What do you think of You & Me?
Wow, really wasn't expecting them to release the song this way - or this early. Considering how it's the only new song on the album, I know this was a big selling point for people; wonder how it'll effect the sales. I'm happy it turned out to be dancy/poppy, which is weird, because it's on Disc-N, right?
I also wonder how different it's gonna be from the version on the album since it's a "YouTube edit." |
It's catchy and fun IMO, like her upbeat summer tracks tend to be... I like how lighthearted it sounds compared to almost everything she did since Sunrise, I like it's unpolished sound... overall I find it to be a strong track^^
|
At first I thought it was gonna be a cute ballad on how it first started but once the music picked up it really drew me in. I still think the English is awkward tho.
|
It sounded like it would sound awesome when it boosted up but the composition didn't help much.
The composition sounds like cliche recycled jpop, something picked from a rina aiuchi's songs b-sides junkyard. I mean that construction is so obviously common anime jpop, that I was sure I had heard this song many times before. With the dancy/electronic beats it ended up sounding like some "olympics or world cup advertisement" song, which equals "Tacky" for me. Can't wait to listen to the album version though. |
After many listens (nearly 20):
-the chorus is crack -the bit after the chorus is crack -the verses are dryer than the desert -the song dies at 3:18. |
I like this song, I like the lyrics, I loooove the melody and her vocals. The arrangement a bit sucks to me, but still it's not that bad.
Tbh I don't like that this sounds like a song from 90s, but I will hope till the end that original mix will be different :laugh Now, I can't wait for the PV. Something tells me that it's going to be great. And when I see it, I'll forget all the flaws the song has. Hope she'll perform it on TV. |

love love LOVE this song....
Not as good as some of her older fast tracks (evolution, unite, connect) but what can we expected 10 years later. |
From the official news thread: Not too excited about this. It's a very typical TK track from recent times. You can give it to AAA and it'd still work imo. Unlike Love songs where the tracks are pretty different and experimental. I think it will grow on me though. Still feeling pretty neutral about it.

Ok, I've listenened to this song almost 30 times lol.
At first I was meh, but then I realized it's not that bad! Not her best summer song, but it's not that crap neither. It still sound like a generic TRF song to me and I'm still disappointed it's from the same TK who made many epic songs in Love songs (like November). But it's still enjoyable and upbeat. So, I'm ok with this lol. |
tetsuya is one of my favorites composers, this song is better than any track on LOVE SONGS album. im a dance/techno guy ...so this kind of track are just made for me.
10 stars,,and better than any other summer songs |
Works for me. But now I'm waiting for official news to come out that somebody else than TK wrote it so everyone can lose it. :laugh
|
TK just composed melodies for Love Songs, the only track he fully produced for the whole album was crossroad. Ayu even said originally most of the tracks were dance tracks, but she and her producers rearranged them as ballads.
|
I was like:
?? ballad... then wait, trance?? Catchy! I like it! Though.... does sound dated for some reason. Her vocals do sound good.. I can't decide what it is that makes it sound dated. I think it's the trance-y background; makes it sound like a typical jpop anime theme song track. I do love the "woah woah woahs" I believe this isn't fully mastered since it's only a youtube edit. |
It's different than what I expected, which isn't a bad thing ^-^ It's quite good actually ~ I like it
|
Idk yet
|
I don't think it's great. I don't care for the composition. I don't care for these kinds of compositions in general.
Different and interesting, sure. But they lack the power, simple beauty, and catchiness that I love. But, it's not bad. And it seems sweet. I feel like it's a nice time for this kind of song. Should probably give it a few more listens. It might grow on me. I feel like it's a song I'll appreciate, but never love. But who knows. Listened again. I like the little coming down parts. But no...I dont care for the composition, but it owns the arrangement...I don't find it catchy in the way of, something I would be wanting to have in my head all day, and sing whenever it comes on. The vocals kinda remind me of old ayu. But that's it. I'd love to hear what an acoustic version would sound like. |
So the chorus is great and catchy and that's really the only part I like about it. Maybe the full version will be better and that ayu spark I feel is missing will be there. I sure hope so.
|
It's catchy but easily one of her worst tracks to me. Sounds tacky and cheap.
