Yes, i just checked PQ first day, and it's better than that, so it's okay.
Never hoped in #1, so i'm not disappointed..

*And it was sold out, so maybe could be better, if there are more in the shops..

I dont really think that ASB will outsell PQ

Remember how PQ 1st day sales was before the release date so it was reason why the sales were steady and didnt drop in the first three days

IMO i think the sales will drop a lot tomorrow "i hope not"

We will be able to see if ASB could outsell PQ or not by the Next week

I think ASB will sell about 85-90k this week and i'm hoping for more :heart

i think people will be more interested in a-best than a summer best

So no chance for #1... hmm. Well, it is what it is. Now, stability is the key, I really hope it outsells Party Queen or at least sell as much as it did/(does).

She didn't promote this as much as A BEST 2, A BEST 2 was just HUGE.

A COMPLETE had many new things, and many fans were excited to own the lives, photobook with the never seen single jackets, and just own all of her singles until that date.

A SUMMER BEST is just that... "A SUMMER BEST". Nothing more and nothing less. And it didn't have that many new things. It's relaying on TA and a few hits like BLUE BIRD particularly.

I'm happy with these sales... I just wish they released it a week early, but oh well :P Good that it's doing good, I can't wait for what's next! I want a single (FFS ALREADY AYU PLEASE!!)

That's better than most of my fav's.

I still think that avex should have released A SUMMER BEST in early July as from mid July all the way to next week (due to AKB48's 1830m) , there's no way for ASB to get #1 , seeing that most recently , Southern All Stars's Kuwata Keisuke has been #1 for 3 straight weeks

Kuwata Keisuke wouldn't be #1 for the 4th straight week , since SMAP has already outsold ASB by almost 2.5 : 1 on the 1st day alone :thud

A Ballads had weak sales (for it's time of release), there was no way ASB was going to be a monster seller...

well I don't really expect anything since I don't like Best Of albums especially now where you can find the songs that you want without buying a whole album !
And since most of them are in the previous Best Of, I don't see any interest in that album sorry...
But I'll support this project ! I hope it will do good but it's more about her fans than a real large audience !

so disappointed with sales...

I was in Shibuya's Tsutaya today and ayu's ASB stand was inside the shop, you need to go to the centre of the shop to see it while SMAP's stand was very close to the doors, so when you enter the first thing you see is SMAP's new album :/ and I was surprised to see that there's no buzz around her stand, it looked quite lonely you know...

well, those guys appeared on TV a lot, it's impossible to ignore them... ayu could do some promotion... I guess she just doesn't care about sales, charting and all that stuff.

I was kind of hoping for number one, but her sales look good! :) Go Ayu!

A SUMMER BEST is current #1 on Japanese iTunes. And You & Me is #5! Maybe the sales aren't so bad after all??

Not surprised here. Johnny's still are dominant, no way Ayu going to beat SMAP. But keep in mind that Johnny's don't sell music on iTunes...

at least it started selling more than Party Queen =)

I still think she should have released this in the beginning of summer. I don't want a summer mix two weeks into August. :no

You & Me is now #4 and the music video is #3. :) That has to mean something good for Ayu's sales!

Why do best albums sell so well?

Personally, I don't want to buy the same tracks again, unless they're significantly different.

^ because casual listeners will buy them to get all the hit songs in one CD, rather than buy multiple CDs for a few songs.

bad plan to release around SMAP. seriously... if you're gonna try and recreate something like Ayu v. Utada in sales, you'll have to promote harder avex!!! :thud



BUT, not bad sales.

Sales aren't bad for first day, but lower than what I expected for a BEST album.
Maybe the FNS performance will help increase sales? :)

Should have released You & Me as a single, it would have killed in the charts. It's the perfect summer tune and the Japanese would have lapped it up, they love their seasonal songs.

This was only ever going to be a release die-hard fans purchased. It would have never got her #1 against any kind of competition. And releasing useless BEST's is not Ayu's style. I wonder who was pulling the shots here. It's not necessary to package every new song in some kind of useless complilation.

Well, casual fans who like the summer songs but never really purchased the CDs may buy it as well. It's a mega-summer-hit collection and the tracklist is really well thought out imo.

I find that it's selling a lot more than I thought it would.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Ayu's No. 4 for singles (You& Me), and No. 1 for albums on Japanese iTunes. =)

Honestly, it's my opinion that Avex is desperately trying to change they way things sell, so that they have more longevity instead of just, everything in one day, and then nothing...

And I think they're really experimenting a lot with Ayu...but idk.

well even if the album doesn't got a lot of buyers, the song you & me seems to do quite good on the charts so I'm glad that she can still have songs/singles with good sales... I'm already looking for her next project but finally I'm satisfied with this one !!

I think seeing ayu doing really good in digital sales is better at this moment. Higher digital ranking means more casual listeners going for the album and the new song. I'm kinda glad that ayu has a stronger debut on recochoku this time. And rite now A SUMMER BEST is still no. 1 on iTunes, which is great.

Of course this best album aims for casual buyers, so physical sales should be higher compared to studio albums. We shall see (hopefully) a longevity and maybe a boost once the albums are in stock.

I'm a bit confused tho. weren't some members getting the album @ Shibuya Tsutaya rite? They said the ASB slot gained little interest... so is it out of stock in this location as well at this very moment...? Or is it the album just out of stock in smaller cd stores?

Tsutaya was out of stock in the first day, and it was making news all over the place lol I'm not sure about right now though!

All of them got #2 weekly (2011-2012's songs).

Do people really believe the album being out of stock is avex's fault? avex doesn't decide how many copies to send to stores, the stores order as many copies as they think they will sell. When something sells out quickly that usually means the stores ordered too little because they assumed the album would sell worse.

The stores should ask for forgivness lol. j/k

eh? out of stock? I bought my 2CD+DVD copy at Yoyogi in Tower Records on Aug 8, but then I went to Shibuya's Tsutaya and there were lots of ASB's copies. I came here today too and there were ASB discs. hmmm strange

I think I need to buy 2CD too, just to help sales

^i didn't find it a big deal since it was being released in late december...and she had just released all those singles so it made since. And Love songs was great...

Since Party Queen was originally supposed to be two albums there must be TONS of leftover songs. That in addition to the Xillia song...I could very well see her releasing another album in time for christmas.

I think 2010 wasn't the only year ayu releasing two albums at the same time. You can count 1999 (A song for xx, LOVEppears), 2002 (I am..., RAINBOW), 2006 ((m)u, Secret) as double album years as well. Of course, those January albums were practically released on the last Wednesday of December in the previous years (e.g., (miss)understood was released on Dec 28, 2005 instead). Also, the time gap between RNRC and Love songs was about 8 months, while the others are separated by 11 months at least.

But back to your question... I'm actually kinda used to ayu's hectic schedule (esp back in the early years). So if she's gonna release another album at the year end, I won't be too surprised.

I think she will release another album, her tour is about to end, and there is four months until the end of the year. We know she doesn't vacation for too long, so what else will she do in that time? Just buy wigs and shoes? I doubt it, she will probably release something small; I doubt it'd be a single though...plus, with her 15th next year, I think Ayu will want to sustain her record until then, because we know whatever she releases next year will earn the #1 spot. If she loses it this year, she'll have to start all over.

I'm putting my money on a Love songs situation.

If she release another mini-album, that would be counted as number 1 album right? (Having a new album would be amazing, but I won't another mini-allbum)

TBH I want to hear every song she's ever recorded, so she better put them all in an album or something :innocent
