Rate the new songs!

So we basically have the entire album now (and not even the album title yet). Let's rate the songs! After the album's released we can rate them again and see if our opinions have changed. :D

For now:

XOXO - 5/5
Angel - 5/5 (I'm sorry but that high pitched note at the end slays me)
Lelio - 4/5
Terminal - 3/5 (sounds like a stretched-out remix tbh)

Yeah, it's just unfortunate that even though I like half of LOVE again, the other half are so snooze-inducing and heavy it affects my entire opinion about it.

Lelio - 5/10 i can listen to that, actually....
What is forever love - 4/10
Merry-go-round - 8/10
Terminal - 2/10 (absolute crap.... i couldn't get through the whoe song, borring as hell, 1.5 for the vocals cuz Ayu sounds nice & 0.5 for chorus which is like the most decent thing in the whole song) i don't think i will listen to it ever again and i hope she never works with him again either. At least not for an original album.
XOXO - 4/10 good for fooling around, could serve as a background music.
Feel the love - 3/10 3 only for the melody the rest is bad
Hello new me - 7/10
Angel - 8/10 would have given it a 10, but it is a bit repetetive. However to me tis is the best out of the ones we didn't hear in full. Together with NOW & 4EVA.

I give everything 5 out of 5 except
Lelio: 3/5 the song is cool, but her voice is exceptionally annoying
Pray: 2.5/5 boring and extremely typical
Angel: 3.5/5 It was going somewhere with the slow dubstep breakdown during the chorus, but it was still really boring. Idk it's not just enough.

Hello new me 4/5

Terminal 1/5 :no (I had to stop it before it ended)

xLuna&1LOVE 30th May 2014 10:09 PM

XOXO - 3,5-4/5: Great song. Cute, lovely... awesome. Love it. Will save it for a single ladies drunk night.

Angel 3/5: I think it's a very lovely song, but I wonder for how long I will be able to listen to it.

Lelio - 5/5: I just need to listen to this one every day.

Terminal - 3,5-4/5: Gotta love Armin. This song is pretty badass, and something so new from Ayu! You can't say something awful about it. Won't buy it.

What is forever love - 3,5-4/5: Same as XOXO. Loving it. Great to sing along at a special moment.

NOW & 4EVA - 3/5: very typical sound.

Hello new me - 2/5: I just... no. This is so not me. Too... yeah, nah.
Pray - 2,5-3/5: I am so done with very slow ballads, but Pray has beautiful lyrics. It deserves chances to be loved.
Feel the love - 3/5: I heard this song too much.
Merry-go-round - 5/5: I heard this song too much as well, but still loving it.

Merry-go-round is my winner. Followed by Lelio. The rest is amazing too.
Such a promising album, I hope everyone could agree with that.

Feel the love - 3.5/5
I like it from the first time I heard it and it's really enjoyable, but I got bored of it really quick. Remixes are much better.

Merry-go-round - 3.5/5
It could be one of my favourite songs from Ayu, but VERBAL's rap ruined everything :( The beginning/bridge and verses are beautiful but the rest... no.

Pray - 4/5
The song is very beautiful and amazing but a little too long. And forgetable. And Ayu had too many ballads recently so I just got tired of them, though I know it can really grow on me but I need some time and Ayu has to stop making tons of ballads... we'll see

Hello new me - 3/5
Like I said - too many ballads. Typical Ayu ballad, but still nice.

XOXO - 2/5
Chorus somehow reminds me of some songs in between 2007-10. Dunno why. I'm a little disapointed after hearing the full version. Verses seem to be taken from Pitbull/J.Lo stuff

Terminal - 5/5
I just want to plug my speakers in and set the volume/bass/treble to full. And I want to buy even better speakers. Ayu's vocals could be a little softer (like in her earlier songs) but she still sounds amazing. And that "Kimi ni~"...

Angel - 4/5
Her voice can be a little annoying sometimes ("angiooooooh~Oooooooh~Oooooooh~") but it's a strong song and you can feel the emotions put in it. I just want to scream the chorus even with the "OoooooohOooooohOooooooooooh~", haha :D

Lelio - 5/5
I never thought Ayu would sing a song like this one but sometimes I wished she would. I think I played this song about 10 times in a row, and that's sick O.o

What is forever love - 4/5
The piano beginning is beautiful, and I love how Ayu's whispering words ^^ Nice duet with Naoya. I'd give it 5 however, but I'm almost sure I'll get bored of it.

NOW & 4EVA - 4/5
This album is full of nice beginnings, LOL. Chorus just screams "typical Ayu song", but I like it. I want to see Yo-chan playing guitar solo to this *^*

Overall, you can love this album or hate, but you have to admit it's a long waited refreshment after "Love songs", "FIVE", "Party Queen" and (especially) "LOVE again". And yes, after this album Ayu should change her direction again and make another "GAME" or "Talkin' 2 myself".
Ok I'm done, now I'm just gonna play "Terminal" one more time 'cause I'm already addicted to it and I'm going to bed. :D Oyasumi nasai~ ^^

It's a great song so I think it's ballad fatigue hehehehe. With all those amazing uptempo tracks a classic ballad feels out of place. Angel can be considered a ballad but feels perfectly the rest of the album.

For me it's just completely forgettable lol. Like they purposely made the most generic Ayu ballad ever. :P

channy 31st May 2014 12:29 AM

Interesting direction and I don't think they made it a typical electro-pop album. Not by any means. Armin's song totally stands out. I can't believe what he did for Ayu with "Terminal".

Feel the love 1/5
TK's composition is really weak in this one, and the hello kitty production does not do much either. Overall this song is a let down, and maybe the live performance can do something to it.

Merry-go-round 4/5
Beautiful, catchy, and haunting. Sad songs with upbeat tempo is what ayu does with perfect execution. Kudos

Pray 3/5
Quite nice, but generic.

Hello new me 3.5/5
Really comforting and relaxing. But sounds like a LOVE again left over.

XOXO 4/5
Cute and might be a hit to the general public.

Lelio 5/5
Insanely brainwashing, and I like how ayu can add her own flavor to such a producer-oriented title. Kudos!

What is forever love 5/5
Though generic, this is a very beautiful piece of music, and the lyrical content adds another layer to it. Like merry-go-round, sad songs+upbeat tempo is a killer for ayu.

