Where did Timmy come from?
 

I've been away from the Ayu universe for a while, and I'm a bit surprised to see that this Timmy guy is just about everywhere now. It seems a bit sinister how he's suddenly gotten so involved, even though I kind of like his cheesy rapping on "NaNaNa." :tipsy

So, where did Ayu find him?

I wanted to ask the same thing! Does anyone know how their paths crossed?

I feel kinda lost too.. like, who is Timmy? I mean, he is the rapper right but is it the same boy that appears in BRILLANTE and NaNaNa PV?

He was in BRILLANTE? Going to rewatch....

Did Ayu find him from youtube? or have I heard false information. I'd like to know the true story.

He was probably referred to her from a mutual friend or something. (Somehow, I bet Go-mi, hahahaha. No, seriously.)

He has been working in Japan for a while though as a 'talent'. I think I saw him on NHK World's imagine-nation when he was a part of that program. Surprisingly, he was in Ryomaden, the 2010 taiga drama, as a foreigner!

I think if someone asks him about how he met Ayu, he'd tell you how it happened.

Yeah, he's in both NaNaNa and BRILLANTE. He's in his 'drag queen' look for BRILLANTE though.

Timmy is Timothy Wellard, a composer. He first was introduced through Twitter last summer. Then he composed BRILLANTE and appeared at the PV. After that he's been with ayu non-stop. They went to NY together to shoot 2012 Calendar, then they went to London, where ayu met his family and where she recorded her new album. Timmy also appeared in NaNaNa pv. He composed several songs from Party Queen album.

Japanese media loves to consider him as ayu's new boyfriend, but ayu calls him "my girlfriend" and she said Timmy had a boyfriend.

I read somewhere Timmy has worked on Ayu's stuff for a while now but has never been so exposed as he is now. Or did I get something wrong?

Anyway, personally I think he's very good at composing music. BRILLANTE didn't really impress me first but now I think it's amazing. He has talent and I really hope he works with Ayu in the future too. :)

He started working with Ayu sometime in early 2011.

His work with her ranges from starring in her concerts since that time to appearing in PVs to being a backup vocalist as well as a composer. Basically, he's a part of just about all aspects of her career musically.

i remember reading somewhere that Timmy is also an opera singer, and has prob been helping Ayu with vocal training too. :yes

I recall in either a tweet or a TA entry that said, "Meet the newest team member, Timmy!" some time last year. I've heard she found him through YouTube or Twitter, but who knows. It would be a good question next time they go overseas and the fans get a chance to talk to him!

He has yet to use anything resembling operatic voice as far as I know(but I haven't watched anything he did that hasn't had to do with Ayumi), he DOES however have noticable choir traning, which also explains all the gospel influences in his compositions.

I think once someone asked him how they met, and he replied it was a funny story but would leave it to Ayu or sth... I don't remember!

I think I read somewhere that ayu saw a...video Timmy did or heard a song he wrote and then she liked it, hooked him up and they've been living happily ever after. Similar thing happened with the whole Sweetbox thing she did in (miss)understood, I think. She heard their songs and decided she wanted to sing songs like that - the rest was the history that is Bold & Delicious. What ayu like, ayu haz.

and yeah, timmy was in a drama and a few other things before he met up with ayu. he also released a mini EP of five songs. he also had a music video on youtube that was since removed.

You know, BRILLANTE PV has a whole new meaning to me. Timmy's sitting there influencing her career and all the fans are reaching up trying to grab her away from him but he just has some power over her and he is here to STAY!

I'm okay with Timmy composing, because he has great talent, but I'd like him to stop peppering his vocals here and there.

I like his songs he composed too. But I seriously want him to stop poping out here and there and stay as a composer and ayu's close friend. I really don't want him to appear on PV and concerts :headache

After reading all the posts, my only question is: Who is Timmy's boyfriend?

Ah, I see. He must be a pretty lucky guy, to be asked to join her production team after being spotted on Twitter of all places.

I do like most of the songs he's composed. They seem to be adding some new life to her music, especially since he's behind the only truly good song on FIVE (IMO) and some rather experimental ones on PQ. He just seems like such an oddball, and his sudden rise to power on Planet Ayu took me by surprise.

It could be that his character from the "BRILLANTE" PV doesn't help matters there --- his role reminds me of Iago from "Othello" or something. It makes him seem like a kind of sinister "man behind the curtain" figure, even if he might be perfectly nice in real life. ;)

I thought it was funny how he and one of my Japanese gay friends knew each other before I heard of him working with ayu :P

Hey all! This is my first time posting here. I've only had an account since this past September, but I've been a long time lurker. I felt the need to finally post here because of the noticeable dislike for Timmy that I've observed on this forum. I totally get that everybody has their own taste in music. You don't like the songs Timmy composes musically? While I do not share that opinion, it is still a perfectly valid one. Anyway, that aside, I wanted to explain why I not only like but love that Timmy works with Ayu so often.

