Ayumi ~ The Anything Goes Thread 5 ~

You guys know what to do: talk about Ayuma Hammysaki, our fav faded diva :)
Edit: fad*ing. She's not hitomi or seiko yet.

When she says that she's gonna bring a fresh sound, I want EDM. Just one album full. Rip off namie's album please.

ComatoseBunnySnatcher 12th July 2013 07:39 PM

EDM or straight up pop would be so good!

RAINBOW II, plz!

EDIT: Ewwww, Voyage initiate!
That song is ultra cheesy and tastes like diabetes.

It could be good but not just a Rip off of namie's album even if feel is pretty good it lacks personality IMO I don't want that for Ayu =)

terra 12th July 2013 08:34 PM

^^Diabetes :roflmao
I used to really like Voyage until the point that I saw it as bit of cheesy

EDM would be wonderful because we already got the usual conventional band instrument songs so far. I would like her to be take more challenges like hiring new composers outside of her comfort zone, creating new sounds she never or rarely experiments with. GEO's songs, Wake me up and Tell me why were nice, would like to hear new sounds like those in her upcoming album.

Surreal17 12th July 2013 09:53 PM

^Indeed, GEO's songs were a total phenomen! I would totally like a new drastic sound change like in (m)u but who knows what Ayu'll come up with.:rolleyes

NintendoHTF1242 12th July 2013 10:17 PM

I just want another rollin' and an interlude that sounds like the beginning of Pieces of SEVEN omfg yes

marty 12th July 2013 10:55 PM

You know, I actually don't have the faintest idea what she'll come up with next time. Like, rock, soft ballad, poppy, electro, dance, heavy methal, bho? Literally everything can happen right now.
God, I love this woman.

RealLight 13th July 2013 12:49 AM

It's been 3 days since I listened Ayu for the last time '-' yet, still singing her songs when I'm at work, good lord lol

Oh my goodness, please Ayu release an heavy metal minialbum like FIVE.
ayumi hamasaki featuring BABYMETAL in all five songs.

Lol just kidding :P. Actually I wouldn't mind if she release something rockish again. But not as messy as Tell All though.

ExodusUK 13th July 2013 02:20 AM

I wish her music was better

280301 13th July 2013 03:08 AM

I don't care what it sounds like as long as she basically eats and sleeps at the studio. Her music in recent years hasn't been horrible, it just sounds 'cheap'. Songs like Return Road would have truly benefitted from increased production.

marty 13th July 2013 12:07 PM

^
I kind of agree. Her songs keep being awesome anyway, but just a little bit more of attention, and work on the details would make a lot of them perfect.

TeamAyu2004 14th July 2013 12:08 PM

I would love an album filled with what's popular in Japan at the moment.... Minus anything akb or sister acts touch.

Just kill the ballads omg. Like we only really need one or two per album. That's enough! That keeps them special!

mizuki-7 14th July 2013 12:35 PM

oh Yes enough ballads or mid tempo I want all sort of uptempo with different kind of genre ^^

TeamAyu2004 14th July 2013 01:11 PM

Hontestly I think somewhere down the line someone told the girl or she just thinks that mid tempo or ballads are "mature"
Girl needs to get over that quick. If Cher can do it at 60 ayumi can do it.
Believe girl.... Believe.
Lol

Lol

That means being mature is a sad thing :| at best it's boring
Life is sad but is also fun, why stick to the sad only smh
And I agree, if Cher can do it Ayu can also do it

280301 14th July 2013 01:30 PM

I hope the next album is about music for the love of music so to speak. Not just songs that are for tour themes (Party Queen) or that are completely safe (LOVE again).

She needs to take more risks. :D

Kouyou 14th July 2013 07:33 PM

I want Ayu to be experimental again. Say what you want, Party Queen >>> LOVE again in my book. I liked LOVE again but it brought nothing new to the table. An EDM album from Ayu would be my dreeeeeam. :yes

kuri♥ayu 14th July 2013 11:50 PM

I didn't really know where to post this lol. So I was browsing Los Angeles Craigslist for Japanese lessons and saw this picture for Fuji school:

Isnt that Mannie lol?

emi♡ 15th July 2013 12:23 AM

^yeah I remember people posting it...I think his friend runs the school, or teaches...or something random.

