Oh, that's pretty high. :) Congratulations to Ayu. I'm happy to see some other of my favourites in the top 20 as well.

~angel*ayumi~ 23rd July 2013 03:52 PM

I wonder why ayaka is not in this ranking, she has amazing singing voice.

Livey~ 23rd July 2013 03:53 PM

Not bad! Congrats ayu~! ♥

AyUmIXx 23rd July 2013 04:25 PM

wow ayu is 15th! congrats though.
yea ayaka..why not in the list..weird.

mizuki-7 23rd July 2013 04:32 PM

Even Misia is not here ... this ranking is more about popularity than anything except some names in that list like Ayaka Hirahara, Akina Nakamori and some others who are actually amazing but congratulation ! I'm happy to see Ayu in that list =)

MeltingCORE 23rd July 2013 04:47 PM

I'm glad that along with Ayu, many other singers I like charted! (I wish Lia was on this list, she has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. But she's not popular... U.U)

marty 24th July 2013 12:30 AM

Stated that this is about popularity only... Happy for Ayu, and a lot of the others on this list!

[H] 24th July 2013 05:59 AM

So glad to see this :) take this ayu bashers! and the gap between her and no 16 is quite big as well.

Props to Utada, Mika Nakashima, Shiina Ringo, and Ayumi Hamasaki! Some of my favoritest on the list together. >.< Yay!

It's sad though, because I can think of some female singers who aren't super famous but have really nice voices. I mean, there's Kokia, who I don't know how well known she is but she has such a nice voice.

Ayumi definitely deserved to be on that list.

Yeah, pretty much :P Nice that Ayu ranked, though. Her voice has been a lot better lately, and she works really hard to sound good despite her handicaps, which I think very often goes underappreciated :) So congrats, Ayu!!

Mari-chan 24th July 2013 07:21 PM

I'm missing Kokia.

toniayu 24th July 2013 08:20 PM

Pretty good!
I'm also happy because almost all my favorites singers are there as well ^_^

pimenta 24th July 2013 08:26 PM

15 is quite good considering that Ayu's voice changed so much over the years that it must be difficult to judge in general..

So true.

And there are a few that I really don't agree, but, oh well, opinions...

toniayu 24th July 2013 09:13 PM

^True...
I listened to the girl that ranks in 1st place and yes,her voice is beautiful! Not the most beautiful on the list in my opinion though.

that was my thought too actually!! I absolutelly adore her vocals. But she's very underated so....

Party_King 25th July 2013 04:03 AM

PLEASE WHAT!?

don't like their voice that much... there're enough better artists (voice sounding)

I'm missing BENI.

Who has like the best vocals ever.

Surreal17 25th July 2013 09:49 AM

I wish KOKIA would have made in the list. She has a really impressive and emotional voice. Glad for Ayu~

Ayus angel 25th July 2013 10:04 AM

i'm not hating on namie but ayu has a better voice

AyuWorld 25th July 2013 04:28 PM

Happy Ayu! And satisfied with Juju and Hikki too!

BlackSilence 25th July 2013 05:34 PM

i'm really glad that Ayu did make it in there cuz hr vocals now are not bad at all and she sounds lovelly in most songs. However, i realy went ">_O" with quite a lot of the names there.. Girls like Misia (even tho her stuff is not my cup of tea because i'm not a big ballad person), Kokia....BENI (i'm not even into her music but i checked a few songs and her vocals are really lovelly). I also for some reason really like Noriko Sakai's voice, it's just i dunno so femminine and so um japanese?lol

DonkeyKongRemix 25th July 2013 08:16 PM

Yeah, also, all of the singers from the FictionJunction project and Kalafina have beautiful voices. But, they aren't solo artists. (does that make a difference?)

But, Kokia! She definitely qualifies!! She has such magnificent control over her voice.

Kazeyomi 26th July 2013 05:54 PM

ayaka got a beautiful voice, but sometimes she tries too much imho.
KOKIA's voice it's outstanding though :heart I love how she can sing lovely peaceful songs and powerful songs without losing control of her voice. Too bad is so underrated. She's so talented :/

Btw, congrats to Ayu :heart according to the drama here, I expected she were dramatically low ranked lol. But #15 it's really good :yes

This!
seriously, I like most of Namie's music but honestly her voice is not that good.
She must be very popular in these days to be in this list
I think Ayu did a better work through the years, she worked hard and she improved a lot

TITANIC 27th July 2013 12:56 PM

Ayaka and Yuna Ito should have been in the list

Delirium-Zer0 27th July 2013 07:11 PM

Actually I think Namie deserves to be on there. Ever since about 10 years ago her voice has steadily improved, and by the time "Tempest" came out I was like "holy crap Namie when did you learn to sing?!?!?" XD

I do think ayaka should be on here, I'd have to see her sales but I would have thought she was popular enough to make a ranking like this. That said, her voice is definitely more western styled and this list does seem to focus on vocalists with more Japanese singing styles. More appealing to Japanese audiences, I'd imagine.

