Can you believe the L single is almost 5 years old?

Just months away...let's discuss the single that gave us two of (in my opinion) Ayu's best songs of the past decade....Last Angel and Virgin Road? Both songs are just :love:love:love:love Even Sweet Seasons has grown on me over the years. Such a perfect single and the best way to end nearly a decade of contious frequent singles. :love

Beauty4123 17th May 2015 01:17 AM

I personally can't believe how many years have gone by...with all of these singles/albums! :rubeyes I feel like it was just 2008, 2009, 2010...it's crazy. :dlol But ayu's music just never gets old! I'll always love the whole "L" single, but especially "Last Angel". :heart And then it'll almost be 5 years since "Love songs", too! Where does the time go?! :faint :laugh

YES! I can't believe it myself...I think a lot of people will start recognising Love Songs as one of Ayu's best ever albums this year...of course the majority of us knew that from it's release..I won't hear a bad word about it, the only slights are Blossom and Sweet Season x

Gustavopc 17th May 2015 01:23 AM

tbh the whole Love songs era seems so far away for me... Not that it has aged badly, it's just that things during her marriage and even after it was so rushed and full of things that it seems like L came out a decade ago

lol I've actually loved "blossom". :P but "Sweet Season" is the kind of song that grows on you, after some time. While it's not my most favorite song by ayu, I still like listening to it whenever I get the chance. :) There's absolutely no denying how amazing of an album "Love songs", was, though. :luv2 I just loved that whole era (and the "Rock'n'Roll Circus" era) so much! Oh what a year, 2010 was...:love

NintendoHTF1242 17th May 2015 02:45 AM

I honestly can't believe it's been five years already. L came out when I was still in high school lol.

Cahz- 17th May 2015 03:50 AM

2010 was my first year as a fan. I remember I was begging for Ayu to record another epic dance song like WHATEVER or And then and then (lol) boom! she released Last angel. Last angel became one of my favourite songs of all time.

Delicious n Bold 17th May 2015 04:07 AM

Yes, I can. Time flies.

revolution9292 17th May 2015 04:55 AM

VIRGIN ROAD WAS SO EPIC!

Earth_maiden 17th May 2015 07:38 AM

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long! My best friend brought me the CD when he was in Japan and it's still a cherished keepsake. Virgin Road and Last Angel were absolutely epic when they came out. :luv2

chronos 17th May 2015 10:11 AM

I can't believe NEXT LEVEL is over 6 years old. I took a 4 year break from Ayu right after NEXT LEVEL so it still seems somewhat new to me in a weird way. I wish I had seen 2010 it sounds like it was a good year.

attractive nausea 17th May 2015 10:16 AM

It's been so long! I started listening to ayu in 2009 but it's only when MOON/blossom was released that i became a "real" fan, that year was awesome from start to finish (well minus the CDL 2010-2011 that i didn't like at that time and i never tried to watch it again since then)

Party_King 17th May 2015 12:46 PM

Yes!
I thought about Rock 'n' Roll Circus' and Love songs' 5th anniversary just a few days ago...
Awww all these sweet memories are back... 2010 was such a special year for me! ♥
my favorite song from this year is crossroad for sure...
Until today this song is in my top-3-ayu-songs ^^

BTT: the L-single wasn't ever a big deal for me and against the forum mainstream my favorite song from L is Sweet Season!
Not that I hate Virgin road or Last angel, but Sweet Season has this optimistic/nostalgic feeling for me which I need sometimes...
Virgin road + PV is a milestone in ayu's discography for sure but i never felt this song as a whole - sadly :(
and Last angel? I was bored as hell when I saw it on PREMIUM SHOWCASE ~Feel the love~ setlist and even on Rock 'n' Roll Circus Tour Final ~7 Days Special~ and COUNTDOWN LIVE 2010-2011 A ~do it again~ I can't stand it's positions after Microphone and Duty...
I like Last angel but I just can't stand it for live shows... :(

When L single first leaked I downloaded it in the morning (around 5am) and went to my MA exam, I still remember how nervous I was while listening to Virgin Road, I was trembling at the bus stop, it actually calmed me down back then (a little bit)

orangeakira 18th May 2015 07:37 AM

I'll never forget what a milestone the L single was, and how disappointed I was when we found out that they had no special plans for the single such as packaging, extras, bonus songs or anything. The posters were literally just 25 single covers floating around on a black piece of paper. They actually split it up into two posters rather than doing a mosaic tile for all 50. My signature had more time and effort and artistic style put into it than those posters.

