Not surprised, we probably get some glowing-in-the-dark performances again as it's connected to AND TOUR.
Which is why her performing NEVER ENOUGH and OUTTA MY HEAD makes sense as well. :laugh

Reading some comments on Twitter and Insta.. People mention how awesome it was sitting higher on the stands, but nobody mentions why! xD. Some even recommend having 2nd or 3rd floor seats (like Kuu did).
Reading more some say the concert is on arena tour level and one guy even says it instantly became on of his favourite tours.
She talked about Namie in her MC. She recently went to a w-inds concert.

The Japanese articles all mention, that it's a futuristic theme with a high entertainment value (and even say it's overwhelmingly impressive and a must-watch concert this year).

The goods setup.is even better at night:

The curtain BEFORE the concert:

The middle parts start rotating when the concert starts, saw a video on Insta.

The streamers are metallic blue this time:

Do you guys wanna know more?
Apparently the stage has a lot of LEDs, the floor, too. The floor is movable and changes to have some slopes at the side at one point.
There seems to be more than one "flying" performance, she even does some with her dancer Ooba.

DevilsClap 14th September 2018 07:52 PM

Sounds so interesting already! Do we know what songs she performed with the Pink outfit on? the beginning songs?

Gustavopc 14th September 2018 09:10 PM

If there are some tricks to the stage floor I hope the footage makes it justice :P

hud 14th September 2018 09:53 PM

her tours always seem like so much fun. only the queen of live!

Three of my favourites all together!
Her mid-tempo pop stuff is always and forever my favourite of her stuff.

This is how the stage looks like after the concert https://www.instagram.com/p/BnvkdY6BP76/

I looks simple but I'm very excited to see how it works. And it's also very different from the picture with the pink outfit. Can't wait to see more of it.

It's hard to judge the stage with pictures like this. I remember when Dejavu Tour was happening and we got a picture of the stage, after the concert, and it was so weird seeing all those cardboard cutout, with the style of the pamphlet. haha

Taru86 15th September 2018 02:01 PM

I just got back for the show tonight, and it was so good! I love Kuu's shows so much. I've seen her live six times now twice during the singles collection tour, three times during the w/face tour, and now tonight. I'm always amazed at her energy from start to finish at every show. She is so great to watch live, and her vocals were great for the entire show.

Here's my brief overview of the show.

Spoiler:

The entire show had a video game theme to it which was really cool at some parts and super cheesy in the best way possible at some parts. There were several times that I could help but laugh at how silly and fun some parts of the videos were, they were so “Koda Kumi-ish” I loved it lol

So she wore a pink outfit with a long ponytail during the start of the show, then when “HAIRCUT” started they brought out a bunch of salon chairs and Kuu sat in one with her back to the audience. They show a close up of her ponytail on the big screen, and then one of her dances cut it off with a pair of scissors. She then put on a long purple wig and she started singing. At one point the dancers started blow-drying the wig with hand dryers, and the wig changed colors, from purple to hot pink. She eventually got out of the chair and pulled off the bottom part/extentions of the wig so that it was sholder length. Eventully she took the pink with off with a bunch of dancers in from in her and revealed a short green wig styled very similarly to her short hair during the Trick tour. Near the end of the song she left the stage and there was a video on the screen showing Kuu posing in outfits from previous tours, such as kimono outfit from the walk of my life tour, the flight attendant outfit from Universe tour, and show girl outfit form the Trick tour. Kuu can back on stage in a kimono inspired outfit and a shoulder-length blond wig and finished the song.

They brought 3 fans on stage during HOT HOT and Kuu grinded on them while they sat in the salon chairs. Lol.

She wore a long white dress for 心からI love you – Never Enough. At the end of Koi no Tsubomi when the music stopped Kuu started singing the first couple words of the chorus again, but then goes “oh, it’s over” and laughed a little. It was really cute.

