Andrenekoi 27th April 2012 09:04 PM

AyuWorld 27th April 2012 09:06 PM

ok i dont know what is this event about xDD

truehappiness 27th April 2012 09:14 PM

Amazing flying squirrel covered in rainbows.

Andrenekoi 27th April 2012 09:14 PM

@AyuWorld
Pride parades for the LGBT community (also known as gay pride parades, pride events and pride festivals) are events celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture. The events also at times serve as demonstrations for legal rights such as same-sex marriage. Most pride events occur annually and many take place around June to commemorate the Stonewall riots, a pivotal moment in the modern LGBT rights movement.

Doesn't that statement mean that you are somewhat against gay people?

Part of the message of how beautiful you are was to encourage anyone regardless of their sexuality/appearance/weight/height/disabilities/whatever and tell them that they are beautiful. The PV reinforces that with a theme of universal love between all types of people (men with men, women with women, people who are into S&M, people who have prosthetic legs, etc.)

From Misa-chan's blog:
Quote:

Tokyo_R_Pride: Hamasaki Ayumi fans, please spread. As a conclusion to Tokyo Rainbow Pride on 29/4, all participants will sing ayu’s 「How beautiful You Are」. We are considering making an ayu float too. http://t.co/NuGQpsZw #trp2012 #ayu
ayu_19980408: RT

Tokyo_R_Pride: The PV features homosexual love and praises love of all kinds, and the message of “you are beautiful” goes well with our theme this year, so that’s the main reason why it’s chosen. Please sing it with us!
ayu_19980408: This is a happy story for me, who had learnt my life lessons at Nichome ever since I was a little kid!! Please use my song to make a wonderful closing ballad ♡
I wonder what the Ayu float might look like. Also, Ayu seems like she hung out around Nichome a lot even as a kid. (It's basically a gay district in Shinjuku/Tokyo)

Not a fan of the song but it does fit well. Though I would prefer a more "fun" song like NaNaNa or Shake it<3

I know why the word was chosen. I still think it's not the right term to discribe it since in the end it's a sexuality, not an accomplishment. I just think there should be no term like that involved at all. Especially in parades, the fact that it is a parade already involves it being the opposite of shame, it being a celebration of it. Gay parade would be more than enough. I'd prefer Gay rights parade but the main focus of today's parades has little to do with that soooo... xD

The word "pride" may also refer to respect, esteem, appreciation, not just in terms of accomplishment. When you say you're proud of someone or something, you feel certain that this person/thing has a value of some kind, a value to you, society, a company, a cause etc., and in addition to this, pride may also refer to good self-esteem and self-respect, something that of course is important for gay people to have in the face of a narrow-minded world.
So I think the term "gay pride" is meant to say that gay people have just as much value as other people and should feel good about themselves regardless of what others have to say about their sexuality. The parades may not always focus on gay rights, but they do focus on letting people feel happy about themselves and enjoy life, knowing that there's nothing wrong with them and they should go out and feel like valuable human beings instead of staying in the closet.
(Or at least that's how I see it...)

Pieces_of_SEVEN 28th April 2012 12:24 AM

awww this is awesome! I love it!

Evolution7/4 28th April 2012 06:20 AM

Doesn't surprise me. I get choked up watching the PV. Especially during the scene with everyone walking through the wind. They walk on even through hardships. And Ayu follows them signifying she is helping with them in their struggle.

I think its the perfect theme.

Yumsushi 28th April 2012 06:23 AM

Whats wrong with that Squirrel. Japan is the land of animation, not cartoon abomination lol

jbrat2219 28th April 2012 06:26 AM

Queen of the gays, to be honest.

Evolution7/4 28th April 2012 06:31 AM

^And I see no problem in that!

AyUmIXx 28th April 2012 06:39 AM

This is lovely.. The song is rly special n i'm glad its got chosen for the parade theme song.. At least it'll hv a little promotion for the song

AyuBlackwind 28th April 2012 06:59 AM

That logo is so cute. The flying squirrel....

Yay, for Ayu being so supportive of equal rights and love for all.

It's a perfect song for this event in my opinion. :love

JackieRos 28th April 2012 07:09 AM

squirrels don't have big thick tails like that, I think is a groundhog or otter.
could be a flying squirrel too I guess but what do squirrels have to do with pride lmao

The song fits very perfectly and if they do a float of ayu it'll be awesome to see.

but wow, amazing. now all gay men in Japan shall buy a copy of Party queen and Ayu will overthrow AKB48 as #1 selling artiste of 2012

Andrenekoi 28th April 2012 07:27 AM

Pieces_of_SEVEN 28th April 2012 07:29 AM

Eewyi 28th April 2012 08:10 AM

Oh I absolutely love this idea! <3 HBYA is perfect song for this~ And like ayu, I support all kinds of love. No matter who u love, it's the most important that you love~ and being a gay or lesbian or straight, it doesn't matter at all. I have two lesbian couples in my class as well. Go ayu, go love of all kinds! ^__^/

Pieces_of_SEVEN 28th April 2012 08:30 AM

^^Exactly. Love is love is love and I commend ayu SO much for doing this. I love her :heart

SURREAL__RAINBOW 28th April 2012 08:41 AM

Seriously, if you're homophobic or against the gays, you don't deserve ayu, or any JPop diva for that matter :rolleyes

The logo is hilarious! And yay for the song they picked, the pv fits pretty well I guess?