Bigtop 18th May 2015 09:34 PM

Last time Ayu got a #1 single. And since then, LOVE songs, and then the great East Japan earthquake and tsunami...and no more Ayu #1 singles. :(

Time sure goes really fast.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 20th May 2015 01:35 PM

It's a great single, but I don't think they're two of the best songs from the last decade, by far.

This does make me feel old af though.

pimenta 20th May 2015 02:05 PM

wow... 5 years already? I didn't even notice it was this long ago! Now that I think about it, the single came out during my last school year, which seems like forever ago now, but this single doesn't seem old at all for me, this is kinda weird haha

I guess the long time she spent without releasing singles makes L not seem like it is so old, specially because the single is so good and the songs aged really well. Though sometimes I also can't believe how many years have past since I became Ayu's fan, it's been nearly 10 years! Time goes by too fast.

oaristos 20th May 2015 03:44 PM

Time surely flies. That was a great era, I remember being shocked after listening to Love songs for the first time, such a beautiful record.

koumori 20th May 2015 05:27 PM

I still remember when it leaked and being so happy about how the songs sounded in full. Really doesn't feel like five years ago :dead2 But Virgin Road is still one of her best recent ballads for me. Last Angel... it doesn't sound as good for me as it did on release, but it is still a nice addition to her discography. I just think it would sound better with her current vocals.

TeamAyu2004 20th May 2015 08:00 PM

That whole era was amazing. It brought me back into the 'fold' and I became a huge fan again. lol.
I will forever love L and Love songs.
I actually still listen to love songs when Im feeling down. It has a way of lifting you up.

orangeakira 20th May 2015 08:34 PM

I remember when the single came out and someone online said that they didn't like Last angel because they "didn't like techno" and I wanted to rip their face in half because of how stupid that comment was. Last angel has a prominent beat so that makes it techno? If that's true then that means Inspire is gospel music because it has an organ in the background during the chorus.

Chris85 26th May 2015 02:28 PM

I can't believe it's that old now. I was in love with Last Angel, sent it to my friend and she loved it as well. I was singing it and Virgin road all the time back then:-) I still love Last Angel.

chocopockymaster 26th May 2015 02:32 PM

I still love the studio version of Last Angel, but dear god I hate her live performances of that song SO MUCH. EVERY SINGLE ONE. It's just so awkward with her standing around half the damn song while her backing vocals are playing over the speakers.

I have a lot of really intense feelings about this

I didn't like the fact of her not singing first halves of verses, but they are not so long, so it's ok. I got frustrated though when she didn't sing uh, lalalai parts live in Until that day and also omitted yeah-yeah parts in the end of (Miss)understood in current tour.:-)

chocopockymaster 26th May 2015 02:59 PM

But Last angel is not a song that lends itself well to choreography so when she isn't singing she's usually just standing around waving her arms as her dancers do shit and it makes her look like a damn fool. We've had to suffer through enough performances of it already, and I don't want any more.

tsumekaze_ 29th May 2015 03:52 PM

I became a fan around rock'n roll circus release. L was the very first single I was anticipating, it was the first one that was to be released after I had became such a big fan of ayu. It will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember being amazed by virgin road.

AyumiAi 2nd June 2015 06:46 AM

GAHHH <3 time went by so quickly!!
Virgin Road still gives me goosebumps every single time!
and I remember not listening to ANY of the previews for Love Song and getting my album in the mail, closing my lights and just listening to it with my big head phones and spazzing at every single track.
I did the same for A One <3 it reminded me a lot of Love Song era for me

So good
