She's a Japanese-American model and singer associated with the Japanese musical act: Genki Rockets. She appeared in Genki Rockets' videos as Lumi and is also one of two vocalists providing the vocals for Lumi (the other being Nami Miyahara). She released her 1st single Best of My Love on July 3, 2013 and is signed to Sony Music Entertainment. Her debut single was used as the ending theme for the "Yamato 2199" anime series. New single announced! "Passcode 4854" 「パスコード4854」, produced by Kenji Tamai of agehasprings, release date June 4th, title track will be the ending song of an anime called "Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo R" (not sure if this romanisation is correct?).

New single announced already! The title is Mirror, release date September 3rd, the title track is once again an ending theme for some anime.
Aside from that, thoughts on Passcode 4854? I've come to love the single! I wasn't too impressed with the title track at first, but it grew on me a lot, it's a lovely summer song! I&U is also great, it's kind of infectious. One day is ok, it's a pleasant listen but not very memorable. I just wish I could find the instrumental for Passcode, I'm a hoarder... |
I thought we would get an album in September but I guess we'll have to wait until the end of the year. Passcode 4854 was nice, even though I preferred her other singles but the b-sides were quite nice.

Rei's debut album was officially announced on her Facebook page yesterday! The release date is indeed October 8th and the title of the album is Will. From what I can read from the announcement, the album will include all her single title tracks, including Let It Snow, and 6 new tracks, which include cover songs and "featuring" songs. (I guess they'll throw in some b-sides to round out the album.) The limited edition DVD will include her 5 music videos and bonus material.

The album is out! Will listen soon, I'm super excited, this is easily my most expected album of the year so far.
EDIT: No disappointments to be found here. :) None of the new tracks quite reach the level of Best of my Love or Brand New Day for me, but they are all good. Regret is a standout among them, it's a really different song for her and sooo good. The file I downloaded didn't have Heavenly Star though, I'm still looking forward to that. |
Will debuts at #8 on Oricon! A much better position than any of her singles had, I hope she can keep it up. :)

Will has been released on iTunes worldwide! I think this is great, not only for allowing people to purchase the album easily and cheaply, but it might also be a sign that Sony Japan is opening up to the world a little more and maybe music from their various artists will be more available to global fans in the future. Anyway, I hope this is useful for some people. :)

I don't know if this is far-fetched to say but I get an Utada feeling from her. Which is probably what caused me to gravitate so easily towards her music.

I bought the album in Japan and placed in my backpack on the flight home. Now I regretted not cushioning it with some clothes- there's a crack on the case. Sob. Hopefully the cd is fine.. Ripping it now to my phone |

I.ve started listening to the album in the order of the singles release and I have mixed opinions. Just listened to the first two singles so its too early to judge. But the thing is that I really like her vocals. Reminds me a bit of Ailee's. |

I hope you find some songs you like! I really love her first two singles. Best of my Love might have the flaw of running a bit too long, but it's such a beautiful song, her voice and the melody in the chorus are just bliss, and the signature piano riff is haunting in the best way. Brand New Day is still stone-cold pop perfection and nothing will convince me otherwise. :P The b-sides are really good too! Delight took a while to grow on me, but it's become one of my favourite songs from her. forget-me-not caught on immediately, it's such a fun, happy song. [end sudden gushing no one asked for lol] |

Tweedia is out already! I really like the title track, it doesn't wear thin on repeated listenings at all, but I LOVE my glory day, something about that song just gets me. :heart Better than her last single imo!

Ashitairo is a perfectly nice autumn ballad, but I find myself preferring the b-sides yet again. 1AM gives me some Forget-me-not / my glory day vibes, I love it. Lots of Love is her second foray into pop-rock, faster and catchier than Passcode, not bad at all.

Ok, I am officially excited! All the new songs sound great!! I'm loving the acoustic versions though Mirror and Ashitairo aren't even close to my favourite songs by her. 1AM is still gonna be the best track though. :P (Also, still bitter that my glory day didn't make it on the tracklist... IT'S SO GOOD THOUGH) This is being released next week, how did time go by so fast?! |
I finally got my copy of PRISM! I have to say, the visual design for this album is on point. The covers are great, the booklet actually contains MANY pictures, not the bare minimum like I feel some albums tend to, the sparkle theme is carried over from the cover to inside the booklet and even the album's title is reflected in the booklet photos, and everything is so pretty! Sparkles and rainbows everywhere! Even the discs look pretty!
I didn't find PRISM as good as Will, since many of the b-sides included just weren't that strong, but I have to say, the new tracks and the acoustic versions are GREAT. Still an enjoyable album, but I hope her next one will have more new content. :) |

Sunny is painfully generic, Rei's vocals are definitely the best feature of this song which is otherwise completely forgettable. bring back the colors is a really cool song, a different kind of ballad. The beat tries to take me back to the 90s but the acoustic guitar and pristine production keep it feeling fresh and modern. I really love it. |

I'm so in love with these releases. Every cover is fabulous and the songs are all really good to fucking AMAZING... I really like both over and over and dazzling tomorrow, I love Asymmetry (the production!!! this sound is everything!!!) and I'm just blown away by Not Enough... what a masterpiece of a song, one of her best and one of my favourite songs I've heard all year. Her art direction and styling and design are just consistently on point, she's been on such a roll with covers and promo shoots (well, aside from the last album...). Even the font choice stands out as positively in these new covers! And I love the weird-ass heels. :laugh And I'm really looking forward to the full version of the song!
