^nah..it's so predictable...

Darkifrit 28th October 2017 08:08 PM

10 days before Finally’s release.
I hope they will make nice teasing all the week long to make the hype even higher!

I can't wait for the album and I can't wait for the dates of the tour to be announced.

Body Feels EXIT is great though

^

It's not that those songs are bad. But is there really a point in letting fans pick what they want the setlist to be? The majority of Japanese fans will vote for her classics, which means we're going to end up with pretty much the same setlist as the 20th Anniversary Tour, except the songs from Uncontrolled will be replaced by the new songs from Finally + her recent hits like Hero lol. Even Namie probably already knows this. I mean, the poll ends December 31st and the tour is in February. I doubt she's waiting around until the very end and then giving herself only a month to create and practice the setlist lol.

You can vote for it in the original single release, not in the album release.

ExodusUK 29th October 2017 01:31 AM

There is one positive about Namie retiring. At least Ayu doesn't look so pathetic compared to her only contemporary Koda Kumi whose career has been a disaster for the last 5 years.

EndOfTheWorld 29th October 2017 03:06 AM

As a fan I greatly appreciate whenever an artist allows fans to participate in such a big way.
I think it will be cool to hear old songs 25 years later. Most of the votes will go to the mid 90s classics yes. But there could be surprises. I know I wasn't expecting ever free to get voted in with Ayu. Genius 2000 - STYLE may not earn enough votes sadly. I really would like to see tracks from STYLE performed. Four seasons, come, Wishing On The Same Star, Fish, Lovebite. Also crossing my fingers for Dreaming I Was Dreaming but I think it might not make it.:nervous

Toniayu123 29th October 2017 10:48 AM

I've seen some Japanese people post their set list choice, and I was surprised to see many songs from recent years (stranger, dr, even wild...) so maybe the set list won't be so predictable.
And as we can vote each time from a different device, I might be getting 50.000 phones to make her sing what she should lol

DevilsClap 29th October 2017 03:14 PM

^ If most japanese voted like this then it could be cool. I enjoy like all of her recent songs

I personally would love if 'As Good As' would appear in the setlist. It's one of my faves, but I know this won't happen.

Unfortunately that's probably true. I love the classics, but Live Style 2006 was great because she performed a mix of the classics and stuff people never really expected to hear. It would be great if she did that again, with some classics but also some old stuff people probably have forgotten about by now like 「Asking Why」from Genius 2000. I'd love to see her bring back old songs like 「Love 2000」 「Speed Star」 「Exist for You」「You are the One」.

Next_Level29 29th October 2017 05:05 PM

if namie makes this tour like the other ones, she will put like 35 songs on the setlist. im expecting it to be huge, therefore i think that we will see some recommended song she usually doesnt perform! i would love to see 4seasons

R_Hikki 29th October 2017 07:11 PM

I voted for all album tracks from SUITE CHIC, STYLE, QoHP and PLAY. I don't think any will be included but whatever :P

S4MU3L 29th October 2017 11:23 PM

thinkingoutloud89 30th October 2017 12:32 AM

if I'm not mistaken it's her only single ever not top enter Oricon's Top 10 so fans were planning a massive buying to make it chart again

Chiharo 30th October 2017 02:20 PM

Too bad because it's such a great single. The b-side alone is worth it. Not to mention the great mastering it had (well, just like her other songs in that era).

S4MU3L 30th October 2017 03:12 PM

Yes it was #11 weekly. It enter in the top 10 some days though.

oaristos 30th October 2017 03:24 PM

It's really sad that some of her best releases didn't sell "well enough." It reminds me that STYLE is considered her biggest flop, even though it's close to being a masterpiece.

Gustavopc 30th October 2017 10:37 PM

Well, Kuu's discograpahy was put there a week or two before W FACE came out, so maybe they could plan on having Namie's stuff around the time Finally comes out... But I think they wanna take the most advantage possible of the physical sales of everything. For Kuu it was a nice move to bring attention to the album, but for Namie she's already at the most she could get I guess lol

haraiso 30th October 2017 10:59 PM

It's prison-themed, just like the drama the song is for. I'm guessing the video was shot back in July? When she posted a pic of those Gucci 25 shoes. Looks fun though!

Why people still compare Koda at the level of Ayu and Namie? Namie sold more than 30 million copies, Ayu more than 50 million copies, Koda only sold 10 million copies just like tons of female singers that lauched their careers after and during 99's boom: Mika Nakashima, Aikawa Nanase, BoA, Ami Suzuki, hitomi just to name a few.

