Which song do you think is Ayu's "Darkest".

I have an obsession with haunting tracks, I just want to know everyone's opinions on which song of Ayu's you find the most genuinely Haunting/Scary/Chilling etc. If you have multiple just do a list :D

Currently i'm thinking P.S II is her darkest track. There is something super icy and haunting about this track. I wish she will perform it one day live. it's possibly my favorite Ayumi song.

Besides that her other darkest tracks for me would be..

BRILLANTE
MOON
NO FUTURE
Last Minute
Marlonette
Alterna
End Of the World
SURREAL Rainbow
Moments
Is This LOVE?
& more!

Let me know your thoughts

Uknow! 9th July 2016 04:22 PM

ever free (more sad than dark)
Marionette
kiss o'kill
End of the Wold
Duty

But if I have to choose only one I'll say: GUILTY. It's her most darkest song for me.

Edit: criminal too.

Cahz- 9th July 2016 04:23 PM

GUILTY
criminal
Marionette
End of the world
BRILLANTE
ever free
Last angel

:o I haven't heard Ever Free yet! I'm pretty lazy when it comes to B-Sides, unless they make it easy to obtain by putting them together on a compilation like No Doubt's "Everythng In Time".

Listening to it now so excited. I'm a minute in and i'm already in love. I'm pretty happy i'm discovering it through you both telling me how dark it is. It will make me pay better attention :)

KarenPang 9th July 2016 04:40 PM

Aside from those already listed , I would add ourselves to the list

When I 1st heard and saw the PV , I was literally terrified . I had nightmares after watching the PV , no joke about it :dead2

Also I feel that Sweetbox melodies samples that she used in (miss)understood were really under rated especially Pride and rainy day

I feel just the PV is scary though! This is why I make sure I listen to the song a few times before watching the PV so it doesn't cloud my view on it. I'm so OCD when it comes to music lol. I have listened to all of Ayu's songs at least 3 times before watching a PV besides Crossroad.

Oh my god when I watched the Ladies Night PV for the first time I was so fucking shocked lol. I was expecting some girly night out video but it was pure J-horror. I was pretty shocked with ourselves too but happy it had an awesome PV because it is my favorite song on the EP.

P.S What happend in your nightmare? haha

KarenPang 9th July 2016 05:09 PM

When I 1st watched the ourselves PV , I was scared and I dreamt the exact same thing plot wise . It was so bad until I woke up in a cold sweat and I don't have a habit of waking up in the middle of the night so that was an exception

Ladies Night PV is interesting and yeah the ending was a bit freaky to stomach

Other dark Ayu songs I still enjoy tremendously until now include (not listed by other people yet)

- GAME
- WONDERLAND (I know it's an interlude but I had nightmares when I 1st heard it and the laughing in the background didn't helped =x)

Up to now I still think it's a waste/pity that GUILTY didn't get a PV . The concept of it would have been awesome :x

Funny thing I just listened to ever free for the first time this week haha and yes, it catched my attention from the very first moment! It will certainly become a favorite of mine. Dark songs are my favorite from Ayu's music.

lastminute 9th July 2016 08:08 PM

I'd say "reminds me" is also very dark, lyric-wise. It's also my absolute favorite track from "Party Queen".

truehappiness 9th July 2016 09:36 PM

ever free, reminds me, End of the World, criminal, kiss o' kill, Terminal, Mad World, and Breakdown IMO.

oaristos 9th July 2016 11:29 PM

ever free
criminal
alterna
End of the World
GUILTY
(miss)understood

EndOfTheWorld 10th July 2016 02:48 AM

I would agree with everyone else on the song choices.:)
I absolutely love ever free.:heart
One of my all time favorites. I find it so beautiful, sad, and dark. So much feeling in this track. I love the version found on the SEASONS single, HAL's mix 2000.

LONJJONG 10th July 2016 05:08 AM

ever free
no more words (the intro is kinda haunting...)
Duty
Don't look back
Free & Easy
Marionette
ourselves

Yes, ourselves was really scary when I first watched it on my younger days. But it has grown to be my favorite now! Alterna too.