|
i heard she said something sounding like "ong" instead of "on" xD
|
Quote:
granted, the song doesn't sound special in any way. not having high hopes for the album version (if it is different than the youtube edit) |
it's simply bad. outdated. cheap. uninspired. boring.
|
It sounds like some David Guetta or American dance music rip off, honestly it doesn't sound original at all, sorry XO
|
I don't dislike it; the song is fun. But after a few listens I don't find it particularly memorable. (It started out that way but lost it at the chorus). It's more "background music" type for me.
|
i love it.really really love it.thats how summer song should be.not like another song :P
|
So far, I really like it, but I'm going to reserve final judgement for the "real" version.
|
Yesterday I wasn't too into this song, but suddenly today I got so overly obsessed with it that now I'm only hoping they won't change title's style from You & Me to You&Me or something because I already have lots of plays for it. XD I really like it and TK did a great composition. I just wait for a translation to appear somewhere because I'd like to know what's this actually about. :)
|
The more I listen the more I like it...
|
I love it, it feels like a nice mixture of her older summer songs and the Party Queen album. I wouldn't mind her going more into this direction, it suits her.
|
@ ayu ready I hate to admit it, but I agree. I tried to like it. I don't.
|
i dislike the song
|
Quote:
|
it's catchy enough but its very formulaic, especially with the wo wo wo bits, it felt like they didn't belong there and were just added as an afterthought cause a lot of ayu summer songs have the obligatory wo wo wo/yeah yeah yeah parts in them
the speeding up trancey beats reminded me a little of we found love by rihanna, which i liked overall i think its decent though~ |
we found love is an infinitely much better song though.
|
^ without a doubt
|
I love it very sweet and summery.. although the arrangement is bad in some parts :shakehead
but its different and a song that i would listen to again and again when i am in a good mood :innocent + Ayu vocal is perfect |
Quote:
|
Not bad, not bad~
I like this song and his voice sounds pretty good. But... that's all. |
^ his voice? lol
|
I love it! Bunch of turnips in here...
|
^hahaha turnips?! lol
I like it, but I probably will hardly ever listen to it which is fine since A) Ayu summery songs arent my favourites unless they're ballads like MOON... B) This isnt a single and I dont really mind that its just tacked onto a Best album. This is something extra for the album, so not much reason to complain. |
I think that, for the first time I'm absolutely sure she's gone 100% downhill. There's not a single thing I like about this track. It's so forgettable, her voice in it is not good, the techno/dancy melody is just irritating, etc. I don't like it.
|
i love the song so far! i'm very happy that it's upbeat, too. because i didn't know what to expect, an upbeat song or a ballad. although i would have been fine with a ballad, i'm still so happy that the song is upbeat & i really like it. :)
|
Was not expecting the upbeat stuff after that intro o_O but compared to all her other summer songs, this won't do. Idk it's missing something...
|
I thought it was alright...
I mean it's not her worst, but it's unlikely to turn into one of my faves either. |
So far I really like this.
Seems almost fresh compared to her other hits. |
i hated it. But i found myself singing the chorus over and over at the end of the day! Seriously, the melody sounds too Jpop Generic. But i don't know why it feels like it has something different. Something Ayu can only put on her songs."
|
I only got about halfway through the song before I got bored of it. It doesn't hold my interest unlike other songs such as Kumi's Whatchu Waitin' On?, Perfume's Hurly Burly, or even AAA's 777 ~We can sing a song!~.
After the disappointment that was Party Queen and now this, I'm starting to lose interest in Ayu. I'm hoping the ToX song is great, but I'm not gonna hold my breath at this point. |
I can't stop listening to it! Definitely not what I expected, and DEFINITELY what I wanted!!! :D
|
catchy, funny, fresh and summerish..It won't be my favourite song but it's a perfect summer single! And I've been missing a summer single for so long!
Moreover the PV is very nice, she looks absolutely a goddess, love it. |
full version is ECSTATIC, purely GOLD Ayu Wins.
It's never too late for friggin' awesome A SUMMERS SONG. |
I found myself loving this song after listening to the full version. :)
I think I heard the background voice saying 'Ayumi' at the beginning of the song? |
yup..this song is so good in full!!!
my fav part is second verse |
I want to love it, but I find myself bored with it .___.
