Info from Wikipedia

Perfume (パフューム Pafyūmu) is a Japanese pop girl group from Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, consisting of Ayano Ōmoto ("Nocchi"), Yuka Kashino ("Kashiyuka"), and Ayaka Nishiwaki ("A~chan"). The group has been signed with Amuse, Inc. since 2003 and with Universal Music Japan since 2012.

The group was formed in early 2000 inside young talent academy Actors School Hiroshima, and debuted with their first Hiroshima-local single "Omajinai Perori" released on March 21, 2002. A year later they moved to Tokyo, started to work with Capsule's producer Yasutaka Nakata and released their first nationwide indie single, "Sweet Donuts" on August 6, 2003. In 2005 they got a major contract deal with Tokuma Japan Communications, and released their major debut single "Linear Motor Girl" on September 21. However, it was not until 2008 where the group's seventh single "Polyrhythm", which was chosen to be the theme song of a recycle campaign by NHK, that they started to receive major attention in Japan. The single peaked at number seven on the Oricon charts, becoming their first Top 10 single in Japan, and since then, all of their subsequent works starting with their eighth single "Baby Cruising Love" have debuted within the Top 3 of the charts. Their first original studio album, Game, released on April 16, 2008, became their first number one album in Japan, and "Love the World", released on July 9, 2008, their first number one single. With roughly combined sales of both singles and albums, the group has sold over 3 million records, with 1.5 million albums sold in Japan alone as of March 2012.

The group was formed with an original post-Shibuya-kei sound as it was popular during the years until their transition toward contemporary electronic dance music that incorporated elements of synthpop, bubblegum pop, dance-pop and house music. The group is also known for their processed vocals, heavy use of autotune and vocoders. Over the years, Perfume has been one of the most successful acts in Asian music. The group's musical structure has been identified as "technopop". In 2012 the group announced that they had signed a global contract with Universal Music Group, and that they expected to expand their horizons and "go global".

FLASH short version:

From the trailer for the live action movie for Chihayafuru:

Beauty4123 24th February 2016 02:39 AM

"FLASH" is simply amaaazing! :luv2 I need to hear the full song ASAP, though! :P But for now, I think the short version will totally do. :D

Isicio 24th February 2016 08:25 AM

FLASH is great but I need more from the new tracks.

Ryusei 24th February 2016 02:19 PM

I hope this isn't the PV that will end up on the DVD/Blu Ray I'd rage so hard lol Also I hope it's not really only 2:13 long...

Isicio 25th February 2016 12:40 AM

^I don't think so xD

Ningyo Hime 25th February 2016 03:10 AM

Flash isnt bad. I think it will grow on me the same way Cling Cling did. I really love CC now.
I would have preferred Display or Ijiwaru na hello to have been on there rather than Hold Your Hand.
I'm glad its at the end of the album though.

Isicio 25th February 2016 01:32 PM

I would like to have Tomei Ningei in the album, so bad is not included.

And I don't understand why they put all the singles songs in the last part of the album and don't mix them with the new songs, only Sweet Refrain with Baby Face and then all the singles and B-sides to the last single till the first single order.

I can't wait to see the covers, and see what external bonus will give cdjapan but I think that it will be a poster like they always give.

I don't have any Perfume album so I want to buy this but I'm so disappointed that the DVD doesn't include any PV of the previous singles.

~kashifaita~ 26th February 2016 07:55 PM

^^^ tbh perfume rarely puts any of their single PVs on their album dvds. They usually only do so if the single PV isn't included in the single's dvd itself. Like for the Spice/GLITTER release, they only put the GLITTER PV on the single DVD and saved the Spice PV for JPN's release. It's a marketing gimmick to get you to buy everything :P

I for one am totally excited about this! FLASH is my new bop and that tracklist looks killer (like a Sweet Refrain mix??? <3 ) I was hoping for DISPLAY to get an album-mix though...

Isicio 26th February 2016 10:13 PM

^Yeah I understand i'ts a marketing gimmick to make you buy everything but at least they have the Perfume clips ob DVD/Bluray so you can have all the MV in one disc.

With 1 MV, 1 Lyric video and 2 lives in the new album you got something to watch so is not that bad at least.

I miss Pick Me Up album mix, but the original is great anyway.

I need covers right now T.T maybe in 2 weeks ?

.

I'm hoping its a poster, I don't particularly have any use for something like a sticker which tends to be a common Perfume external bonus as well

Isicio 4th March 2016 04:47 AM

Yes I hope so too.

The 2 covers are amazing!!

Ryusei 8th March 2016 01:13 AM

Tbh I'm not a big fan of the covers but the full version of FLASH is awesome

Beauty4123 8th March 2016 03:22 AM

Love the CD only cover so very much. :heart Plus, the full version of "FLASH" is incredible! I can't stop listening to it. :love

Ningyo Hime 9th March 2016 08:26 AM

I dont really like the covers an awful lot. The limited isnt too bad but I think what ruins them a lot also is the expectations for these covers. With a name like Cosmic Explorer you wouldnt really expect something like that.
That's just me though. I'm not saying covers always have to reflect the title but the name got me excited for a cool concept.

Chiharo 9th March 2016 09:59 AM

^I felt exactly the same as you! While the covers are good, I really thought they could have done something a lot better and more true to the title. I mean "Cosmic Explorer" sounds really great as a title and it makes you expect something just as cool.

Beauty4123 25th March 2016 01:54 AM

"FLASH" PV (short ver.):

Not only do I love the simplicity of the video, but Perfume & those kung-fu moves...:luv2 Can't wait for the full PV!

^ thank you ^^

prussian blue 4th April 2016 07:51 PM

The album track sounds extremely awesome, like seriously, Miracle Worker is the best track from the album, I can't wait to know how they will perform this song in their concert. The album flows really great, I remember I was quite disappointed by Level 3, but definitely not this one. It even has some dreamy pop vibes, which I really enjoy.

Not too fond of yasutaka's album mix in every album though, but I really like the vibes in this album, especially sweet refrain.

Zeke. 5th April 2016 02:18 AM

The album is really boring. Nothing stood out to me at all. It's less electro and more EDM-based, no? It sound immature compared to the last album, or at least in comparison to the tracks I enjoyed the most (1mm and Clockwork).

~kashifaita~ 5th April 2016 02:35 AM

^^^ I personally think it's a step up from LEVEL3 because of it's cohesiveness and I actually think it sounds more mature compared to their usual sound. I especially like how, despite it being EDM based, it doesn't depart from being 'Perfume.' But to each their own I guess haha. Overall, as an album imo, it's a slight up from LEVEL3, and almost on the same level as GAME. It's impressive how Nakata manages to bring the sounds together rather than make it another JPN pt. 2, aka singles collection. Maybe he was listening to our complaints about how all over the place this era was lol.

My only complaint is TOKIMEKI LIGHTS....how in heck is it different from the original lmao.

danielquasar 5th April 2016 06:38 AM

I personally see LEVEL3 and COSMIC EXPLORER as different. They are just to far apart for me to compare. I like them both for different reasons. CE is AWESOME though. The title track SLAYED me from the instant I heard it. Such a great opener!

TOKIMEKI LIGHTS is longer, and the mixed has been shifted around a bunch in different places. Otherwise, it's not anything new like Cling Cling, or Sweet Refrain.

salina 5th April 2016 05:10 PM

thanks for the links:yes

maxikot 6th April 2016 09:24 PM

I don't know if it's a step-up or down but i know this album is super fun and makes me want to jump/dance flail in all possible directions xD Cool catchy tunes. Cosmic explorer (song) has great old-school epic sound, i love it.

Bigtop 7th April 2016 12:38 AM

#1 in Oricon - but only 60,858 copies...anything to be concerned about? For sure they're going to get #1 (#2, FTISLAND, only has 16,648), but what about sales numbers?

http://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/ja/d/2016-04-05/

Isicio 7th April 2016 02:26 PM

60,858 copies are a lot of copies o.O

oaristos 7th April 2016 04:36 PM

Those numbers are actually pretty good, but COSMIC EXPLORER sold more than 100,000 copies less than the previous album though (165,748 copies sold in the first week).
I'm glad they got #1, but I didn't find the album very attractive. The only song that stands out for me is Pick Me Up. Story also sounds interesting, but that's all.

Isicio 7th April 2016 05:11 PM

^you are right, I miss perfume hit songs.

Corvina 7th April 2016 07:53 PM

I love the album. This new mix of (japanese) electro and EDM works really well for me, I find it more appealing than their earlier stuff. I only was a casual listener up until last year, but this album is awesome and if they continue this sound, they've won a fan more!