After NEVER ENOUGH she changed into a red dress for OTTA MY HEAD. At the end of OTTA MY HEAD she took off the bottom of the dress and went to perform the aerial move where she wraps herself the cloth hanging from the ceiling, but instead of tumbling down until she’s hanging upside down, like usual, she just got lifted into the air, was in the air for a while and lowered back down, it was really weird. But she later addressed that in the encore saying that something got stuck and so the move didn’t go as planned and that it was a huge mistake. She said that she really wanted to show us how it was supposed to go and asked if we still wanted to see it. Of course the audience started screaming that we wanted to see it. They then brought the cloth back out and replayed just that section of the song where she went up in the air. When she was in the air right before the trick she yell something along the lines of “here I go, everyone watch me!” and she performed the trick perfectly. Once she was back on the ground they showed the footage of her messing up during the actual performance again, and she started yelling about how embarrassing it was. Lol. But she said she redid the trick in the encore because it was only the second date of the tour, and that if she messes up on any of the other dates she’s not redoing it. It was a special “one-time-only” event Lol.

During the rest of the main show she was in a sports top and baggy pants. WATCH OUT had a kind of basketball theme to it. During the performance of ScREaM she was in the air the whole time with really funny random cartoony stuff happening in the background. I laugh several times at how fun and silly it was.

At the start of the encore there was a choice between 1.Popin’ Love Cocktail, 2.Life so Good, and 3.Lady Go! Every cheered for Lady Go! the most. It then showed a fan on the screen and asked which song they wanted to hear, the fan held up 3 fingers for Lady Go! so that’s what kuu sang.

The MC during the encore was SUPER long. Like I’ve been to 6 of Kuu’s concerts now, and this on by far felt like it had the longest MC. Kuu certainly can talk for a very long time! Lol but she was super cute and funny the whole time, she answered some questions from her fan club members and she explained the whole mishap during OUTTA MY HEAD.

However the was another mishap that happened during the show that she talked about. I can’t remember which song it was, maybe Lady Go!, it was one of the songs where she usually swings a towel around. But when she came on stage she forgot to bring her towel with her so one of the dancers gave her their towel to use. At the end of the song the kiss the towel and threw it into the audience as usual.

During the MC the showed the fan who caught the towel and she said that she felt bad that he didn’t get her actual towel, so she had a staff member run back stage and bring out her towel. She then kissed it and had a staff member go switch towels with the fan. Lol

Over all it was an amazing show and I loved every part of it. My favorite performances where definitely HAIRCUT, ScREaM, and Guess Who is Back. Kuu definitely never disappoints and I can’t was to see the show again this upcoming Monday!

Lol. Thanks for your review! The haircut performance sounds so awesome. Would you happen to know why Kuu said it would be better to have seats farther away from the stage?

Taru86 16th September 2018 01:09 AM

^Yea, I was on the 3rd floor and think that I had a pretty good view. Throughout the whole show there was a lot of interaction with the screens, the big one in the back and the moving ones on the floor. So probably being too close to the stage you might be at a wierd angle or not able to see everything that's going on.

Today's KODA KUMI LIVE TOUR 2018 ~DNA~ setlist in Kumamoto is almost the same as Fri's Fukuoka setlist

http://tieba.baidu.com/p/5883970885

Instead of Lady Go! , Kuu sung Poppin' love cocktail today

I have a feeling from Song 19 onwards , it's the encore segment

Oh you're right, I didn't mention anything about Guess Who Is Back. :P There aren't any props or choreography or anything during the performance, I just really love the song and it's super powerful live!

I just got back from the Kumamoto show, and once again it was great! I had an amazing time:)

If I can, I definitely want to go again. :luv2

Here's a few things that stood out in tonight's performance:

Spoiler:
Kuu didn't have any problems with the aerial trick that she messed up on in Fukuoka.

During HUSH while Kuu was dancing near the edge of the stage she almost fell off the stage and screamed into the mic really loud.

At the end of LIT when the tape/streamers shoot out into the audience, Kuu accidentally yell "Come on Fukuoka...Kumamoto!" which was kind of funny.

The song selection for the encore was between Popin' love cocktail, LIFE so GOOD, and WHAT'S UP, and the fan selected in the audience chose Popin' love cocktail.

During the MC Kuu talked about how she has so many nicknames, and talked about what other artist call her. She mentioned that ayu calls her Kuu-chan.

One of the questions from the one of the fan club members as asking how she can learn to talk as fast as Kuu and how to be as interesting as her. Kuu then when on to talk about how during the earlier years of her career avex told her that she wasn't allowed to talk during lives and events. She said that it wasn't until about 4 years into her career that she was able to start talking more. She also mention that the very first time she performed at a-nation she was instructed to sing and not talk at all, but during the performance she still said stuff during the songs to try to pump up the audience, but didn't get a very good reaction. She said the reactions she got were more like "Who does the girl think she is?" Which was hard on her considering big artists such as "ayu-senpai" were there performing too.