Terminal 6/5
Reminds me of the days I used to love electronic music. This is not a typical EDM production you get from a pop singer like ayu, and I think Armin and ayu worked really well with this one. Especially for a heavily producer-oriented project like this one, ayu definitely brings her own signature to it with the lyrics, emotion, and voice. The way she sings it reminds me of some of her old ballads - with the strong and fragile voice and with almost no vibrato.

NOW & 4EVA 3.5/5
Quite nice. Ayu's signature.

Angel 4/5
A really pleasant surprise, from the initial preview to the full song, and I'm sure the PV and live performance would be good too. Although ayu does not necessarily have the Western voice to nail this song, she did it the proper way and the result is quite unique IMO.

Overall, 5/5 for the album.
It's really good that ayu tries this new direction at this point of her career. This really proves her capability as a pop artist, in terms of both the creativity and finance (lol). Good thing is that for the 5 songs produced by "big names", ayu brings her own flavor and/or Japanese sensitivity to it with either her lyrics or her voice.

And if the cover of XOXO/Terminal gives the theme of the upcoming album cover, I will be pleased as well. The setting and tone is the LOVE again mild color, yet the outfit and make-up is relatively fierce and strong/classy at the same time. This juxtaposition definitely fits her conception of the album which is to "outgrown WITH the typical ayu rather than leaving everything behind completely". IMO this is a rather clever move instead of putting up a really colorful package like NEXT LEVEL just to celebrate the EDM theme - which this album is not really about.

freedreamer 31st May 2014 02:46 AM

Feel the love: 3/5
Love the music but the melody can be even better. I got bored of it then I saw the concert and I kinda enjoyed the atmosphere so it's back on my list of songs that I don't mind to listen.

Merry-go-round: 4.5/5
Superb track! Also got bored of it for a bit then came the CDL's live and it was so awesome I found the love for the song again. Love the guitar, which makes it so mysterious and the song flows so well! The MV was pretty well done to me.

Pray: 5/5
Probably one of the rare few who love this song to death. It's one of the best ballads I have heard from her haha. Yea, I love songs like that. The lyrics of the 2nd chorus hit straight at the heart. It's long but emotional.

Hello new me: 2.5/5
I don't know how long I will listening to this. I absolutely love the verses but chorus not so much. It's still a light song to contrast with the rest of the album.

NOW & 4EVA: 4/5
Classic Ayu doing her thing. I like that this song sounds more polished and put together. The bridge sounds strong but not a mess. The adlib at the back is fresh. LOL i don't have much to say but it brings good feelings.

Lelio: 5/5
Ah this song is so amazing!!! It's the Kuu style I wished Ayu could do since Sparkle. Though there isn't much lyrical content but I totally love the atmosphere of the track.

What is forever love: 5/5
Stunning piece! DAISHI DANCE makes awesome songs like this with a slightly melancholic mood and I can relate to the lyrics of the song too! I like how Naoya is in this song actually. It helps break the monotony is Ayu kept doing the "What is forever love" herself.

Terminal: 4.5/5
This is actually really new from Ayu so I applaud her for this. I'm not always exposed to such songs so I can appreciate it better because the beats and melody are really dark and beautiful. This could be a really haunting ballad HAHA. Only drawback is the lack of much lyrical content.

XOXO: 3.5/5
Typical RedOne production but it's not a bad thing. I thing the lyrics can be better but I guess she wants to make it catchy. I really like the verses here too. They're kinda urban and edgy. I'm a sucker for those drumbeats. (She should totally do this with Shake It instead)

Angel: 4.5/5
I'm so stunned by this! It's so beautiful and I love it a lot. It has this hopeful feeling and I can really feel Ayu's emotions from this. Just from the simplistic lines of the chorus. You know it takes a great singer to sing the same line and emote so differently for each. Ayu did it here and the arrangement helps to elevate these emotions.

Judging by album, the flow and coherence may not be there but individually the songs have their own strengths :D

XD honestly i tried to give "Terminal" a 2° chance...but it was the same!
the song sounds like a track made it 15 year ago, the march base sounds so lame, noisy and bassless. even his remix of "appears" was way better. :tired

in the other hand XOXO and LELIO are my top favorite songs.

DevilHunter_04 31st May 2014 03:51 AM

XOXO: 5/5. It's a lot of fun. Lol. :P

Angel: 3/5. It feels touching but almost too cutesy for my tastes.

Leilo: 5/5. Love it.

Terminal: 1.5/5. Blah. Too much like generic club music. :no

What is forever love:2.5/5. I wanna hear a more high quality version but right now it's just ok.

NOW & 4EVA: 3/5. Kinda a boring song but I haven't listened to it much yet.

Hello New Me: 5/5. I relate a lot to this song and love it. :luv2

Pray: 3/5. Another ok song. It's starting to get a bit boring after a few listens.

Feel the love: 4/5. Another fun song.My mood gets better when this song come on.

Merry-go-round: 5/5. Same reasoning as feel the love but I like this one a bit better. Lol.

This album won't be very high on my list to buy.

Ashen Twilight 31st May 2014 03:52 AM

Feel the love - 3/5
I like this song simply for the melody. It has grown on me a lot. My bf says it's trash, but like another user said, it's nostalgic trash.

Merry-go-round - 5/5
This song is pretty much amazing and sets a great mood. I think VERBAL actually adds a lot to the song.

Lelio - 4/5
This is a fun club banger. Here voice can be a little annoying at points, but at other points it's amazing. Sure is catchy and I can see myself listening to this on repeat.

Terminal - 2/5
This track could have been so much. So much potential just wasted. I love trance, but this is soooo watered down. Sure it's haunting, but only when Ayu is singing, and that is like 1/5 of the time. I think it'll grow on me though. Hopefully.

Hello new me - 3/5
This is a nice, mid-tempo song. I love the verses, but the chorus is a little too much for me. It is catchy, though. I'll give it that.

Angel - 5/5
Emotion. That is all I feel in the song. Ayu does a great job at conveying that in this song, which is something that was missing on the majority of LOVE again. Sure, it's repetitive. Sure, Ayu's wails of affection can be irritating. But it all adds to the heart-stricken emotion pouring from this song.

