Koda Kumi just finished her first Japan tour in two years the other day. She also just played her fourth solo Taiwan show, which she has played for 3 consecutive years.

Koda’s flight into Taiwan was changed due to a typhoon on the day before the concert. Many fans still gathered at the airport to greet her.

http://img.en.barks.jp/image/review/.../kodatw3_s.jpg

Koda raised the energy of the crowd when she came out to “POP DIVA”. Her 25-song setlist was different from that of her Japan tour and included “Ai no Uta”, “WALK OF MY LIFE”, and “Poppin’ love cocktail, feat. TEEDA”, which are popular in Taiwan.

Koda brought an audience member onto stage as she usually does. The lucky audience member requested that Koda sing “Ai wo Tomenaide”.

When she finished her set, instead of an “encore” chant, the crowd sang “Anata Dake ga”. Koda obliged and wowed the crowd with an encore.

“My first Taiwan show in a year. I was happy that you all said, “Welcome back!” Koda Kumi is approaching her 15th year already. It’s been a short 15 years when I look back on it. This is my fourth Taiwan show. This year I made an album and went on a tour with the theme of “WALK OF MY LIFE”. You only live once. You may struggle with things, and people may oppose you. However, it’s not about what people think, it’s about how you live. If you think it’s right, then you should go for it. I want to walk with you and my music. Your smiles give me courage. Thank you so much for today!” – Koda Kumi

Koda will play at Singapore’s *SCAPE The Ground Theatre on July 18. She will release “SUMMER of LOVE” on July 22 and play “a-nation island ~Koda Kumi 15th Anniversary Premium Live~” at Kokuritsu Yoyogi First Gymnasium on August 2.

J Network Online - What To Expect For Koda Kumi’s First Solo Live In Singapore!

http://i57.tinypic.com/2iql9i9.jpg

Earlier this evening, two of our reporters from J-Network headed to The Treetop at *scape for Koda Kumi’s media press conference! While the session was a brief 30 minutes long, it did manage to encapsulate Koda Kumi’s overall workings as an artiste and of course, her excitement for her first solo live here!

Emcee and interpreter Miki Noriyuki assisted with translations and gave a brief introduction to Koda Kumi’s flourishing music career, highlighting various interesting facts as well such as the fact that she has had a total concert viewership of over 1.3 million people!

Having recently concluded her Arena tour in Japan and the Taiwanese leg of her Asian tour, Koda Kumi arrived in Singapore with full force! She stepped onto the raised platform, clad in a dark blue tube top, black pencil skirt and her hair dyed in pastel shades.

http://i58.tinypic.com/2195kdy.jpg

The first question to come out during the Q&A session was from J-Network itself! Our reporter asked Koda Kumi where she got the ideas and inspiration for her costumes from – and of course, what to expect for the next day’s concert. Koda then answered that she took into account the era of her concert and is also careful to pick something that flatters her body shape to boost her confidence, picking out usually the one-piece suits by herself.

As for tomorrow’s costumes, be prepared for a surprise! Koda told the audience that half her costumes for the next day’s concerts will be carried over from her recent arena tour [Koda Kumi 15th Anniversary Live Tour 2015 supported by Mercedes-Benz] while the other half was created just for the concert on 18 July 2015!

http://i61.tinypic.com/2dj8cd3.jpg

With a more intimate setting compared to the vastness of her arena concerts in Japan, fans will definitely have the opportunity to see her awesome and ever-unique costumes up-close! Do stay tuned to find out more about what the Queen of Live has to offer to Singapore during her concert!

The New Paper Singapore - J-pop sex goddess Koda Kumi: I have low self-esteem

Even the hottest female stars have their moments of insecurity.

Take that from Japanese singer Koda Kumi, widely known as J-pop’s flamboyant sex goddess.

The 32-year-old industry veteran — she is celebrating her 15th year in the music business — might boast a curvaceous to-die-for bod and long, shapely legs, but at her press conference yesterday evening, she brushed away the suggestion that she is an ageless bombshell.

“I have never really thought of myself as sexy,” said the mother of one through a translator.

“Actually, I have low self-esteem and there are some parts of myself that I am not confident about at all.” -

POPCulture Online - Meeting The “Queen of Live” Koda Kumi

I put this under a spoiler cos it's quite a long article :3

Spoiler:
In town for her first solo concert, Japanese singer Koda Kumi took time off her busy schedule to talk with members of the media during the press conference. Kenneth Wong reports from the press conference where the Queen of Live (as she is known thanks to her powerful vocals) shared about her time in Singapore 4 years ago, her costumes for the concert and also about her image as an artist.

http://i60.tinypic.com/2em0u2b.jpg

Starting off the press conference, Kumi shared about how she will consider about what's popular at the particular point in time when considering the costume for her concert. Other considerations also include what would fit her body shape and also what will look good on her. Thus she would usually pick outfits that are unique in design that others usually would not wear and also those that fits her as an artist. As for the Singapore concert, Kumi shares that half of the costumes are brought in from japan while the other half are specially picked for the concert and hopes her fans will look out for them.

http://i61.tinypic.com/wu15vq.jpg

During her stay in Singapore 4 years ago for the Mnet Asian Music Awards, Kumi enjoyed her time here and told her staff that she would like to come back the following year. A year later she got pregnant and thus couldn’t make it (she is currently married to Kenji03 from Back-On and have a 3 year old son). Subsequent years she has received enthusiastic requests for her to come back to Singapore but something else would pop up and she couldn’t make the trip down. Thus it took 4 years before she could come down to perform in her solo concert and she is really looking forward to seeing her fans here.

