marcoba 23rd January 2014 04:49 PM

SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA is really good, sounds like an old Kumi song!!

Delicious n Bold 23rd January 2014 04:52 PM

Sounds like she's making up for the crappy theme by providing the goods sound-wise.
Exactly as I had hoped.

KLJames 23rd January 2014 05:06 PM

show me ur helmet... show me ur helmet... show me ur helmet... show me ur helmet...

orangeakira 23rd January 2014 05:40 PM

I'm never going to get over how TOUCHDOWN made it onto the album but Is this trap? didn't. I'd prefer it if both made it, but if I had to choose I'd rather have the latter. Of course, she does it with every album so it's to be expected. Show me your holla sounds pretty awesome.

AyuHamasaki01 23rd January 2014 06:37 PM

The new song is so good *___*

marty 23rd January 2014 06:40 PM

Ok, I can do this, I can wait for the full album leak to listen to the new tracks, it's not too far away. God, it's so hard.
I'M LOVING EVERYTHING FROM THIS ERA, YEASH. The cover are sublime, the new titles too, I can't wait, I want everything now.

ladyluthien 23rd January 2014 07:15 PM

I'm loving the new song. I played the radio rip in front of my husband and now he keeps singing "show me ya hollaaa...show me ya holllaaaa"
It's stuck in his head now LOL

Darkifrit 23rd January 2014 07:59 PM

Welcome back girl!

I become more excited by Bon voyage after hearing SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA!
Got a old school vibe of Kumi! It's quite refreshing!

Heavenly 23rd January 2014 08:28 PM

No full tracklist yet ?

Gustavopc 23rd January 2014 08:44 PM

^ Nop :( Probably Kuu recorded more than 9 songs and they may be deciding which will make it to the album and which will be on the next summer maxi single :innocent

happiholic★ 23rd January 2014 08:47 PM

OMG. COVERS. SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA. EVERYTHING. AMAZING. KUU YOU SLAY ME. I don't think its possible for me to love this woman any more than I do now. The CD Only cover is the best thing I've seen in a long time.

Minttulatte 23rd January 2014 10:09 PM

Gotta get that radio rip tomorrow. Now it's too late and my ipad's battery is low too. Damn, I just woke up my Kuu madness again. Yey. I was worried that I will lose it conpletely. I'm so excited now~ <3

tsumekaze_ 23rd January 2014 10:24 PM

I don't get what the hell a HOLLA is but I'll gladly show it to kuu as this song was fab.
GUDDO JOBBU GURL

toniayu 23rd January 2014 10:27 PM

I'll wait until the full album is released, don't want to hear anything yet. But the album seems to be really promising *_______*

emi♡ 23rd January 2014 10:50 PM

woooowww the style for Holla is totally unexpected.

I really don't understand how she or her team just pulls this shit out of their asses sometimes. So amazing. Where were you hiding thisssssss

Surreal17 23rd January 2014 11:02 PM

Don't really like the song although the instrumental sounds kind of good. It will probably grow on me.

happiholic★ 23rd January 2014 11:31 PM

^Could be a quality issue. It is pretty low right now. I tend to like songs better when they are in higher quality.

Isicio 24th January 2014 12:17 AM

I hate the song, nobody hate it too?

pommy48 24th January 2014 01:41 AM

SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA is just great... ♥

Bon Voyage has an option to be better than JAPONESQUE... but this is hard... so wait ^_^

i wanna order this just based on the covers/concept/goods alone, this is easily among the best of her album covers for me. soooo glad they kept it simple and didn't try to overdo it.

Zeke. 24th January 2014 03:45 AM

Only song I've really liked from this era, regarding the new tune.

Isicio 24th January 2014 03:45 AM

Yes well see‚ there will be better tracks anyway‚ from the singles I like Dreaming Now! And Go to the top!
And I can't wait to see how is the package.

Minttulatte 24th January 2014 01:25 PM

Wow, SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA sounds so different than I expected. That saxophone makes me think of Cutie Honey, Chase and Butterfly at once lol. :D It's a great song. I get a feeling it might be the opening song for the album. Those bells in the beginning are so epic. 8D

jiarongisme 24th January 2014 02:01 PM

So I guess I'm the only one who doesn't really like the covers? :shrug The can't take the CD only cover seriously :laugh

She looks great on the FC version though! :yes

Also, SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA sounds amazing!

Isicio 24th January 2014 02:07 PM

Not horizontal, Namie got horizontal one from Feel album

The covers are total hotness, i didn't think i'd like the plain white backgrounds but she completely makes up for it with those pictures, dayum!

SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA is rubbish though, it sounds unfinished and suffers from the same problem most of the songs from this era do, lost potential. Perhaps it's the quality of the song, i just feel like they could have done so much more with it. It's not that bad though.

I hope she brings it with some of the tracks we have left, TOUCHDOWN and Dreaming Now! are the only ones that got any replay value from me.

I'm more than aware of how unfinished TOUCHDOWN sounds, however it's saved by her attitude and delivery which is why it got any replays from me. SMYH just sounds half-assed to me idk :P

emi♡ 25th January 2014 12:59 AM

idk it's really hard for me to say it's unfinished when there's soooooo much going on in that instrumental lol I think it's not the most -flowy- of songs, but then, I think that's part of what makes it unique.

About her other songs from this era....I don't remember them :x bad kuu stan.

omg I also can't wait for the fanworks for these covers :heart

Beauty4123 25th January 2014 02:40 AM

I love the "Bon Voyage" covers! They are all so amazing, but my most favorite cover is the CD+LIVE DVD. :heart

I also just listened to "SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA" & it's fantastic! I really can't wait to watch the PV now. :D

maze 25th January 2014 05:51 AM

HQ covers thanks to kaled kalil :

Lady~Deviance 25th January 2014 07:14 AM

"SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA" has to grow on me. It sounds like a hodgepodge of Daichi Miura's "GO FOR IT" and other songs. The first verse and bridge grabbed me (built up nicely) but the chorus fell extremely flat as well as the rest of the song. I'll probably enjoy it more in HQ. :yes

Oh well, it sounds more interesting than anything else she's released this era single wise. :innocent

THIS SO MUCH.
And can I ask why people think TOUCHDOWN is unfinished? I do not understand anything apart from how flawlessly badass it is.

TOUCH DOWN unfinished? Lol. : DD That song is flawless as it is! :')

i'm super into HOLLA and the covers are crazemazing.

Gustavopc 25th January 2014 10:22 PM

I love TOUCH DOWN but I do understand the "unpolished" feeling towards it. I pray it gets an amazing remix on DH6.

It doesn't have a very exciting progression. It's the same mood and feeling the entire song through. No epic breaking point from verse to chorus. Very bland to me. It's just sooooo flat.

I would love for it to get a good remix as the arrangement is what is really lacking. Driving Hit's made masterpieces out of songs I thought were utter shit, like Heat, Bling Bling Bling, Poppin Love Cocktail, KOSOKOSOKO, and vastly improved on songs like Hey Baby!, Slow, Hot Stuff and Teaser.

ILoveGeniuses 26th January 2014 03:53 AM

^I ADORE the originals of ALL those songs. O_O

I don't think that's the same thing as "unfinished". When I think of "unfinished" I think of a demo, or a low quality recording still in the "working out the lyrics to the chorus" stage. Also it's originally JoJo's song so I'm not going to give Kumi the blame. :D

However, that aside, I definitely agree that it's kinda boring. I felt the same way with physical thing. The instrumental literally just sounds like the same 20 seconds looped for 3 minutes. If they threw in more sounds into the background it would sound more dynamic and built up to an awesome song.

Isicio 26th January 2014 05:57 AM

The best thing in summer trip is IS THIS TRAP? Touchdown is good but LALALALALA sounds just terrible like poppin love cocktail. I have the single & the cover is just her best with 4 time but 4 the rest is burn the money.

tenshi no hane 26th January 2014 11:45 AM

I translated her latest ViVi interview (scans here). It's quite interesting~

ViVi 2014-03 Interview Translation:
Spoiler:
Bon Voyage
Koda Kumi
Time to go on a new voyage

Although she is as sweet as always, Kuu-chan is now clad in the aura of an "adult woman". Feeling a change inside herself both as an artist and as a woman, she now aims towards a "new place".

It's been nearly 2 years. Kuu-chan will release her first original album 'Bon Voyage' since her return. When we asked the reason behind the album's title (which means 'starting on a journey'), she answered: "I think this album will become a turning point for me."

Laughter and tears – the things I have experienced so far allow me to go on a new voyage.

"14 years have passed since my debut. I was running like crazy the entire time. But recently I was finally able to stand still and take a look at my surroundings. And, when I faced myself, I felt that I have really experienced many things. While plunging forward towards one goal, I have met many new people and I have also lost many people in order to move forward. I have experienced countless fun things and I have also experienced a great amount of hardship… In the past, I often felt this complicated life of mine was hard. But now I feel lucky. When I first debuted, the backpack on my back was still empty. But my hardships have filled my backpack with "experience". Thanks to this, the backpack I carry right now is completely full. I've finished preparing for my journey. I recognize and accept the me who has worked like crazy until now, and I will now step into a new world confidently. That's how I feel right now."