Pray - 4/5
I don't know everyone's issue with this song. It's a nice, interesting ballad. It could be fuller, but the lyrics are <3. In this album, it's nice to have a little slowdown break.

XOXO - 4/5
I love this party jam. It's fun and inviting and easy to get stuck in your head. Perfect summer night song around a bonfire.

NOW & 4EVA - 5/5
I love my classic Ayu songs, so I am all over this. Great great.

What is Forever Love - 5/5
People need to get over Naoya. He actually sounds a lot better here than he ever did in Dream On, ANother song, and Why. Plus, it helps that you have DAISHI DANCE behind the production, creating another masterful and intricate piece of music. I love how Ayu and Naoya play off of each other. Good chemistry and great song.

AyuGAME 31st May 2014 04:16 AM

It's fun...happy and uplifting...not her best, but not her worst...and i can hear this song for a long time without feel bored with it...

Merry-go-round - 4/5
Haunting, love the melody...

Lelio - 5/5
The best song in the album..enough said...hope the PV won't be a let down...although i always prepare for everything so i won't get dissapointed...

Terminal - 2/5
I think this song will divide people opinion in two extreme side, like it very much or don't like it very much...i still need time to decide..but so far...i don't like it

Hello new me - 3/5
Very soft...easy listening...uplifting...

Angel - 4/5
Suprisingly the song is good, although i don't like the second verse..but the song is good and very different...

Pray - 5/5
Generic Ayu Ballad, but this is Ayu Ballad, that made me fall in love with her. I really love this song, too bad she didn't perform it on her new tour...and no PV for this amazing song is kinda sad..

XOXO - 4/5
I like it since the very first time listened to it...and i like it even more in full...

NOW & 4EVA - 3/5
Classing and retro vibe...i like it but not crazy about it

What is Forever Love - 3/5
I like the whispering part...also job well done on the duet part...but not her best..

Maybe everything is going to be mixed up after more listenings. But yeah, this is quite the album I was expecting after the not-so-much-liked-for-me LOVE again. This is quite the renewal I was hoping for her to do. And she did it majestly. :)

Really, people who don't like Angel, put it on a high sound and you're gonna be screaming and whaling like Ayu in the song. It's just awesome. hahaha

I'm gonna wait to review the whole album when it comes out. I've listened to all the songs and so far it lines up with Party Queen (which is in my top 3 favorite Ayu albums) in epicness. I'm not big on M-G-R or FTL, that single was whack. Ayu has done a great job, this album is WAY WAY WAY better than Love again. Shout out for Angel, Lelio, NOW & 4EVA

mellody 31st May 2014 07:17 AM

It's been a while since I'm doing this, I'm actually super excited.

Angel [2.5]
XOXO [3.5]
What is forever love [3.5]

Feel the love [4]
Merry-go-round [4]
NOW & 4EVA [4]

Lelio [4.5]

BEYOND GODLIKE 5+/5
Terminal (I would rate this more than 5 if possible)

One thing I realized, most of the new tracks will even more awesome during live. I really believe that. Songs like Lelio, Terminal, and especially XOXO probably will become the club banger, just listen to the beat and people go crazy.

A lot of people will change their opinion to these songs as well, just wait.
I might change my opinion of XOXO and Angel probably after listening to live performance.

BRB spazzing out to Terminal.

edit: I had high hope for Terminal but bit of a let dowm ..expecting something better coming from Armin :/
..why can't he do something harder for ayu like Who's afraid of 138

gogirlanime 31st May 2014 08:15 AM

K, never mind, it's so good I had to review it all now.

songs in no particular order.

Feel the love 7.5/10
The production and mixing of this song are nice, Ayu's vocals are what get to me. As much as Ayu will be my queen forever and as much as her high "iiiiii"'s are a bittersweet love all Ayu fans have for her I couldn't hate them more than I do now in this song, they're scratching my brain. This song has grown on me, first listen I gave it about a 6, there is something strange to this song to me that makes me not like it more and I can't put my finger on it. The instrumental sound effects and mixing just aren't to my taste I think, they're a little too funky for me. I like listening to this song but it'll never be a cult favorite for me.

Terminal 9/10
I can see why many were disappointed with this song, it does sound like a typical club / trance song, but I feel there is more to this song if you really listen to it. It is really dark in a way and the length of the instrumental parts add a loneliness to the song that is powerful and unique to me. Add lyrical translations to this mix too. I feel like this is what anguish would sound like if it could sing or be a song. This song brings me down to a level of pain. Not an Ayu masterpiece like BRILLANTE or M but it's awesome to me. I like the ambient and lengthy feel to it. This sounds like if Ayu would compose a remix for an Onitsuka Chihiro song.

Angel 9/10
Super addicting, the melody and vocals remind me of something Beyonce would do, it reminds me of her song Halo only Ayu-fied and better than Halo. The "angel" lyrical parts are unique and beautiful, purely depending on musical and vocal unison. The beat, vocals, and timing of this song is unlike anything else Ayu has done, a true original. I love it, it brings tears of joy to me!

Lelio 9/10
A bit repetitive but that is sort of its charm. The "Lelio" parts were mixed perfectly to suit Ayu's semi nasal singing style, because those parts are so well mixed you could listen to the "lelio, le-le-lelio" parts forever without getting bored. Even though repetitive in vocals the music layers and stacks intensifying the song, great stuff!

Merry-go-round 7/10
The rap parts ruin it… every time… No matter how many times I listen to it. I liked it in NaNaNa but in this song it's so bad. At least in NaNaNa it suited the song better. This song is more ambient and spiritual so it sounds more thrown in there. In some parts Ayu's vocals are nice and in other parts they are sort of bad. I feel like this song could have been so much better. If they had got rid of the rap, layered the music, and spent more time recording better vocals this song would have been gold.

XOXO 7.5/10
The lyrics are corny and thus so far I can't get over them :( I feel like the beat and melody are more typical and "been done" than Terminal, I feel like I have already been listening to this Ayu song for years (in a bad way). That said, I still like this song, it just isn't catching my love an attention like the other 5 songs. This is a fun song and it makes me happy, I know it will grow on me over time. It's those damned lyrics... ugggg... Ayu needs to be more careful with her English... sorry Ayu. The mixing and vocals are well done, nothing is annoying about this song, it's just a bit lacking in originality and substance.