Moving onto her Summer of Love album, Kumi shared with everyone her selection process for it. To her, summer is the time where she can be free and express herself. Thus the songs selected are those that reflect the image of summer well. Most of the songs selected were also after the year 2006 as that is when she felt her voice as an artist was established.

http://i59.tinypic.com/miic0m.jpg

When asked about how she maintain her popularity over the 15 years in the music industry, Kumi replied that to her, just being herself and being confident of who she is, would the most important thing. There will always be talk going on especially after being in the industry for so long but it is always important to stand by where you intend to be and be yourself no matter what happens.

http://i60.tinypic.com/20rk2tc.jpg

As for her image being considered sexy, Kumi explained that as someone who has low self-esteem, she uses fashion to help boost her self-esteem and confidence. As age catches up with her, she feels that inner beauty counts more as compared to outer appearances. Thus she wants to focus more on her inner beauty. Kumi hopes that rather than guys calling her sexy, she would be considered a cool figure from the female fans as well. This led to her thinking how her fashion can reflect a cool, strong and independent image of a female instead of just being known as sexy from a guy’s point of view.

*Of which Kenneth commented that he felt she is cool from his point of view as a guy before asking his question. After all, not many singers get to perform the main theme for a famous Japanese RPG game such as the Final Fantasy series.

http://i60.tinypic.com/30w4bw1.jpg

Ending off the Q&A segment, Kumi shared about her visit to Singapore 4 years ago where she commented that the thing which caught her eye about Singapore was the beauty of this city such as the city lights and the night scape. Singapore also boasts good local food and it didn’t disappoint and was delicious. Another thing that impressed her was the smiles from the people and the staff that she worked with. Even though it was a 8 minute live segment that she was involved with, it felt like a second as time passes very quickly when one is having fun. It was this moment that she really enjoyed herself and felt that she wanted to share this with fans and to come back to Singapore again.

Thank you Koda Kumi for your time and we look forward to your concert!

The Strait Times Singapore - Japanese singer Koda Kumi says she has low self-esteem

http://www.straitstimes.com/sites/de...?itok=jnFqALdL

It is surprising to hear sexy Japanese pop queen Koda Kumi, known for her provocative dance moves and cleavage-bearing style, say she has low self esteem.

“I have actually never really felt that I am sexy and I do have low self-esteem. There are things about me that I don’t feel so comfortable about, but I use fashion and other things to boost my confidence,” says the singer via a translator at a press conference in Singapore on Friday, ahead of her first solo concert here on Saturday.

And it seems that the 32-year-old, who has been in showbusiness for 15 years, is intent on an image makeover.

Looking sophisticated in an electric blue peplum top and knee-length black skirt, she says: “Rather than have guys call me sexy, I would like to be considered a cool figure by my female fans. I have been thinking how my fashion can reflect that strong and independent female image," she says.

The best-selling artist has sold more than 15 million records in Japan and will be releasing her collection album Summer Of Love in Japan this month.

She is married to vocalist and guitarist Kenji03 from Japanese rock band Back-On, with whom she has a three-year-old son.

At her concert tomorrow, half of her costumes are original pieces that she will be specially wearing for the gig.

On how she picks her outfits, Kumi says: “I take my body shape into consideration and what looks nice on me. I usually take something that is one-piece, one that is unique and not something that many people will wear.”

The singer was last here four years ago to perform at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.

On finally holding her first solo concert here, she says: “I am really excited because it took me 15 years to hold a concert in Singapore and I am looking forward to meeting the fans.”

When asked how she maintains her popularity in the cut-throat entertainment industry, the singer emphasises the importance of staying true to herself.

“Many people will talk and they will say whatever they want, but we can’t stop that. It is important that you maintain your stance and know where you stand and be yourself no matter what.”

Channel News Asia - Motherhood teaches Japanese singer Koda Kumi 'meaning of love'

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/image.../koda-kumi.jpg

SINGAPORE: Japanese singer Koda Kumi will perform her first solo gig in Singapore on Saturday (Jul 18), but ahead of the show, she shared how motherhood has changed her life and taught her the "meaning of love".

The show in Singapore is part of her Koda Kumi Asia Live 2015 concert series, which marks her 15th anniversary in the business. And while she looks much the same as the last time she visited in 2011, the singer said much has changed since.