Just look at the numbers Koda's biggest seller single sold 390,685 copies (not millions like ayu, Namie and Utada Hikaru singleS)

Toniayu123 30th October 2017 11:30 PM

Most of her discography is on sale on cdjapan. Just 10% though. I've been wanting to get my hands on live style 2006 but I guess I'll wait.

And yet Kuu been delivering #1 albums since 2006 :P
Kuu was at her peak during a time physical sales were already lowering in general, same as Kana Nishino e.g. It's not fair to compare those sales with singers who peaked during the 90s and earlier 2000s

Physically yes, but digital Kuu is far bigger in sales than Namie altogether (from the overal sales we know from recochoku: Kuu is around 35 million, while Namie is something around 15 million).
And btw. Kuu is at around 15 million physically.
Like gustavo said, they were popular at total different times, so their sales pattern is different.

Kumi debuted in 2000 and she has only 1 million-seller studio-album in her entire discography
While Mika Nakashima debuted in 2002 and she has 2 million-seller studio-albums

Also

Kumi's best-selling single sold 390,000 copies
While Mika -who debuted 2 years later- has 2 singles selling over 440,000 copies

Kumi is big just not THAT big

Mika debuted in 2001 and went big from the start, while Kuu wasn't big before 2004.
If you're comparing single sales of albums and singles, of course it will look different in certain aspects for every artist.

The Showtime PV is so funny & I notice the number 9225 on the jail tagcard Namie hold in the beginning of the PV

92 - her debut year & 25 - her 25th anniversary this year

It can't be a concidence isn't it ?

Darkifrit 31st October 2017 07:51 PM

I love Showtime. It's a cute song.
So far Do It For Love is the only new song i don't really care.

The PVs are okay. I like Finally's
I would love to hear longer previews of her recorded old songs. Also i'm curious about In Two and How do you feel now? sound like.

Finally release make me rediscover Damage. Never cared about it at its release but after hearing the song in Okinawa live, i love it now!

Gustavopc 31st October 2017 08:08 PM

Gustavopc 31st October 2017 09:48 PM

http://www.vh1.com/news/wp-content/u...15/03/vngl.gif

Yeah, it bothers me a lot, makes it look recycled to me, like they shot a Visee CM and decided to reuse it putting a song over it and applying slow motion to the shots. But that's my perception and I'm sorry if somehow it offended you, but to me it looked that way, not to say lazy.

ahtka-chan 31st October 2017 10:14 PM

^you should be used to recycled shi-t, since that's everything Kumi has been doing for the last seven years music and PV-wise.

Also, I still didn't understand why people were comparing Kumi with Ayumi and Namie, considering Namie and Ayumi were huge in their peak, while Kumi has never reached the same heights.

btw, loving everything about the BEST so far.

People are free to complain here, as long as it's related to the current topic and they're not being disrespectful to the artist and/or other members. :) Let's avoid shutting other people down just because they have different opinions.

ExodusUK 31st October 2017 10:19 PM

I hope when Koda Kumi retires, some people here can find enough decency to say something nice about her.

I like all of the new songs we've heard so far enough, but none of them really seem worthy of a farewell. Finally is my favorite, but it still pales in comparison to some of her best ballads.

For the videos, Finally is a huge disappointment because it feels so lazy. It seems like a collection of commercial clips, or making-of photo shoots, interspersed with a couple of cut scenes here and there. Showtime is probably one of the most quirky videos she's done in a LONG time, so I appreciate that. Do it for love she's so genuinely happy looking, which is nice -- but overall it could be any video from the past 8-10 years for her -- just her typical dancing around, looking like she's having a good time being girl, type video.

ExodusUK 31st October 2017 11:24 PM

My feelings are kinda hurt by the whole "finally" concept..like damn, we knew you looked miserable and uninterested most of the time, I feel dumb for being a fan of someone who was counting down the years to retire.

haraiso 1st November 2017 01:02 AM

Oo lord. This past page and a half lmao. Keep it cute y'all. :think

Love how fun Showtime is though. And she's gorgeous in Finally.

The thing I don't like about Do It For Love is how the 2nd half of the video totally doesn't fit with the first half. It's pretty much faux-concert footage just shoved in lmao. Like, she's even wearing a tour-style dress. Why??? What was the concept??? lol

ShiniTakashi 1st November 2017 01:05 AM

I think you guys are misinterpreting “Finally”. She’s not saying she’s glad to be over, peace out. The lyrics are about someone who has achieved everything they’ve dreamt of and are now able to finally say they’ve done what they set out to do. She no longer has to dream and can finally relax and enjoy her life as a “normal” person.

This whole “Namie always looks miserable” comment has always irked me too. Acting like she doesn’t care about what she does or her fans compared to others.

Tell 'em!

