New album 'Party Queen' out 03/21 information thread [VI]
I am posting all relevant information in here! Hopefully it helps. If anything needs to be fixed or added, please post it here and I will add it ASAP!
**Originally the title of the album was reported as "Party queen" by Kome, but Ayu corrected Kome and said it was "Party Queen". It looks like he sent out the notice before Ayu made the correction. ****COUNTDOWN LIVE 2011-2012 A ~HOTEL Love songs~ is now only one DVD on the album, instead of a CD+3DVD, it is now a CD+2DVD Quote:

It's kind of weird that Ryan took these photos but Leslie is credited for them. I don't think I like Ryan's style that much.

Leslie could have been busy, yes, and they all are 3 friends judging by their twitter conversations, but... it was too risky to do, typical of Ayu. but the outcome is... :( |
It's funny how I totally hate those animal patterns, but she's got them on Duty, MY STORY and GUILTY too! While I found those covers fine, these PQ are... :laugh

So, Ayu says that these covers represent a sad person, but she's smiling in all these pictures.... Am I missing something? Sorry, if I already missed that part of the conversation. I do like these covers, the "meaning" is just lost to me.

Indeed it is clear, but it won't safe ayu from comments like 'omg lol sl*t, what a hoar, ew sexy much?'. The concept doesn't show at all.
At first I disliked this shoot so much, but after understanding what the whole concept was about, I started liking the covers. People who hear/see ayu for the first time (because of this album-cover-) will have a totally weird vision about her. XD I had too; when I found out about ayu I watched pv's like Sparkle, Rule and Ladies Night and I totally had the wrong picture of her back then lol. :mischief |

^^ I'm like that with I am... i always hope for something as epic as that, but it never turns out like that...
But most of the time I am happy with what she does. As for the image thing.. I liked her around the I am era... and I don't think she has changed that much... her voice has matured as well has her style, but she is the same person as before. |

Not everyone can smell that the album(covers) have a concept. Many people know her for her cutesy upbeat J-POP songs and touching ballads, so it will be different for people who discover her to hear lyrics like the one featured in 'Party queen' (song) where she's (almost) suggesting (/or even encouraging) people do drink to have fun with her. If the concept could have been done better, people (not only her fans) could understand it. They would know 'OH, so she's not drunk and posing like a ****, she's just sad and is covering it with partying'. I'm sure that people who discover her during this era will think of her as another Koda- artist. But whatever. |

I really like MY STORY but it's extremely ballad heavy. For her to do an album like that again, she would be taking a huge risk since people are sort of sick of getting that type of song from her lately.
I also think that people forget that a rather large fraction of her fanbase left after MY STORY was released because it was so 'terrible' at the time. |

If u listen to some of her biggest hits, again, a lot of her discography doesn't sound as stuff done by the same person... and this is my point: It doesn't matter what single, album, video or song bring you to Ayu fandom, she releases, releases and will release something that goes on the total opposite direction. There's no way to form a "right" image of her basing your opinions on only 1 album, pic or video. |
MY STORY may be a BALLAD heavy, but each one of them is VERY unique. I remember all of em. I don't like ballads like meaning of love,hbya,beloved. I don't remember any of melody except for the hbya chorus, cause it's in english... Even Curtain call and untitled ~for her~ are in that style, but for some reason, I like them.

I have to disagree about MY STORY because to me it's one of her best-s, so...full of ballads, but each of them is very good, imho. in terms of composition they are more complicated then simplified, acoustic, lately released beloved, HBYA & of the kind, all the same.

when I think of MY STORY ballads I think "Oh, these are songs from inner galaxy. From MY STORY galaxy." They are just diffrent then anything. I don't glorify them, it's not even my favorite album, but everything on MY STORY sounds just diffrent. It's MY STORY, it's a package of atmosphere that it's a little close to November song atmosphere.

beloved and hbya feel so simple and generic melody-wise, yet I cannot for the life of me remember how they sound, despite having listened to them like 30 times collectively. :| For hbya, I can only remember the chorus, and for beloved, I can't remember the melody at all unless I think REALLY, REALLY hard about it. These are the only two songs Ayu's ever released that I've had trouble remembering the melody for after like two or three listens max. :x |

Omg, I was just looking at the covers again and remembered that article a while ago that said Ayu and crew left her hotel room totally trashed and she had to pay all sorts of fines and everything. Guess she was a party queen before all this lol

RayJason it is super funny how 2 people on the forum use absolutely identical ways of 'presenting their arguments' and stalking people. to prove their position is superior & right they keep using and recycling(eww) the same arguments, I have noticed. which include not only words of 'you're a stupid, you're an idiot, you don't know Ayu', 'you know nothing' (the mix of immature attitude&self-inefficiency, I assume)but also a typical complicated phrases of 'you have ignored my post', 'you have no logic' etc. :roflmao

The reason that I hope this album as EPIC as MY STORY because everything she done for this album there's meaning behind it. The explanation about the cover that make me think/hope that there's story line in album that develop each song to the next one.
MY STORY was like what's going on in women mind, in her mind The anger on the beginning how she hate to playing game and what she can do, but the emotions when it reach the fever pitch it will fall down like deep impact that's the sad-sorrow ballad zone. I just hope it will be this way, LOL I'm feel so ridiculous. Seriously I've never been disappointed in her, there's only I didn't expect that but I like it. |

I didn't actually have tabloid covers in mind, but yeah those covers are cheaper looking than those.... The graphic designers of the covers didn't even look like they tried. I'm not complaining cuz Ayu's changed her image from classy to sexy and wild, its more cuz the covers are so terrible looking imo D: A "real mess"... maybe that's what the designers are trying to convey? To go with the "Party Queen" title? :P |
simple is the way to go when she is doing something like this. Is she did it too glam and pretty people would be complaining that it looks to profession to be what she is trying to do.

I wrote an article on why exactly I like the cover and as a response to some of the arguments used against it on my new blog(ironically as my first post since I was really thinking about those covers a lot lately...) since I felt like I wasn't really able to express it right in here without offending people

I read the blog. I like it a lot. I was aware of her sexuality (Japanese and western) but you explained it very well. I still don't favor the cover, though. It's just not my cup of tea, Ayu or someone else-wise. I don't know how you would offend people with this opinion

About the PVs: I have no definite hopes. I can see why Love Songs may have had boring PVs for many people though, but for me personally they were stunning. However I look at them in somewhat a cinematographer's view, so I look for great image composition, concepts, cut...rather than the entertainment aspect. |

When I think MY STORY though, first thought is not "ballads" - it's "my name's WOMEN, GAME, About You, Moments, walking proud, Liar, HAPPY ENDING, winding road, Humming 7/4, HOPE or PAIN" probably in that order. My first thought is "EPIC" but I do love practically all the songs.

Good job, Aderianu. Now that there's a somewhat larger version of the covers, I think I can see the 'sad Party Queen' ayu meant; her eyes aren't...smiling if you know what I mean. A really subtle kind of sadness.