For one, she tied the knot with Kenji03 from Japanese rock band Back-On in 2011 and they have a three-year-old son. Having a family has changed her life in ways big and small, but the changes are most pronounced with her music and dressing, she said through a translator at a media conference on Friday (Jul 17).

“My husband is a rocker so it would look strange if I dressed all cool like this all the time. For example, I am wearing 15cm heels, but nowadays I wear flats or sneakers when I am with him," she said.

“As for my music, I try to keep my personal life separate from my music. But after I gave birth to my son, I feel that I now really understand the meaning of love. The word ‘itoshi’, which means affection and love toward someone precious, comes up a lot in my songs now. I think that is the biggest change in my music,” she added.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/blob/...apore-data.jpg

"I HAVE LOW SELF ESTEEM"

When asked her secret for staying popular all these years, the singer replied: “I believe that being yourself is the most important thing.

“After 15 years in the business, many people will talk and they will say whatever they want to say, but we can’t stop that. It is important that you maintain your stance, know where you stand, and be yourself no matter what.”

Although she is known in the J-Pop scene for her provocative dance moves and sexy image, the singer said she “never really felt sexy”.

“I have low self-esteem and there are things about myself I am not comfortable about, but I use fashion and other things to cover that up and boost my confidence. As I grow older, I think inner beauty counts more instead of how I look.

“Rather than having gentlemen call me sexy, I would rather be considered a cool figure by the female fans. So I think about how to bring that across through fashion, and be seen as a strong, independent female by women, rather than (be seen as) sexy, from a guy’s point of view,” she said.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/blob/...apore-data.jpg

KEEPING A PROMISE TO VISIT SINGAPORE

As for holding her concert here, she said the Lion City had left a very deep impression when she last visited in 2011 for the Mnet Asian Music Awards. It was a whirlwind visit, but she became so enamoured by the city-state that she vowed to return.

“The beauty of the city, its skyline, its good food and the smiles of its people really impressed me,” said the 32-year-old.

“I said to myself I would love to come to Singapore, but then I got pregnant and every year, something kept popping up. So I felt very excited and looked forward to meeting my fans in Singapore when I finally got the chance to hold my first solo concert here.”

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/blob/...-kumi-data.jpg

The singer added she still loves connecting with her fans, and has no intention of calling it a day.

She said: “I really like the feeling of being close to my fans. In Japan, when I perform at big arenas, I miss performing at concert halls, because it is a more intimate setting. So if I perform at an arena, I will perform at a concert hall next, then at another arena.

“I look forward to performing at The Ground Theatre here because it is smaller than a concert hall, and it is going to be more intimate. I think I will be able to see each fan’s facial expression and connect with them.”

“I really believe that dreams do come true, because I am here today after so many years. I also think that where there is a will, there is a way. Fifteen years down the road, I will still be saying to my fans ‘Did you enjoy my performance?’. That is what I envision myself doing in the future.”

It's hard to believe that she has low self-esteem. She's so damn cool, confident and amazing all the time that it just doesn't show at all. :D Well done, Queen Kuu, you have amazed me once again~ :heart

And the Happie Nuts photoshoot is bloody gorgeous. Glamorous and cool and the same time. She really knows how to amaze me with every photoshoot she does~ *__*

She looks great. I personally don't consider her a natural beauty, but she's really learned how to use her hair, makeup and outfits to look beautiful.

Her website mentions she's also in the September issue of JELLY but JELLY's table of contents doesn't mention her at all.

OMG KUU was AMAZING . Being 2 rows centre from her away onstage was to die for

When she sang HURRICANE the PV was played behind her . All in all superb & Kuu was in tip top form !

And I'm so pleased she sang Suki de x3 when she invited a female fan onstage *______*

Kuu looked geniunely surprised when the entire audience sang her songs together with her :D

I took this before I left the venue

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CKM3EmWUAAEO0Mg.jpg

Thank you Kuu ! Singapore thanks you for gracing your presence here ;_______;

tokyoxjapanxfan 18th July 2015 04:00 PM

She always sings my favorite songs during a medley -_-

But glad you had a good time :)
I'd love to see her one day

Cloudsoldier 18th July 2015 04:10 PM

Omg! It was so so amazing and surreal! freedreamer, Dumbellz and I really lost our voice! It's so nice to see Singaporean fans so supportive of her.

KarenPang 18th July 2015 04:19 PM

Kuu wore 6 outfits today , 7 if you count the trenchcoat & bikini combo as 1 xD

It was only her & 5 dancers onstage . No fancy props , just her & her dancers to command the stage

I couldn't have asked for more

kaled kalil 18th July 2015 04:31 PM

No new outfit then? Glad to know you guys had a blast!