One of the fan club messages was from an 8-year-old girl who said her dream is to be one of Kuu's dancers one day. Kuu told her to keep at it and maybe ten years from now she could join the team, even though Kuu will be 45 by then. She asked the girl what her favorite song is, and she said ai no uta. Kuu then said that ai no uta isn't a song to dance to, and the joked about making a dance version of it.

Also it was one of the fan club members' birthday, so Kuu sang happy birthday to her, and they had happy birthday with balloons written on the big screen in the back.

After seeing the show a second time now, I have to say that ScREaM is probably my favorite performance of the show. It's so silly and fun. I was a little indifferent about the song before, but now I love it. :P

Also here's what I can remember from the MC from the second Fukuoka date, if anyone's interested:

Spoiler:
A fan club member asked about fragrances, and if Kuu would ever consider making one for men. But she said that she had never really thought about it.

Another member asked which makes her more nervous, performing during concerts or on TV. She said that both make her nervous, but she doesn't really like doing TV performances as much. Before a performance and gets super nervous and feels like she has to go to the restroom a lot, but as soon as the music starts playing she transforms into the artist Koda Kumi, and all of her nerves go away.

Another fan talked about how CHANCES ALL gives her strength, and asked which so was Kuu's favorite from the album. Kuu said that her favorite song from AND is NEVER ENOUGH, and talked about several songs from DNA but said that HAIRCUT is one of her favorites.

maze 17th September 2018 07:15 PM

Damn those shoes.

My only complaint about the tour setlist is Work That being in the encore. That song is fire it deserved to be in the main part of the show :(

And I would change Is this trap? for BUT and that medley would have been perfect!!

KuuXAyu-fan 17th September 2018 10:08 PM

Hey guys is Viagogo reliable for Kuu tickets? I'm planning a last minute trip to Tokyo to see Kuu on her two dates there and want to buy from there as it seems easy to buy as a foreign fan and they even let you choose which section to sit in. Is there another way to buy tickets for foreign fans that is better and easy to understand? Would really appreciate some help with this.

KarenPang 18th September 2018 09:08 AM

^ I don't have any experience buying tickets via Viagogo but I don't think you should take the risk to do that cos in Japan's context , the only way you know your seats is when you receive the ticket

I never heard in Japan where you're able to choose your seating ticket arrangement in advance . In here yes cos tickets are sold on 1st come 1st serve basis

Someone also asked about this in the previous Kuu thread and Corvina gave the same thoughts ie. both of us don't trust buying Kuu's concert tickets from Viagogo

It's either you get hold of tickets via

- Kuu's fanclubs

- the general ticket sale balloting

- auction sites ; for this some sellers would post photos of the tickets and at times state which row/seat number . Naturally if the seat number is good , you'll be expected to pay a premium & not the actual face value of the ticket cost

- buy last minute issued tickets on the day you plan to go or check online if people plan to sell tickets on the day of the concert

The last 1 is the most risky to me

===

DNA 4th week position/sales - #89 ; 505
Total 4 week sales - 18,578

http://tieba.baidu.com/p/5884938283

===

This's weird , a Baidu user wrote that Kuu supposedly will be featured in Jolin Tsai's new album CYBER LOVER o_O

http://tieba.baidu.com/p/5884931354

Many other Baidu users who commented on the thread said it's false and they rather see Jolin collaborate with Hirai Ken , AI if not Ayu lol

kaled kalil 18th September 2018 12:32 PM

The collab is probably fake, but I would be here for it. It has been such a long time since the last time she did a collab with a female artist.

Hope DNA's sales reach at least 20k.

WKKW has pictures of the stage and the outfits for the tour (they asked not to share anywhere else). The stage looks really cool, this really should be an arena tour for sure.

lovethatkuu&ayu 18th September 2018 12:45 PM

Thanks for the consistent updates Karen. DNA will probably chart for another 5 weeks. Should break 20k considering AND sold 19k.

Yikes, at those sales for THE RAMPAGE....