Pray 7/10
Lovely vocals and over all a beautiful song, I just feel like this is soooooo "been there done that" for Ayu. But it has this hint of uniqueness to it and charm that makes it a bit better than her average typical ballad. The melody and vocals are like "how beautiful you are ~episode II~"

what is forever love 7.5/10
I really love the spoken whisper parts, it takes me to the sensual things Madonna used to do. I just really wish this song wasn't a duet. I've never minded him in the past and still don't mind, but I think this song would have been better solo. This song isn't terribly original in style but still original and not too typical of Ayu. The piano and vocals are gorgeous. I think the song is the best from the beginning of the vocal break till the end, the first half lacks a bit. I know I'll love this song more over time however it doesn't win my heart right away like Angel.

NOW & 4EVA 8/10
This sounds like a typical Ayu song, but in a good way, this is the one song Ayu has in every album of hers, a song that "sounds like an Ayu song" It's the intensity, layering, chorus, instruments and background vocals. This sounds like a lost track to the Duty album. Not terribly original but very satisfactory. This is the "classic Ayu" style song that needs to be on every Ayu album. This has the same feeling of "M" "reminds me" "Missing" "Key ~eternal tie ver.~" and "my name's WOMEN".

Hello new me 6.5/10
Too cutesy and very forgettable, this sounds like a bad leftover from Love again or Love Songs. Her vocals could be much better, this is obviously for her younger cutesy Ayu loving Japanese fans. I will probably only listen to this song when I'm on Ayu shuffle.

Angel and Hello new me are barely listenable to me, but other than that, the album is pretty good. It sounds fresh and fun and it's a nice change for Ayu.

Terminal- 8/10
Quite nice but a bit too long.

XOXO- 8/10
Good but chorus is repetitive. Love the verses.

Lelio- 10/10
Perfect. One of her best songs IMO.

Now & 4Eva- 8/10
Typical but nice.

What is forever love- 7/10
Not a fan of the guy but i like the song. Their best duo so far.

Angel- 8/10
I love her voice in it. Instrumental is beautiful too.

Hello New Me- 4/10
That chorus... I can't.

Pray- 10/10
Reminds me of Paris meeting. I was so obsessed with that song at its release.

Feel The Love- 7/10
Catchy beat and the chorus is often stuck in my head.

Merry Go Round- 8/10
I love it but i can't stand VERBAL rap in it. I only listen to the edited version without him.

Feel the Love - 3/5
I've been listening to this since I downloaded this. It's really catchy song though it wouldn't be my fave song.

Merry-go-round - 4/5
I love this song although there's a rap part within the song. Though the melody is repetitive, it's OK.

XOXO - 3/5
So western / K-pop electro pop kind of song but this is Ayumi Hamasaki so she nailed it! Who doesn't want to have fun?

Terminal - 2/5
I'm a "Connected"- type of Trance fan.

Angel - 2/5
A new kind of Ayu, again. But not my cup of tea.

NOW & 4EVA - 3/5
Just a typical Ayu song. It's good though.

What is Forever Love - 4/5
Probably my most favorite track in the coming new album. Melancholic, simple and ear-friendly. :)

I'm just gonna quote you because I agree almost 100%, Id give the ballads a lower rating, but Leilo and Terminal are amazing!!

Leilo - 8/10 (great beat, catchy chorus)
Angel - 9/10 (so, so good, what a chorus)
XOXO - 8/10 (also catchy)
Terminal - 2/10 (strongly dislike this song, Ayu's vocals save this from a 0 rating)
NOW & 4EVA - 8/10 (also generic sounding for Ayu, but far more interesting than Pray or Hello new me because it's what Ayu does best - rock)

Haven't listened to what is forever love yet, waiting for HQ.

Feel the love [3,5/5]
Wasn't really impressed when I listened to it for the first time and unfortunately watching the PV didn't make it any better (...) But the song is growing on me now (in a "You & Me" kind of way)

Merry-go-round [5/5]
Probably my favorite track on the new album. It's sad, I like the instrumental arrangement and the PV gives the song a special and cold, but pure atmosphere.

Pray [4/5]
Well it's a solid ballad. It reminds me a bit of "Voyage" (though they don't really sound alike).

Hello new me [1/5]
Actually I like these kind of "good mood" songs, but her voice sounds really strange during the chorus. I don't know if it's just me, but it really bothers my ears. I wanted to like it, but it will end like "Thank U" in the depths of my forgotten pc files.

XOXO [4/5]
It's a fun song, nothing special in my opinion, but in this case it doesn't really matter. I feel enjoyment by listening to it and I also like Ayu's pronunciation of "that's all weee~ need".

Angel [3/5]
I'm kinda bipolar about this one. The instrumental arrangement does a lot for this song and the "koko ni... koko nii~iiii..." part gives me life. I like her voice, but it will probably sound like uncontrolled howling to a non-Ayu fan in here.

What is forever love [4/5]
It's really beautiful and I feel huge sympathy for Naoya, eventhough I really disliked "ANother song" and "Dream On" (also his version of "Why..."). I just can't enjoy collaborations in general, no matter who it is. Anyway it works this time.

NOW & 4EVA [4,5/5]
Pretty cool and I like the rock/pop sounds, which bring along diversity and complexity. Although it can not keep up with similar recent tracks like "Tell All" or "Bye-bye darling" in my opinion. The ending is very cute though.

Lelio [5/5]
That beat is sick and I'm not ashamed to admit, that I love every second of it.

Terminal [5/5]
This song is awesome as well, although I can see why it does not appeal to a lot of people, due to its heavy instrumentation and rare singing parts. But I believe Ayu wouldn't choose a song for her album that is "just a remix". It shows another part of her and I think she wanted this song to turn out, like it finally does.

Yoake 7th June 2014 04:51 PM

01 Feel the love: 5/5 Great song with a nice arrangement that plunge me in a zen attitude. The sound is fresh.

02 XOXO :3/5 Well, when I heard the previews I thought that the song would be funny and dancing in spite of the chorus that are totally generic. Now that I heard the full version, I find it weak. There is a lack of energy. This song is far away to be as good as Wake me up for example. Maybe, it'll be better in live.

