Ayu to be "correction support officer"
Hi! Just saw exciting news. I don't have any translation and barely understand what is going on ^_^ Anyway
Ministry of Justice chose Ayumi Hamasaki, Atsushi from EXILE and 12 other celebrities to be support officers. Brief summary of what the articles say:
She together with EXILE's atsushi and that other guy whose name I won't bother to translate or look up have been appointed by Japan's ministry of the Justice as a special "support" team with the aim of helping prisoners. Supposedly they will have to work on shaping a new system which can help with the rehab of the convicted. This is big! congrats ayu! With the aim of making Japan the safest country in the world for Tokyo's 2020 olympics, this team will work on improve and rehabilitating those who committed crimes and similar. When told about this ayu answered enthusiastically that without a doubt she would do it. Because it is her first experience, she is currently starting with studying firmly (the system, the institutions, the problems who face those on rehab and after rehab etc) and then she will start to think what she can do. edit: the team apparently is composed by performers entirely. Others who are part of it are rakugo storyteller Katsura Saiga, Korokke (A comedy talent), singer Natsukawa Rimi, singer MAX, female duo PAI x 2. Also actor Ishida Junichi, AKB48's Takahashi Minami, the ex gold medalist for speed-skating Shimmizu Hiroyasu, Professional sumo wrestler Takanohana Koji are part of the team even though they were absent from the cerimony |

I'm really, REALLY happy to see Ayu doing something like this. It's been shown through statistics all over the world that focusing on rehabilitation in prisons rather than punishment, and treating prisoners like human beings, reduces re-offense and recidivism rates immensely. Ayu and these other entertainers - and the Japanese government - are literally making the world a better place in a real, tangible way by doing this. AWESOME. :D

I love that picture when she receives the thing, she looked excited and cute, I rarely says she's cute but this is just cutesy plus she's petit lol I hope she can help the inmates, because Ayu had undergone a lot and sharing what she do during those hard times can help people. Wish I don't have to go to jail just to have Ayu as my counselor |

This is very admirable of her :) Proud to be an Ayu fan right now. These sorts of programs are the right way forward for handling incarcerated offenders and that she signed up to help so enthusiastically says a lot.

This is a little random but really great at the same time. Good for her! She really is one of a kind as far as music artists go. But I have to admit, her working as a correction officer is having the opposite effect on me. I'm thinking of ways to commit crimes in Japan just for her to ~punish~ me :mischief

Correct me, when I'm wrong, but isn't Japan already one of the countries with the smallest criminal rate?
And what can an artist or a singer (everybody having a great life with lots of money and probably not one single bigger problem, to sum it up more or less, exaggerating) actually change for a criminal? How can they help them? Or the system? Japan has bigger and wider problems, such as a high suicide rate, social and gender imbalance, sexual harassment and so on. Would made a much bigger impact, if they tried to improve something about that with the help of some celebrities. Really. this feels like such a PR stunt (especially cause it's for Olympics) and I don't know if I like that Ayu is part of that. I'm not that naive to believe it will change anything at all. But maybe this is her and Avex intention, to cause some good promotion and help her image. Idk. Just read that Ryōtarō Sugi, a celebrity, who seems to be somewhat the leader of this "program", is doing this for years already privately. Now this is highly admirable. |
^if one of them is already doing it, why not include more? I imagine, like ayumi said, she'll have to do a lot of learning about the situation, etc.
I highly doubt she's there to talk to prisoners about her latest Chanel bag or that they would just have celebrities do something without at least trying to make it effective. People publicize a lot of things which they don't have to. But to me, if the outcomes are still nice, then I don't really see the concern. |