KarenPang 18th July 2015 04:59 PM

I think the only new outfit Kuu wore today was when she did the encore segment , she came out wearing a large white tour T-shirt , a camouflage hat with brown boots

Did she wore in last weekend's Taiwan duo concerts ? that I'm not sure

Aside from that , her other outfits she wore were the same as what she wore last weekend

Kuu was so cute when she tried her best to speak in English which she did a little bit before she sang the final song of today , which was walk

After that she was like can she speak in Japanese ? Everyone all said Daijoubu xD

Before she sang walk , Kuu said she was really glad to see so many fans from different walks of life who attended her concert today . She was trying her best not to cry when she sang walk but she still soldiered on like a true professional

All in all , she was amazing . I will write my concert report later on after I shower LOL

jiarongisme 18th July 2015 05:00 PM

The concert was AMAZING! I was 2metres away!!

Also, during Lady Go!, she looked at me and did the dance with me. I'M DYING.

Proper review soon!!

KarenPang 18th July 2015 05:02 PM

I forgot to say that during the encore , she & her dancers were throwing balls to the audience

My younger sister managed to get 1 from 1 of her male dancers who was right in front of her . Sadly it wasn't autographed by Kuu T_T

Oh well xD

se7entheaven 18th July 2015 05:30 PM

^ I got a blue one. Lol.
During the MC someone's phone rang and Kuu was like "Ehhhhhh", followed by her "calling gesture" as she said "Hello?". Then the guy was like "SORRY!!!" And she said "It's okay".

ahahaha yeah someone's phone rang when she was talking prior to the end before she sang walk xD

At least she was a good sport when that happened x)

dumbellz 18th July 2015 06:12 PM

Well luckily it's a normal phone ringtone. .. can you imagine it's some other artists song? Lol.... that person should switch to silent mode!!!

I did heartshape to her and she did back to me!!! She is so perfect!!! Her body!!! Omg

jiarongisme 18th July 2015 06:32 PM

So!! Here's the experience I had today with the Kuu concert. It was amazing!

Spoiler:
So Meat Pao and I went to the venue at around 5pm to get the goods and also have dinner before the concert. There were actually no one getting the goods while we were there. I guess they actually got it when the booth first opened at 12pm. To our disappointment, there weren't any banners or photo ops for us to take photos. The set up was rather small scale altogether. Whatever that Karen and her sister had posted on their respective Twitter accounts were it. There were nothing more. I guess that was the only disappointment to the overall experience.

Anyway, I bought one of the button badges, the brochure and also the light stick. I also renewed my Koda Gumi membership and they gave me some bonus items too. 4 of the latest Koda Gumi magazines and a sticker.

http://i.imgur.com/XjLmVpA.jpg?1
Not pictured: 15th anniversary sticker

Fast forward to queueing to enter. My friends and I had tickets number 16 - 18. So we were the first few to enter the theatre. Some fans actually ran for their standing area. We kinda did too. But it's great because we managed to stand in the first row!! We were SO near to the stage! It's literally just 2 metres away and the view was AMAZING. We entered 30 minutes before the show started so it wasn't really a long wait.

http://i.imgur.com/UPk0Iwn.jpg?1

They were playing some urban tracks and they were great. All of a sudden, the lights were switched off. Not even dimmed. It took us by surprise for a bit. But that's also when the screams started.

01. Introduction ~WALK OF MY LIFE~
The dancers entered and the crowd got really hyped! I recognized the outfit though. I think it's from the opening segment of TRICK tour?

02. POP DIVA
In the intro, that's when Kuu entered from the back of the stage, below the screen. Outfit was the giant fur coat and she opened it up to reveal the bikini mid song. Jesus, her legs are out of this world. The house went crazy pretty much. The song can actually be pretty annoying when you listen to it but it's so fun live! Especially the chorus where we were all just screaming along.

03. Mercedes
I didn't think much of it. I enjoyed it though. She took out the fur coat in the end and threw it off stage.

04. House Party
So. Much. Fun! We were all screaming along to the chorus and of course, THE ROOF, THE ROOF, THE ROOF IS ON FIRE! The choreography was great too! The screen showed Kuu singing along to the song. Everything looked very pop art and colorful.

05. Poppin' love cocktail
Your usual towel spinning shebang. I didn't buy the towel so I spun my light stick instead. Really fun too! That's when she started walking to the left and right of the stage. SHE WAS SO CLOSE!!

06. IS THIS TRAP?
This was one of the performances that I was looking forward to the most. It's such a banger tbh! We were all jumping during the ohhhh! part. My only gripe is that they cut out the second verse and chorus.

-Interlude video-
Pretty cool. Basically she showed her live history that were recorded on DVD. It ended with a little clip of WALK OF MY LIFE from the latest arena tour in Japan. It looked really beautifully filmed! I guess it was also sort of a preview of what outfit was next.

07. Ai no Uta
She walked onto the stage in the green dress. Beautiful performance, she walked around the stage during this. I guess I'm one of the few Kuu fans that actually love this song to bits so to see this performed live was great.

