yeah, great move all around! :yes

AyumiAi 22nd December 2011 12:51 AM

Pretty young girls and ojisans really do make up a big chunk of ayu's core fanbase. Just go to any ayu live and you'll be plenty of both. I always find it a little heartwarming to see all those ojisans still young at heart, dressing in ayu's trademark pink and waving her penlights and uchiwas and singing ayu's songs. :D Either way, they're most probably the group that spends most on ayu. Just look at the whole load of ayu-themed cars/vans at every concert venue! :luv2

Zemus 28th December 2011 10:27 AM

Official website has two trailers up. Teaser spot and episode 1 preview:

http://www.fujitv.co.jp/nibanmeno_ko...ler/index.html

Sandy 28th December 2011 10:47 AM

I can't access the trailers but I have to say, I'm glad it is a adult love story, not a kids love story. There are waaa~~y too many of those running around the TV. And Ayu is not 20 anymore either. She might be more interested in a drama like this one. This is not bad news, it's great news.

Whooo ~~ soon I'll be in the majority pie-piece ;) Pink 20-34 ^^ I'll be 20 in April

I'm the typical Ayu fan with my age and female but the male side, it would be the age my father is. How cool to go to a concert with your dad. I want to see these older guys at a concert. It's so interesting to watch the audience at Ayu concerts. It seems there are also a lot of couples, but I guess the girls force their boyfriends to come. :)

So you wouldn't watch a show that featured adults because of.. what again? No hot people to fawn over? O_o A good show's a good show, regardless of the cast's age.

From what I heard of the song on CDL it's very nice :) Made me smile.

truehappiness 14th January 2012 12:05 AM

The drama ending version is rather nasal/old-Ayu vocally!

ayumisrael 14th January 2012 04:47 AM

There are many people out there who only watch drama if there is a Johnny's (or similar) in the cast, I guess.

That is .5% higher than the previous drama in the same time slot. Next episode is crucial for the average rating, if it won't drop much below 10% then all is good.
I am hoping it can keep 10~11% as average in the end. Both of the previous series failed to reach 10% average.

It's already safe to say it's more successful than Ayumi's previous tie-in drama, Dandy Daddy.

AyuGAME 15th January 2012 12:43 AM

^Dandy Daddy is bad..LOL

i hope Saigo kara will stay with two digits

AyuGAME 17th January 2012 03:19 AM

First Episode with english sub already available on D-addicts!

truehappiness 17th January 2012 05:08 AM

Dandy Daddy was cute, but it was definitely one of those filler-y dramas that no one really looks forward to all that much. It had some really nice cameos but that was about it.

ayumisrael 17th January 2012 08:25 AM

Dandy Daddy had an average rating but Sunrise could have double platinum for chaku uta and platinum for chaku uta full which was great!

I guess it also depends on how the audience likes to the song.

setsuka 17th January 2012 09:17 AM

drama rating don't always guarantee success, Kuu's Second Virgin tie-in got her a big hit even though the drama did mediocre, lol but it still got a movie adaptation 0_o

anyway this drama is really cute,Sakaguchi Kenji is hot and the song really fits

TeamAyu2004 25th January 2012 03:50 PM

I havent watched this yet... it is on my list however!
I cant believe the ratings went up! thats fantastic!

Edit:
We all know it's because of Ayumi's near perfect song too! lol.. :D

AyuGAME 27th January 2012 01:50 AM

I love saigo no...
It's funny and the story line is interesting, there is still a lot of mistery on it...
I hope it will be a huge success...and help Ayu with her new album...at least could make how beautiful you are get number one position on chaku-uta

YUKARI 28th January 2012 06:55 AM

imo, her voice sounds quite "old" like it's 40-years old obasan singing, but this fits the drama so well :laugh

ayumisrael 28th January 2012 07:04 AM

3rd episode's rating - 11.8%! =D

AyuGAME 28th January 2012 03:23 PM

It's wayyy better than Dandy Daddy's ratings! ^_^

TeamAyu2004 28th January 2012 03:34 PM

I wonder how this compares to the other dramas of the season!

04 For a woman, aging is such a heart wrenching thing 11.4

The ratings are so nice and stable, haha. I wonder if the finale will perform higher than the first episode or so? Dandy Daddy started off okay but a TON of people tuned out as the weeks went on.

TeamAyu2004 17th February 2012 02:26 AM

AyuGAME 17th February 2012 03:20 PM

how about 6th episode?

TeamAyu2004 17th February 2012 03:36 PM

according to d-atticts it got a 11.7... almost a single percent drop.

Zemus 24th February 2012 07:55 AM

There were many variety specials on air last week. That is the reason behind the episode 6 drop.

Episode 7 yesterday got 13.1%, which is a new-high for the series! :)

12.1→12.8→11.8→11.4→12.6→11.7→13.1→11.5→12.3→13.0→13.7%

Average: 12.4%

The drama is now over. All in all, great ratings. Especially for that time slot.
Out of the same time slot only BOSS series, Iryu 3 and Ninkyo Helper had higher average in the past three years.

Last episode might give Party Queen sales a boost.