And I think it's just the "Japanese" thing. When you get older, you start singing a ton of medium ballads. I just didn't want that to be her. And while we still have all the uptempo songs...there are still quite a lot.

Andrenekoi 15th July 2013 02:02 AM

It's not like some people wouldn't go all "Ayu is too old to sing those stuff, I wish she had aged more gracefully/gracefully took a bow and retired before becoming this"

:P

immature is flawless. I always forget how amazing the bridge is until it comes on, and then I repeat it a bunch. Love it.

I'm pretty sure LOVEppears is my favorite album.

emi♡ 17th July 2013 11:42 AM

immature is like the most underrated song ever~

lyrics are amazing, melody is perfect.

mizuki-7 17th July 2013 11:48 AM

YUKARI 17th July 2013 02:51 PM

I love LOVEppears too! though it used to be one of my least fav albums until 2009 or so

So I don't know if this is a dumb question or not... But does anyone know if Ayumi listens to her own music? (Like causally listens to it, has it on her iPod >>or whatever she uses<<, etc.) I know some artists listen to their own music so I was just curious...

marty 17th July 2013 06:38 PM

And Then forever and ever! <3 And LOVEppears is one of the best albums ever, even just because it's where Ayu mastered her "squeaky" voice completely, she's high pitched, but in total control, unlike somewhere in A Song for xx. It sounds so raw and honest to me.

As for Ayu listening to her old music..I know she made a comment (Twitter?) about watching back concerts...but albums/CDs, I'm not sure. I would say probably not in her free time, but perhaps they revisit her discography when looking for influence for future albums..? I've heard a lot of nostalgic themes in her last few works. But that's just speculation on my part. :)

Andrenekoi 17th July 2013 10:20 PM

^If I'm not wrong she just listen or watch her own stuff for working purpose... I would find strange to know about an artist that keeps consuming their own production... someone like that have some vanity problems IMO.

jean-baptiste 17th July 2013 10:49 PM

^A lot of people share that sentiment but I don't necessarily agree. If someone is consuming their own product out of narcissism then that's distasteful. But I could see someone wanting to hear a particular song they made because they have good memories associated with it or it makes them feel good for whatever reason.

I've never seen that to be the case though. Most musicians get tired if singing the same songs over and over...

pommy48 17th July 2013 10:53 PM

Sadly, I never felt the appeal with Days :no Except in winter, because I'm a sucker for seasonal songs, and Days is just a Winter Ballad Queen. I'm very grateful for the A Classical version though, I found it much better than the original, and I listen to it more often now!

kimmeh 21st July 2013 01:05 AM

I noticed that my japanese friend's friend had posted a few pics on facebook from the concert, and the text, "so happy to listen such a rare song..!!" ~ Any idea which song she means? Tell All?

I love remixes, but nowdays I'd like Ayu would look at Kuu to learn how to do it properly again. Kumi remixes are just the hottest. Ayu used to have kickass remix albums, but since few years ago she went very generic and boring, especially with the orchestral ones. But again had very good ones, now that I remember it!

At first I doubt the album because the tone of everything is kinda monotonous, like the whole album is tinted with pink all over unlike her previous releases but now it became one of my favorite thanks to its cohesive arrangement.

THIS
I thought Dlb was a boring PV until the climax revealed, and it was awesome!

Kanzaki 22nd July 2013 11:00 AM

^^
Yes. Microphone was just awesome in every little, quirky and odd way. Same goes for Slt. BALLAD even gave me a bit of a lump in my throat, despite the slight cheesiness. DLB was just amazing. And the songs, oh man, almost every one of them. I want more of them. Morrreeee.