08. Sometimes Dreams Come True
Got her mic stand from backstage and dragged it to the center of the stage. Pretty damn badass. It was great because english lyrics of the song was being shown on the screen. Honestly, even for the WOML arena tour, I was expecting her to turn it into some sort of a fun or cutesy performance. But it was pretty badass. Like a rock performance. Just her standing behind the mic stand and singing. I loved it.

09. WALK OF MY LIFE
No piano. Boo. She sounded alright. Again, english lyrics on the screen. Really touching tbh. At some points it sounded like 'so begins the wook of my life' though lol.

-Invitation-
One of her new male dancers came on stage, and the screen showed that a lucky audience member had the chance to go up on stage to choose a song to be performed. So he was just walking around stage with the invitation letter and teasing the audience to get them all hyped up.

He ended up getting a girl in the middle of the crowd named to go up on stage. When he went down to get the girl, Kuu came in in a pretty sparkly dress, like the one in the WOML tour.

When both the girl and Kuu sat down on the couch, Kuu asked the girl for her name, to which she said that her name was Natsumi. She got the audience to clap for her and then realised that the name was Japanese. She asked if she was actually Japanese but Natsumi then said that that was actually her cosplay name.

Natsumi chose Suki de, Suki de, Suki de. And so, the performance starts.

10. Suki de, Suki de, Suki de. (Fan's request)
It's pretty cool because the screen showed 'To natsumi, Suki de, Suki de, Suki de.' And the Japanese lyrics started showing. She sounded alright, kinda strained at some parts. But omg, there was so much interaction with Natsumi! Kuu leaned on her shoulder, held her hand, patted her back. I was so envious.

11. Someday
Kuu sent Natsumi off and she started singing the first line of Someday. Everyone knew to sing along! Pretty sweet performance.

12. Dance In The Rain
Kuu stood there in the dress and sang. No tissue dance, but it's fine. Again, sounded pretty strained. We all sang along during the oh~ part before the chorus.

-Interlude video-
Album history video. They showed the one PV clip that were from each studio/cover album. It ended with SUMMER of LOVE, showing the clips from EX TAPE and HURRICANE.

13. HURRICANE
She came out with a leather bra top with shorts and what seemed like the shawl from the dance section of Premium Night ~Love & Songs~ and it covered the shorts she was wearing. I think she changed her make up too! Heavier eyeshadow with red lipstick. Omg the song is such a bop. It's a great dance track. I loved it. The PV seemed pretty boring though. But the choreography was on fire.

14. Like It
Pretty standard Like It performance. I was dancing and jamming to it pretty much.

15. real Emotion
I guess those who didn't look up the setlist beforehand were pleasantly surprised. It was really nice because she got everyone to sing along to the chorus and we all did!

16. Dance part (Interlude ~Dance~)
It was basically a dancers introduction section. Omg Kuu's new male dancers are so cute. Heh.

17. TABOO
She came out with a change of top and removed the shawl. It was similar to the KXVK long T-shirt. Great performance. Cut short though. No second verse and chorus again.

18. BE MY BABY ~ LOADED
Another performance I was looking forward to. They didn't cut out much from both songs. And I thoroughly enjoyed them both!! It's so fun to dance along to BE MY BABY and sing along to LOADED!

19. LIFE so GOOD!!
Another towel spinning song. Really fun but she did sound rather tired. No confetti though! I was expecting it.

-Encore-
So the screen before the show started showed up again. Everyone was shouting for an encore. I think some Japanese fans wanted everyone to sing for Kuu but it didn't really happen at the beginning so we shouted encore. We ended up singing TAKE BACK though!

EN1. Medley (Cutie Honey / Lady Go! / WIND / I'll be there / Butterfly)
They didn't cut that much from the songs actually! I was expecting her to just sing the choruses for each but most of them had a verse and their respective bridges too! Cutie Honey was fun! Okay, so here's the thing with Lady Go!. She has this dance during the chorus where we waved our hand and then reached out and wiggle out fingers. On one of the choruses when she stood in the middle of the stage, she turned into my general direction and so I tried to get her attention. And guess what, she saw me! So we actually did the dance together! I was so excited!! Everything else was great.

EN2. LALALALALA
It was alright. Singing along to the lalalalalas. She did sound a little strained though. That's a pattern I've noticed in this concert.

-Talk-
So she said hi to Singapore and also to her Japanese fans that came to Singapore for the show. She started talking about how the concept of the show and her 15th anniversary tied in with WALK OF MY LIFE. And basically told us all that it's okay to chase our dreams and ignore what the naysayers say. A translation of the message was scrolling through the back. And yes, someone's phone rang in the middle of Kuu's speech and she was like EH?! Mimicked picking up a phone and said Hello? The guy shouted sorry and Kuu said it's okay! It was a really cute moment.

EN3. walk
As usual, she ended the concert with walk. She started to choke up and cry a bit in the middle of the song. Left the stage after saying thanks.

