Most Underrated Artist
 

Who do you think is the most underrated artist? To me it's Matchbox 20. They're extremely talented yet not very famous. It seems Rob Thomas is more well known for singing with Santana than his band's well written, very catchy music. Who else do you think hasn't had their share of fame for their amount of talent?

Matchbox 20 not famous? x_x Maybe it's because they're a top40 group and are not played on MTV.

Ummm, I've known of Matchbox 20, through TV and Radio, since Middle School, and I'm graduating in 4 days. The video for Unwell was #1 on the top twenty of VH1 for months.. which is based on record sales, voes, rotation on airwaves, etc. They're famous.

Incubus is underrated

Incubus is underrated, as for western music.

As for eastern music, I think Onitsuka Chihiro is underrated. She was fairly popular there for awhile, and then definitely took a hit in the popularity. ;_; *cries* Other than her, Kiroro is underrated. They make some dang fine music. Oh, and aiko. She'd be more popular if she were perceived as cuter, I think. She has the pipes and the songwriting technique. She just doesn't look like an idol.

I'd say Ayumi Hamasaki. I mean, what's this "#1" thing? Isn't there something higher then that?

i agree with matchbox 20, they do some good songs but dont get the attention they should, another i would say is bonnie pink, hitomi i just recently got there albums and i dont know how popular they are, but they both do have alot of talent.

The Used are. and Thursday. and Coheed and Cambria. and AFI to a point.
But then everything I listen to is highly underrated. Shiina is really underrated.

I'd say Kagrra are underrated. They're such an awesome band and very talented. I mean, if you're into J-rock (especially indie, and visual-kei), people know who they are. But they just got singed to a major label... Everyone should know who they are!!

i think onitsuka chihiro and maybe fra-foa are pretty underrated

The western music I listen to is a WHOLE lot different than the eastern music I listen to. I'd say the most underrated western singer/group would be Powerman 5000. Matchbox 20, AFI, Mindless Self Indulgence and all of the oriental music. I never see any of my favorite artists on tv or hear them on the radio :'(. Most people don't like what they don't understand...and I feel sorry for those people. Recently, games like Kingdom Hearts and FFX2 have introduced a lot of people to the jpop world...but still, we be only a minority of fans here in the U.S. Makes me wanna cry....

matchbox 20? =o if its on vh1 it is not underrated it is over played. Same with incubus. I like both bands btw.

I guess it depends on where you live too, because we have a lot of popular underground kind of bands and stuff. Other bands like Anit-Flag, and "punk" kind of things are popular. I like them, but they seem to overrated.

Ace Of Base I think they were a really good group and nobody pays them any attention they couldnt even release there 02' album here cuz nobody wanted to make a deal with them... I had to get it from europe at virgin mega store = /

Hey Ace of Base! That takes me back to 5th grade.... I like them even if it seems nobody else does! You're right, they are underrated :) I'm going to have to download all their music now... thanks for the reminder

I LOVE ACE OF BASE!! I know I'm kinda late, but hey, I didn't come to America until I was 7 (7!!) so I didn't have the chance to get into Ace of Base. But I'm so into them!
Matchbox 20 is not really underrated for me...I hear them on the radio all the time.
I think that group that sings "California"--you know, the theme song for the O.C.--is pretty underrated. And the band that the guy who plays Michael in the Princess Diaries is in (in real life). Rooney, is his name....???

man... I haven't heard an Ace of Base song in ages! I know they were somewhat popular in the early-mid 90s, and I remember liking some of their songs back in the day. It was different from other music I heard at the time.

I don't think the Matchbox 20 is underrated. I mean, they's sooooo famous, to the point i' ve even seen them interviewed on CNN. And i remember a few months ago, their song "UNWELL" was one of the most aired and sold singles. The PV did even WELL! It was on the countdown for a few months, if i'm not wrong.

I think Sublime, Pierrot, Maaya Sakamoto, Vanessa Carlton, Hitomi Yaida... and Kemuri, a GREAT Japanese ska/punk band!!!!!!

Sublime is definitely underrated. Guess the guy just took off too soon.

Furthermore, Thursday, Eno, Merzbow *big grin*, Siam Shade, Shiina Ringo. I know they're not underrated in general but they're so awesome they'll forever be underrated, even if overrated. Oh, and Ornette Coleman.

And, of course, Mini Moni, but they're a tad too intellectual for me and all. You know, the song structures, drum breaks, awesome guitar work and outstanding vocals, too.

King's X is the most underrated band ever. They've been around for over 20 years and never had a break. They've had a few vidoes on MTV (back when MTV actually played videos). It's really a shame too, they are amazing. Awesome three-part vocal harmonies, and each member is a master at their instruments. I finally got to see them play at a small club a couple of months ago. Best live show I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). I even got to hang out with them after the show and they are three of the coolest guys on the planet. They took the time to talk to every fan and let them know what was up with side projects, solo albums, etc. They are definitely a band everyone should at least check out.

Kiroro is kind of underrated.. but she went to Ayu ready though. Aiko is kind of underreated too, unfortunatly :( Hajime Chitose IS underrated, Buck Thick is underrated i think... OHh~ And Kojima Mayumi!!!