Yeah I don't think there's any reason to read into the title as her finally being able to get out of singing. More as she's finally at the point in her life where she's happy with what she's achieved and can end on good terms.

She wouldn't have gone through all the trouble of re-recording songs if she was just over everything...

It's literally the dress for the first segment in the Okinawa live LOL.

I'm really loving everything we're seeing and hearing so far.

I prefer the no lip-sync in the Finally video, it looks more emotional this way.

And Queen Namie moves her lips whenever she wants ok?

melissalove 1st November 2017 07:02 AM

The constant negativity in this theard my gosh, seriously. For me is too early to judge the album yet.

there is a difference between a being reasonable and being just plain stupid. i think the comments above showed very well that some popele don't think about what is actually happening and why.

Hm, yeah, but isn't that exactly the point?
I mean, nobody of us really knows, what her dream is or was. But with Finally and the lyrics it feels like singing is a job for her, not a passion and /or her life. Looking at the lyrics, her private life is more important. And I'm stating that without judging, cause that's ok.
Maybe it's just the fame she doesn't like about it - we will never know, unless she talks about it.
Just take the second line of the song "The day I've kept praying for has made its start at last" - that is a really strong thing to say.
And you can inerpret it both ways, positive and with a negative connotation for people hearing it.

Darkifrit 1st November 2017 10:19 AM

Give her a break, she is in the industry since she was a kid.

Yes, that's what I mean!
She's there since forever and it's the only thing she learned.
I'm all for her doing what she wants.
It's just I do feel a bit uncomfortable that I supported her and there's a chance I kept her going with it like that even though she would have liked to go earlier. (figuratively speaking)
That's all.

This is hilarious, don’t apologize for it. Everyone else can joke about the end of Namies career being her true dream come true but you cast a stone into the pit and they throw pitchforks at your ass. Ridiculous.

Toniayu123 1st November 2017 11:37 AM

^:yes
Namie's music and lyrics were never meaningful imo, so I don't think there's an actual meaning on Finally either, I won't read that deep on that song (and album). She has always delivered good visuals and fun music and that's all for me. As someone said, I also think Namie doesn't even know what she's singing specially when she sings in English lol
She has achieved what she wanted already, being the biggest pop star singer of Japan, she has been in the industry most of he life, so it's understandable she wants to experience nomal life for once.

haraiso 1st November 2017 11:56 AM

Lol I know y'all probably joking but I'm sure she knows what she's singing in English. Especially since she works with Emyli so often and that girl is bilingual.

I want to believe Namie knows exactly what she's singing when she says she's a nonstop candyshop that has never tasted so sweet. :twink

Gustavopc 1st November 2017 01:11 PM

I'm pretty sure she knows it as well tbh, she's not a random someone and has worked with people from overseas a lot. Still, I think we here on the ocident world get a feeling of "at laaast" when someone says "Finally", but probably she wanted to say "Last of all" more than "At last". Not that the word is used wrong, I think just commonly used another way. The meaning is still there, it's just not what first come to our minds.

Maemi 1st November 2017 01:24 PM

I wonder what she'll do once she retires... she'll always be recognizable and a huge celebrity, will she go overseas? Spend her days in pajamas? Perhaps invest in some business? I'm afraid that we'll never see her face again after she retires like, she might disappear completely from the public scene. And I can't help but wonder what are her dreams, because she is completely different from Ayu who always says that music is basically her life.

kaled kalil 1st November 2017 01:57 PM

I don't feel as negative as you guys feel about Finally. I'm just getting the vibe that she accomplished so much in her life, that she's so overwhelmed with emotions and finally can can settle down all of those feelings. I mean, most of us won't ever have the same feeling of reaching all of the goals in life, that you feel like you lived so much through something, and you think it's time time to rest and just enjoy the rest of the ride.

I do feel that the retirement announcement was supposed to happen during her 20th Anniversary live, and not 5 years later, but that's just how I feel.

Anyway, about the PVs: Finally is cute but it's like a CM and not really a PV for me; Showtime is cute, love her looks and how happy she is, the song is not that interesting but gets the job done; Do It For Love is the best song, but couldn't she learn some choreography for this? Love the beginning and the tunnel scene, but the rest is just... there.

Gustavopc 1st November 2017 01:57 PM

I do think she'll retire from the public scene, but ever since she moved to Dimension Point she said she's interested in producing new artists, and I think that's what she'll focus on. Still being in the music industry, but behind the curtains.
She might even wanna work with her son, who knows? :P

Subtitled news report on NEWS ZERO -broadcast date Oct. 2nd- related to Finally (song + best), her 25th live anniversary concert in Okinawa, and her retirement overall if someone is interested (download only, no streaming): https://winkychan.dreamwidth.org/112146.html

Transcript (parts about Finally -the song- only):
Quote:

MC 1: In tonight's ZERO CULTURE, we went to interview Amuro-san, what kind of feelings did she put into the song "Finally" ?

