Oricon top 100 singles 2011

^ Gotta be the worst top 100 in the history of Japanese music. There is like no diversity in the music aside from a couple of artists. One of the reasons I got into Japanese music was that the charts were filled with diversity.

ok, I can understand Gackt doesn't sell that well nowadays but why '4Times' isn't there?

Yesterday, I've been trying to come up with 10 best songs of 2011 and it was pretty hard, even with YFC's 'All my love' that comes out TODAY and songs from FIVE I hardly chose 10 songs.

Considering that single only counted for 1 week on the charts before the list was made, the fact that it entered at all in the list is great.

You know, I'm a Gackt fan AND I live in Japan I didn't even know he had a new single coming out till I saw it in stores today! I have heard that god awful Fairies song a bajillion times all over the place and it just keeps getting worse, but an actual good song these days you have to actually really search for over here recently.
Anyways, I listened to All My Love in the store and was blown away. That is the best song he has released in years! And of course that means it has to be released with like 0 promotion so that one of the few great songs released this year gets no notice whatsoever.

Personally, I'm one of those casual fans who's only in it for the super catchy fun songs (I know it's weird XD), but come on you know people don't buy their singles for the quality of the music :lech

That was fun to watch though, sadly not many Jpop songs really made an impression on me this year. Perfume's new album was easily my favorite.

I hope they include digital sales..

Horrible, horrible year...and an especially horrible year for solo artists. All the solo artists I spotted in the top50 sang enka or extremely generic crap. Enka will always have a place in the charts though I'm surprised to see some so high, definitely deserved it more than all the AKB48 songs...
I'm happy to see Nana Mizuki made it in there even in this hard year, I was happy to see Namie and YUI even though those weren't very good singles imo and I'm happy to see L'arc~en~ciel, that's it.

the sales from spots 200 to about 75-25 probably reflect the tastes of the general public more than the top 25 and onwards (with a few exceptions). So many of the songs in the top 100 aren't really selling music when they sell copies of discs as some fans buy many just to get a prize or for some other reason unrelated to the content. ^ Yes, this is a big factor. These days a lot of people just simply don't buy music anymore. The few that do are usually idol fans. I actually have nothing against idol music, I LIKE Idol music and have probably been to Hello Project concerts as much as I have Ayumi. My problem with this years top 100 is the total and utter lack of variety; almost every song sounds the same and is very generic. Very few of these songs are going to be remembered even a year from now.

Yes, don't forget about the earthquake...it seems this year it's not very diverse. And I have a feeling this could last a while here, until someone is able to "break the code" (stepping up to the plate, a very good soloist who are not related to AKB, Johnny's or other idols and end up among the top ten)...

Okay it's official. What seems in the last 2-3 years is popular in Japan is NOT what I enjoy. A few years back (mainly the 00's) I was enjoying so much that was hugely popular.

Instead of wasting 17 minutes and 20 seconds of your lives watching that video I'll break it down:

60 AKB48 songs
20 boybands who all sound the same
10 Gener-ock
10 decent tracks (mostly around 100-80 in the chart)

Hardly any of these groups have any diversity in them, it's the same old, same old. And most of them are so cheesy and pay no attention to making a quality track with a beautiful composition (which is what I think Jpop is missing nowadays)

I don't even know what to say about how disappointed I am.

I mean, I have a lot to say about a certain something but I'd just start a bunch of fights.

^ I'll say it then. :) Idol music in and of itself isn't bad. There is such a thing as good Idol music. For example, all of Morning Musume's big hits were actually musically diverse, even experimental sounding pop music. But most importantly, the compositions and hooks were memorable. That's why everyone in Japan still knows those songs to this day. The problem isn't idol music, it's bad idol music. At least 80% of what is on this list will be forgotten by next year.

Don't know if that's what you wanted to say or not, haha.

Could I say that kind of top is frightening? Especially the top 3.
God, they're a lot of others artists that are 100xbetter than thoses boys & girls bands.

I am a huge Arashi fan as well, but even I'll admit that most of their recent singles have been bland, bland, bland. 30/100 are AKB related.
21/100 are JE related.
14/10 are hallyu related.

and 35 are non-idols, anyway Oricon 100 isn't best reflection of what is popular, Miliyah, Kana, JUJU,Kuu are way more consumed musically then 2/3 of these people
why idols sell so much is a whole other discussion so don't be too pressed

For a list that is of 100 songs from a single year, that is an absolutely HORRID ratio.

A lot of my music is from less known artists, indies and J-rock/pop-rock/whatever rock related. Makes me sad my favorite artists are on the bottom or not even on the list... So many idols... But I expected that.

All I see is Namie, alone and outnumbered by all the boy/girl groups. I'm scared D:

The only one I was happy to see was Namie..

Seriously, these PUT3LETTERS48 groups, Korean boybands are all gettin' on my nervers. Their music sounds all the same cra**y thing, and yet, they still sell like water. I'm just disgusted at how the music has become so bland and meaningless.

God, and I still complain Ayu's music is nothing compared to her old works, but still better than all this s**t. -_-

This year in music sucked. YUI's voice was awful in those singles btw, and Namie sounds really different...

It's only the unpopular artists that I seem to really enjoy this year -_- MAA, MiChi, etc.

AKB48 is way better than people says, their lyrics are not typical for an idol group (specially on non-single tracks) and they have worked so hard to be there. I LOLed so hard at those enka cheap videos

It was an okay year.. I think I liked a little under half the songs..
I never realized that AKB48 was ALL over the place or the fact that so many other acts were part of it.. I think that is a bit... overkill..

And the number 8 song.. AH! i died.. so cute!

wow i havent actually realised how much japanese music has "changed" in the last few years :( kinda makes me embarrassed to be a fan now.... i always liked jpop because even 2 years ago you could look at the top 10 singles for a week and see 10 different types of song but now if its not AKB48 then its Korean :( i like kpop dont get me wrong but when 60% of the years top songs come from the same area something seems kinda worrying...

^I think rock music is getting over-rated these day, particularly Japanese rock. People think they are "punk" and "original" and "better than pop clones". My opinion, of course.

Honestly, I have no hate for AKB48. I was gonna get into them when one of my favorite singers, Miray, joined SDN48, but they have disbanded or something.
