She did well! wish all the best for this release! maybe after 5 releases, there'll be a slight possibility for her to re-shape her popularity!

Damnn the numbers are sOOO close! I'm really hoping the numbers for LOVE won't drop too much tomorrow. I guess by tomorrow we will know if she will be able to get a weekly no.1 or not *finger crossed* GOOO AYU :)

Yeah arashi sold around 14,000 today and they already have 30,000 for this week so it's battle for the top 4 lol.

At this point Ayu will be lucky to finish the week in top 5. As arashi will most likely outsell her. JUJU's sales are usually very consistent or so they've been in the past.

Fans who care about chart positions are getting frustrated with those idols (Johnny's, including ARASHI, even though the members are starting to go to the 30s, as well as the young AKB48 girls) and other young up-and-coming musicians...

Her reign was over quite some time ago. You guys shouldn't be sad. She's had a great run at the top.

What were JUJUs first day sales? These are second day sales for JUJU right? I believe JUJUs were released a day prior.

No, those are her first day sales.

Pfff... Ayumi's sales are low... FIVE sold 50,000+ the 1st day...
Year by year, her sales drop more and more...

Anyway, to be honest I was afraid of BENI due to the long chart run of her previous cover album. It was selling mildly to low every week but had (and maybe still has) a very good longevity and chart run. I thought that people that steadily bought 200,000 copies would all together buy the follow-up cover album within the 1st weeks... Hmmm...

Sometimes people shouldn't think much.

Since it's her Anniversary Release I would like to see some Avex magic. haha

I THINK we should cross our fingers and THINK positively for this chart run! ^_^

I think they have the makeings of talent... but you lose some stuff when you are in a group that is not really about the talent, but about the novelty.
I have heard some of those girls sing and they are good... the same with some of the Johnny's.

In saying that, she has had some moments of gold with sales in her sales decline, for example FIVE, without any significant promotion. And pretty much all of her sales are coming off the back of small-scale promotion and her reputation, musical output and/or dedicated fanbase only, which is pretty impressive in itself.

LOVE is a pretty strong release, with her typical Ayu sound throughout which the Japanese love. Don't count out some sales magic yet.

I dont know... her reign really isnt over until this year... (unless she claims a number 1 this month or next)
She has still had the number 1 spot up to until this year... (manipulation by avex or not)
she hasn't been the biggest seller for some time, but that's a different story.

imo I did LOVE did better than expected on the 1st day . It's already known early that it would be facing competition from JUJU's 2 best albums & also from BENI's COVERS 2

Besides , ayumi already made it clear that this release of 5 back to back monthly releases are not done to get #1's but rather it's to thank every single fan of her for supporting her during all this time

With regards to ARASHI , in recent times their album selling power has strengthen a great deal . Wouldn't surprise me if Popcorn will hover in the top 5 in the 2nd week

Even their 1st best album All the BEST! 1999~2009 is still charting in the top 100 at this point in time (#69 to be exact) & it was put out 3 years ago damn :thud

They're only like 8k-ish above everyone else. Their weekly total right now is 30k while JUJU and Ayu's is mid-20k~.

It's been a while, but seeing her debut not at #1 anymore...hurts.

Edit: totally irrelevant and everything, but this post promoted me into being a NEVER EVER initiate while NEVER EVER was playing on my iTunes. This must be a sign.

30,303 for this week so far because their album came out last week so they get ONE extra day for this week.

Ayu has 21,743 for the week so far. How does that place them 23,000 ahead of Ayu? The copies ARASHI has sold so far is not 44k, but 30k.

So as of right now, totals are like this:

The (30,303) in parenthesis is a total of the sales from the day before and the 'current' day at the time. It's not an indicator of 'additional sales for the day.'

For example, here is AKB's single sales for yesterday:

They sold 8,568 for the day, but their 'total sales for the week' including their extra day which was 9,651 is 18,219. The 累計/ruikei next to the number means 'cumulative'.

For anyone wondering about JUJU. I think these sales are pretty good. We should be looking at about a 60-70k debut at 3/4 weekly.

As long as she can manage to sell 100k in the long run, i'm totally satisfied!

I think its a good statement of her selling power that she can sell so much with little to no promotion.

I guess Ayu's sales are expected, I mean, she is releasing a mini-album, that is much more like a single, in the same week that JUJU is releasing two full best albuns.
And considering that the difference between JUJU and Ayu's sales are not that big, I would say she's doing well...

Japanese people are not stupid ! a lot of comments on amazon jp critic the fact that release is a disguised single ... even if these new songs are wonderful it's a bit too much this time:(

a select view find it to be a 'disguise', but it seems to mirror what people on here say too... I'm not surprised that some fans fell cheated, but oh well. Their loss.

I think people need to get over it. It's a mini, plan and simple.

If she wanted number 1 she/avex could promote more the album and get above JUJU. But now I think she only want to sell what her fans want to buy, not over promote it and get people who in fact don't want the album buying it...
I mean, sales must not be the same for old artist that for new artist is.

That's the smallest 2nd day drop in sales I've seen from Ayu in a long time, but maybe that's because day 1 was not as high as usual.

Wow, the fact that Ayu's only using her name to sell this, i mean there's no promo at all, is remarkable, after 14 years and a half in a very diverse market.

But promotion is still necessary to make her relevant. I wonder what she's planning for the next five months.

As much as TOX is the best tie-in she had in ages, debutting at top 3 is really good for her. The more I see this, the more I don't get who says she's over or ~a flop queen~ though. But whatever lol.

As much as I love Song 4 u, Missing and Melody, they weren't worth standing at #1 place. It hurts me to say it, but this "mini album" has almost no content to qualify for a #1 ranking. Also, perhaps it could have reached higher if she actually got more promotion done? It seems minimal, previous album releases had multiple trucks with the album covers slammed on it (perhaps this time too), but we got those pictures before the release. I haven't seen any decent promotion so far for the "mini album".

But I don't think they were going for the #1 place anyway.

Not always. JUJU's DELICIOUS was not a high seller, especially compared to YOU and Request.

DELICIOUS was sort of an anomaly since it was a jazz cover album... and it was also in English? Either way, there are more 'hits' for fans of her in LOVE STORIES and LIFE STORIES.

Well, if they don't put the effort in, how can they expect results? smh :shrug

Wrong place to advertise as well - Ayu doesn't really appeal to Japanese teenagers of twentysomethings that live in Shibuya. Kinda weird how its the exact opposite when it comes to her western fans. Shibuya advertising would still work, but avex used to hit up other areas of Tokyo as well.

Not really even in taiwan she don't sell like she used to be I remember on the G music charts (taiwan) she dominated all the japanese release like 50% + but since 2011 she is at 10% maybe ...