A clip played at the end. I'm assuming it's from the WOML tour. She's walking through the streets of her 15th anniversary city - buildings with billboards of her past covers and videos - and walking towards a light. While she was walking she, there were some words at the bottom, basically it's the gist of the tiny speech she made before walk. After that it faded to black and WALK OF MY LIFE came up on the screen. Then the MY got replaced by YOUR so it became WALK OF YOUR LIFE.

After walk, everyone shouted for her to come back. And so she did, she thanked everyone again and the dancers came out and they took a final bow. This is what the screen showed after the show ended:

http://i.imgur.com/I3Ib3O0.jpg?1

Overall, it was an amazing night. We all know Kuu is about big shows and creating a big spectacle in her concerts. But this is a refreshing change and honestly, I was a bit worried if things would be bare and she would lose herself on a stripped down show. Turns out, she commanded the stage pretty damn well. I guess that's why she's dubbed the queen of live. She does so well in any setting. I would love to see her up close again, just like tonight. I was literally 2m away from her! It's so great to see her like that. She looked genuinely happy. If I could see her now I would definitely thank her for an amazing night and thank her for her music. I've been fan of hers for about 8 years now (ever since FREAKY) and I'm so so so happy to finally see her live. It's something that I can't really put into words but I guess the closest adjectives would be happy and grateful.

koumori 18th July 2015 09:28 PM

Thanks for the reviews everyone :heart It seems like it was an awesome concert!

Gustavopc 18th July 2015 09:47 PM

Thanks for your reviews! :yes I read them with a smile on my face hahaha It's pretty clear it was a fun and awesome concert, and it's also amazing how well received Kuu was at Singapore!

Minttulatte 19th July 2015 12:53 AM

You lucky people, you. I'm happy for you. I wish I was able to attend that concert, too. But I was born in bloody Europe. -.-

SHE SANG SUKI DE, SUKI DE, SUKI DE?! OMFG! :shakehead That's like... one of my top 5 favorite Kuu ballads ever! I hope we get to see that performance! :luv2

Although I was absolutely disappointed with the content of Summer of Love release, I caved in and pre-ordered it...damn the collector in me lol.

Right??? homegirl's body is INSANE. Especially when you see her that close in person *__*

04. House Party
So. Much. Fun! We were all screaming along to the chorus and of course, THE ROOF, THE ROOF, THE ROOF IS ON FIRE! The choreography was great too! The screen showed Kuu singing along to the song. Everything looked very pop art and colorful.
omg yaaaaas I loved House Party on the album but the live performance was hella fun

Quote:

I loved it.
Honestly, this was one of my favorite performances from the arena tour. I loved it so much because it's basically her, with a mike, minimal effects, in a badass dress, singing her ass off--it's like the epitome of what the song is about, and it gave me chills. I'm glad they didn't change the performance for the Asia tour! Did they have a wind machine going too?

Quote:

Kuu asked the girl for her name, to which she said that her name was Natsumi. She got the audience to clap for her and then realised that the name was Japanese. She asked if she was actually Japanese but Natsumi then said that that was actually her cosplay name.
I find this incredibly pretentious for some reason. :shakehead

Quote:

10. Suki de, Suki de, Suki de. (Fan's request)
It's pretty cool because the screen showed 'To natsumi, Suki de, Suki de, Suki de.'
Honestly, her staff are awesome about making the screens interactive with fans. I'm not sure how to describe it, really? But anyone who's gone to a Kuu concert and gets to their seats early probably knows what I mean; they pan the cameras around the audience to different people and type out prompts that they want the person they're filming to do (wave your fans, do a peace sign, kiss your girlfriend, etc.) so it's nice to see that they kind of carried that over and personalized things a bit :)

Quote:

She changed her makeup for the arena tour setlist too, iirc--much darker lipstick, stronger eyes, etc. (though HURRICANE came later on in that segment)

Quote:

16. Dance part (Interlude ~Dance~)
It was basically a dancers introduction section. Omg Kuu's new male dancers are so cute. Heh.
omg did they have the video showing where it was like everyone was getting booked into a police station/having their mug shots taken?!?

Quote:

A clip played at the end. I'm assuming it's from the WOML tour. She's walking through the streets of her 15th anniversary city - buildings with billboards of her past covers and videos - and walking towards a light. While she was walking she, there were some words at the bottom, basically it's the gist of the tiny speech she made before walk. After that it faded to black and WALK OF MY LIFE came up on the screen. Then the MY got replaced by YOUR so it became WALK OF YOUR LIFE.
Yep, that was at the end of the arena tour :love all my teeeeeears

So glad you guys had an amazing time!!! I hope she comes back to SG again for you soon!

Yes! So cool!