03 What is forever love: 5/5 Really wonderful. It's how a song that is elaborated by differents artists should be. This song is Ayu-ish but you can hear the signature of Naoya and Daishi Dance too. The balance between the piano and others instruments are really well-done. The whispering gives a plus to the song. The dialogue in the lyrics are well done.

04 Hello new me: 5/5 Pretty ballad as Ayu can do it. The arrangement is fresh, light and radiant. I particularly like when the guitar punctuate ayu's sentence in the verse. This song is like a sunlight that warms you after a hard blow.

05 Pray: 5/5 A splendid ballad with a true strength. It's really hard to find words to describe the beauty of this song. It's more than a masterpiece.

06 Angel: 2/5 Well, the full song is better than what I thought when I listened to the preview. The verse is nice but the chorus...omg it's just boring and too repetitive. It's surely the less inspired song that Ayu wrote in her career. Seriously, she couldn't find someting else then those words for the chorus? Moreover her voice is too modified in the chorus and too unnatural. Near the end of the song during the last I wanna be an angel, she just sounds as a haywire robot.

07 Terminal: 1/5 I never thought that one day I would said that for an Ayu song. Of course there are songs I like less than others but it doesn't bother me to hear them when I play my cds. Terminal is not only the worst song of this album, it's the worst song of all her discography too. The arrangement is awful, amateurish and old as time. The sounds are rambling. The only thing that saved this song from the bubble is the melody that Ayu sings. Yes, this melody is really nice and It's a Shame that it received that kind of arrangement. I really hope that Ayu'll do another version as she did for Ladies Night in the past. A progressive rock arrangement could make this melody epic! Or I just hope that she'll choose it for her next classical album and will give the arrangement that this melody deserves.

08 Merry-go-round: 2/5 Well this song is ok but I really miss the Ayu sound. So generic and impersonal. And m-flo/VERBAL should go out with its bad rap.

09 Lelio: 3/5 not good not bad. The song is ok to let your hair down. However it becomes quickly tedious and somewhat repetitive. It's why I can't play it again and again. Sometime I don't really like the way she sings. As for Angel, her voice is sometime too modified.

10 NOW & 4EVA 5/5 perfect light pop-rock song from Ayu with beautiful and meaningful lyrics. The arrangement is meticulous with piano violin and guitar.

Overall this album is really weak mainly because of the generic edm western songs. For me, it's even weaker than NEXT LEVEL. I was proud that Ayu didn't jump in edm train and now I'm sad. It's really a genre she doesn't know to take over. Or maybe she should work with people who are really able to collaborate with others without move aside the style of the other. After all, what is forever love is a good collab in which you can hear the signature of the three artists. I'll also ask to all american singers to go out of Ayu's body.
I'm really thankful that Ayu got a realisation in Paris and that she decided to give us song as Hello new me, NOW & 4EVA and what is forever love. Those songs save the album a little for me.

I actually think terminal is the track that compliments her voice the most, but the song is too long for my taste and there's too much of the instrumental parts. I think Terminal is the best executed song off this album though. As much as I like lelio, the vocals are perfect with the song throughout... same goes for xoxo. love the talking parts in what is forever love.

5/5 Lelio, Merry go-round - I love them

4/5 XOXO, Feel the love, Hello new me - Catchy and i like the chorus of Hnm.

3.5/5 What is forever love ?, NOW&4EVA - Not bad, I like them.

3/5 Terminal - It was really promising, but the full version killed the preview

2/5 Angel, Pray - Pray is so generic and long. Angel is so repetitive and awful.

XOXO - 3/10
it's catchy so hopefully people like it but i find it to be soo annoying. and her damn engrish its very lol-sy

Angel - 6.5/10
not bad! the engrish thing sort of bugs me and it was a bit bland at first but it kept getting stuck in my head. can't believe darkchild produced this. but ya not shabby at all

Lelio - 7.5/10
this is one of the songs i take with me after an ayu album comes out and listen to it regularly. so catchy and pleasing to the ears. i like her weirder sounding stuff like this

Terminal - 5/10
not bad but ya like a lot of people are saying it's not as catchy as I thought it would be

What is forever love - 8.5/10
wow i'm so shocked at how good this song is. that ANother song with this guy was terrible. it's a good r&b/pop song but her engrish really bothers me. it's not a big deal but it makes the sound of the words so akward when you hear it. im sure ayu will find some poetic way to justify the answer to the question: what IS forever love?

NOW & 4EVA - 6/10
this song, like identity and other similar songs, sadly get lost in the heap. not bad though, doesn't have much replay value though

Hello new me - 6/10
i like it as much as now and 4eva. a bit too happy for me, and i always crack a smile at the chorus cause of her engrish. i think her album goal was to try and prove some people wrong about her english speaking skills...

Pray - 7/10
very pleasant. kunio tago is my bae so i always hope he comes through well with the ballads. i just wish the chorus was catchier

Feel the love - 1/10
this song is so cringeworthy. ive already voiced my harsh opinion amongst you all, but for the love of god how does anyone listen to this without smashing their head into a brick wall

Merry-go-round - 4/10
an alright song. nothing special to me

overall a few nice surprises. there was a lot of love/hate. why da truck does she keep trying to sing in english. someone needs to bye felicia to ayu about this topic

orangeakira 11th June 2014 08:15 AM

going through this thread, terminal must really be a love it or hate it song.

Kanzaki 19th June 2014 12:23 PM

I actually stayed away from listening to any previews before the entire album was out/leaked, so these are all equally "fresh" to me. Idk if that in any way alters my opinion of them, but I like to think it makes a difference that they are all new to me.