It's really cute and have this summer feeling but there's something that just.. Well, hope it grows on me :3 |
I hate the english. I was saying on twitter...part of me kind of wishes it didn't have the electro feel it has.
I would love love an acoustic version that was more simple, because I think the best part about the song is the chorus composition. I think this song has ended up like a lot of other TK songs for me, where the composition is nice, but the arrangement is...not exactly what I wanted. But it's not terrible. I kinda like that super cute, sweet sound from the string-ed piano and the synthy stuff. I guess I really only don't like the rihanna electro stuff. I also don't like the wow wow wows. Ending is perfect. Vocals are nice, except when she's speaking english and sounds like she's holding her nose. Otherwise, gorgeous. So much better than the short version. Like 50 gazillion million times better. This song is going to be great live. So happy it's not a damn ballad. |
^ I agree with everything you said. I highly dislike this electronic arrangement. It sounds very outdated.
And the english parts.. Not good. but at least it has the summer feeling, and that's the point |
Loving the full version!!! Such a nice summer song! :yes
|
The progress of the song is very predictable. You listen to the first 1:20 minutes and after that you know what you gotta expect for the other 4 minutes. For instance "SURREAL" was such a weird and unusual concept for a song, there are like three parts in it and each of them is a different sound, only the ending is similar with the melody at the beginning.
Nevertheless. I am not against generic pop songs in general. "You & Me" is OK and it's on the disc that I prefer over the other one =D |
^lol I'm pretty sure a lot of ayu songs have a predictable pogression.

Haven't listened to the full version yet. But, if she was going to try something electronic and trancy for the Summer - I wish she had done it right. It just makes me all the more mad that she did it all wrong! Listening now: I don't think her voice is bad. Yeah the English and maybe the verses aren't wonderful, but her voice in the chorus is nice. Also, there is now real power to the song. The chorus removes like all the bass. And those "whoa-whoa"s are just terrible. Whoever said they are like glitter is mental. Lol... glitter's are much better, these just suck and come out of nowhere. |
I don't actually have an issue with that aspect of it. When it comes to anything with strong electronic influence, I'm usually quite picky and the arrangement for whatever reasons can ruin a song and use of the style can be so annoying sometimes
But I really like it in the song. It's easy for me to listen to here. It's fun, it just makes me wanna dance. I don't know if I can find anything I dislike about the song, and I love it way more than I thought I would. And even more than some past summer songs, really that are on this ASB release like Greatful Days and BLUE BIRD and such. That's how I feel. |
I love the full version. I can see this becoming a concert staple song. :laugh
|
I wouldn't mind it being a concert staple if Greatful Days was erased from history for it.
|
The full version is definitely better. The rhymes tend to be annoying and I dunno something bugs me, but deffo not as much as the short version did.
|
After hearing the WHOLE version, I must say... I LOVE IT!! This is one of the summer song that I will jam everywhere!! XD
|
I've listened to it a few times now and I have to say, her voice is really grating and just sounds whiny to me. Not gonna be listening to this, like, ever lol but ah well. Waiting for the next proper release~
|
i think it's really catchy. Especially the chorus i keep randomly singing it in my head out of nowhere xD plus I think she sounds really good, i like her voice! Tho it's not gonna be a song i would keep listening xD
|
I dunno the full version isn't as beat heavy as the first version
tbh I dunno maybe it is my ears but I like it wayyyyyyyy more I hate songs like Namie's Naked that just had wayyy too much beats and breaks |
The arrangement is good and had potential to make it a powerful dance song...the composition is what really lacks here...I don't feel a summer energy here, just an attempt of turning a (very) cliche anime opening track into a failed rival of "We Found Love". Both songs are repetitive but WFL at least makes you feel like kicking the dust out of the floor and has a good build up and delivers it well with the chorus...You & Me doesn't, and has the common bad jpop habit of attaching pieces, being the verses one song and the chorus a completely different song. Also, there are parts in which the song turns a bit tacky because it gets that olympics cheering "Born to be..." feel; It worked somewhat for BTB... because it was indeed adressed to olympic games but really gets quite tackey in You & Me. LOL
|
The non-chorus parts are kind of tacky and don't help build up to the chorus and the basic chord combination in the chorus is really cliché but it's a fun song to listen to. The ballady piano parts add emotional value to the song although it doesn't match the style at all. There is a lot of flaws in You & Me but listening to it made me happy and sad at the same time, to the point where I almost started getting teary-eyed, not even kidding! I think if the arrangement had been better, and maybe actually stuck to one style instead of trying to merge both ballad and dance, it could have made a quality song. It would be interesting to hear an acoustic orchestra version of this with piano.