I feel like, at some points, PQ was very similar to R'n'RC - it contained some serious greatness in the form of letter, reminds me (especially) and Return Road. Those were songs that could easily have fit in on R'n'RC. I want an album, filled with just that. I know it's not my birthday yet, nor Christmas, but Ayu plsss ;(

I love that you say this with a pink, fluffy Ayumi set :laugh But I totally agree. The mid-tempo/ballad era of Love songs to LOVE again has seemed to last forever, and although there's a few gems in those releases, I look forward to Ayu hopefully surprising us again with being experimental and going back to some pop-rock or EDM. :)

terra 22nd July 2013 12:03 PM

^I agree, this era is filled with mid tempo music and that kinda annoys me :no it's okay to have mid tempo, I love It was, but the amount of those kind between Love songs and LOVE again increased so much it bugs me because of its draggy-ness :(

Rock 'n' Roll Circus has some really amazing Pvs! If it wasn't for half of it being so out of place... could have been one hell of an album! Sunrise and Sunset, as much as I love them, just don't belong there, and meaning of love doesn't deserve to exist for me -.-
Oh well, it was a fantastic album anyway.

WHY, WIFEY, WHY. I was sitting here all "Oh dear, my set. Oh well, nobody's noticed yet." Of course it'd be you, to think of that, like I did :heart

I think Love Songs is a better album than I give it cred for -Usually my preferred word to use when describe it is 'poop'- and at that time, she hadn't yet had a very long period of only mid-tempo ballads going on. But right now, it's getting really boring, and very fast. So, yep. Need more of that headbangin'. Or not necessarily rock, just something that'll make me do a double take when I listen to it, and think 'wow'.

Listening to LOVE again for the second time through. When I first listened to it through, it was so boring. Seriously. These songs didn't stand out that much, but now that I listen to them again, I realize there are many good songs on the album after all. It's not one of my favorites though, but it's not as bad as I thought it was lol. :)

I think I would have enjoyed it more if it hadn't been so close to Love songs in her discography. I know we had Party Queen as the filling between the two, but the similar title, theme and photo-shoots just made it seem like one continuous era instead of two separate ones. It's a shame. The songs themselves aren't bad and one or two I still play quite often, but it feels marred by the drama that surrounded it...I'm not really sure how to express how I feel here, but when I think of Love songs I just remember the joy of her marriage to the sadness of her divorce; and LOVE again just reminds me of this Maro situation that still seems on-going. Her personal life overshadowed the music both times, at least for me. It made the in-love lyrics seem awkward and the music videos even more so. I just can't enjoy those albums fully like I can her others.

I'll kill for another album like Rock'n'Roll Circus, I wasn't a huge fan of NEXT LEVEL, but RnRC made me LOVE her again (so did Love songs). Was listening to the album today and wow, every song's amazing, I really hate the tracklist though (if Sunrise & Sunset switch spot, then it'll be better).

OMG I agree with allllll of this.

Don't forget we even had FIVE before PQ and it STILL feels like one long-ass era.

koumori 22nd July 2013 10:23 PM

I didn't even remember FIVE. :thud Whoops..

sugarbasil 23rd July 2013 12:22 AM

^I kind of forget that FIVE exists most of the time. :laugh

Someone mentioned And Then a few pages back, and so I had to go listen to it lol. I'm still not really into it. I really like LOVEppears as a whole album (I gotta admit that it's a very strong and comprehensive album), but I never listen to any of the songs on their own (save TO BE, which I just adore :heart).

Real me just popped up on iTunes. I was going to change it but then I decided to let it play. I don't regret it. I love this song and it's always been a bit of big deal in my life. :)

NintendoHTF1242 23rd July 2013 12:49 AM

I listened to the song, Duty, the other day and forgot how amazing it was.

jean-baptiste 23rd July 2013 01:52 AM

I give you permission to call me a bad fan. I never really read much of ayu's lyrics but I've been listening to her full albums while reading the translation and it makes a difference. You get a better grasp of each album's concept. And I know I'm eons late, but DAMN are her lyrics relatable.

terra 23rd July 2013 05:27 AM

^:laugh her lyrics ARE relatable, I never felt that way when I was still in middle school lol
But regarding her recent releases because I'm more active and get to hear the songs before the lyrics translations were in, I became focused on her music and arrangements than ever before, that's what made the rest of LOVE again unbearable for me :(