-

Feel the love
I'd heard beforehand that this album was a bit of a dance-off. As this song opens, my head snaps up and within a minute, this album has already kicked off with a very catchy, dance-pop beat and Ayu's voice clearly singing 'feel the love - we can dance all night'. And there ain't nothing wrong 'bout dat shit, tbh. While I'm not blown away, I find nothing about this track I dislike. Ayu's vocals are strong, not over the top screechy-strained as they've been before and the melody's just above average.
5.5/10

XOXO
It doesn't slow down with this next track. A synthy-pop track starts, with Ayu's voice fading in - more catchy, upbeat english. "Girls just wanna haaave fun". Oh, gosh. Didn't dislike it in the 80's when Cyndi jumped around with that same message (in her thirties then, too) and I'm not about to dislike it now either. It just makes you happy, hearing something lighthearted like that to a catchy beat. It works. The japanese portion of the song really saves it from becoming overly repetitive - honestly, it would've done very well with more of her native language. Yet again, it's unremarkably catchy and fun.
6/10

What is forever love
Feels like roughly the same BPM, but this is a different genre - pop. Ayu is joined by a male voice in this duet and they do compliment each other very well. If not for the extra vocal in this track, I fear it would've fallen very flat. The melody is average, and honestly I'm very bored by the end of it. Ayu's english is cute in this track - "what is forever love" does make me chuckle a bit though.
5/10

Hello new me
I wish I liked this song, I really do. There's little to no build-up, but the chorus just still doesn't do it for me. Lovely message and her voice is fine (although not struggling per se, I really don't like it in the more high-pitched parts). This has both brought down the tempo and flow.
4/10

Pray
Sounds interesting as it begins, but it really starts to shine when the chorus comes along. There's no mistaking that feeling. This is a genuine, future concert tear-jerker. It sounds so bittersweet, it's slightly heartwrenching, and sure, I've heard melodies like this from her so many times, but...it has that unnamed Ayu-quality that makes it go straight to the repeat-list. The emotion in this is very reminiscent of a past Ayu, and I even think I can hear her peaking through at about 3:40 in this song. She proves that her voice still is strong here.
7.5/10

Terminal
Oh, goodness. We're in da cluuub again. This beat really is something. I'd say a tad more fierce that the dance tracks. It's like this holds an even bigger promise of awesomeness. I'm happy to hear her sing in a mellow-low key japanese that beautifully transforms into a higher pitched song. Starts to sound a lot like Last Angel, then has a beat drop like none other. Holy crap. Dat melody. Yeah, might actually drop my laptop if I keep rocking like this while sitting. There's a limit to how much she actually sings in this, but it's a good call; the melody speaks for itself. Wow.

Angel
This song starts and the dub-step influenced melody and her voice really could have worked. But it doesn't. The song is great. Her voice isn't bad. The way she sings just doesn't get this track up to where it belongs. It's like I can hear where she wants to go with it. I remember dancing my ass off to similar tracks where the artist really nailed the voice, but she falls flat here. It's a shame, because it's the one missing key factor that would've made this song amazing.
7/10

Merry-go-round
It's all slightly boring pop until the chorus where some male vocals makes it stand out a bit from some of the other tracks. It still doesn't quite get up to epic heights still, but nevertheless, a good song. I think the different elements could've been mixed together a bit more seamlessly.
5/10

Lelio
Isn't this Singlish for 'radio'? Ok, screw that thought, because this shit is fantastic. Repetitive, engrish, silly or whatever, I don't care - it sounds effin' great. So many different elements are in this song that were all present in previous ones, but this is perhaps the only one where it all blends together and really works. Yeah, I'm still not annoyed by this. In fact, I want more. Can I have a Lelio pt. II please?
10/10

NOW & 4EVA
a pop track - a genre which I don't feel like she's done too well on this album, yet this begins and immediately catches my attention. That's nothing compared to my very audible 'ohgodyes' by the time the chorus kicks in. There's just power and conviction to it. Plus is sounds nostalgic. The good kind of nostalgic. And yaaaassss, the guitar riff. Isn't an Ayu pop-rock track without the riff. Ok, my day is now complete.

Wow.

Angel : 8.5/10 : Yeah such a sweet/sad melody and her voice is good too. It’s better than my expect from the preview version. And yes, the only disappointing thing is the simple PV. Ayu is pretty, she will be better with the long hair... the background is cool but the dancers with the simple repetitive dance are unnecessary, I wish they only appeared in the second and the last chorus ! It would be nice if there was the wing sounds after the end of the song.

Feel the love : 9/10, the song is very good and from December, I can’t stop to listen to it. The performance in CDL made me say “WOW”. PV is my disappointing again. The single version is fun but I need to watch her with DJ hello Kitty more; the album version is meaningful and not bad but i can’t love it !
Hello new me : 7.5/10 The beginning is sweet but the chorus are annoying :( , I think I should say thanks to Ayu for not making PV for this song caused I can’t image how more terrible she would be in the cute style... LOL

Lelio 9/5 : I can say this song is the masterpiece of the album. I love this song although it’s repetitive. The PV is not bad with the colors-changing background. Her white outfit is ok, nice but the black one should be changed
Merry-go-round 10/10: Yeah, Beside FTL, I really love this song and PV from the single released. With the new PV version, I can’t stop loving this song. The song is depth , Ayu is so beautiful with the white short dress (she used to wear it on the Song 4 U performance in Heyx3 2012) , I can realize the meaning of the lyrics from the PV. The appearance of VERBAL, the city at night shot is nice ...

NOW & 4EVA 8.5/10 : Classical Ayu as someone said before. This rock song grew on me on the first day I heard it. It reminds me Return Road and is this LOVE

Pray 8/5 : It’s good but the song is too long that I get boring when enjoying so many times. The melody is very classical and I can’t believe that Ayu skipped this song in the PV-making list and the live tour setlist. Hope for the performance in a-nation 2014

Terminal 7/5 : Ayu singing part is good but the song is too long with ONLY music. It seems to miss the lyrics ... I wonder what Ayu would do in the performance of this lyrics-lacking song

XOXO 8.5/5 : How good is this song. One of my favorite track. On the first time, I really want to dance :) . But the PV make me dieeee. Ayu is so terrible, I wish she and Licco could change the outfits. The outfit from PV Lady Dynamite is better so far. I hate her sexy dance but love her funny fight with Licco.

What is forever love 9/10 : Naoya and Ayu is the good partners, their voice are great and the song is wonderful. The piano melody is nice and I wish to have the PV even if that is the remade from ANother song. Hope for the appearance of Naoya on the final day of tour and the DVD/BD

Feel the Love 10/10: I love this song. I love the melody, love the arrangement (so what if it's "outdated", it gives me everything I want), love Ayu's voice laced with tenderness and thrill... Love love love I feel the love. :heart

XOXO 6/10: This song is average candy: it tastes sweet and sometimes it's a great treat, but you won't really remember it and keep coming back for more when you could have chocolate instead.