Oh! I forgot to mention this! The dancers went off stage during the medley in the encore, I think it was during WIND, with buckets of the balls. Not all were autographed actually! My friend got a plain one ahahaha. That said, my hands and one of the female dancers (MINAMI I think) brushed against each other hehe. She's got sweaty palms :laugh

Reading all the reviews here from all these awesome like-minded Kuu fans...and in my mind, IM MISSING HER ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!! KUU-CHAN!!!!! ><

She was one heck of a performer..I just can't. The atmosphere was heated for such a small venue (I was honestly shocked when I walked into that Cube LOL) but ahh omg...Kuu was on fire (no pun intended LOL). But being a small venue, everything was so intimate. She was just THERE! Standing 3m from us OMG...Something you won't even get in Japan!

I used pictures from last weekend's Taipei concerts of her & summarised what she sang when she wore these outfits

http://img.en.barks.jp/image/review/.../kodatw3_s.jpg

POP DIVA

http://img.en.barks.jp/image/review/.../kodatw1_s.jpg

Kuu took off her coat after she sang POP DIVA which revealed the above outfit

- Mercedes
- House Party
- Poppin' love cocktail Feat TEEDA
- IS THIS TRAP?

http://img.en.barks.jp/image/review/.../kodatw2_s.jpg

- Ai no Uta
- Sometimes Dreams Come True
- WALK OF MY LIFE

https://scontent-dfw1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...9c&oe=5615BD8A

- HURRICANE
- Like It
- real Emotion

https://scontent-dfw1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...0b&oe=56200050

When that screen of Kuu flashed onscreen , it happened during the Dance battle where Kuu danced 1st followed by her 5 dancers (2 females 3 males)

My favourite outfit Kuu wore last night was definitely the green dress with the headpiece when she sang her ballads but then again she looked flawless from start til end :love

I didn't repost the encore photos as she wore a different outfit from what she wore last weekend

Also , prior to the end of IS THIS TRAP? , instead of singing 'Midnight in Tokyo' , Kuu sang 'Midnight in Singapore' :D

The Strait Times Singapore - J-pop queen Koda Kumi delivers on first solo concert in Singapore

Awesome concert report that The Strait Times wrote <3 I put it in a spoiler mode cos it's quite long but well written

Spoiler:
KODA KUMI ASIA LIVE 2015

SCAPE The Ground Theatre/Saturday

It has been a long 15-year wait for Koda Kumi fans to catch their idol's first solo concert in Singapore. With so much fervid anticipation, the Japanese pop singer did not disappoint as she sang and danced with explosive gusto in front of a full-capacity crowd at The Ground Theatre on Saturday.

In between one of Kumi's six costume changes, the audience was treated to clips of her past concert tours - dramatically elaborate productions of a younger, baby-faced Kumi emerging from a water-filled aquarium like a mermaid and brazenly swinging from a rope in the air a la Tarzan .

For those who were expecting acts of a similar grandiose scale, there were none on Saturday. Like some of Kumi's previous stops in Japan for her recently-concluded 15th Anniversary arena tour, the set at The Ground Theatre was kept to a bare minimum save for a big screen to air video projections.

Not that the lack of embellishments mattered. Dubbed the "Queen of Live", the singer captivated the 700-strong crowd of mostly middle-aged working professionals who would have followed her career since it started in the new millennium. Her high-octane performance was commanding and dance routines energetic throughout the two-hour concert. She powered through a 20-song set list made up of singles from her latest album Walk Of My Life and older songs, delivering hit after hit all on-key in her rich, husky voice.

It was a more mature showing from the sex siren, known for her provocative dance moves and skin-baring style in her music videos; perhaps even the dawn of a new age of sorts.

After all, at a press conference with the media on the eve of her concert here, the mother-of-one hinted at a desire to move on from her sexy image and instead be regarded as a "strong and independent female" by her fans.

The opening of the concert was one of the few glimpses of the singer's playful sex appeal.

Flanked by a five-man dance crew, Kumi kicked off the evening with a string of fast-paced, catchy tunes such as Pop Diva (2011), House Party (2015) and Poppin' Love Cocktail (2011). Clad in a colourful neon two-piece swimwear underneath an oversized coat (which she later removed), the atmosphere was akin to a frothy summer beach party as she shook her hips wildly onstage and danced with beach towels.

It was on the slower emotionally-fuelled numbers where her powerhouse vocals shone. Gracefully striding across the stage alone in a full-length gown, she passionately belted out hit love ballad Ai no Uta (2007) and the searingly intense Walk Of My Life (2015) with raw conviction.

The singer then returned in various edgy, punk-rocker outfits to get the crowd pumping again with tracks such as the hard-hitting dance song Taboo (2008) and the poppy Real Emotion (2003), theme song of video game Final Fantasy X-2.

Midway through the concert, one lucky fan was invited onstage and handed a book by Kumi herself to choose any song of hers. It was an intimate and sincere gesture from the artist, who proceeded to serenade the clearly overwrought female fan seated beside her on a white couch.

The highlight of the night indisputably came towards the end, when the singer returned onstage for an encore. With English subtitles flashing on the screen behind her, the Japanese-speaking artist was visibly emotional as she addressed the 15th anniversary milestone of her career and thanked her fans profusely for supporting her all these years.