~kashifaita~ 7th April 2016 08:02 PM

Wow, this album really split the fandom lol. All I'm seeing in almost all the perfume sites/reviews are either 'I really hate the album' or 'I really love it'. Reminds me of the Spending All My Time days :laugh

Isicio 11th April 2016 01:46 AM

^ they sell very well, I never seen before the oricon sales for any perfume record but I am a fan since a long time ago anyway xD

I remember LEVEL3 doesn't like me, but 1mm is a gem and I'm sure I like other songs of the album.

I said before that I miss perfume hit songs and after listening Cosmic Explorer I realized that yes I don't found any perfume hit or old school song in this album.
Maybe the fact I didn't listen a lot of perfume music the last years it makes me want to listen perfume hits.

Cosmic Explorer is surprising me, the new songs have more Nakata music in they then perfume vocals. ?? XD

STORY is so great but in general in the more electronic new songs I see how the songs are like unfinished or broken in some parts and incomplete and talking about the melody of the songs I noticed that they are like incomplete too with only chorus and one verse or only verse, maybe they don't have the regular estructure of the general songs.

PURIN 11th April 2016 05:07 PM

Im enjoying the album! Especially Next Stage with You and Flash -Album Mix-!

Ningyo Hime 12th April 2016 10:33 AM

I like Cosmic Explorer but I dont think I love it, mainly because the album mixes arent as good as the originals. I'm glad Pick Me Up was left alone because its my favourite song from this era. I liked the original Star Train but it loses its power on the album, same with Cling Cling.
I do love STORY,Flash, Next Stage With YOU and Cosmic Explorer. CE is a really interesting song.

Kacku 13th April 2016 06:58 AM

I'm in love with Miracle Worker, it's a perfect pop piece for 2016 Perfume, and sooo addictive. :heart The album as a whole is kind of a step down from LEVEL3 though. None of the other new songs quite reach Miracle Worker, STAR TRAIN, and Pick Me Up's level of quality (Cosmic Explorer certainly tries, and it's a good song, but I just don't think that a sound this heavy suits Perfume very well; Next Stage with YOU sounds nice, but with how little melody there is, it also feels like Nakata just got bored with it halfway through; FLASH is just really boring melodically, but at least the album mix sounds more interesting; STORY is clearly made for the visuals; Baby Face is nice if a bit unmemorable), and many of the singles for this album weren't that great (I still fail to see any appeal in TOKIMEKI LIGHTS or Cling Cling, but at least the latter also got a spiced-up album mix), but on the bright side, I've started liking Relax In The City and Hold Your Hand more as parts of this album. I just wish Nakata found some new inspiration because I'm not loving his EDM-influenced work.

But hey, I'm happy the album sold well! :)

Zeke. 13th April 2016 06:26 PM

I'll have to download again and thoroughly listen from start to finish after the high-quality release comes out (as the initial leak stated it wasn't the best it could be).

Even so, the songs were vastly forgettable. It took me forever to get into Perfume. I felt their songs were so easy to blend together. I downloaded and deleted some of their albums twice before hearing Natural no Koishite in a CM brought me back to the trough. I really liked what they did in that era, really beginning with Triangle. The JPN era's singles were seriously some of, if not their best releases. The arrangements got more detailed, and the individual tracks began to stand on their own. I actually felt like there were strong differentiating factors between them.

Sadly, I don't feel that with this new album at all. It's very average. It's like they took the sounds from a free-for-download sample pack of EDM synths. So really, there's just not anything inherently memorable about any of them.

PURIN 14th April 2016 06:37 PM

honestly isn't the only super EDM track Story? I feel that track seems so out of place on the album ;/

kumis 19th August 2016 05:04 AM

Anyone else find it ridiculous how they keep touring the US? I'm also willing to bet that if they held a show in Toronto that it would be a lot more successful than the one they plan on having in Chicago and possibly SF as well. They have lots of fans in Australia too and it's really not fair how they're snubbing these two countries

Corvina 19th August 2016 06:20 AM

Yes, me too!
Would love them coming to Europe again to see them a second time. Especially as I'm a bigger fan now than I was at the first.
Not to mention I'd be happy for fans in countries, who haven't seen them yet.

I think they're just going to "safe venues". The US must be their second biggest fanbase after Japan, so I can see why they're doing other cities there. Maybe the production don't think that Canada or other countries out of the Europe/US/Asia circle would be successful. They never came do South America, where they have a quite big fanbase, especially here in Brazil. Maybe on next tour...