LDH and avex invested a lot in those boys and they had trouble breaking 35k. TWICE just murdered them last week.

kaled kalil 18th September 2018 01:25 PM

Backstage of the tour, you can see the stage, how it works and all.

lovethatkuu&ayu 18th September 2018 01:48 PM

^Thanks for the video. The stage design is great. Definitely could have been an arena show going by the investment here.

Gustavopc 18th September 2018 02:29 PM

The rumour of a Jolin x Kuu collab to me sounds more like a joke on Namie's retirement, like... someone gotta be there instead, oh let's call that koda girl :laugh I'd love to see that happen, but yeah not feeling the rumour.

The stage looks sooo good, oh my :heart

lovethatkuu&ayu 18th September 2018 03:19 PM

No interest at all in a collaboration with Tsai. Next.

KarenPang 18th September 2018 03:37 PM

lol the Baidu thread has been deleted , figures haha

Also regarding viagogo , I wanted to add on that my mum purchased tickets & went to see a concert last Friday in Hong Kong and her seats were surprisingly good

I don't know how would that work out for Kuu's case though but for my mum , the tickets were shipped out to her the next day from Hong Kong after she made her purchase online

I wonder why my mum didn't request the tickets to be sent to the hotel that my mum + her friend stayed in Hong Kong cos I thought it was odd . Turns out , viagogo don't have such an option made available

Linoa62 18th September 2018 03:50 PM

^
As someone who follows Jolin's news closely, I can tell you that was totally fake anyway...

Gustavopc 19th September 2018 01:59 PM

Random post of the day: I'm listening to Color the Cover and ugh that was such an amazing era. Music, visuals, TV lives, everything was just on point :heart I'd love to see another cover album from her in her 20th anniv (or sooner :P )

lovethatkuu&ayu 19th September 2018 03:23 PM

I actually wouldn't mind a cover album in March and a regular album in August again. Tie the projects together with a vintage J-Pop idol theme (think Seiko) and then a cool modern J-Pop theme.

I'd love to see her cover Shizuka Kudo again.

avex Taiwan posted this video commentary of Kuu on their Facebook regarding the Taiwan press of DNA

https://www.facebook.com/avextw/videos/339252963480198/

The 1st part of the video Kuu said hello & her name in Mandarin x) and then she switched to Japanese

Kuu said that the Taiwan press of DNA includes a separate Mandarin lyrics translation sheet for all the songs found in the album

Also , Kuu commented that the material in DNA comes from her heart , be it what emotion or thought she has that went into each song in the album

Lastly Kuu hopes that fans can read + understand each of the track's lyrics in DNA better with the help of the translation sheet

That would be a nice scheme for next year, indeed. Something I'd love to see is her doing eurobeat covers, it would be so cool and it can fit your idea

((avex hope you're reading this thread))

I like how she talks about it like the previous Taiwan presses of her releases didn't include translations :laugh

lol yeah that's so weird . Maybe Kuu didn't know all the while her releases that avex Taiwan made all come with traditional mandarin lyrics translation sheets

Corvina 20th September 2018 12:25 PM

Kuu is making headlines again.

Sky Perfect asked people between 15 and 69 years through the whole country, who is suitable to be the female singer after Namie Amuro (Who do you wanna listen to on TV? was the question apparently).
It was a internet survey conducted 08/29 - 08/30.

Kuu topped the full ranking!

01. Koda Kumi
02. Kana Nishino
03. Perfume
04. Ayumi Hamasaki
05. E-girls

You can see the news e.g. here:

http://news.nicovideo.jp/watch/nw3904778

http://news.livedoor.com/lite/articl..._amp/15333780/

Till now I didn't believe Namie's retirement would change anything for Kuu, but maybe it might eventually?

lovethatkuu&ayu 20th September 2018 01:51 PM

I'm not surprised by this. I always felt that Kumi and Kana would probably gain fans following Namie's retirement. Both have a youthful appeal that could attract a new audience.

Gustavopc 20th September 2018 02:23 PM

As much as I'm happy Kuu topped this survey, it's kinda sad all these names have already been around for a while, e-girls is the "youngest" artist there and they've been around since 2010 or 2011 I guess? So many female jpop singers were around during 2000s and so few came up in 2010s :/

I actually predicted this. I wrote my master thesis on japanese idils and all the sources on Namie stated that she left a void when she went into her maternity-break which was rhe only reason artist like Ayu had a path to rise to fame.