"'You're never going to realise a big dream like that.' I've been on the receiving end of those words many times to the extent that I've had times where I actually had thoughts about quitting," she said as she struggled to hold back tears.

"I'm sure for everyone here, there are times when you wonder what other people think but your life is yours and I hope you will not be wavered by someone else's opinion," she added to rapturous applause.

It was strikingly symbolic that the singer chose to come full circle for her final song: a rousing rendition of the single Walk from her debut album (2002). As Kumi raised her arm up towards the crowd emphatically, there could not have been a more fitting way to close the show.

KarenPang 19th July 2015 02:45 PM

I saw some fans carrying the Kloop backpack yesterday to the concert . It was quite amusing as the backpack was so big

In addition , I also saw fans that took a mini van to *SCAPE . I don't think they were Singaporeans . There were Japanese fans who flew in specially just to see Kuu last night which was cool

DevilsClap 19th July 2015 02:57 PM

I'm not really a fan of her new mascot but I think as a backpack, it looks quite adorable and I could see myself getting one of them this way.

happiholic★ 19th July 2015 04:13 PM

Yes, yes. Everyone join the Kloop fandom!

Gustavopc 19th July 2015 04:17 PM

It does look better as backpack maybe cause it's in 3D, and not in the tacky 90s cartoon style of the printed images of it. But I still think this mascot is pretty pointless and she should have stick to Koda Kuma as usual.

DevilsClap 19th July 2015 05:14 PM

I just think it's looks make a perfect backpack :yes
The magnets and other things are also not that bad looking.
I think her mascot will grow on me over time.
Koda Kuma was just much cuter :D

Delicious n Bold 19th July 2015 05:22 PM

Iconic queen. I think my cd cover on iTunes for WOML still has Kloop photoshopped over Kumi's face lol

happiholic★ 19th July 2015 05:50 PM

I've honestly always detested Koda Kuma. It creeps me the fuck out. Its always been my least favorite J-Pop cartoon mascot. Kloop is a welcome change.

pimenta 19th July 2015 06:53 PM

imo it looks just as ugly as a backpack... The kloop goods are the ones I honestly have zero wish to ever own.

Koda Kuma is adorable, I wish Kuu would bring it back.

The J-pop mascot I hate the most is still Amuroch though >_<

DevilsClap 19th July 2015 07:52 PM

My boyfriend says kloop reminds him of the care bears.

I think I really only want that backpack for now. :D

whaaaaat ?!?
in fact, for me there is 3 type of Koda Kuma!!!

And I totally loved the very first one ! I have the 5~6 differents ! I don't find picture of all :/ http://community.img.mixi.jp/photo/c...1540484_70.jpg
The 2nd are the stuffed bears, I really don't like those
The 3rd are the key chain / phone plug, not so bad for me (but to thin :/)

The KLOOP have 2 differents :
the key chain reminds me the first koda kuma ♥
the stuffed ones are a way better than the kuma's ones! ♥
The magnets are the same :)

So they are a good deal for all fans!

but the first koda kuma were soooo good :'(

oaristos 19th July 2015 09:14 PM

The backpack is cute.

I stand corrected. Amuroch is the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

I've always been a fan of Ai Otsuka's bunny. Ayupan is alright.

Gustavopc 19th July 2015 11:45 PM

Sometimes ayupan is cute af but there are times she scares the hell out of me with those enormous eyes - but then it's a perfect representation of ayu herself, so I consider that ok.

Koda Kuma is my fav Jpop mascot, I wish(ed?) of going a to a Kuu concert and take a pic with it hahahaha

Zahara 20th July 2015 12:51 AM

I like bears, I like Koda. Put them together and I like them even more.

Barks English - Koda Kumi's new song “NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU” released. “I wanted to use words from nature”

Quote:

Koda Kumi will release a summer collection album, titled “SUMMER of LOVE”, on July 22. She just released a preview of her new song, “NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU” off of the album.

UTA, a creator who has worked with the DOUBLE & Namie Amuro collaboration (BLACK DIAMOND), as well as JUJU’s “PLAYBACK” and AI’s “Happiness”, worked on this song. “NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU” is a R&B ballad that carries the Koda Kumi standard that will be heard for decades to come.

“When I heard the melody, I imagined singing it in the breeze. I wanted to use word from nature like wind, cloud, and sun. I didn’t want to force it, so I tried to sing as naturally and gently as I could. It was difficult because It was new territory for me, but I think it came out well.” – Koda Kumi

Koda Kumi just finished her fourth Taiwan concert in three consecutive years. She will play her first Singapore show this weekend. She is sure to captivate fans in Japan and overseas in this 15th anniversary year.
http://www.en.barks.jp/news/?id=1000005805

The original Japanese article that Barks published was written before Saturday night's concert in Singapore so yeah :3

But it's nice for Kuu to explain more on the back story for NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU
