GACKT actually took Ayu's SEASONS and ran with it lol.
As far as i could get out of this, this is going to be a promo thing for the Nestlé's newest coffee machine,
to which he also filmed a music video of the song that is going to be out on the first day of the new year on the Nestlé's YouTube channel.

He has covered the song in one of his Camui Gakuen shows back in 2013 (OMG this has been 4 years already!):

Anyways, this cover might actually be the superior version of Seasons. (it's never been a favorite of mine)

GACKT needs to release a whole Ayu tribute album ASAP.

Her lyrics + his voice = heaven.

They both complement each other so well. Ayu's weakest point is GACKT's strongest (vocals) and GACKT's weakest point is Ayu's strongest (lyrics).
And they both have a flair for melodramatic performances so they're in tune.

I want to see GACKT singing "A song for xx" or "M". I can tell his voice would be killer.

I've been hoping to get a studio version agter he did it live back in april i think of last year. He did record it if he used it for a cm. I really hope he's gonna release it.


G isn't bad with lyrics whatsoever, they are quite poetic for sure but they tend to go from song to song.

He recorded a music video for it that is being released on Youtube on 1/1, so I imagine the song will be released in some format even if only digital only.

I disagree about his lyrics. The music has always been more of his talent. His early lyrics aren't bad, but for ballads in particular, they are very typical and safe and quite repetitive lyric wise. I would not put lyricism as one of his strongest assets.

I agree. His lyrics are very repetitive from song to song. It makes them forgettable.

I do adore his "Last Song" but other than that... it's all the same to me.

Not to say that he's bad. There are artists with far worse lyrics out there. Truly terrible ones. Even BoA has many songs (specially her earlier ones) that absolutely suck lyric-wise, even though they're catchy and have good music.

That's what i meant. His writting isn't bad as a stand alone piece but when you have such a vast amount of stuff they are a lot alike, usually built around lost love and stuff like that. They are beautiful but they are the same theme wise in a lot of his ballads and not just in them. He's not exploaring a lot of themes for sure or different pov's.

I hope we'll get the studio version released in at least digital format.

I truly never liked Seasons when performed by Ayu, it's one of those songs that I can stand but I don't enjoy it at all and never understood it's popularity, however, I really like it sang by Gackt.

i actually think a lot of Ayu's songs would be great sung by GACKT. I wonder, though, why he'd chosen SEASONS...

Like others, I do like Seasons but I don't view it as an Ayu classic on the level of M, Evolution, Boys & Girls etc so I wonder if I will enjoy Gackt's version more.

From what i can tell in the video it sounds a lot like the cleaner version of the live he did back in 2013.
Also if you watch the video of the making till the end, he actually does a bit of it in acapella. AWESOME.

I love Gackt, I have loved him for 12 years, his voice is heaven. However, he is one weird arse dude. Ayu is pretty regular for the most part, I don't think they would work out for so many reasons, an entire thread full of reasons. Would be adorable though, she would actually be with someone I think is good enough for her LOL

Gackt vibrates his voice a LOT, if you don't like that then I am afraid you wont like Gackt.

I'm not a fan of Gackt and not quite familiar with his music works but have always known that he and ayu are on good term for many years, seeing both of them on TV shows and that Gackt went to ayu's concert. I have high anticipation on this rock version and also the music video. Is it going to be a full version on Nescafe Youtube?

Gackt's cover is fantastic though! I hope avex will do a cover album for her 20th anniversary. They've done them for globe and trf, it would be amazing to hear other artists cover some of ayu's songs. I think Utada would even take part given ayu did a somewhat successful cover for her cover album

I didn't feel like watching the whole video, but I listened to the song and I think it fits his voice very nicely. I'm so glad he did this cover :)

Ohh yes a duet would be amazing! The video wasn't horrible, but it also wasn't that great. The lighting made GACKT look awful at times.

I'm not sure I've ever seen an MV that's basically a commercial before. So I am not sure how it would count execution wise compared to any other MV that's basically a commercial.

There were points that GACKT didn't manage to bring the right kind of UMPF for me emotion wise in his voice, compared to Ayu anyway. It also could be because I had to listen to it over the sound of Pokemon on the tv. XD

I like the arrangement! The PV isn't too bad IMO but I feel it's a bit awkward seeing the Nescafe coffee machine being highlighted throughout the PV... Not sure if I wish to see ayu's next PV has some ads/product insertion, but if the sponsorship could improve her PV quality (like WrtQ) then I don't mind.

The video was cheesy, but this cover is everything! I love how the arrangement still feels like SEASONS with enough of Gackt's usual flare to it. I also like how he changed the melody a bit

As someone who loved Gackt's old stuff I have no idea whats been going on with his voice the last few years. I just can't listen to him anymore. Its tragic. This version of Seasons is lacklustre like most of his recent releases.

i don't hate gackt's cover as much as i thought i did at first, but i still prefer the softness of the original. it hits me harder.