She wants to journey to a new world. Having been separated from her music for a period of time played a big role in this desire.

"Until now, I had only been taking things out of my 'drawer' and it was nearly empty. But now I've had the time to put new impulses into my drawer. Thoughts such as 'I want to do this kind of thing' and 'I want to sing these kinds of songs' came welling up."

It was terrifying to overturn my image but I feel proud and I know I wasn't wrong.

The album is filled with new challenges, born out of the thought: 'I want to show a side of Koda Kumi that no one has ever seen before'. Her sound is more polished and cool. The woman who always sings about love has now sealed off sweet love songs (aside from Koishikute). She explains: "This album overturns the image of Koda Kumi that everyone has. This album required a lot of courage."

"But thanks to this change I am able to sing about a broader 'love'. This means some people might say that I have changed, but, to the current me, that is a good thing. My twenties was a period of trial and error. Having challenged many different things, I was able to discover the 'answer' and place it in my backpack. That's why I am not afraid of change. I am confident that my choice is right."

I've gotten room to breathe. I think I am now confident that I can be myself.

Calmly choosing her words, voicing her quiet determination… Kuu-chan exudes a mature aura as she answers our questions.

"I think I have gotten room to breathe. In a good sense. I stopped trying too hard. I've become able to relax."

When we asked her how we could feel like that too, she answered: "I think you need to have 'something' that you know will always be there."

"For example, it can be your work, your hobbies, love -- anything is fine. But you need the confidence that 'this is something I won't lose to anyone in'. Of course you can't gain this confidence without effort. I think people can change when they accept and recognize their past self."

When we asked whether her family also played an important role in this, she smiled and said: "That might be so."

"I think, in the end, people can't hold on without laughter. It's definitely true that the happy time I spend with my family gives me the energy to move forward. This album is an energetic, uplifting work, so please listen to it when you feel down. I'd be happy if many people will listen to it and hear the new me."

New album 'Bon Voyage'
Release date: 2/26
Her latest original album in the 2 years is a compilation of the various things she wanted to do. When asked to describe the album in one word, she answered "Cool!!" She has transformed into a cool adult. Be ready to hear a new Koda Kumi on this album.

She tends to say "please look forward to a new Koda Kumi" every time, but I'm really looking forward to what she has in store for us.

kaled kalil 26th January 2014 12:10 PM

Thanks tenshi, that was a cool interview! I feel this "new Kumi" thing is the way the album is, without many ballads e cute songs, like Amuro's FEEL.

Corvina 26th January 2014 12:16 PM

Great interview! Just love the metaphors she uses.
And I can totally feel the "new" Kumi for a while now, JAPONESQUE showed that already imo. Energetic songs, softer songs with messages beyond the standard love theme, less (cheesy) ballads, more confidence. I mean, just watch JAPONESQUE TOUR!!
She found her place in life with her family and finally accepted her past. I'm so happy for her. And proud!

Gustavopc 26th January 2014 01:05 PM

Thanks a lot for the translation! I also feel already this emphasis on her cool side, as we already didn't have a cute section on JAPONESQUE Tour and not even a cute song on Summer Trip. Pretty sure this album will be full of fun songs, if I was already ansious for it then now I'm crazy for it omg

ILoveGeniuses 26th January 2014 02:15 PM

Great interview. ♥♥♥♥♥ It's been impossible to miss the changes in Kuu's music and ways of doing things lately. She's really blssomed into a true mature woman and it's making me all the more excited to see and experience this next road of life she's heading down. ♥♥♥♥♥

Also while I never missed the cute section not being present in the Japonesque Tour I did feel it lacked in certain other things. I felt like it was rushed a tad and certain things felt out of place. I'm hoping the Bon Voyage Tour will be her best one yet.

Mhhh... all of this is very true, but do you think it was done on purpose? Because that makes the difference for me: if a song has a particular trait, it's important to know if it was meant to be that way or if they were just lazy (every reference to half od LOVEagain is purely intended, lol). Imo, TOUCHDOWN is just like that for choice, it has this "lazy" and monotonous feeling, but I think they created it deliberately.
I'm really trying to understand more about the work behind a song, about mixing and composing and editing, 'cause I really want to know if something was badly done and where. Of course if you don't like a song, you just don't like and that's it! XD I digress...

Thanks a lot for translating that, tenshi no hane!
Umh... As much as I respect her for saying a lot of truths in this interview, I have to say it: it's since Black Cherry that I don't see a different Kuu. Nothing she gave us for this album till now feels "new" in my eyes...
Kuu, babe, what do you mean?
Edit: I just read some answers before mine and maybe I understand a little more, lol. I need to watch JAPONESQUE tour.

