Last Minute Lyrics

Official lyrics aren't out yet, so I can't guarantee I got everything right, but I'm pretty sure I did.
edit: Based on the official lyrics.

Quote:

Last Minute

Parts of you leave me one by one and I feel cold
It hurts, as if a piece of my body has been ripped from me

Craving someone, hating someone, trusting someone
I live with the scars I caused in the end

You think these are our last words, don't you?
I don't want hear even a second of those
Once you turn into a memory, you exist inside me forever
And that's the cruelest thing there is
Give me myself back

We still smiled sweetly at each other
When we could still see a tomorrow
We knew there is no such thing as forever
But we didn't feel the end was near either

Fading into the night, dissolving at dawn, I lost my heart
I want to forget everything so badly that I can't see even say goodbye

I don't want to know what your last smile looks like
I'll pretend to be sleeping and then disappear
I want to be loved, yet I can't love anyone
I know you have…

You think these are our last words, don't you?
I don't want hear even a second of those
Once you turn into a memory, you exist inside me forever
And that's the cruelest thing there is

I don't want to know what your last smile looks like
I'll pretend to be sleeping and then disappear
I want to be loved, yet I can't love anyone
I know you have noticed
Japanese lyrics
Spoiler:

Memorial address part II, I'm pretty sure this song isn't about any lover.

BlackSilence 17th December 2014 09:23 AM

^ that's what i thought. It really sounds very much like MA.

Ayumi Romania 17th December 2014 09:31 AM

yamadashun 17th December 2014 09:59 AM

maybe the song itself is not meant to be like MA part 2, but the lyric is relatable.
and this song is really cool!!

PS: the first 2 lines remind me of GAME, though.

Thanks for the translation.

Delirium-Zer0 18th December 2014 03:13 PM

I did my own translation of this one... Some of these lines have multiple ways you could translate them, and the result is that the song is a bit vague and hard to understand, and I think how each of us interprets this song is going to be very very personal.

I read the lyrics and I got much more of a feeling that this was about Aneki. It feels like Ayu may have been considering suicide in the past - and I don't think that's out of left field; I think songs like POWDER SNOW, NEVER EVER, Secret, and a few others sort of hint at suicidal thoughts too - but having resolved not to do it, she sees Aneki's suicide as a betrayal.

Grief over something like suicide is a very, very complicated thing though and I could be completely wrong, of course. But that's the impression I got.

Quote:

One by one, parts of you take turns
going away from me, and I can feel how cold it is.
The pain is just as if, somewhere in my body,
a section has been plucked away.

I searched for someone, I hated someone, I believed in someone.
All it did was inflict wounds that I'm going to have to live with.

Are you thinking that maybe these could be last words?
I don't want to hear that sort of thing, not even for one second.
In becoming a memory, you become eternal
And there's no bigger con you could pull than that.
Give me myself back.

There was a time when two of us smiled cutely at one another,
still able to see the future.
We understood that there was no such thing as forever, but still
we had no sense of how close the end really was.

Slipping away into the night, then melting in the morning, my heart was lost.
I want to forget it all so badly
that I'm not even capable of saying goodbye.

I don't want to keep remembering your last smile
Pretending to be asleep, and then disappearing
"I want to be loved," I wished,
unable to love anyone myself. And that, I know, you...

Are you thinking that maybe these could be last words?

In becoming a memory, you become eternal
And there's no bigger con you could pull than that.

I don't want to keep remembering your last smile

you noticed.

Wow, it's so poignant but making sense a lot..

Thanks for providing this ^^ really good job! can I just point out that "憎む" translates to "to hate, to detest"? So I'd translate the "人を求め人を憎み" part to "craving people, hating people" literally. Thanks again for the hard work ^^

Delirium-Zer0 19th December 2014 12:47 AM

It IS translated as "hate" in my translation, are you referring to the fact that I put it in past tense? The line ends with past tense so I went with the whole line being past tense in general, though that may or may not have been her intention.

Oh, I really like your approach to the lyrics! I think it's a really good interpretation.

Tsumekaze was refering to my translation. I made a stupid typo, replacing "hate" with "hurt".

Aderianu 19th December 2014 07:36 AM

beginning of Last Minute remind me of untitled for her 2
so ayu Aneki's suicide theme is also nice guess

Some very powerful lyrics. I love it :)

Thanks for the translation

hayasaki 28th December 2014 12:13 AM

I interpreted these lyrics differently I guess. The first time I read the lyrics, I thought of Ayu's decreasing fans. Especially on the part when she said as if a part of her body is being torn away.

Ayu once said that her fans will serve as her left ear during those years. she needed them most to continue singing. And one by onr they start to go away.

We may think that Ayu is maybe aware of her decreasing popularity. Perhaps she doesn't mind it either. But who knows, if you may look upon things, its a bit sad after all. She might be over the lime light, but there might be times when she misses those days and this song is an embodiment of that occasional sadness.

Just my opinion though lol

Delirium-Zer0 28th December 2014 06:29 PM

Ooohhhh. And the fact that this song is called "Last minute" could imply it's a sequel to "count down" too, which was a rock ballad as well... it really lends some validity to your thinking there! I'm wondering if the whole song is just about how hard it is for her to cope with any loss, since it really does seem to jump from perspective to perspective and from story to story the more I look at it.

One of the coolest things about Ayu's lyrics back in the day was that they were often so specific that they were vague, and listeners could take the real-world things she described and apply them to their own experiences and feelings and thoughts, interpreting those specific things in a very different way... I haven't seen a single interpretation on this thread that I would 100% disagree with. These interpretations are actually fascinating to read.

Man, Ayu hasn't had lyrics as good as the ones on this single in a looooonnng time.

roseghostly 10th January 2015 11:00 PM

these are AMAZING! musically, last minute was my automatic favorite off the single (what's better than rock ayu?) but these lyrics...wow, just powerful.

also, i agree with the memorial address comparisons. watching the cdl performance with the ballgown and the pained gestures, it really harkens back to the MA performance..i wonder how they're connected?

roseghostly 21st February 2015 01:37 AM

i still can't get over these lyrics..they really pack a punch! :D

adelaiise 15th April 2015 06:24 PM

Thank you for this translation.
Ayu didn't make lyrics this great since a long time...

Last minute reminds me of old songs too, but more of GUILTY than MA...
