Project: Happy Birthday Ayu! 2020
The Saigo no Trouble online live is being performed on Ayu's birthday (October 2nd)! It has inspired members on the AHS Discord to organise a message project. It's been a long time since we gathered together something like this and since Ayu is sharing her birthday with us, it feels like an appropriate time for that effort. We want an idea that is as accessible and easy to get involved with as possible, so no matter your current schedule, you can jump in and send Ayu your birthday wishes. This will need to be organized by the 24th September 2020 so there is time to organise this being sent to a member of Ayu’s troupe.
The idea: A short video gathering together messages from Ayu fans to wish her a happy birthday. These can be text-only or handwritten. We would like to keep messages short for readability, so we will ask participants to keep their messages between 300-500 characters. If you are planning to hand-write your message, please give us a text version as well in case the photo is hard to read in the video. We will not be including any fan-made video footage, but small photos or pictures alongside your message can work if you’d like to include one! Just make sure your message is still a good size for readability. It is also likely that the video will be landscape, so please keep that in mind if taking a photo of your message. As an addition, if you want a longer message then we can do that by making the font a little smaller. This goes for anyone who has already submitted who may have more to say! We have had some Japanese fans write in who can fit a lot more into the character limit so I think it's fair to extend this to overseas fans as well. |

We now have over 40 messages to send to Ayu. This is so much more than I could have hoped for, so thank you. She has worked so hard for over 20 years and I feel like this is a good time for us to realize we're all still supporting her, no matter what she chooses to do in the future. I admit in the last few years I've grown distant from the Ayu fan community, but these letters have made me feel happy, nostalgic, tearful... So thank you everyone. I really hope she can read your words soon. It's one day to go until the deadline! Tomorrow is the last day but please send in your letters as soon as possible so our video editor knows what to plan for. |

Thank you everyone who has written in. If I haven't gotten back to you yet, you'll get a reply today. I'm catching up with what was submitted while I was asleep. Your support means a lot. If you have any friends who are Ayu fans but are nervous about sending in a message, let them know that it's alright. I have had to work with some people on their message who were worried about their EN or what to say, so it's alright to email me with those thoughts as well. Today is the last day for submissions! It will be unfair to our video editor to send in any edits or additional letters after today. The "today" will be when it is the 25th in the USA/Canada as well, so there's still a lot of time left. If you haven't received a response from me after the deadline but you sent it in time, then it's just me that's being late. :laugh We hit 60 letters today so I'm feeling so overwhelmed by how many people this has reached already. Let's do this!! |

Hello everyone!! Thank you again for all your support and all the messages you sent. We capped out at 107 messages to Ayu which are now available to read in the Google Drive.
I'm no longer taking any edits or additional letters, as our video editor has now downloaded all the files and will be working on the video over the weekend. We're hoping to get this noticed by Ayu's staff so when the video is on youtube, I'll post a link to it here along with some tips on how you can help out if you like. Every person helps :heart |

Hello everyone!! I'm happy to say that Sai, our fantastic video editor, has completed the video in record time. I'm overwhelmed with how beautiful the final product is and I hope you all will enjoy it as well!
The fact that this all came together in one week is absolutely a testament to the strength of the fandom. Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone who sent in a message and supported this. I'm so grateful. Now we really need help getting this to Ayu! If you can, please send this through TA or through social media so it can reach the eyes of A STAFF. Every message really helps so they have time to see it for October 2nd. If you don't know what to say, here is a template message. Hello everyone! At the risk of breaking all of our hearts again, we're going to give the video a final push now it is coming to the end of the year. We were wondering if letters with links were being filtered automatically at TA, so we have mocked up two basic letter drafts. Please send both of them if you have a membership there!
If you do not have a membership, you can help by sharing the links and tagging her members of her staff on their public social media accounts on IG and twitter. We're pretty sure staff saw the project last time due to them viewing IG stories about it, but there's no harm in trying to ensure that with the current situation affecting concerts once again. However, there is no guarantee and I hope people will accept that even with our best efforts, it might not get officially acknowledged. |
It would be really nice to have Ayu acknowledge the project but with her not responding to #WeLoveYouAyu (which Timmy retweeted at the time IIRC) and this project seemingly going unnoticed by her, too (although staff saw it), I kind of gave up already.
I'd be lying if I said I was surprised that she didn't react after her not responding to the 2017 project but I had hoped that the birthday factor could push it further. It was still really awesome to see how many fans participated! Even if it doesn't work out, giving the project one final push is definitely a good idea. At least we can say we tried our best. :heart |
It's more wanting to remind her that we're still here for her as the covid situation rages on. I feel like Ayu tries to avoid acknowledging fan projects specifically these days (and prefers more controlled ways of including us, like the fan photo submissions) but it's more if anyone wants to throw in another mention at her... we'll all be doing it too :)