What Is Forever Love 8/10: This song just keeps growing on me! I'm a huge fan of DAISHI DANCE and at first this song disappointed me because it's not really his best work... but it's still a solid track, which I keep discovering whenever I come back to it. The melody in the chorus is dangerously infectious and the vocals are reeeally good!

Hello New Me 3/10: It's been a looong time since I've wanted an Ayu song out of my ears so much. Pretty much everything about this song bugs me. I love a good sunshine song, which this one seems to try being, but it sounds soo phoned in and uninspired. At least Ayu's vocals are nice.

Pray 7/10: I want to like this song, it's quality work and so on but... she's done this song better before, and this time it's just a bit too slow and unmemorable and lacking in big, recognizable characteristics.

Angel 6/10: Another case of "I want to like this more but...", this time because wow could this song use some more production, Ayu's voice sounds like it's just awkwardly hanging on top of the arrangement, which I think is too sparse. The melody is really nice, but this song still sounds like a demo.

Terminal 10/10: I kinda feel like I should maybe give this song a slight point reduction because I'm still not best buddies with the weird changes between the gentle vocal sections and the hard-hitting instrumental sections... but what the hell, this is still the best song on the album, Ayu's voice is just unbelievable, the melody (when it shows up) is amazing, the emotions it brings, ugh.

Merry-Go-Round 9/10: I really enjoy every part of this song, and I'm not even getting it mixed up with JASMINE's HERO in my head, yay!

Lelio 8/10: This song doesn’t do that much for me, but damn it goes hard, I do like that.

NOW & 4EVA 6/10: Wow, Ayu is really going through them motions. At least she sings this with some passion, but the arrangement does nothing for me, and the song sounds more like a cheap GUILTY leftover than anything worth paying attention to.

1. Feel the love - 8/10
Awesome dance song! And I'm totally in love with the dance breaks. It'd be so awesome if it was on DDR, lol.

2. XOXO - 6/10
I like the instrumental but...idk the engrish just doesn't suit well for me here. It's an okay song that definitely could've been approached better.

3. What is forever love - 7/10
Gosh the piano at the beginning of this is epic. And Ayu's vocals at the beginning and the whispering were great too. But I feel it would've been better off as just an Ayu song instead of having Urata Naoya feature in it. Their vocals blend really well together here though. Much, much better compared to the last two songs they did. I gotta say, it still kinda irks me how Ayu never put "feat. Urata Naoya" lol.

4. Hello new me - 5/10
Verses are good, but the chorus is meh. I got tired of it after a couple of listens. A very typical Ayu song that could just as easily been inserted into LOVE again.

5. Pray -10/10
Ohoho yaasss. This is the ballad I've been waiting for. It's just so raw and emotional and powerful. And that ending, ufff. But seriously, this song just gives me so many feels. It certainly has that "old ayu" vibe to it and her vocals are just superb.

6. Angel - 7/10
Like XOXO, I love the instrumental but I think she overkilled on her vibrato in this song. It's still nice though, and I really commend the high notes Ayu hits towards the end.

7. Terminal- 10/10
BEST. SONG. ON THE ALBUM. Holy crap. Words cannot DESCRIBE how I feel about this song. Sure, the beginning may be a little redundant and long. Sure, it may be another generic EDM westernized song and sure, it sucks that more than 85% of the song isn't her vocals. But the lyrics. The tone of her voice, the emotion she screams when she belts out "irenai." Wow. As I've seen someone mention on this thread, Terminal is a very, very dark song with a theme and atmosphere that can be easily overlooked if not heard closely and read in between the lines. "Terminal" itself means the end of something or something leading ultimately to death (not just an airport LOL) and Ayu's vocals with the instrumental make the whole song sound almost painful and as if she's in agony. God, I can write essays on analyzing this song lmfao, but TL;DR: It's on the verge of epic. Best dance song from Ayu probably since Connected.

8. Merry-go-ground - 9/10
I always loved, loved, loved MGR when it came out. It's very melancholic and Verbal's rap added a very nice touch to it. Like Pray, it gives me a whole lot of feels.

9. Lelio - 7/10
I think the chorus is what really turns me off from Lelio. The song has so much potential but I just keep hearing "achoo" and it won't leave my head...

10. NOW & 4EVA - 7/10
Song is lovely but it's something that, again, could've been inserted into LOVE again. Ayu's goal with this song was to bring back her old style though, so I commend her for it.

OVERALL I think the album is pure awesomeness. Not as great as her oldies of course, but Ayu's definitely on the right track. 8/10 for me.

I really want an acoustic version of mgr with just that guitar strumming and maybe some violins, or something ethereal like the opening and guitar part of Namie Amuro's Alive.♥

I still wish they did a stripped down version of Last Links. The orchestra version wasn't bad but it didn't do the original song any justice.

So, after listening to this album many-many times I've changed my mind a bit.

Feel the love - 8/10 for studio and 10/10 for live version.
This song is really fun and catchy, it'd stuck in my head for a while. But! The real pearl this song becomes when it's performed live! PVs suck though :no

XOXO - 5/10.
I have mixed feelings about this. Her Engrish doesn't bother me at all, but I can't help feeling this entire song is just a third-rate leftover. It's not the appropriate song for the artist who has "Sparkle" in her discography imho.

What is forever love - 6/10.
It's nice and flaws well but... is there anything else I can actually feel about it? Period. It's better than ANother song, but worse than Why...

Hello new me - 8/10.
Ooh, it grew sooo much on me. It's gentle and delicate, a song "Love songs" could have.

Pray - 8/10.
Heartful ayu-ballad, nuff said. I just lack a bit of epicness or a pinch of grief in it.

Angel - 9/10.
Her vocals here seem weird to me sometimes, but I enjoy it much overall coz' it's a fresh-type ballad from the master of ballads. I'm looking forward to "Angel" live perfomane hoping to rate this song 10/10.

Terminal - 11/10.
Here comes the DOOM, the HEARTBREAKER, the SOUL CRUSHER! It's so dark, it's so emotional, it's so adultly sorrowful I can feel real physical pain in my heart. Ayu, how can you slay me so brutally?!