Pieces_of_SEVEN 28th April 2012 08:43 AM

^I think it definitely fits. Is homophobia a big issue in Japan like it is in certain parts of the US? Can't say I know too much about the subject.

Evolution7/4 28th April 2012 08:46 AM

^And I think the fact that a *Japanese* person is standing up for gay rights makes it all the more revolutionary and important!!! Thats why the HBYA video is so touching. Any artist doing a video like that is touching, but the fact that a Japanese person is stepping out and doing it is even more meaningful

**I will say though that I have been talking to fellow gay japanese friends about this since I have been here and they say its getting better and better!

Andrenekoi 28th April 2012 08:46 AM

Based on what I read, being gay is just seen as overall immoral over there, or something u must grow off, so, most gay people just hide themselves and let their gay sides to take over only on the lgbt guetos...

Things are so complicated not every year has a Gay Pride Parade there, and when it does have, a lot of people goes there in disguise of fear of being regonized.

From what I know in Japan they have a big "don't ask, don't tell" thing going on, but they aren't as direct in showing their hate towards us as they are in other countries I guess? I don't even think they hate the gays as much as in other countries.

Still, same old, this homophobia subject needs to stop, everywhere, I'm sick of it, people need to get over themselves.

So happy for this event :)

Evolution7/4 28th April 2012 08:49 AM

^Yup! Like there is no major bullying problems or outward homophobia, its just everything is closeted, even between close friends.

I see, so basically everyone is just discreet and respectful, it seems. Like even if two people of the same sex share 1 bedroom, huh? Cool.

TITANIC 28th April 2012 09:15 AM

the lyric is very suitable for the theme but I prefer something more upbeat for a theme song like such this parade

Well it wouldn't be a problem really, the thing is that because we are a minority some people attack us, bully us, and some gay people even get killed in some countries, so we have to somehow fight for our rights in the most glamorous way possible ;)

It isn't just a bedroom thing, but yeah I agree with you, it should be just a bedroom thing but people decide to pick on us because they feel like it.

Anyway, I've always known ayu as a gay icon, even before all the gay themes in her pvs, I've been told this years ago and I guess is one of the reasons why I became a fan perhaps? :P I wish I could attend this.

I think the guy or girl doesn't mean that in a harmful way. If straight person said "I'm proud of being straight," wouldn't everyone think "What? That's so strange." I think it's the same with homosexual people. Of course, I'm not against the gay pride parade or festivities, they're actually quite fun in the city I'm staying. But in reality, people should not have to say "I have gay pride" or "I'm proud of being gay" because it's not something people should be proud of. Not because it's a bad or dirty word or idea, but because we should have already accepted and moved on that homosexuals do exist and it's not a bad thing.

I do agree with you. Gay Pride actually shouldn't have to exist, we should all accept each other as we are. There is nothing wrong with homosexuality, there is nothing EVER wrong with LOVE.

Sadly we live in world where this is not accomplish-able yet. So as long people are not willing to accept we'll parade for our rights.

People are taking the "theres no pride in being gay" thing too hard in their asses (literally). I'm sure the person who wrote it actually meant that there's as much pride in being gay as being straight. You don't hear straight people go all "PRIDE FOR STRAIGHT PEOPLE YO". :P

If this is a gay forum, the AHS logo would be in Rainbow color representing gays. :P

EXACTLY. i don't understand how someone can be an Ayu fan, but at the same time be homophobic. its pretty much against everything Ayu stands for. :shrug

as for pride in being gay...well, when you're a minority and there are so many people out there who hate you, you have to take pride in yourself because no one else is going to do it for you. if we don't take pride in ourselves, people will never overcome their ignorance and we will never have the same rights as everyone else. i think some people don't understand because they've never had to live their life as an outcast, knowing they're different from those around them, or knowing that despite being in a committed relationship, in the eyes of the law you are complete strangers. its terrifying to think that because of people's stupidity, if something terrible happened to my partner, i wouldn't even be notified, nor would i even have rights to visit him in the hospital. :(

anyway, as for Ayu, i'm really happy her song is being used. it fits perfectly! i'm so proud of her, and to be her fan. :yes

thats nice that Ayumi is doing this...
I knew she was becoming the lady gaga of Asia. Just didn't know how long it would take her.
Asia and the way they treat their sexuality is just so... off to me, lol. It's like accepted, but at the same time, its not. And I dont think it has anything to do with 'dont ask, dont tell. It more like, you are a kid... go try and experiment! BUT! dont enjoy it too much because at some point you have to start a 'real' family.

As for pride parades, I think at this point that have evolved beyond being gay events. It seems more like an acceptance kinda thing now. Yes gay people go to these things and are proud of being out -- which this is what I got what the parades, its not being proud about being gay, but being proud to tell people that you are gay -- but all sorts of people come to the parade and have fun and support and just to do everything.