Gubsi 20th September 2018 04:46 PM

^true, you talked about this when we were discussing what will happen after Namie?
Kuu has the whole package and with stuff like her viral thing etc the stars are aligned for her. it just depends how her label is handling this. so if she’s the next one, she probably going back to be more mainstream. so let’s see

KuuXAyu-fan 20th September 2018 05:02 PM

As long as she chooses songs like HAIRCUT and WATCH OUT to be the main promotional tracks for her releases there won't be any chance of a mainstream comeback. She had a smash hit waiting to happen with Kokorokara i love u but didnt give it a PV or perform it on TV.

lovethatkuu&ayu 20th September 2018 05:51 PM

Didn't she say she purposely wanted to challenge the audience? I understand her logic, but I am frustrated that she is being a bit stubborn in some ways.

That said, she's in a good position going into her 20th anniversary. A BEST with a strong promotion campaign could be the spark that cause a commercial rebirth for Kumi.

Corvina 20th September 2018 06:11 PM

Hm, I don't think Kuu is ever going to be really popular again.
She is a similar package like Namie as an artist, but her character is pretty much the polar opposite of hers.
And flashy and progressive characters like Kuu's just aren't trendy at all at the moment.
Kuu also seems to be happy with where she is now. Not to mention that she is quite critical with (Japanese) society in her songs in recent years and I don't think she ever wants to fully bend to that pressure again.
I do think she might gain more attention with the general public again now, but that will probably only be reflected in higher streaming numbers and more concert attendees and stuff like that (like her viral Tik Tok hit this summer).
But of course I could also be totally wrong.

By the way both Tokyo dates are officially sold out now.

voltron 20th September 2018 06:21 PM

^ I agree. I think Kuu's situation is really similar to Ayu's in that sense - they are both doing what THEY want to do in the way they want to do it - which is counter to the current trends. They certainly have it in them to be more mainstream, but it's not what they're going for - not in their "DNA" if you will. :)

But I would love for both of them to garner more public respect again, even if it doesn't translate to sales.

I feel something in commom with that. She uses sexy appeal as girl power, IDK, but in a traditional (sexist) society like Japanese lyrics like HAIRCUT stimulates changes and non conforming situations "be whatever you want to be", "cut your hair", "it doesn't matter what they say".

Well, I agree and disagree, Kuu and Ayu are in a similar situation and also aren't, but that's another topic, haha.
But you do remind me of something regarding both of them.
One of the top voted comments on the big IGN video of Ayu's Pride performance with parts of her speech was one saying that Ayu sounds more and more like Kuu.
It was meant in a negative way, refering to Kuu's direct way of talking and her way of pointing to situations most Japanese are uncomfortable to talk about (like the acceptance of homosexual love).
But I felt so proud reading that, cause this was indirectly a compliment to Kuu (and Ayu of course) and this is one of the things I love about her.

lovethatkuu&ayu 20th September 2018 06:56 PM

That is a valid point. I don't think Kumi is interested in pandering anymore to mainstream tastes. Ayumi seems like she's over the constant pandering too. Massive popularity in Japan does mean having to conform and place yourself in sync with the public.

With W FACE and AND/DNA, I think she's made it pretty clear that she wants to do things her own way.

KarenPang 20th September 2018 06:57 PM

avex Taiwan uploaded another video of Kuu via their Facebook

https://www.facebook.com/avextw/vide...6619585568284/

For this , it's a DNA Question & Answer video part 1 which's highly likely more of such videos will be uploaded hopefully in days to come

My Traditional Mandarin reading skills is not good cos I was taught Simplified Chinese in school but I try my best to translate what Kuu was asked & also her response

Anyway here's what I was able to translate , it's not 100% accurate I tried my best

Spoiler:
avex Taiwan : Please let your long time no see Taiwanese fans know about your thoughts on AND and DNA

Kuu : I've been to Taiwan several times and my husband's mum is actually Taiwanese

As such , I have quite a strong emotional connection towards Taiwan & I visit Taiwan regularly for private holiday

Usually during every year end , I will go to Taipei 101 to see the countdown fireworks and usher in the new year together with others