Merry-go-round - 8/10 for studio and 9/10 for live version.
I wish there're none of those awful and useless rap inserts...

Lelio - 9/10.
Hey, what's that - an awesome piece of ayu-lyrics? Wait, no, it's not... An example of beautiful and sensate melody? Nope... Ah, I get it - it's a meaning-empty radiokiller catchy as hell.

NOW&4EVA - 10/10.
This song is a quality mark.

Overall "Colours" turned out to be a pretty solid album and refreshing experience in ayumi hamasaki discography, it's a pity there's no proper marketing campaign. I'm just a bit sad and disappointed with lack of creativity within this release (PVs, covers, coherent delivery included) so I can't call "Colours" album a work of art like "Rock'n'Roll Circus" almost was.

P.S. Why don't we play the last surviving song game anymore? :(

Corvina 26th June 2014 10:55 AM

Feel the love - 4/10
Not my kind of EDM. Though catchy and I can listen to it compared to You & Me, which I totally dislike.
XOXO - 8/10
Fun and catchy. The break is too short. And quite bad Engrish, but nevermind.
What is forever love - 6/10
Such a nice melody and vocals, but it's kind of cheesy and repetetive.
Hello new me - 6/10
Biggest case of wasted potential. The verses are great, but the chorus....
Still quite nice to listen to.
Pray - 5/10
Suffers its length. And I actually can't remember how it sounds. Though it's calming, that I still know.
Angel - 2/10
Hm, I just can't seem to like it. The composition is pretty simple, but Ayu's voice isn't able to carry the song.
Terminal - 10/10
Just perfect for me, especially melody and her voice!
Merry-go-round - 7/10
Hm, I like it, I like the atmosphere, though it's something missing for me to be great. Don't know what.
Lelio - 9/10
Another great song. Her vocals aren't that good, but she's having some attidue. Love!
NOW & 4EVA - 8/10
Biggest grower on the album for me. I just don't like the break that much before the end.

Overall, even with the songs I don't like, the album is well produced.
I appreciate that. And there are a bunch of songs this time I'm going to replay a long time for sure!

NintendoHTF1242 6th July 2014 04:11 AM

Okay so after spamming the album for quite some time

Feel the love - I didn't think this song was all that the first time I heard it. But it gradually grew onto me. This is an EDM sound that I don't think anybody else in the music industry could pull off. That's why I like it so much. It's catchy and DJ Hello Kitty knew exactly what he/she was doing with the production work. 4/5

XOXO - Even though this song has the typical RedOne flair going on, Ayu still takes it and owns it. Very catchy song and the production work is top-notch! 4/5

What is forever love - I love DAISHI DANCE's productions. So I knew already that I was going to love the shit out of this song. Urata and Ayu sound PERFECT in this track! I absolutely love Urata's vocals in this song. He needs to make more music like this. Perfect track. 5/5

Hello new me - I can't stand this song lol 1/5

Pray - This song grew onto me a lot! One of Ayu's most gorgeous ballads. Love the part near the end that sounds like the piano chords in HANABI. 5/5

Terminal - LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT! But Ayu's vocals are a little unbearable at times... But holy shit when she sings, "Kimi ni..." <3 4/5

Angel - My second least favorite song on this album. It's pretty much Wrecking Ball but with different vocals and music layering. Ayu's voice is just unbearable at this point. I do give her some credit because the chorus is catchy. 2/5

Merry-go-round - This song sparked my interest back into Ayu when it was first released last year. Gorgeous, flawless song. Acoustic version soon, plz Ayu. 5/5

Lelio - This song is on fire! And I constantly fucking sing it every single minute of the day someone send me help. 5/5

NOW & 4EVA - Run-of-the-mill Ayu pop song. Really bland, tbh. It's a good album ending though. 3/5

I ended up loving this album a lot, which doesn't surprise me because I was really interested in all the producers she decided to work with on this album. It was a great change-up from that peach pastel + ballads bullshit she was putting us through. Ayu should definitely look into making more tracks and maybe even re-use some of them (looking at you Armin and DAISHI DANCE).

My only complaints are Hello new me/Angel; and the transition from Pray into Terminal is awful.

monochrome99 6th July 2014 05:30 AM

Feel the love - 2/5 I never really liked this song from the beginning, still don't. I think the execution of the EDM genre here is very amateurish. The repetition of "Feel the love" is also not very pleasant.

XOXO - 3/5 Sounds like a cutesy Ayumi song but with an EDM twist. Kinda like the modern day glitter or Beautiful Fighters. I enjoyed it, but I see myself getting bored of it.

What is forever love - 4/5 I was thrilled when I first heard that DAISHI DANCE would be involved in this album, although I did not expect this song from him I think it's a beautiful song. It has a nostalgic feel to it and the way Ayu & Naoya's voices blend is perfect. Great Duet.

Hello new me - 2./5 ...Why? The song is very lackluster, typical ayu mid-tempo, not bad, just not good enough. I get why her and her team put this song in here though, because it was a top 10 (hit?) on digital charts and because it was a theme song for a drama, but it just throws you off. I don't think I'll be listening to this

Pray - 3/5 Another digital single with mediocre success which is probably why it's here. Awkwardly placed after Hello new me in an EDM album. Slightly better than Hello new me, but also very typical ayu ballad.

Terminal 5/5 PERFECT SONG TO ADD after that SNOOZE fest. Saving grace, I mean up until this I was like "where's the EDM ayu" Great dance song, this is how you do it.

Angel - 4/5 ...I actually really liked this, I'm not as bothered by her singing as much as others. I think she does a good job here.

Merry-go-round - 3.5/5 I hated this when it first came out, I was disappointed since I loved m-flo and always wanted them to collaborate. Surprisingly it grew on me so much with time. I can now fully listen to the song without cringing.

Lelio - 5/5 This song though! another saving grace for the album. Just excellent, I don't need to elaborate.

NOW & 4EVA - 2/5 This song along with pray belong in ayu's 2004 discography. It's ok but it just sounds dated...a part of me feels like it was recorded a while back but was used to fill space in this album :/

Overall I give this album a 3.5/5 :) had a lot of potential to be a cohesive EDM album, but 3 songs pretty much killed the mood of this album.