Zeke. 26th January 2014 03:44 PM

Yeah, I'm sure the song was meant to be that way but doesn't mean I enjoy it. Could be better if they fleshed it out more.

thinkingoutloud89 26th January 2014 05:35 PM

I wish she would have scrapped the singles then...because none scream "new koda kumi" to me tbqh

Minttulatte 27th January 2014 10:49 AM

Oh hell, just give me the album already! ;___;

tenshi no hane 27th January 2014 11:03 AM

On the one hand I hope we'll get previews soon. But on the other hand I don't, because if I like them waiting will become more difficult :laugh

Minttulatte 27th January 2014 12:07 PM

^True that, but I'm already too excited for the whole thing. I can't believe it's been two years since JAPONESQUE was released! :0

do it again 27th January 2014 12:38 PM

thanks tenshi for translating!!! appreciate u

pimenta 27th January 2014 04:30 PM

Finally I listened to SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA and I loved it!! :heart
I have high hopes for this album, even if I don't quite like half of its singles, but I'm hoping for good album tracks, and it seems like it *-*

I like the fanclub and the CD only covers the best... I'll have to try finding the fanclub version for sale later, I can't buy this album before April >_<

ayu_ready? 27th January 2014 06:24 PM

the "new" Kumi thing makes me fear she'll become too relaxed and as a result - very boring
which I do not want

ILoveGeniuses 27th January 2014 06:46 PM

^I think she'll just stop doing those really sugar coated cutesy songs now. Also if she does do ballads I think she'll do more mature ones. I'm excited to see this actually. As much as I love A LOT of the Japanese music, sometimes the overly cutesy and corny stuff has gotten on my nerves from time to time. And while in my late 20s and still being a bit of both a geek and dork are things I must admit the cutesy and corny as all heck are still some things I'm not overly fond of watching.

toniayu 27th January 2014 08:36 PM

^I agreee with you. I don't like that kind of style except for some of the ones that kumi does, love technique is just awesome :D but I rather have more mature music

toniayu 27th January 2014 09:12 PM

Kuu is going to do a cover of Dreams come true and it'll be on their 25th anniversary best covers:
http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Music/Inf.../watashito/sp/
Artists like ai otsuka, miwa, Beni,SCANDAl are featured on this album.
Kumi will cover 'I'ts so delicious' and the release date is march 26th

ILoveGeniuses 27th January 2014 09:18 PM

^Nice. Only ones I really like on that list are Kuu and Mika Nakashima. JUJU's also not bad, but I'm not a big fan. I'm also not a DCT fan either, but Kuu seems to work miracles with just about everything she touches, which makes me very excited to hear this. :heart

Gustavopc 27th January 2014 09:29 PM

I saw on baidu there's gonna be a DH6 in March and it'll have two versions

ILoveGeniuses 27th January 2014 09:32 PM

^Seriously?!!

Soon enough Kuu will have as many Remix Albums as Ayu does at this rate. LOL

Gustavopc 27th January 2014 09:39 PM

^ Since 2009 she's been releasing one per year (I believe most if not all in March), plus Beach Mix :P While it's a big number of remix albums, I think ayu is safe enough, only ayu-mi-x had already four albums :laugh

Personally, it would be nice for me if she found a way to make songs like Love Technique that weren't superficial or vapid.

I mean, even with Love Technique, I felt like she could have not been so 13-year-old about having relationships.

I feel like it's limiting if, just because she wants to be mature, it means she can't have that sound.

KuuXAyu-fan 28th January 2014 03:17 AM

I'm a bit worried about the promo for the album. I really want to see her perform on Music Station again but she hasn't been there since Color The Cover and didn't even perform on the Super live for the first time since 2004. :(

Minttulatte 28th January 2014 11:07 AM

I don't want Kuu completely drop the cute songs tbh. I love those. They're one of those kind of songs that really has made me feel good because they make me happy when I feel down. Also, it's a part of Koda Kumi to me. It would be very weird not to have those kind of songs on her albums. :D

I couldn't have said it better. You're definitely right. :hi5

Delicious n Bold 28th January 2014 11:38 AM

I just wish she would experiment with new songs. She CAN sing and I think she's wasting her voice by singing her 'usuals'
More was a great song and I think she should go in that direction for a single or two.

Minttulatte 28th January 2014 12:39 PM

I think Go to the top was one of the most experimental songs Kuu has released in recent years. And I personally don't really mind these "usuals" being released either because no matter what she does, she always stands out for me. :p

Go to the top was definitely something new.
At first I thought it was boring and after a few listens I already took it to my all-time favorites:thud

And for the "usuals". I think it's good that they exist, because it defines her.
