Wow, that is kinda bad for Ayu... no matter how you look at it. Sure, one could argue it's based on who's voting and etc. and all the excuses, but look at some of those people above her... Lol. This is a vital point in her career and if she doesn't nail it with these next few releases, she will almost certainly seal her fate on ever making the comeback we all know she is capable of. It's strange to see that this is the reality of the situation regarding Ayu now-a-days. I never thought this day would come!

The only thing really sad about this chart is that Ayu is lower than people who aren't even active at the moment.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Even back when they started this poll in the mid 2000s, Ayu never placed very high at all. Her highest placement ever was like #16 or something in 2005. From what I can see in the rankings that I have found, Oricon Style subscribers are very set in what they like and what they do not like.
Past rankings - 2004 - cannot find/was only in the magazine, Utada Hikaru #1 2005 - #18, aiko #1 2006 - did not appear in the top 10, aiko #1 2007 - did not appear in the top 10, Utada Hikaru #1 2008 - #25, Utada Hikaru #1 2009 - #26, Mr. Children #1 2010 - did not appear in the top 30, ARASHI #1 2011 - did not appear in the top 30, ARASHI #1 2012 - #50, ARASHI #1 Oricon Style subscribers are just not Ayu fans and never have been. Back when Utada was active, she was #1 on the poll a bunch of times. Or maybe that was aiko... |
It's sad how many of the artists above Ayumi are embarrassing musically at best.

As I said in the other thread, their rankings are like, always the same. Always the same people.
And actually, I would think Oricon Style subscribers are much older. Older people also like groups like AKB48. It's not always the younger people driving everything forward. Especially if they have kids, and are buying kids the music, then they themselves hear it/start to like it, etc. Happens a lot. |
Considering Ayu's history on this poll, she is actually going through a peak of popularity xD

Although I've only seen 1 case make it to the press, the worst is those with alot of money in Japan and the time to spend following her and her staff. As nice as it can be for other fans to have them all communicating with fans online, it makes it easy on those trying to track down where she lives. This guy David I'm not sure is even what he seems, if he was I'd expect his photo on his twitter profile and when he mentions his facebook to Ayumi, I'd expect a link. People on Ahs have made false accounts before to send disturbing messages to Ayumi in hopes to make her hate certain others and I'm not completely ruling that out this time.

This David guy is a faceless twitter that makes me wonder if he's a disturbed former professor as it seems or if someone created an account to cause trouble again, like the SatanicAyu & PaellaNomNom accounts before it that did nothing but harass Ayumi and fans they disagree with. This being the 5th account I've seen harassing her, I don't blame her for avoiding fans on the last trip to this country. |
Sadly upon a google search, David Van Horn is actually a professor at a university in this country. It lists his office address and phone # with pics of his face & his license plate. If he gets threatening towards Ayumi, do not hesitate to call the FBI or the state police in Missouri.

^There are a lot of people with that name, an actor comes to mind. How can you be sure that man is the one who created the account? And if he threatens Ayu, its her job to deal with it. I have better things to do than worry about a rich celebrity's stalker.

He has the exact same name and job as what he described on twitter. He not only is a professor he is also in Chemistry just like his description of himself says. Anyway I asked a Criminal Psychologist in Japan who does profiles for the police in both Japan and UK to look into it and he's checking it out after work. If there's any problem he will know and he has more than a few connections in Japan.
