relmy 16th April 2012 07:28 PM

Copies sold in Asia, copies sold after the album drops off the Oricon etc...

Andrenekoi 16th April 2012 07:35 PM

I don't think this counts Asia sales... I remember reading some article about A Best (and Distance, it focused on the Ayu vs Hikki thing) and the A Best Asia sales reported was a lot more than the official Oricon sales...

relmy 16th April 2012 07:42 PM

Hmm true, some of the differences are too low.

RayJason 16th April 2012 08:05 PM

The differences in all of them are so fricking big! WTF

chocopockymaster 16th April 2012 08:16 PM

avex's figures are based on copies of the album that were shipped, IIRC...not necessarily copies sold, which is what Oricon keeps track of.

unhidragtor 16th April 2012 08:24 PM

and what about NEXT LEVEL?

mizuki-7 16th April 2012 08:30 PM

No on the website it's well said that it's the copies sold lol nothing about next level though ...

Quote:

Looking at sales of music CDs by title, our representative artist, “Ayumi Hamasaki”, sold 840,000
copies of her single “Endless sorrow”, 720,000 copies of her single “Dearest”、and 700,000 copies of
her single “UNITE!”. Her continued popularity contributed greatly to sales. Though released near
the end of last fiscal year, her “ BEST” album sold 610,000 copies in the interim period, reaching
total sales of 4,510,000 copies. This success should enable “Ayumi Hamasaki” to mature as an artist
eventually capable of leading the Japanese music industry.

isthisLOL? 16th April 2012 08:36 PM

Avex sold them, but to stores, not to individuals. What Oricon tracks are sales by stores to individuals. Some of those are in stores but were never sold from there, meaning they are in avex's numbers but not "real" sales.

mizuki-7 16th April 2012 08:40 PM

But avex count the sales after top 300 and also envents not Oricon (just 30%)

toniayu 16th April 2012 08:57 PM

damn oricon >_<
Thanks for the info

brener 16th April 2012 09:24 PM

thanks! thats interesting

Kana×Shin 16th April 2012 09:43 PM

Oricon counts international sales, right?

ayumisrael 16th April 2012 10:15 PM

Oricon count most of Japan's stores/sites orders as long as it's in Japan.

avex's numbers are shipped copies sales though it's wierd that FIVE isn't certified platinum.

ayuuk 16th April 2012 10:27 PM

NEXT LEVEL disappears LOL

njanjayrp 16th April 2012 10:41 PM

Those are most likely the numbers of copies shipped.

Ayumi_lover 16th April 2012 11:44 PM

avex also counts concert venues sales? right?

Neil 17th April 2012 01:12 AM

Record labels are notorious for inflating record sales so take with a pinch of salt.

Of course ORICON is extremely flawed for a variety of reasons. Does not take into account digital sales, does not take into account sales if it's not in the chart etc...

zellyx 17th April 2012 01:28 AM

daaang look at the A Ballads difference.
"A BALLADS” (album) 1,710,000--> 1 040 000 copies

Tony G 17th April 2012 04:50 AM

^ clearly stores expected it to sell better than it did. For that time those sales for a best album are very very low.

freedreamer 17th April 2012 04:56 AM

I dont know what numbers to believe in but these definitely look nice

TITANIC 17th April 2012 06:54 AM

wow very surprise with the result from Avex. I am... sold nearly 1 million more than what Oricon reported and A BALLADS 700K

SURREAL__RAINBOW 17th April 2012 07:06 AM

This is because some shops' sales don't count towards ORICON even though they still sell albums, singles, etc?

Yep, ORICON is mediocre and useless :laugh

EDIT: And not to even mention all the sales that are missing from the concert venues, since ORICON only counts a percentage of them? I still think this is not fair for anybody, if they think the companies are trying to boost their artists' sales (which is fair enough I think), couldn't they have people there making sure they aren't cheating and getting dodgy numbers? The percentage thing is just ****ing stupid, I hate it.

sanzo2011 17th April 2012 07:29 AM

I'm surprised that A Complete hasn't reached million yet!@@!

A BALLADS isn't a best of album, it was a compilation/concept album (like Shimatani's "crossover") with some tracks remixed/re-arranged, so I don't think it falls into the same category as A BEST.

microphone 17th April 2012 09:21 AM

Which albums kept I am... and Duty from topping the year-end rank?

sanzo2011 17th April 2012 09:48 AM

Deep river and Delicious way, respectively!
Utada outsold I am... total sales in its first week!@@!

For example, if I remember correctly, YesAsia doesnt count toward Oricon.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 17th April 2012 10:59 AM

I think they do now but before they didn't :)

crazy how sales were back then.

anyway, ORICON is always stupid. Even their polls suck. I think they've just been outdated for a while...

just like the global music industry though tbh. Guess we can't really blame them.

That was not always the case.

Deep snow 18th April 2012 12:22 AM

Seeing those high sales, I'm feeling...nostalgic.

Damn it, Utada...
Give the other artists a chance. She shows no mercy!

DEEP RIVER was a great album and deserved more sales than Distance, in my opinion. I'm just going to assume Ayu outsold the third highest selling album of that year by a large amount of copies. Do correct me if I'm wrong to think that.

Mr Jo' 18th April 2012 01:28 AM

"I am …” album sold 3.14 million Cds"
"FIVE" 250,000 copies

Awww :(

But now i think the only important thing for her is that us, the fan base we're always here to support her ~
Maybe now she don't care about the number of cds she sold...

rakeru 18th April 2012 02:09 AM

This is awesome! I like seeing (m)u over 1,000,000!

jo3mdr 18th April 2012 03:30 AM

For the difference in older releases, you guys should keep in mind that Oricon chart had only up to 100 position untill 2003, when it was extended to 200 and 300. And what if Ayu's releases sold only 1500 copies a week, which surely won't get a position in top 100, but sold steadily for one year... it would make at least 75,000 copies difference.

Refix 18th April 2012 05:49 AM

Wow, seeing Ayu's album sale hit +4 or +3 million is just nostalgic...what a great year back then.

kotora 18th April 2012 06:30 AM

I heard Oricon only counts the CD sales in big retail stores, e.g. HMV, Tower Record, but ignores the small retail stores in Japan.

woooww that's huge difference :thud

C+R+E+AYUMI 18th April 2012 12:06 PM

From 3.000.000 copies to 300.000... OMG

Anyway it's absurd the difference between Avex datas and Oricon's

Pieces_of_SEVEN 28th April 2012 12:27 AM

This is definitely interesting information! Wow, thanks for sharing.

Delicious n Bold 2nd May 2012 07:11 AM

Whoa, A BALLADS actually sold 700,000 more copies.
That's 700,000 more angsty people :P
