A good amount of acapella versions were upload on Ayu's Youtube channel, for #ayumix2020. From the description, a total of 100 acapella versions will be upload! They are going to pick the bests and add to a playlist.

^ Yeah, I'm specifically talking about remix contests. I think she did one when she released the Fly high and kanariya maxi-singles with the Vocal Tracks included, but that was AGES ago and limited to Japan. This is way bigger! :)

It’s crazy how much better the actual acapella version of Poker Face is compared to the shitty unprocessed/dry version on Ayu-Mi-X:

^ idk I mean yeah these new versions are great for listening on their own but that reverb/echo they’ve added really makes it more of a challenge for remixers I would imagine - and considering that’s the point of this whole thing—to use the vocals for remixes—I find it all the more strange.

The guy who made it still makes music but I don't think he does remixes anymore.

They said there’s 100 songs but youtube only has 25?

I think they're coming out in waves. I'm hoping they all come out this week, but it's possible they might spread it out week by week.

News articles aren't all that specific, but just label these 25 as the "first batch."

Yahoo! mentions ayu-mi-x II as an example of Ayu featuring young artists/remixers, and (indirectly) credits her for finding Nakano Yuta, who's gone on to arrange a load of Avex tracks (including Ayu's).

this is a really good idea from Avex ! :p Hope we'll get good creations : such a long time we didn't get any new good remix.

If this can awaken new talents it’s a great thing especially if later they have the opportunity to work with her personally ! She definitely needs to hire new talents for her music her old teams can’t really bring anything new on the table since they tried nearly every thing with her... and in this case Yuta Nakano is the perfect exemple it was fresh back then and his versatility was definitely a big advantage for him but now after 10 or 15 years his arrangements tend to sound "déjà vu" and not that innovative.

So is there a deadline? Can remixers from overseas participate? Do they need to upload on YouTube or what's the dealio?

My brother, who'se a local house-DJ and I really want to collaborate to mix a HOUSE-mix but I really can't make up what they want.

I was thinking that too, like the harmonies in HEAVEN and Voyage between Ayu's vocals — like wtf? Just release the vocal stems so people can do it properly.

I'm really diggind Xelakad's A Song for xx, reminds me a bit of poker face from ayu-mi-x 7 but fiercer. Also it was so good listening to TO BE and HEAVEN acappellas wow

This project is really great, and so simple for avex to execute. Just share stuff and let people work on it, everybody wins something this way.

btw also funny that just these days we were discussing if avex had storage of stuff other than the final versions and a couple of days after that they announce the release of 100 acappella songs lol

One of my favourite ayu fan made remixes is SEASONS (James Merrifield remix) which was an entry in one of the AHS Remix Contest, can't remember the year. I wonder if he still makes music.

ayu-mi-x series was so good. I remember the day that limited released "the other side" could be USD1000 for the whole set on Yahoo Auction.

I'm just a little pissed because Adooph is spamming the hashtag #ayumix2020 on youtube with old remixes from years ago, he's just throwing the # on all of his old vids like they're related to the challenge. I'm not saying the guy is not talented but his remixes are very LQ sounding and he never does full songs, I am looking on the hashtag to find new remixes, not listen to Adooph LQ remixes.

I was never a fan of remixes, they all sound the same anyway - EDM or other electronic stuff. Plus a lot of the people fail to match the tempo of vocals to the tempo of music and it ends up sounding really dumb lol

I wish people would explore different genres with remixes.

That SEASONS one was nice~ And those rock tracks are pretty dope lol Although evolution already has pop rock influence as original, but it's cool to hear the PURE rock version~

^ Just because you've heard multiple songs from the same genre doesn't mean that all electronic music is the same. It's as diverse as rock, just saying.

Shame there isn't an instrumental version of Gackt's SEASON we can use with the acapella of Ayu's original

Oh i am perfectly aware of that! What i'm saying is that everyone goes for those (edm, trance, hause or whatever they are) cuz that's the main idea of "remixes" it seams. I wish people would get out of that box more often and explore different genres cuz electronic stuff is what everyone goes for by default doesn't matter the SUBgenre of it, it's still electronic and sounds alike even if the nuances are different.

I understand what you're saying — people tend to default that remix = edm or dance.

Remixes such as the HAL remix of Ever Free, Fly High or Boys & Girls and the sleeperspaceborn From Your Letter remixes are my amongst my favourite because they totally reimagine the songs as original new music.

^^ Oh, now I understand your point much better. I agree that sometimes the use of the most common genres, such as House, Trance, etc., can be somewhat typical. It is for the same reason that the most unusual remixes are my favorites, and I agree with ExodusUK. The best are HAL remixes for songs like Two of us, Daybreak or End roll. They can create quite interesting ballad arrangements or electronic versions, in addition to making amazing versions of already danceable songs, such as Fly high.

That's my issue with the majority of remixes.

I like this electro version of BLUE BIRD. I would like to see more electro and ambient remixes for Ayu. As much as I lovee trance music.

I honestly don't even have a lot of remixes that i enjoy, but the ones that i do enjoy usually end up being in a completely different genre than the original. Ladies Night (another night Remix), Last Minute from Winter Diary (i cannot remember the name of the album lol) Virgin Road from Love Classics, Kanariya (acoustic orchestra version), to name a few.

It’s so good to see all the talks about Ayumi on tv recently it was such a long time that people didn't talk about Ayu for her music and only for it ! A bit of shame because that’s essentially about the period 1998-2008 but better than nothing lol

That one could've been nice Except they could've layed off the weird dude voice..it's so out of place and really distracting from her vocals...