Taiwan really makes me feel very welcome everytime I return back to the country

I heard that my Taiwanese fans like to access my Instagram account and other form of SNSes to communicate with me online

Even though we're not living in the same country , my fans & I mentally have the same connection which makes me feel very happy

This year I released AND during Spring and in Summer , I released DNA

I chose to name AND as so is because of the theme 'Fans AND Me' , a bond connection between me and my fans

Another reason why I choose AND is the theme 'Music AND Me'

For DNA , I hope everyone can appreciate this album by experiencing my music DNA

These 2 albums have a wide variety of music genres which everyone can enjoy

You have ballads that I love , dance fast paced numbers that people will like and also rock too

This time round , the 2 albums are packed filled with contents and I hope everyone will enjoy them respectively

===

lol Kuu didn't really answer the question until the 2nd 1/2 of her answer haha

I had no idea Kenji's mum is Taiwanese and also that she chose to spend the year end in Taiwan :O

Gustavopc 20th September 2018 08:41 PM

^ thanks for the translation, Karen! It's so sweet the way she regards international fans <3

I feel pretty much the same. Even later in her life, Namie kept an ''idol'' persona in some aspects, while Kuu has pretty much always been an ''anti-idol''. I don't mean any of these in a good or bad way, just that what they decided to do with her careers is just not the same, be it lyrics-wise or sound-wise.

At most I tink Kuu will have a bit more attention for anime and/or dorama tie-ins, maybe also for non-album stuff (like releasing a proper single lol I can't even remember which was the last single to have an outdoors shooting), but being where Namie was... Well, that's just pretty much where she didn't head to. She packed her stuff on Bon Voyage and departed on another journey after all :P

What makes me happy the most about this survey is that given how Namie grew over the years after her fall and has so much respect from the Japanese audience, it's amazing they thought of Kuu after her. Plus, it's even better they remembered her at all :laugh

DNA Question & Answer video part 2 that avex Taiwan posted on their Facebook

https://www.facebook.com/avextw/vide...4444794296203/

Here's what I was able to translate , give or take

Spoiler:
avex Taiwan : Where do you get your inspiration from regarding the lyrics found in both AND or DNA ?

Kuu : This time round , I more or less was responsible for writing lyrics regarding both albums

I usually will pick the song's melody 1st which's then followed by the lyrics

I will let a composer worked on the melody 1st and then I will start to write lyrics

When I listen to the song's melody , I will keep listening to it repeatedly until I get any inspiration to pen down lyrics for the song

This was how CHANCES ALL was created , the same thing happened to HAIRCUT too

I kept listening to HAIRCUT's melody until I was able to write down the lyrics for the song

I prefer doing this , instead of keep thinking in my heart 'Write something , write something'

For me I always keep listening to a song's melody multiple times and somehow what I plan to write seems to come by easily from my brain

lol it doesn’t matter if Kuu wants to gain more attention or not.
if the general public will focus on her, she gets the main attention, simple as that.
and it also doesn’t matter if she has abominations like WATCH OUT... even namie had songs that weren’t that "mainstream" friendly at the time of release.

J-Pop doesn’t really have that many great artists with a full package tho.
her image has changed... she went from being the "shame of kyoto" to the "??? of kyoto", can’t remember what the title was/ it’s from an interview around the WoL release.
she's married, has a family and is a great entertainer.
with things like her viral Megumi tiktok thing and stuff and being #1 on LINE music etc she got attention from the youth, which is mainly were trends and artists begin to flourish if y’all have ANY idea how the music industry and trends/newcomers works now.

she has probably one of the better chances to get the spot.
i don’t want to say she will, but looking at the other options... hmmm not really tbh.
let’s see what the GP will choose in the end.
but with avex tumbling down more and more they probably gonna push someone to get more attention and money again.

Oh absolutely! They have some very different things working against them. I just meant in the sense that they're both doing what they want vs. what is mainstream, and I don't see that as likely to change.

Past all of that, the bigger issue is that the general (music-buying) public just isn't that interested in solo acts these days, especially female solo acts - unless you are Namie or Hikki. I do hope that AVEX will start throwing more money into Ayu and Kuu, who are their best bets for success (short of finding some phenomenal new talent) - but I can't see them doing that for very long if they don't see a return on that investment, especially without having money coming in from Namie anymore.