Nothing surprising about Miwa Yoshida being number one at all. Her voice has always been just lovely.

Minttulatte 29th July 2013 02:18 PM

I think Kuu and Ayu should be higher on the list, but oh well, no can do. :)

yoshino 30th July 2013 09:22 AM

I always think Ayu's voice is better than Namie's. =)

Andrenekoi 31st July 2013 06:39 AM

You must be a fan to believe either Namie or Ayu or Koda or (live) Utada have a wonderful singing voice. xD

Utada Hikaru had a great live voice during Utada United. Sadly, her voice started to sound damaged after that... >.>

(Even though my favorite album of hers came after that concert :syesyes)

She sounds Ok for half of it, but her voice goes totally downhill during Kremlin Dusk to never recover... That live of Kremlin Dusk is possibly the worst vocal performance I ever saw by a profissional singer. And I say that considering I follow Ayu and Britney! Haha! :P

tinka69 1st August 2013 02:12 PM

No ayaka...no utada...but Namie and Ayu are there? Yeah, there's something going on here haha.

pimenta 1st August 2013 03:18 PM

^ Utada is in 4th place...

True. That Kremlin Dusk performance started ok, but the end of it is awful imo

I don't really like Utada's vocals... It isn't bad on studio, but, I don't know, there's something about her vocals that I don't find pleasant... But that's me, I know many people love her vocals, so I'm not contesting her in this ranking.

I love Namie's current vocals. Her vocals from her peak were kind of awful, but now a days her vocals are great!

BlackSilence 1st August 2013 03:48 PM

i consider a vocal great if the singer sounds better live than on the recorded studio version. There's not many that can do that, sadly... With Ayu it's hit or miss, same with Namie i think, she's usually on the safe side with songs (i mean if I, random girl with no lessons can sing her stuff it's really not something super complicated and let me tell you i can't do Ayu's at al lol). To me from what i have heard the only person who can pull of live perfectly and sound better than on any record is KOKIA. That girl is gifted. But i love Namie and Ayu regardless cuz there are times when they blow me away with their performances. And in general i enjoy their vocals a lot.

Utada has very specific voice, i never was a fan of it, and i feel like lots of people might not like it, cuz it's very different and odd, i do enjoy some songs, but it always sounds so forced to me and unnatural, i dunno.

Yeah, I'm surprised Ayaka isn't listed...

mizuki-7 2nd August 2013 12:38 AM

Sometimes it is not debatable because it's obvious but most of the time it's just a matter of tastes ! You know sometime people don't dissociate beautiful tone/voice and the technical view ! For exemple a lot of people really like Utada's voice because she is beautifull (I like it) but in a technical point of view Utada is not so good ! but it's just an exemple we can argue for most of these names in this ranking except few who are actually amazing like Ayaka Hirahara !

DonkeyKongRemix 2nd August 2013 03:00 AM

Utada's recent performance of Goodbye Happiness is really well-done, in my opinion. I have always thought that she has a very wonderful voice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFkvLN9pt-k Here is the video I was talking about.

Kremlin Dusk is a very challenging song! (not to mention it turned out the stage was made out of cedar wood, which she is entirely allergic to.)

I think the truth about this all, like mizuki-7 stated, is that it's a matter of taste. Utada's been very well trained since she was a child. I think that she has a fragile voice and should not push it too hard. So, the first portion of Utada United was a good idea, but I think it proved that she needs to not take on so much in one night! Some singers are just made that way.

I'm sorry for my Utada Hikaru rant just now. >.< I actually don't listen to much of her music anymore, but she was the singer that got me into Japanese music. So... I guess she inspires me a bit?

As for Ayumi Hamasaki. I loooooooved her voice when she first started off. I know a lot of people don't care for her old voice, but I find it to be so unique and amazing.

I'm starting to get used to her newer voice, but it's taking some time for me. I love her music so much, though! :D

Anyway. I definitely agree that singers are truly more exciting when their lives are better than their recordings. Though, being a nu metal fan, I have to learn to live with the fact that screamers can only do certain things with their voice when live... >.> (because of the preparation they have to do to hit certain notes...)

Dream 2nd August 2013 03:53 AM

popularity contest. That list is so wrong in so many ways.

Yeap. I LOVE Hikki's voice, mainly her lower register that I find to be really sexy... But her technique is just plain bad, and unfortunately it shows a lot... The TV version of Wild Life is horrible and I really though the deterioriation of her voice had something to do with her hiatus.

Still, Hikki is my favorite musician ever and her discograpjy ***** on almost everyone else's.