Voiceover: What kind of feelings were put into the ZERO theme song ? Last month, Amuro-san told us this at the location for the closing part of the live.
Namie: What sort of song should be presented, I thought about this a bit, but somehow, among the songs to be released, there is a song which is a great tune and seems to fit the program, so this song is proposed.

Voiceover: Only 4 days after this live (25th anniversary live concert in Okinawa), Amuro-san announced her retirement on September 16th 2018, one year later. Next month, her best album compilation "Finally" compiling her great works among these 25 years will be released.
Meanwhile, Amuro-san's choice for ZERO's theme song was the same as the title of the album, "Finally".

Namie: Originally it was a bit sorrowful just listening to the song, while I was not drawn to such sorrowful part of the song, I wanted to make it a bit positive, a bright kind of song, comparatively, because there is such an image as well for the TV program, and for the direction of my lyrics. So the lyrics were also revised like this.

Voiceover: Amuro-san requested to revise the lyrics many times. Inside the lyrics, there was this expression: "To the bright future".

Namie: I want to sing something that is as bright and positive as possible. If it's sad and sorrowful, because somehow I will also be drawn to it, and I think it will be the case for the person listening to it as well, even for myself who is singing, somehow, I want it to be pleasantly bright.

Voiceover: To be positive, such thought is put into Finally.
(Finally plays) Finally I can stop dreaming / The day I've been wishing for has just started / Finally I can stop wishing / A black and white world is brushing with colors from this moment / A whole new story starts on this stage I am standing / I can be stronger because I have something to hold on to / Getting into an unknown world with the brilliant sunlight / Spreading my arms because I will accept your everything / To the bright future Finally

MC 2: The song "Finally" contains the lyrics "I can stop dreaming", not "I can't stop dreaming" but "I can stop dreaming", what feeling of hers is behind this lyrics, it is a song that is surprising to the audience. As seen in the VTR, Amuro-san asked for a revision of the lyrics, this is a song with lots of thoughts by Amuro-san, it is delightful to have this as the theme song.

MC 3: Right so. Finally, the ending of one thing is the start of another thing.

And who do you think you are to call other people "stupid" for disagreeing with you? That is literally one of the most disrespectful things you could say in a forum.

I think you're the one not thinking before commenting. Be nice to other people.

Btw I forgot to comment Showtime: I didn't like the preview but the whole thing is great! The PV is really well done, the best of this batch, the looks were good and the choreography was very different from her usual routines, nicely done.

K, maybe I went too far saying there's no meaning on Finally. My apologies. Still, don't find the lyrics to be as "meaningful" as they could.

Edit: didn't I read somewhere she found out the meaning of WANT ME WANT ME's lyrics after the single was released and was surprised of them? That's why I sometimes think she doesn't know what she's singing about.

Hmm still seems like you did not understand a thing. Everyone is entitled to an opinion - but there is a difference between "urgh, I just don't like it because it is so lazy" and "I don't like the new MV because she does not even move her mouth". But still, the latter is just weird mind-vomit of an opinion. As its is a visual medium, you can very well analyze if something is there just because they wanted to or if they wanted to underline something. It is pretty clear the director wanted to go for a very pure image here where nothing distracts to much form the lyrics itself. I haven't read any comment which explains why the video would have been better with lip-synch and what value it would have added to the actual video.

Just voicing something like "blah i hated it" is very school-kid-ish.

You guys are so patronizing and insulting "it's not like Namie thinks about anything" "it's not like she understands"..she's not a child! Please show her some RESPECT (the power of love).

I completely agree, Some comments on here are just over the top. It’s ok to voice your dislike but out right insulting the artist with comments like “ finally she can stop giving a f**” and “namie doesn’t even know what she’s singing”. It’s disrespectful to her and as a fan I’m offened. But if namie fans would’ve been saying something like that about ayu, forget it. Hell would freeze over and these members would’ve been bullied and insulted terribly. It has happened before and it’s not fair that just because it’s namie and not ayu people can be so condescending.

Zahara 1st November 2017 06:47 PM

I can't believe what I'm reading. If Namie didn't understand something, don't you think she'd have somebody translate it to her? To insinuated that she just sings and knows nothing is really rude.

And to the discussion above that turned hostile, you really need to chill. The past few pages you have been outright attacking people. This thread should be about news and discussion that's positives and constructive, not insulting other opinions as stupid.

hud 1st November 2017 06:53 PM

ok when will the album leak? I need those bops in my life