I was looking at AVEX's site a while back, and their report basically said their strategy is a lot of the things that everyone complains about. Their strategy is to increase concert ticket cost, which over the course of a tour makes a huge difference. They also focus on FC membership, etc. I'm not sure they're really focused on or all that interested in just album sales vs. higher-margin activities.

pedronekoi 21st September 2018 05:00 PM

She's still popular but I don't think that the fact that she's being on the spotlight will reflect on her sales. As Corvina said, her TiK ToK song (Megumi no Hito) was a big hit between the young people (even tho some people didn't even knew it was a cover by Kumi - I've said that to people that made tik tok videos with the song and they were shocked it was hers lol). I feel that everytime I say I like Koda Kumi here in Japan people kinda of laugh of me because the only image they get from her is being the Butterfly/Cutie Honey girl or being the extra gyaru personality (now that I'm learning japanese I can tell that the way Kuu speaks is extremelly youngish, with a lot of slangs and stuff like that) so is like I'm telling it as a joke, like you're not supposed to really like her music or you should listen to it as a joke. I don't know.

Afaik that slang is a mixture of mostly Kansai-ben and some modern linguistic phenomenons like colloquial and internet words.
Kuu is often making fun while talking or writing as well, which is why I'm not surprised by such reactions (and it fits to her character, which is why I mentioned it before).
Not so uncommon for somebody coming from Kansai, cause Kansaiers are often seen as more harsh (cause direct) and well, funny, at least that was told to me (and also experienced). But also more welcoming and down-to-earth usually, especially by foreigners.
It's always interesting to hear about such experiences, cause mine were a bit different. Most Japanese I talked about her to were surprised, but they know her for her cool/strong image and didn't think she's a joke. But I was living in a smaller town more on the countryside and not in a big city.
Well, and I was in the Kansai region, so probably not a surprise to hear more positive views on Kuu. :laugh

I love Kansai. Whenever Japanese people ask me whats my favorite place in Japan and I say Osaka, they're always amused and say, "I don't think people in Osaka are Japanese" because they're more outgoing than the rest of Japan.

But this reminds me of the Walk Of My Life tour I went to in Osaka, there were these two elderly ladies walking through the park wondering who was performing and when they read the sign one of them said "It's Koda Kumi-sama!" and I thought it was really cute for them to refer to her like that.

DNA Question & Answer video part 3 that avex Taiwan posted on their Facebook today

Here's what I was able to translate , give or take

https://www.facebook.com/avextw/videos/707065306340551/

Spoiler:
avex Taiwan : How much time did you spent in shooting the HAIRCUT PV ?

Besides this , are there any unforgettable or interesting moments you can share with us when the HAIRCUT PV was filmed ?

Kuu : This time round I filmed 3 videos for DNA - HAIRCUT , WATCH OUT!! ~DNA~ & CHANCES ALL

All the 3 videos were shot together within the same day and 2 days were used to edit the footages

HAIRCUT PV footages were edited in 1 1/2 days . The video shooting process took so long until I realised 'I've been doing this for 18 years and yet this video shooting was done until so late into the night' ( x) )

Time does not stop it keeps going but lately when I filmed music videos , they're done so fast until it felt as though time did not went by so quickly

I usually will start filming music videos in the afternoon and everything will be finished by night time

A lot of past music videos I filmed , the process usually will take very fast

But lately I realised avex is still stuck in a 90s bubble , sometimes I can be filming music videos until in the middle of the night or the next day

That said , I feel this time round the 3 PVs I've created for DNA are nice to watch

Nowadays the usage of CG effects in music videos is a lot more than compared to the past . This time round , I didn't use much CG effects in the 3 videos I've made for DNA

The 3 PVs I made for DNA , they were filmed in a different manner from my usual music videos so that fans can watch them from a new perspective

I have long hair in the HAIRCUT PV with me taking out the blonde wig that I was wearing in the video and then I have short hair within a few seconds

Beside this , CG effects are used in the scene when numerous butterflies flew into me and also when I stretched out both my arms

I really enjoy shooting the PV for HAIRCUT , it makes me very happy

Also HAIRCUT & WATCH OUT!! ~DNA~ PVs are interlinked with each other , plot wise so I hope my fans enjoy watching the music videos

Wow I thought the 1st question avex Taiwan asked which Kuu answered was long , this's even longer o_O