Honey_Jae 10th July 2016 01:34 PM

Duty, Don't look back, Criminal and Mad World.

is this LOVE?! Is not a dark song but I love the PV, where everything gets broken, it's awesome and kind of dark. One of my favorite PVs and songs

pommy48 10th July 2016 06:07 PM

POWDER SNOW for me
The song doesn't necessarily sound dark, but the lyrics definitely does

Elednist 10th July 2016 09:14 PM

Aside of those already mentioned:

Do it again
count down
monochrome
Dolls

mi|kshake 10th July 2016 10:03 PM

For me it's definitely Guilty!

NintendoHTF1242 11th July 2016 05:33 AM

When I think of dark, GUILTY and reminds me come to mind.

Aderianu 11th July 2016 07:14 AM

Two of us "HAL's Mix"

xLuna&1LOVE 11th July 2016 09:53 AM

A lot of them are already mentioned. Her darkest songs are in my opinion:

Dolls
Duty
still alone
POWDER SNOW (the piano version on LOVEppears Disc 2 is so haunting!)
criminal
GUILTY
reminds me

YUKARI 20th July 2016 04:27 PM

BRILLANTE and ever free are the darkest for me

pedronekoi 22nd July 2016 08:51 PM

I looove a dark song hahah My list would be:

- End of The World
- I am... (the beat is just so deep and dark)
- Duty (from CDL 14~15/Cirque de Minuit)
- ever free (and that video from Concert Tour 2000 vol. 2 is soooo creepy and amazing!)
- alterna
- monochrome (just because of that abrupt end)

DonkeyKongRemix 24th July 2016 05:48 PM

It of course depends on what version of the song. Some of her orchestrated songs are very haunting and sound dark. I'll just put mine into categories:

Orchestrated:
I am...
Still alone
no more words
kanariya

non-orchestrated:
ever free (though any version of this song does qualify, IMO)
the next LOVE
GUILTY
NaNaNa
Party Queen
Return Road
Reminds Me
Criminal
Life
P.SII
Memorial Address (the whole feeling of being in a dream which is basically like disassociation makes this song very powerful and poignant)
RAINBOW
limit, though I know it may not count XD

I'm just gonna throw it out there... I think "too late" is one of her most troubling and darkest songs.

Evan Odinson 24th July 2016 06:24 PM

BRiLLANTE probably.

I'm not sure if Ladies Night counts as "Dark" but I have always found it creepy lol (I like it tho)

Warren 25th July 2016 02:00 AM

Alright I've counted everyone's answers to see which songs got the most mentions!
Heres the songs with at least 4 mentions.

Ever Free 8
Criminal 6
GUILTY 6
End Of the World 5
Duty 5
BRILLANTE 4
reminds me 4

P.s Ever Free has become a new favorite of mine I've had it on repeat!
I'm pretty surprised there isn't more mentions for P.S II I think that song so icy and haunting. I literally get chills when I listen to it.

Also expected more for Moon, Last Minute, NO FUTURE, petal & SURREAL!

Thank you all for your detailed replies this was so much fun to read through :D
I'm glad i'm not the only one who loves Ayu's darker side ;)

MeltingCORE 25th July 2016 02:52 AM

POWDER SNOW is one of her darkest lyrically while GUILTY is one of her darkest musically. If you want to get into remixes, evolution (Oriental Hot Spa), is her darkest song of all time. It's so dark that it's pretty much unbearable to listen to. It's a cacophonic nightmare of alien noises and distorted guitars. That being said, I actually like it, but only because it reminds me of my favorite game, Song of Saya. I swear they used noises from the game! I'm planning on making a video for Saya with the remix.

Listening to the remix now, I must say I find it strange how dark Evolution has been depicted. I never viewed it as a "Dark" track. Yet it was featured in a horror movie (Helter Skelter) and has this eerie remix. Helter Skelter is my favorite movie and I've watched it on repeat and I even listen to the soundtrack often, but still view Evolution has a happy upbeat song. It's the best song to workout to ;D

P.S This remix kind of reminds me of when the siren goes off in Silent Hill
and I NEED to play Saya no Uta. I practically only play horror video games.
