Yeah it's almost impossible for Ayu to get #1 against SMAP. And then next week AKB is releasing an album, so there goes any chances for a second week #1 haha.

But I honestly don't think this was any plan by Avex trying to get Ayu a #1 album, otherwise they would never have released it this week.

But it could be a long seller? Maybe one of the days could get a #1 position. :) Does SMAP tend to be strong first day sellers but by 2nd and 3rd day they have a huge drop? Considering it has 4 editions I suppose that'll be the case, from all the pre-orders. Ayu also has this problem, but since it's a best album, it could chart much differently.

yeah... i think they're just releasing this best album as a summer gift since i doubt ayu will release a single or another full album this year... (maybe a digital single for the new tales of xilia theme song)

but i wont deny im sad about it =(( i miss ayu being on top...

I think it's quite good enough. There's nothing really special about this compilation anyway.

i wonder who is the competition for next week (2nd week)...maybe Ayu won't get number one on the first week, but there is still a hope for 2nd week if the competition is weak

AKB48 is releasing 1830m on 15th Aug so there's no way A SUMMER BEST can get #1 in the 1st 2 weeks of Aug

avex should have released the best album in July

I thought Johnny's groups were big single sellers...not so much in album. Their last album had a first week of 180 (back in 2010!). So maybe Ayu still has a chance.

This could be like the past when Ayu had to fight to get to the top XD

Let's face it, it's not gonna sell a lot... This album only has a new song, there aren't any TV performances planned (except for FNS which is more concert than a TV show), Ayu's not popular anymore and all her fans (me included) already have all these songs on other albums. It's predestined to fail since the moment it was announced

Part of me is sad about the ninki but the other part says Avex and Ayu or whoever was in charge jeopardized any chance for this album to sell by releasing it late in the summer and not promoting it enough. We can only hope for a miracle at this point.

I think Ayu could outsell SMAP actually. The only reason SMAP AID sold over 400k copies is because it was a charity album (last year's earthquake). And you guys should know how charity albums work... SMAP AID sold around 290,000 in its first week and it was #9 album of 2011. As for their last studio album in 2010 - We are SMAP!, it sold just around 180,000 in its first week (just to barely cross the platinum sales mark and end up as #25 album of 2010) and charted only for another 11 weeks (less than Party Queen). So, considering ASB is actually a best album, I expect the sales to be a lot better than Party Queen. Can't wait for the next week. Hope Ayu tops the charts once again!!

Party queen & 2012 NINKI numbers were something very close to these actual numbers, but that time Ayu was ranked #1 while 2012 was #2. And then... we all know what happened :o

It would be GLORIOUS if Ayu got #1. (However, I don't really know what will happen. The likelihood of her beating SMAP is just.. very VERY low)

SMAP has been around for 21 years & they're still the best selling Johnny's act of all time even after being in the business for so long

I frankly don't think A SUMMER BEST has any chances to outsell GIFT of SMAP even though by right , albums selling power for Johnny's are not as strong as their singles selling power

anyway real proof of the pudding will be seen in the 1st day sales of next week when both albums go head to head against each other

While living in Tokyo I see or hear SMAP at least a couple of times. Ayu is almost not present in this city anymore. The times i do see or hear her songs on the street I actually feel quite supriced. (But currently the most visible artist on the Tokyo streets is naturally AKB, Amuro and KARA. After them I think I see SMAP the most).

For me, it's a huge difference from when I lived here in 2009-2010. Ayu was covering the city way more at that time.

So, not only by looking at the index but also looking at the city, SMAP will winn. Or at least that's what I think.

I've been here only two weeks, but only heard Ayu once. They wereplaying You & Me at the Book Off in Shibuya.

They needed to release this together with kuu's album :thud

Anyway, I hope for good sales overall then :D

Plus her 15th Anniversary next year will be her return as queen.

Honestly I won't mind another mini-album with the new Xillia song as the huge tie in or she can release a winter best.

it doesnt bother me per say that she is no longer popular, Ayumi is going to be like Seiko, she will just never go away.
Which im happy with because i love her music...
it just might mean we will not be getting as much stuff as ayumi fans are use too.
which is what makes me sad the most.

Really excited n nervous about the sales. Hoping that it will pass the 200,000 at least *finger crossed* not so sure about the weekly no.1 since its going up against SMAP. But I'm contented with the gorgeous booklet photos n nice choice of summer songs

Hope all this stinginess on Ayu's promo budget means there's gonna be a HUGE promo push for 15th anniversary (if there is gonna be one).

The promotions have been so anaemic and the sales figures for PQ are testament to that. Even for this Best, promotions seem half-hearted and people are saying her presence is just not felt anymore.

That being said, I'm really hoping for a Number 1 and for this album to get a platinum certification. Her summer singles have been some of her best selling ones and who knows, might rekindle the loyalty of ex-fans!

I have high hopes for the sales despite the ninki!