Kuu can get long winded & don't really answer the question until much later on but nonetheless I appreciate what she said especially when comes to the creation of her PVs

Here's what I was able to translate , give or take

Today is also the last video that avex Taiwan has posted on Kuu :s

Spoiler:
avex Taiwan : Lastly , please say a few words to your Taiwanese fans

Kuu : My current ongoing new tour KODA KUMI LIVE TOUR 2018 ~DNA~ , this time round is a lot more entertaining and fun

In fact I feel that KODA KUMI LIVE TOUR 2018 ~DNA~ is more entertaining compared to last year's tour that I did

KODA KUMI LIVE TOUR 2018 ~DNA~ has a cool high tech futuristic theme incorporated onto it and it's a hall tour

If any of my fans come to Japan , please come and see me perform ! You will have a great time in my concert(s) and I will feel very happy if you enjoy what I have put up for you guys

I also keep hoping that I can go back to perform in Taiwan again

On that note to all my Taiwanese fans , let's meet again next time . I'm Koda Kumi , signing off for now !

Definitelly!! Her Kansai personality is amazing. I really like the Kansai accent and the way of speaking but, as you said, maybe because I'm in Tokyo, people have this kinda of prejudice about it. I don't know. Like yesterday I went to a karaoke with a lot of Japanese and I decided to sing Butterfly and the video was actual the PV and people started laughing at all the sexy scenes/acting but in a really weird way.

I think that's probably cause they're a bit uncomfortable with it, so they're just laughing. I wouldn't interpret too much into it. Kuu is really not the standard most Japanese are used to.

I personally love Kansai as well, which is why I didn't even had to think about where to go last year, when I had to decide between Tokyo and Kansai.
Had some really great encouters there (like an old lady stopping me on the street to get me into her house, cause she wanted to show the nice foreigner her garden with the plants she planted for her children and their families, all nicely told in her dialect - this probably only happens in Kansai :laugh ). Not to mention Kyoto and Osaka are there! :heart
And Kuu directly came to my city with her all prefectures tour, so I've never regretted it even for a bit.

And thank you Xianghua for the story and your posts Karen! :)

I doubt DNA will be able to hit 20K , at most it will be slightly under 19K . Hopefully it will still be on Oricon next week :s

this pic gives me life, thanks for sharing! :heart

it seems people are loving kokoro kara iloveu more than aenaku naru kurai nara, I am in the opposite. i love aenaku naru kurai nara wayy more and it is now one of my faveorite ballads from her in recent years. I am glad she is switching the two of them between different dates of the DNA tour. I just hope we get footage of both songs in the DVD/bluray :'(

thanks for the info and translations karen!

I got my ticket for her live on October 7th! I'll be 1st floor in the 14th row! I can't believe I got such a good seat without even being in her fan club!

There's a big typhoon coming to Japan right now.
For now forecasts state it's going to pass Kansai at the evening 09/30 - then Kuu's two Kyoto dates would be fine.
But fans fear they're going to be cancelled, her last Instagram post from today has a lof of comments about that.
Kuu and her team didn't say anything yet though.

I forgot to tell this here but after the a-nation show I went to a restaurant in front of the stadium and all the Kuu's female dancers were eating there haha They were all so stylish and cute. I could even hear then talking about the show and stuff like that.

The Kyoto date today went on smoothly.
The one for tomorrow is cancelled due to the typhoon:

On the other hand two additional dates for DNA Tour were announced!
Two countdown concerts in Osaka!

Info is from Kuu's app, no further information revealed yet.

Kuu's first and also the first time in recent years Kuu is not going to spend the New Year in Taiwan with her family.

Xianghua 29th September 2018 03:05 PM

OH MY GOD :weep :weep this fills the void of Ayu not having a CDL this year.

Gustavopc 29th September 2018 04:11 PM

Countdown edition?? I'm shakiiing!!! Is it in a hall as well?

Also I'm not surprised tomorrow's concert is cancelled . A lot of artistes (such as Naoto ・Inti Raymi , Miura Daichi , MISIA , Hey ! Say ! JUMP & etc) concerts have been cancelled due to Typhoon Trami

Safety comes 1st at the end of the day

And wow at Kuu doing 2 countdown live concerts for the 1st time , better late than never