|
I really like it - it's a fun song. Not too sure about the PV.
mi|kshake~ |
i have a soft spot for TK, so yeah, i enjoy because of that. :laugh
but in the overall grand picture of things, it's nothing new or fresh. it's a very standard ayu song, imho. it's fun, but i'll forget about it eventually. |
cheap production and very weak to be included in A SUMMER BEST. I mean Part of Me is fabulous song to be in A BEST II -Black- so I expect the additional song for ASB must be as good as Part of me but the fact duh
|
^lol I thought part of me was boring. Nice song, kinda like it, never listen to it. I like You & Me a lot more
|
^I did too lol
I mean it's pretty...but that's about it. It gets so much love. Always makes me laugh. that sounds so *****y :laugh |
Horrible and terrible
|
As much credit as I TRY to give to it, I can't help but agree it's really a lackluster production and I didn't like the sound of it at all. The introduction perhaps, but once it hit the techno portion, I just couldn't help cringing. She needs to make some major revisions to the kind of people she's working with and this is definitely not cutting it.
We're not expecting her to go back to her glory days in the early 2000s but at least produce decent material that is befitting of her reputation. |

I like the chrous. It's pretty catchy n her voice definitely sounds way better in this song than on PQ. But the problem for me for her recent works since happening here n pretty much most of PQ tracks are that the arrangements lack something.

Anyway, Part of me has no similarity to You & Me so I probably shouldn't further comment on anything relating to TITANIC's comparison lol. And I already said I like You & Me better. |
I LOVE IT! It's so catchy, and ayu fooled us, making us think it was going to be a ballad at first! I love the melody and beats! haha
|
i played it on repeat from 8AM - 1.30PM...i didn't get bored with it...i love it...the full version really so much better than short version...
|
^Wow! Lol that's much longer than even I played it! :P I love that it's almost six minutes long, haha
|
I kinda really like the length too.
It's symbolic for me. I don't know if it was her intention...and I really don't care. |
^symbolic? how so?
|
oh...that's kinda personal ;)
|
I like the song, its pretty fun, but nowhere close to the awsomeness of sunrise~Love is all~ and other summer tracks. I wish it was even more like we found love, cause that song is haunting.
|
this song is all right.. but as for the PV... i don't get why Maro push Ayu down the vehicle~? ouch!
|
Well, at the beginning I was like: OH YEAAAH This is going to be awesome. Until around 1:05 when she started to sing the chorus :no ... and then the 'friday night' thing happened :dumbfound
|
I adore and prefer the Remo-con remix! :heart
|
It doesn't even compare to past summer songs, so meh. For me, it sounds like some cheap debut from an underpaid idol. But it's nice to see so many people liking it. :)
|
It's awful. I won't try to convince myself that it's gold, just because it's Ayu. I don't like it at all.
|
I love the chorus!
Melody and her vocals sound really nice there. But I really dislike the verses, her vocals there and the English... Though thumb up for having another long upbeat track in her discography! |
You & Me is ok. It's not her best summer song & it sounds as a remix but I don't hate it. Even if it's not the song that I listen again & again, I have hummed this song since two days. I was surprised. So, it's not a bad song.
|
i giggle at "ooo lunch time" but whatever, what a freaking catchy song. it makes me feel good and i feel like running around whenever i listen to it and yelling the chorus out. yayyy
|
Umm, well I like the album version more than the YouTube edit. But that's about it. How I feel about the song hasn't changed (intense dislike).
In a nutshell, I listen to it as much as I listen to the entirety of the Guilty album (which is once in a pink moon). |
Quote:
I like it even more now, with every listen. I really enjoy the arrangement of the second verse |
Quote:
It's okay. Not bad but not amazing. The style of the music reminds me of some Vocaloid producers. |
I was afraid at first that You & Me would be a ballad, but I'm really happy to see it's a very upbeat song. I enjoy it a lot, although I can't say if it will still be a favorite after some months. *shrug* It's plain fun to listen to though.