Talking about Brazil... There's a rumor going on that they'll probably perform at the Ending of Rio Olympics 2016. Since the next Olympics will be hosted at Tokyo, probably some japanese artist will perform at Rio (just ike in London). That's the source: http://chuumoku-news.com/rioolympic-heikaishiki-2263

Maybe that's true because in 8 days they'll start the US Tour, so Brazil is half way to the US. I don't know what to think about it. I'm freaking out!!

In 1 report from the show I've learned that it's a new arrangement of Perfume no Okite that's being used during this year's dome concerts :) A moment ago I found on 1 forum that the song is called "Atmospheric Entry", though. We will see soon I suppose.

pedronekoi 1st November 2016 03:37 PM

Love this!

Everytime they release something new (a song, a CM or a live) I feel very proud of them. 7 years ago I heard people saying that Perfume would be over soon because they "couldn't sing/are just girls dancing/etc" and it's so impressive what these girls and their team accomplished! I really think they are one of the best cases of J-Pop. They have done 3 successful overseas tour (out of Asia), performed at Cannes Lions Festival, at SXSW, did an exhibition in New York. That's huge! Very proud <3

CatGirl 1st November 2016 09:48 PM

The new CM looks so cool! Do we know what kind of products they'll be releasing with this collaboration?

maxikot 15th November 2016 06:17 PM

No idea :(
Wowow will broadcast the dome concert on 29/12. Here's news video

Can't wait to watch. Recently Perfume's been my thing and I must say that A-chan is one of the most adorable stage persona's I've seen. She keeps smiling in this "heart-warming" way, waving and has sparkles in her eyes <3

pedronekoi 16th November 2016 01:44 PM

Love the setlist but where's STORY? haha

maxikot 16th November 2016 02:19 PM

It should be somewhere there, it's in the video :o

Beauty4123 14th December 2016 03:39 AM

Perfume's new single, "TOKYO GIRL", will be released in February 2017! It's also the theme song for the new NTV drama, 'Tokyo Tarareba Musume', starring Yoshitaka Yuriko. "Houseki no Ame" will be the b-side. :)

adantatu2 19th December 2016 04:44 AM

My whole body is ready !!!

DeepRiver 19th December 2016 10:17 PM

"Tokyo girl" sounds like a piece of shit.

I love there older stuff but since 2012 or 13 everything sounds like old Nokia 8210 ringtones! So boring ... nothing remarkable ...

thinkingoutloud89 19th December 2016 11:03 PM

^hmm then you clearly missed a few gems here and there

edit: also, where did you here it? I thought so far only the b-side was a CM

thinkingoutloud89 20th December 2016 02:42 PM

^woher wusstest du das? tatsächlich zu 100%

edit: glaub ich hab auch alle neuen Nachrichten gelöscht XD

pedronekoi 20th December 2016 03:12 PM

"TOKYO GIRL" sounds very generic by this little teaser. :P

maxikot 30th December 2016 11:32 PM

You can watch tv version of Cosmic Explorer dome tour here (not my link) - tv version. Have checked some songs, perfume no okite sounds great and visuals there are amazing. I must say though, this dome seems less spectacular compared to previous 2 - still a really fun show, I think. My personal impression is that CE tracks feel better when you listen to them, live older songs are more interesting.

Corvina 31st December 2016 12:49 PM

Thanks for the link!
I'm always amazed at how elaborate their shows are.
But this looks like the TV version.
Do we already have a date for the DVD?

And yay to the new single, even though Idk if I will like it with the preview.

maxikot 31st December 2016 12:52 PM

Yes, it's the TV version (edited post to make it clear). I haven't heard of the actual release date.

Corvina 31st December 2016 01:22 PM

I see.
Btw. I love the new mix of Perfume no Okite.
But it's the veins of STORY, so of course I do. :laugh

thinkingoutloud89 16th January 2017 05:32 PM

^for once I disagree. looks like a cheap LEVEL 3

pedronekoi 16th January 2017 08:41 PM

They look like witches hahah But I like the concept (the glass representing the skyscrappers of Tokyo and etc) and the type design! But these outfits are terrible!

EndOfTheWorld 17th January 2017 04:27 PM

It reminds me of the black mage job from Final Fantasy X-2.:laugh
I don't hate the cover art but I don't love it either.

Omg yes! It really looks similar to it :'D

I love the song. Especially when I'm walking through my hometown at night.