Well, first off, I remember when I first saw the Brillante video. It was just so gorgeous and powerful. Ayu was great in that song. Also, Timmy (although at the time he was just 'that guy next to Ayu' to me, I didn't know his name) was a nice touch to the music video. I mean, maybe it's just because I'm into drag queens and crazy costumes in general, but I loved his get up (the makeup, the corset) and dramatic acting.

Moving forward I learned that Timmy composed HBYA, as well as some other PQ songs, and was also featured in the NaNaNa music video. I couldn't have been more happy. Not only did I just like the music he made, but in addition to that he symbolized something to me.

I always wondered if Ayu was alright with homosexuality. I mean I had an idea that she maybe was, because of some of her music videos such as Lady Dynamite and Green, but I still didn't know for certain if she was REALLY okay with it, you know what I mean? As a gay person myself this mattered to me. I mean I didn't let it dictate my life or anything of course not xD But still, because I looked up to Ayu because I think she's a great artist and person, I wondered if she was really totally fine with homosexuality.

So as you guys probably know, Timmy is gay xD The fact that he and Ayu are friends (it really seems like they are judging by their tweets and her interviews!) and work together so often makes me so happy. She obviously accepts him (and all sorts of other people judging by her HBYA pv+lyrics!). I almost can't put into words what a relief that is to me.

So yeah, that's why I like Timmy. I like his music, I loooooove when he wears crazy makeup, and I love how Ayu has embraced him as a friend and co-worker.

I recall Ayu saying trough TA or twitter that he was going to be a new member on her band,and i thought he would play the bass or the guitar at her concerts but i was totally wrong xD He become the new Ayu's best friend.I don't know where they first met though.

But seriously, we're (I'm) picking on him when its really Ayumi's fault that he's all over this album. I mean if he had no shame and told her he could dance when he seriously cannot, after seeing the finished product she should've instructed the editors to edit him out of the PVs or something. I bet she was excited about this new sound so she didn't realize that his voice didn't necessairly suit all of the songs. Where was Max or the producer? who knows, not that it matters anyhow. I would've thought after the Naoya (or whatever his name is) fan response, she wouldn't shove another person down her fans' throat, but clearly she does things her way and isn't going to be told anything otherwise by anyone even if it was going to affect the resultant product. I wish she'd realize that we're fans of Ayumi Hamasaki, not necessairly Ayumi Hamasaki and her extended family.

I wish Ayu would work with actual talent... This boy is not a composer. Okay, let him work on her image, her costumes, her hair, her nails, her relationships, whatever, but keep him away from the actual music. He has no original musical point-of-view.

^ agreed with above. He is nothing more than an ametuer composer. Then again, so was Ayu, but that didn't stop people obsessing over CREA tracks. She has a whole arsenal of professional producers she could work with.

You have to give credit when it is due - BRILLANTE and how beautiful you are are great tracks that he was involved in composing.

And he's not even an amateur rapper or singer. He's just flat out terrible at that and should embarrasing himself.

Whenever he came from, he can go right back. He's has nothing but a negative impact of Ayu's career over the past year.

I don't really -mind- Timmy, I just fail to understand Ayu's reasoning for using him so much. I mean... I just don't get it. Do I like the songs on Party Queen that he is in/composed? Yes. But I just don't understand why he is being incorporated into everything. And I don't expect Ayu to "throw" him away (nor do I want her to), because I assume he works exclusively for her at the moment. So until Ayu decides that he won't be as visible in her work, he will stay where he is, doing what he does.

I just find myself asking "why?" much more than I ever thought I would.

yea it's kinda weird that his work is not only just one job, he's composer, background vocal, PV model, ayu's assistant (seems to me coz he's been with her most of the time now), interpreter, what else? LOLS.. pretty much everything lols

It seems that Ayu has a tendency to over-use people and things. Shuya's had strong presence for quite some time.

I am afraid Ayu would never know her fans are fans of a solo artist. This is so sad and ironic because I remember in Max Matsuura's blog about how he and Ayu met, Ayu said she wanna be a solo artist without a doubt.

Yes, I'm gay. But I don't believe in a double standard. I'm not a malicious person, and I'm basically a modern-day hippie who believes in peace and love. Sorry, but did you listen to BRILLANTE and how beautiful you are? BRILLANTE is unlike anything ayu has ever done, and it sounds amazing.

As for how beautiful you are, it can easily be compared to beloved, JEWEL, teddy bear, etc. (piano ballads). While I think Eyes, Smoke, Magic, and the next LOVE are especially bad, he has shown that he can do a good job composing.

To be honest, I care much less about where he came from, all I want to know is when he will leave. LOL
